Mail box disappears

Cant find info on this. My co-work keeps "losing" her sent messages. Claims they just disappear on their own Her whole mail program is not working correctly. Occassionally she can not forward received emails. She has a sent folder in the inbox and so on. How do I get this program back to the way it should be?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is what I suggest - which will probably be the easiest in the short and long run.
With the Mail.app quit and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail.
Move the Mail folder to the Desktop.
Launch Mail and a new Mail folder (and new account named folder within) will be created automatically by Mail. All new mailboxes for the account will be created automatically by Mail within the account named folder when the function is used by the account.
You can then use the Import Mailbox feature to import selected xxxxx.mbox files from within the old Mail folder moved to the Desktop.

    This is my problem too:
    All of my local mailboxes (On my Mac) disappeared from the sidebar.  However, I do not have the 'triangle' on the Inbox that I can turn to reveal the list of mailboxes -- that disappeared too (and nothing happens when I hover over "Inbox").  I do know that the mailboxes are still there, somewhere, because when I go to create a New Mailbox, I can navigate to "On My Mac" and the entire mailbox list shows up there in the dropdown.  How do I get them back onto my sidebar if the option to do that is no longer on the "Inbox" icon?

    Hello everybody,
    I need your help:
    I have 5 mail accounts on Mail and yesterday I notice something unusual.
    If I see the "inbox" accounts I see all 5 accounts but when I see the "sent" accounts I see only 3 accounts.

  • Mail boxes keep disappearing.

    All my mail box lists keep disappearing in the window to the left in Mail. Nothing to do with the "hide" button. If I quit mail and restart the mail boxes reappear, but after a few times leaving the application running in the background while doing something else, the boxes disappear again. Only started happening in the last few days. Any ideas?

  • Mail Inbox and Sent box disappeared

    The Inbox and Sent boxes appear empty and do not respond. Trying to move messages from other boxes to the Inbox results in a message saying the box does not exist.
    Not able to send or receive mail to the computer. MobileMe works.
    Have recovered the last inbox, but cannot move the recovered msgs to the Inbox.
    Cannot rebuild the Inbox as that item in the menu is grayed out.
    Reindexing the boxes does not solve the issue.
    Questions: Is there a fix within the current configuration that does not lose the contents of either box? Would downloading a new Mail app fix the problem and recognize the old mailboxes? If I have to install a new Mail app, where do I get it?
    Appreciate any help

    all the mail content (but not the headers) in my Inbox and Sent box disappeared.
    Setting up the same account twice in Mail is probably what got you into trouble. I suspect Mail simply removed all mailboxes associated with that account without checking to see whether they belonged to the original or the dupe.
    Do the disappeared messages from my Inbox, and their attachments, all exist somewhere on my Mac even though I can't see them (I have searched the Library)?
    Very unlikely. Try looking in the ~/Library/Mail/ folder (where '~' means "your user folder). See if there are any mailboxes still there that might be appropriate, and try duplicating them to the desktop and then import them into a new mailbox. That's unlikely to work, but you never know.
    Is there any utility out there that might help me to find them?
    If they're really gone, no. If you have backups, you can restore them from the backup, of course. But without backups, the best you'll be able to do is try a data recovery tool, which is unlikely to give very good results in this case, but would be worth a try if there's no other option.
    And what happens to attachments in Mail nowadays, when there seems to be no separate Attachments folder?
    Attachments are stored with the message, just like they are sent across the internet as part of the message. They are not automatically decoded and saved as individual files somewhere. That happens when you either open them or tell Mail to save them somewhere.

    Thanks

    If they are lost, which it sounds like, there is next to no chance of recovering them.
    What you might do is get EasyFind...
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/8707
    use that to search your whole drive for files of...
    .emlx
    If EasyFind shows a number found greater than Mail shows, we might be good to go!

  • IMAP boxes disappear & reappear, continually reload, subfolders move random

    I am having a very strange problem here which started about a week ago, maybe someone can point me in the right direction:
    1) I use both gmail and my domain's server email which load into Mail.app. I use gmail because I like their spam filter and I use their SMTP because where I am, my ISP SMTP server isn't very reliable. Gmail solves my outgoing mail problem, but doesn't support showing when mail has been answered and that is a useful feature.
    2) My procedure is to open up gmail in my browser, mark and delete the spam (IMAP Account), then close the browser and open mail.app
    3) I have a rule in mail.app which moves my gmail to my domain mail Inbox where I organized with folders and subfolders and use many signatures to send different email out to customers. Mail has been very good as you can do quite a lot with it compared to most other email clients for OSX. I do this for three domains, with several email addresses within each domain.
    4) In mail.app, I can choose which mailbox to use for sent mail, junk, etc. This way I am sending from my domain, the email response shows and is linked to that mail so I can look for old responses fast and organize things by department. Spotlight or search works fast and perfectly. It's a good solution which I have used for well over a year (whenever gmail released IMAP services), or was, until a week ago.
    Problem 1) As of now, when I open the mail account, the domain subfolders which should be below my Inbox are no longer there. If I look lower to the account folder, sometimes the folders show up there, sometimes they do not show up at all, but they are online in my web-based mail with my hosting company. The mails are not lost, but mail.app is not connecting with the host correctly as they appear and disappear randomly.
    Problem 2) Every time I open mail.app now, most of my email inbox folders have to download all of the mail and their attachments again, even though I have the boxes in preferences correctly checked. Once the inbox loads all of the mail, then the subfolders disappear. This is very consistent. As long as there is no mail showing in the inbox, then the subfolders are showing correctly. As soon as the inbox is loaded showing mails, then the subfolders either disappear or move.
    Problem 3). The mailboxes that my hosting's webmail service creates (like deleted mail, mail to delete, trash, trash delete, whatever, it's a Windows server) keep showing up in Mail. They never did that before. Once I deleted them, I could see them online, but not in mail. All was as it should be. Now they keep coming back every time I reconnect and I often have to reset which mailbox is being used for junk, sent mail, drafts, etc.
    Problem 4). This same problem happens on all three of my machines, two being PPC and one Intel, running 10.4.11 and 10.5.5 respectively. The problem started happening on all my machines at the same time. This is also connection from three different ISPs.
    Solution? My hosting company says that they have changed nothing in their settings (IMAP uses Port 143 and I do get a time-out error sometimes but not often). They have tried it in Outlook and do not get the same results, they say it's working fine. I have tried to subscribe in Leopard (you can't do this is Tiger, only in Leopard, but Mail.app says I have no subscribed folders, which is not true). The Quota Limits shows the standard Mail.app mailboxes, the Subscription List shows nothing, and no way to change it).
    I tried Thunderbird and it connects faster, downloads faster and the folders are OK, but I still get mail folders appearing randomly. Sometimes I get mail folders appearing that I have not ever created with names like "System Mail". Sometimes I get mail boxes which are stored On My Mac which appear on IMAP suddenly. (Also, Thunderbird has poor signature file support, so I would prefer to use Mail, it's a better program overall.)
    I have tried rebuilding the mail accounts, have done this, realistically, 25 times. Yesterday I did a complete reinstall of 10.5.5 just because I am at the end of my rope. Now I am about ready to change hosting companies as I am still having the same trouble. I am in the process of archiving all of my mail into Gmail so I can switch hosts if that is the problem. But, I would like to know first if that is actually the problem, since overall I am pretty happy with my hosting company. They are in Arizona and speak my language and they are easy to talk with. However, they do not have a Mac there so they cannot test my situation from their facility.
    It's a strange problem in that one, I have used the system fine for well over a year with perfect results. Two, it happens on three different Mac used in three different places (office, home, and another person's home), and three, I have not changed hosting companies, I have been using the same host for two years and they deny changing any settings on their end.
    The hosting company has no answer for me, they are not Mac users, and say that it's perfect in Outlook, but it's not actually perfect in Outlook either as mailboxes still appear randomly and sent mail ends up in my inbox randomly even in Outlook. They just don't realize it as they are not watching my mail boxes except when I am on the phone with them.
    I am not having trouble with my websites. I do not have this problem with Gmail, only with my domain webmail.
    I have to use Windows because of a particular shopping cart system I use, but IMAP systems should be the same on Windows or anything else. Some how, some where, some one has changed some thing. Any idea what and how to solve the problem?
    Thanks,
    John

  • My mail account disappeared!

    my Mail Account disappeared and I had to add the account again. When I did this there was no Junk Box or a Trash box showing in the list of Mailboxes. His do I get these back/to show again?

    The Mail app is still there. One of my accounts simply doesn't work. The same account works fine on my desktop computer (the one IPhone is synced with) but it won't download mail on my IPhone. When I try to send a test message from IPhone to that account I get an error message and it won't receive test message sent from my desktop. The tests from my desktop come in fine to the desktop but not the IPhone.
    I have reset the IPhone and tried re-configuring the Mail account. No luck.

  • How to solve the mail box size limit for thunderbird

    Hi,
    I tried to do archiving for my mails but everytime it will prompt me mail box size limit has reached and ask me to delete older mails and the problem is my HDD is more than enough to contain those archives so am asking if there's anything which i can get this solved for good?
    Regards.
    Andrew Koh

    Background info:
    Emails are downloaded and stored in the Inbox file written one after the other.; they are not stored as individual emails in their own file. So the Inbox folder in the FolderPane is actually a file.
    Any email you delete is marked as deleted and from your point of view it disappears from eg: Inbox and reappears in 'Deleted' folder. In reality it is still in the Inbox taking up space, marked as deleted and hidden from view. Compacting removes all traces of 'marked as deleted' emails and reduces the file size. If a file becomes corrupted and you compact that file you may lose good emails. this can occur if you do not compact on a regular basis.
    It is wise to create a backup on a regular basis.
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup
    '''RE: Archiving'''
    Archiving is not a backup. It is a means of storing old emails in smaller files accessible within your Profile mail account. So releasing space in other folders.
    If you have been archiving all emails into just one Archives folder, then you are putting all of your emails into one file.
    Did you set up Archive Options?
    See info at these links:
    * https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/archived-messages
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Archiving_your_e-mail
    Did you choose to archive by month and retain folder structure?
    By using these options, if you archived last months Sent emails and say you had another folder called 'Family' and you did the same, they would be stored as follows into smaller files, so you should not reach a mailbox limit.
    There will be no emails stored in the actual 'Archives' folder, nor the '2014' or '2014-5' folders, they will be in the relevant folder name - see below
    eg:
    > Archives
    >->2014
    >->->2014-05
    >->->->Family (one month of emails here)
    >->->-> Sent (one month of emails here)
    Suggest you do the following and in this order:
    * create a backup
    * delete any emails not required
    * compact folders
    * set up Archive options and organise emails as shown above, so that emails are only in that months eg: Sent archive Folder.
    * Create another backup when everything is organised.

  • "On my Mac" folder including all my subfolders in Mail have disappeared after Yosemite install! HELP!

    "On my Mac" folder including all my subfolders in Mail have disappeared after OS X Yosemite version 10.10.2 install! What should I do?

    Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
    Back up all data before proceeding.
    Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData
    Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
    from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
    A folder window will open. Inside it there should be files with names as follows:
              Envelope Index
              ExternalUpdates.storedata
    Move those files to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have longer names that begin as above. Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
    Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK. Typically, the process takes a few minutes, but it may take hours if you have gigantic mailboxes. In that case, you may be able to speed things up by temporarily adding your home folder to the Privacy list in the Spotlight preference pane. Remove it when Mail has finished importing.
    Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the files you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • I get unexpectedly logged out from my mail box and and recieve the following message: "The custom error module does not recognize this error."

    I am repeatedly and unexpectedly logged-out from my mail box when working on a document. It frequently happens when I choose Send or Save, but it could happen any time. The file that I worked on disappears completely. Before, the file could be found in the draft box or some other place categorized as Auto Recovery. Now, instead, I get the following message: "The custom error module does not recognize this error." I am working at home, connected to a university server. The same problem appears with both of my computers, which are connected by a router. I have a MacBook Pro and am working with Firefox 6.0.2. I have a wireless broadband connection with Internet. Hi Phil,
    Generally, when a user sends an incoming request to an Exchange 2010 Client Access server using Outlook Web App and the user’s mailbox is on an Exchange 2010 mailbox in a different Active Directory site,
    Exchange 2010 determines whether the Client Access server has the
    ExternalURL property set in that Active Directory site. If it is and the cross-site silent redirection has been enabled, the user will be automatically redirected to the specified URL.
    Thus, please make sure the External URL property is set properly in your environment. And also
    disable the WindowsAuthentication for OWA VD to have a try. If the issue persists, please try the following KB to reset the Outlook Web Access-related virtual directories:

    Sorry for the late reply.  Yes, the ExternalURL is set; otherwise, it wouldn't work at all.  98% of the time everything is fine.
    My issue described a problem that appears only during session timeouts.  I've pretty much verified that this is the case; Exchange 2010 does not appropriately handle the timeouts sometimes when using cross-site redirection.

  • Mail suddenly disappeared

    While I was using Mail on iPad, all the contents in my folders, including the in-box, disappeared. This situation is true on my iPhone and iCloud. I can't think of anything that I did to cause this.

    Apple says there are no problems with iCloud.

    If you were syncing with iCloud, turn off the sync in System Preferences, reboot, and open Mail. If all is okay, turn the sync back on.

  • Mail boxes gone and Mail has returned to start

    I opened Mail today and had problems with log on. It refused to send mail. It then froze. I did a force quit only to find that the entire application has reset to Zero i.e. no mail boxes and it asks me to set up a new account. My entire account and mailboxes has disappeared. This is a one of a series of problems following a major crash last weekend.
    I then rebuilt permissions. verified the disk cleared the caches only to ind that all my prferences have been set to default. All applications are opening as if for the first time. e.g. Firefox has lost all bookmarks and my finder is at default - all dock items have disappeared as have a series of widgets. the only widgets that open are the Appe default items.

    Take a look at the following articles in case there is something there that could explain what happened and post back with your observations:
