Mail backups are interfering with my access

Mail is forever downloading supposedly new incoming messages (most recently to the tune of 360,000 messages!) Sometimes they show up in trash and sometimes they are not to be found. When I find them in trash (which I keep deleting to no effect) they appear to be backups made about twice a minute!  Even if I wanted to find a previous version, I couldn't wade through that many backups. This is ridiculous and interferes with Mail's job of sending and receiving actual mail and even with other internet access.
I do a lot of my message writing offline, if that makes any difference. I even tried Secure Delete once and it made no difference - but I was offline at the time. Secure Delete scares me as I have too often accidentally deleted unintended items.  Processor 1.7 GHz intel Core 15 (or is it iS?); Memory 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3; local internet quality usually very slow. Don't know what other information might help.
Thanks, saltyrobn

I blew it! I closed rather than quit Mail (not even sure of the difference).  Found an Envelope file that was 3.2MB! Deleted them and went back to mail. One account seems to have been restored including 22 outbox messages from up to 2 years ago! Some of which I know did get out already. Others I don't know.
Another account shows an empty inbox with the sub boxes also empty.
I redid it, properly. Quit instead of closed Mail and deleted the 3.2 or thereabouts MB of envelope files. Started Mail. Eventually my second account was restored.
It is now showing incoming messages at 167353 and climbing. Checked trash. A whole bunch of backup copies yet again but nowhere near the 160000 is says are already in. At least not yet. While writing that the incoming message count has climbed to 169433.

  • TS4036 I've got a new iPad I'm trying to do an iCloud back up but keep being given the following message: no iCloud backups are compatible with the version of iOS (6.1.3) on this iPad. How do I restore I cloud on my new device?

I've got a new iPad and am trying to do an iCloud backup but keep getting the following message: no iCloud backups are compatible with the version of iOS (6.1.3) on this iPad.
How do I restore info from iCloud onto my new device?

You would have to update your device first, before you can restore your iPad from your backup. Resolution: set it up as anew device, then update your device to the latest version "Settings > General > Updates", then reset your device again "Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings" and then after the iPad restarts again, choose to restore your device from your backup.

  • Trying to back up iCloud from a lost iPhone 5 to a new one but Choose backup option says "No iCloud backups are compatible with the version of iOS (7.1) on this iPhone" previous phone was at version 8.1.3

I recently lost my iPhone 5 and purchased a refurbished one on line, I'm trying to backup by iCloud to the new phone but when I get to the "Choose backup" screen I'm told "No iCloud backups are compatible with the version (7.1) on this iPhone". My previous iPhone had up to version 8.1.3. Now I'm stuck in the backup screen and can't get back to settings.  How can I finish the backup and how do I get out of backup mode to possibly update to the version I need?

    Hi AppleRobertion,
What you are going to need to do here is update your iPhone's version of the operating system to a version at least as new as the one on your backup - iOS 8.1.3. To do this, follow the directions in this article -
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond or doesn't turn on - Apple Support
    Specifically -
Make sure that you have iTunes 12 or later on your computer.
Put your device in recovery mode.
When you get the option to restore or update, select Update. This will reinstall iOS without erasing your data.
Once the update is complete you should be able to restore from your backup.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Sincerely,
    Brett L

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Yes, update first, Settings > General > Software Update.
Then navigate to Settings > General > Reset > Erase all contents and settings on the device you want to restore.
When this completes and the Set-Up Assistant starts, choose "Restore from iCloud Backup" and enter your iCloud account and password. You will see the three most recent backups for each of the devices on which you enabled Backup. Choose which backup to restore from.

You will have to first update your new iPhone 5s to iOS 7.1 before you can use your iPhone 4s backup.
Set it up as new, do the update (Settings > General > Software Update) and then re-enter setup by erasing the phone (settings > General > Reset > Erase all Content and Settings).

Not sure which forum to post this in, so excuse me if this is the wrong place.
What e-mail servers are compatible with Apple Mail? I'm new to Mac and apparently my hotmail accounts don't seem to work. What about Yahoo or Gmail?
    Thanks,

Trying to choose iCloud backup on my new phone as I lost my previous one but it states"no iCloud backups are compatible with this version" therefore I can't set up my replacement phone! Any suggestions

You can't restore a backup that was made on a device running a more recent version of iOS.  If your replacement phone is running iOS 6.0.1 and the one you backed up was running 6.1.2, for example, you would have to update your replacement phone before you could restore to the backup.  If this is the case, update your phone by connecting it to your computer, and selecting Check for Update or Update on the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings, update the phone and set it up as New.  Then go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings, go through the setup screens again and choose Restore from iCloud Backup.  You should then be able to restore your backup.

UUpdate the new iphone to iOS 8.3 before you try to restore the backup.

  • Vibrations in Macbook Pro are interfering with trackpad!?

I bought a new magsafe today and since I've been using it my trackpad doesnt work. There also is a strong vibration in the place where you rest your hands while typing. I have felt this before multiple times but it never bothered me and i have read lots of posts about this occurance. I believe there are slight electric currents running through my macbook do to improper grounding.
It is new thought that my trackpad doesnt work because of these currents. I cant really move the cursor, it will randomly jump to places, as if something is interfering with my finger... I realized though, that if i rest my left hand on the macbook, i can use the trackpad just fine with my other hand. I guess the current then goes through my hand and doesnt interfere with the trackpad anymore.
I guess i found a shortterm solution but obviously, i need some answer to the problem, has anyone expericenced anything like this before? I really would apppreciate your help.
    Thanks a lot

    Shut down
    Remove battery
    Connect mag safe
    Boot up
If your trackpad works now your battery may be bloated and you will need a new one.  Mine got fat and pressed up against the trackpad.

  • HT4859 what does it mean if my new iphone says that iCloud backup are compatible with the version of iOS (6.0.2) on this iblePhone

I am trying to back up my fiels from old iPhone 3S to the new one I have just bought using iCloud and when I am doing it, my new iphone 5 is writing thet iCloud back-up are compatible with the version of iOS  (6.0.2) on this iPhone. What does it mean?

I just worked on this same issue for someone else at work (iPhone 4 or 4S up to date). The iPhone 5 needs to be up to date to the newest version of IOS
    Here is what I did:
    1. Got into the iPhone 5 without using an account
    2. After getting in, it shows that there is an update
    3. Completed the update
    4. After the phone rebooted,  went in and completed a reset of the phone to factory
    5. When it came back up followed prompts and was able to restore from iCloud backup.
    Hope this helps

  • Thunderbird does not correctly save german letters ü,ä,ö,ß. After reloading a mail they are exchanged with useless ones.

If a mail is written and saved with german letter ü,ä,ö,ß then after reloading it sometimes the letters are completely useless (only the letters) and they need to be rewritten. This bug is present for years and endless versions before but now at a specific big amount of the database this gets really messy. I am thinking about going to outlook for professional results (some more bugs are now meanwhile really critical, but this is one of them). Any solutions?

right click the folder, select properties and check that the character encoding of the folder is correct. UTF-8

  • RMAN backups are slow with TSM

    Hi,
I encountered a problem using RMAN with TSM to backup a database. It seems that the RMAN channel doesn't use the entire bandwidth to the TSM (or whatever) and is idle most of the time. This makes the database backup really slow.
As a comparison, we backup also filesystem and SQL Server, they both use very few channels and each channel backup about X5 more data per second than Oracle. For example, SQL Server uses 5 channels to the TSM, and we get a total of around 100MB/s. When we configure Oracle to backup using 5 channels we get about 20MB/s and we see that the SQL Server is writing to the TSM all the time while Oracle is idle a large portion of the time.
    Any ideas? Known configuration issues?
I hope I'm clear about the problem.
    Thanks,
    Liron

    Hi,
Thanks for everybody for your responses, I'll try to sum the answers here:
    1. Yes, we backup the filesystem, and everything works fine. The problem is only with RMAN backups
    2. Resources are not an issue, it happens on strong and weak servers (and several O/S as well)
    3. Database versions are not the issue, it happens on 10.2 as well as 11.2
My feeling is that this has something to do with the integration, either oracle setting or TSM setting, but I can't be sure until I solve this.
For those of you who backup with TSM, did you notice that filesystem / SQL Servers are being backed up faster? Did you check the Oracle wait events and TSM status while you run the backup?
    Thanks
BTW Girish, great comment, I wish I had all the answers... :)

  • What external hard drives for backup are compatible with Yosemite?

I have an early 2013 MBP Retina 15" and have installed Yosemite. I want to purchase an external hard drive for backup via Time Machine. I have read that Western Digital drives were associated with data loss with Mavericks; I do not know if that has been corrected. Has anyone backuped successfully on an external hard drive with Yosemite installed, and if so, can you let me and others know the brand and model. Many thanks.

    Understood.
I don't receive any compensation for promoting any product from any computer, hard drive or computer peripheral manufacturer. I don't receive any compensation from any of those manufacturers or sellers for any reason. In fact I was not promoting any product, I was responding to the poster's query and was stating that I have observed the drives in use and working with the Mac OS.
My workplace is a consumer of these items and we buy and use thousands of PCs, Macs, WD and non-WD drives, and so forth. I was providing information about whether WD drives work with Macs running various operating systems. I don't promote any particular brand, we use many different ones here.

  • TS4036 im trying to back up my phone but it is saying (no icloud backups are compatable with the version of ios on this phone what do i do?

i got a new phone and im trying to restore it thru icloud backup restore but its telling me that its not compatiable but i cant get to the new version  what do i do?

You'll have to update the phone in iTunes on your computer in order to access your backup.
Connect the new phone to your computer, open iTunes, click on the name of the phone in iTunes, go to the Summary tab, then click Check for Update and update your phone.  (If you get a pop-up when you connect to iTunes to update, go ahead and update.)  After updating the phone, set it up as a new iPhone, disconnect it from your computer, go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings, go through the setup screens on the phone and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup.  Sign into your iCloud account and your backup should now be available to restore from.
