Mail broken with update to 10.3.4

I have a bunch of Macs and have been slowly updating them to 10.3.4 and Mail has been breaking with each update. It works fine under 10.3.4 but when I update there is an issue with SSL.
I have an IMAP account over SSL, after the update I get an Alert saying, "An SSL error has occured and a secured connection with the server cannot be made."
Any ideas?

Mail stuck with "updating cache directory"

I've been getting bit by Mail getting stuck with "updating cache directory" on just one of my three IMAP accounts (separate providers). Gmail and MobileMe are fine, it is just with FuseMail which uses Microsoft Exchange servers. I have finally found something that may point to the problem:

Azaleos has now spent 6 months working with Microsoft on this issue.
The diagnosis appears to be that significant changes were made to the IMAP protocol implementation in Exchange 2007 that significantly deteriorates the performance of MAC Mail.App clients, especially client with large mailboxes, against Exchange 2007 vs. Exchange 2003.
Although the Microsoft support team’s response has been absolutely exemplary, we have been unable to make the Exchange development team understand the significance of this takeback from Exchange 2003, nor been able to have them implement fixes in the Exchange 2007 stack to address the issue.
More significantly, we have also received absolutely no response from Apple regarding the deficiencies of the MAC Mail.App client, nor even any acknowledgement of the problem. In fact, from the complete lack of response we’ve received, Apple has an absolutely abysmal Enterprise support capability and far worse than anything we’ve experienced from Microsoft.
At this time, Azaleos does not recommend that customers who have significant MAC Mail.App implementations with sizeable mailboxes (in excess of 500MB mailboxes) upgrade from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007.
We are recommending to customers that they do upgrade to Exchange 2007. But, that any users of MAC Mail.App move immediately to Entourage or to an e-mail client that implements a solution that is less than 10 years out of date.

I finally had to get FuseMail to "reset the IMAP flags" on their end and everything seemed to resolve itself.

Twitter keyboard shortcuts "N" and "P" are broken with update 10.4.31.9

The latest update to Twitter (version 10.4.31.9) has broken the shortcut keys "N" and "P" for next and previous. It's frustrating not having those shortcuts for navigating tweets. "SPACE" and SHIFT+SPACE" still work for page down and up.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled twice and rebooted numerious times to no avail.
I hope a future update will correct this.

The problem is that despite having connected to my Netgear Router via Airport Wireless, I'm can't connect to the Internet.
Before the 10.4.9 update everything was fine. The MacMini is working fine (haven't risked the update for it), and my wife can connect with a Windows XP notebook fine. So the problem is definalty on the G4 TiBook.
I've tried switching between dynamic and fixed DNS with no luck.
When I switch it to dynamic is gets an IP address which is out of the range that the router is set to assign. i.e. the TiBook IP Address gets something like 169.254.134.187. However the Netgear Router which is acting as a DCHP server is set to give IP Address in the range 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.100.
Setting the TiBook manually does not work either.
The router itself has the IP 192.168.0.1. Pinging it I get 'No route to host', or 'Host is down'.
I've tried everything from checking cables, resetting, deleting the Airport network and reconnecting, restarting everything. No luck. Just not impressed at all.

Buttons are broken with update.

I created buttons for a series of tutorials that open URLs and they worked fine. The original files were created in Captivate 5.5 and published to Flash 10. I now have Captivate 6.0 and I've updated those tutorials with an intro slide and now the buttons don't work. The buttons are not on the intro slide (rather the conclusion slide) and I initially didn't do anything to change the buttons. Our QA tester noticed the dysfunction when testing so I tried re-linking the buttons in the Properties panel, but to no avail; does anyone know why this might be happening? BTW the buttons are set to Active for the entire slide.

You seem to misunderstand how the Flash Global Security panel works.
You don't add the specific URL as a trusted location. You need to add the folder where the published files are located on your hard drive or network LAN drive as a trusted location.
In fact, if you publish regularly to a particular drive, I recommend you just add the entire drive as a trusted location. Then any project you publish there will not have a problem with Flash Security preventing links from working.

If you publish your content to a web server and view it over HTTP, you don't have to worry about doing all this. Flash security is only likely to be an issue when trying to play content from local or LAN drives.

Mail broken after update to 10.0.10.90

Hi,
I got my BB Z10 with OS 10.0.10.261. Last week my phone shows an available Update to 10.0.10.90.
Since update I can't send Emails over a Qmail SMTP server. I see following error in the server log: stray new line detected, closing connection.
It's not a server failure, 1000s of other clients use the servers without problems.
Please help!!!!

A "normal" user without a own email-server can´t figure out what exactly the problem is. I´m in the happy position to work for an email-provider, so I can take a look at the server logs.
The firmware 10.0.10.90 tries to send out email which is noch rfc compliant. I can´t understand why a fix takes so much time if this problem does not occur in orther firmware releases.
I´m happy this problem effects only my private account cause all my business accounts are Exchange active-sync.
But what about all the blackberry users who only want to sent private emails????

Home Sharing Broken With Update- what version will restore go back to?

Like others my AppleTV loses home sharing when waking from sleep and I have to restart iTunes for it to see my content. If was thinking about restoring the AppleTV to the original settings. Will that revert back to the OS version it came with or the latest OS?

I too am experiencing this issue. I love the ATV2 and like you everything worked flawlessly until 4.2. Now my friends just laugh when I attempt to show-off my ATV only to be greeted with the now infamous "no content" message.
Also, the only "workaround" that works for me every time is restarting iTunes. Toggling Home Sharing (on either the ATV or my Mac) only works some of the time. It's particularly annoying as my Mac is in another room and the whole reason I bought an ATV is so I wouldn't have to get off the couch (to pop a disc in) when I want to watch a movie.
Please Apple, fix this soon...

If I no longer have access to my original e-mail associated with my account and my passwords and e-mail accounts associated with my Apple device, how can I fix this solution? I have 2 ipads and 1 iphone and I cannot update any of my apps.

I tried to change the e-mail associated with my apple account because my school was closing and I knew I would no longer have accss to that e-mail account, however now all 3 of my devices ( 2 ipads & 1 iphone are screwed up as far as the e-mail accounts associated with each device and the passwords. I have tried all the on-line support/suggestions and took my devices to a local Apple store and no one/nothing helps.
Does anyone have a solution? I can purchase new apps but I cannot update any of the apps I have to any of my devices.

You are trying to find a loophole to circumvent a basic rule that prohibits the transfer of purchased content from one Apple ID to another.
Content tied to an Apple ID are bound to that Apple ID forever. You can not merge or trade accounts. Well, not (officially) anyway...

Some have reported success simply by reinstalling the update -- not sure of this one, but can't hurt.

No conection with the mail server after update to 10.4.7

I'm already loosing my head!!
I've updated to 10.4.7 and after appeared a dialog box message. link of the message in portuguese (http://rapidshare.de/files/26407351/mail.tiff.html)
In english it means: Mail have beed updated. Do you want allow that the new version access the same items of keys (as password) that the old version?

So after this my mail loosed the connection with any server, I can't connect any account with the mail, but using Thunderbird it work okay.

Don't panic, or you'll end up making things worse (if you haven't already).
The Mac OS X 10.4.7 Update has introduced connection issues as a result of (according to the documentation) "Mail now supports connecting to mail servers through a SOCKS proxy". If that's the problem, you must go to System Preferences > Network and disable the SOCKS Proxy in the network configuration used to connect to the Internet, if it's enabled.

Mail, Safari, Software Update all quitting

Was previously having no problem with my Mac or any of these applications but since I installed SAFARI 3.1.1 THE FOLLOWING HAPPENS.
1. When i try to open safari immediately a box appears telling me it has unexpectedly quit. No amount of retrying will open it.
2. On trying to open MSN a box appears telling me it has unexpectedly quit. No amount of retrying will open it.
3. When trying to open mail it will open for about 2 seconds, enough for me to see the mailboxes but when it tries to access and check for new mail it quits. Again no amount of retrying makes any difference.
I can check my .mac account using Firefox but what is really killing me here is that I cannot access my business pop account via mail.+ all the settings for my pop account are stored in an email, in mail, which I cannot open.
I have run Tech tool, Disk utility, checked file permissions, dumped the application preferences, reset the pram and all to no avail. Have Apple really messed up with this Safari update? Can it be causing problems in other applications which need to access servers over the internet as well? Really really need some help here. Why do I suspect Safari it is the only thing that has been installed on my machine for months apart from the recent firmware update.
Just have to add this now. Just tried opening "software update" and it quit as the others. Maddening!

so now Dictionary is quitting as well, same as the others. Does it connect to the internet or share any components with Safari or Mail (spell checking?). I desperation I tried searching with Sherlock. Guess what? It quits as it tries to open.

Yahoo e-mail won't update the time since it's last update

Ok, so Yahoo Push has been unreliable since the release of the iPhone. However as of today I have a new issue.
When I go into my Yahoo e-mail Inbox on my iPhone and hit the update button, my e-mail account will update and download my new e-mails, however the "Updated Time" at the bottom of the screen seems to be stuck at 9:43am.
I have done the following to fix the issue to no avail:
- soft reset
- hard reset
- deleted the yahoo email account from the iPhone and re-installed it
- cleared cache, history and cookies from my iPhone
This issue only happens with my Yahoo INBOX. When I go to my trash, sent or other folders once the update has happened the "Updated Time" will change in those folders.
BTW - I am using a Yahoo Plus! account and switching to a Gmail account isn't a feasible solution.
Anyone else experiencing this issue? Anyone know how to fix this issue?

Out of desperation here is what I did to fix my problem. I should note that while this refreshed the time for when my inbox was most recently updated it also made my Yahoo Push emails come through immediateley and is still continuing to work.
1. Log into my Yahoo account (on my computer) and put all my inbox emails in a temporary holding folder
2. Update my Yahoo inbox on my iPhone so that it will show no emails in my Yahoo inbox
3. Delete my Yahoo account on my iPhone
4. Log back into Yahoo on my computer and drag all the the emails that I placed in the "holding folder" back into my inbox
5. Hard reset my iPhone
6. Create a new Yahoo account on my iPhone using the settings provided by the iPhone
7. Once the iPhone confirms the account viola...time is now updated on my inbox to show the most current date/time that it was updated and my Yahoo push emails are coming through without a problem.
Hope it works for you as well.

Summoning max. courage, I did what you advised. Here is the result. What does this tell you? My Lion 7.2 (mid 2011 iMac) has several annoying glitches (which I have so far tolerated through gritted teeth) but none that have actually stopped me working.
BTW, I see several items involving CleanMyMac which I did not know I had. It is generally villified as a trouble-maker. Spotlight can't find an app. or a utility of that name. How can I get rid of what's there please? Just delete?

I have a new imac with osx 10.6.8 and can't get letter box to open in the mail window with 3 columns. I have downloaded the latest version and it also didn't open in 10.6.7. Any ideas?

Letterbox downloads and installs and is enabled, but does not produce the 3 columns in the mail window. I had the same problem with 10.6.7 and now 10.6.8. The download is the latest version (0.24b9) and the forums indicated that it works with both osx versions. I have tried deleting the letterbox plug-in and then reinstalling, but still no luck with the 3 column mail page. Any ideas would be most welcome. Thanks

i just fixed this on my machine running 10.6.8. the typical workaround is to add appropriate UUIDs, which get updated with each new os build, and break plugins (see here). Follow those instructions, but instead of adding the UUIDs they suggest for 10.6.7, add these (I found them on my machine running 10.6.8, and they work):

for fixing on os x version 10.6.7, this may help (though letterbox 0.24b9 should work already).
i emailed the author (aaron harnly, harnly.net) about this, but haven't heard back (a few days). to be sure, i am quite grateful, as i think we all are, for his excellent plugin, and this workaround is quite simple for dealing with updates.
