Mail can receive not send iPhone 4

Hi chaps - I can send an email with a picture attached when connected via wifi but not when there is only 3g available - iphone 4 - small image size - I've checked all settings (this doesn't mean I have got those settings right)! ? many thanks for any help - Roger

If it is of any help I am also with Virgin in the UK.
Virgin will not allow you to send email though their servers unless you are connected direcly to them via your wifi or Broadband connection. This is in an attempt to stop spam.
I have the same problem and have overcome it by logging directly into my website's hosting email (Zimbra) via Safari.

Can receive, not send using Mail

I haven't been able to send emails from Mail on my iMac (Mac OS X) since Feb. 5. I can receive, but I can only send them remotely. I haven't changed anything in my settings, signature...etc. All of the updates have been performed. The strange part is that no one else here using a Mac and the Mail program, is having any issues with outgoing mail. Here's what a non-Mac tech has tried:

What I can tell you that you can pass along to them is the following:
1)      The password credentials for the outgoing server do not remain saved.
2)      I have deleted the “keychain access” under logins for (server) which had no effect.

4)      Outgoing server should be (server) on port 25 using password authentication.
5)      Attempted to go into” keychain access first aid” but it seems to be linked to another user. May be a starting point for someone to look at as I am not familiar with your system set up and a limited knowledge base concerning MACs..
The problem seems to be connected to the “keychain access” but I cannot identify the source. It’s linked to the issue of the outgoing server not saving the password so it can connect to the Ipswitch Imail server."

Any suggestions? I don't know who to turn to, as most of the support techs at my office work with PCs, not Macs.

Question: Are you using the Pay version of Yahoo mail? (Yahoo Premium)? How are you sending and receiving? VersaMail?
If not, the free version of Yahoo mail will not work with VersaMail as it is not a true "POP3" account.

Palm Pre Earthlink E-mail Issues. Please Help! Can receive not send.

It appears this is a common problem that no one has a definitive answer to. I have three e-mail accounts on my Palm Pre. Yahoo, GMail and Earthlink. With Yahoo and GMail I can send and recive with no problem. With Earthlink, I can only receive e-mail. Not send without incurring an e-mail application error. I have spoken with Earthlink, Sprint and Palm Support. Each had no advice, or at least advice that worked. I know many Earthlink subscribers have had the same problem, has anyone resolved the issue on the Palm Pre?
Any insight anyone can provide as to a solution that works would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried using Sprint's smtp servers for your earthlink account? I'm surprised none of the techs you spoke with suggested this. See this thread:

Being able to receive, but not send is a very old complaint with many phones and has been asked here a lot of times!

Mail can receive cannot send

I'm a new iPhine user. iPhone 5s. I've set up my email (2 accts - gmail and iCloud). In each case, I can receive messages just fine. When I send messages, I get the "woosh" sound, but the messages are not getting out. Same problem with both iCloud and with gmail. I have tried deleting each account and then reentering it.
Any ideas?

This is the second time in three months this has occurred. Bell Aliant suggested I contact Apple directly as the only option is to remove my e-mail account and reconfigure it. This will mean losing all my files. These files are very important as my account is a business account.
Bell Aliant thought perhaps it is an Apple problem and that Apple may better be able to remedy the situation without me losing my e-mail files.

An Internet email provider losses all your Mail and it's Apple's fault ??
Did they explain how the app managed to delete all of your mail and then not even let you have access ?
If that was the case the app should still be able to access the empty folders.
I know there is often blame and counter blame in these situations but there are limits.

I am not sure if this issue is going to help you but lets give it a try.
I know that where im from, which is the Netherlands, I am not able to sent e-mails from my iPhone or any other mobile device by using 3G or a random WIFI acces point. The provider only allowes you to sent e-mails when you are connected to a network of there own. Which means if you have provider "101" and your email settings are set up for this provider in your iPhone but your using the network of a friend of yours which is provider "202" you cannot sent emails from his network. Though you can receive them you may not sent.
As I said, I am not aware if this issue is the same for you totaly depents on the country and provider your using.

I'm having the exact same problem on my iMac. I can receive email from imap.mail.yahoo.com, but cannot receive from smtp.mail.yahoo.com. I have not changed these settings in years and as of a few days ago they stopped working. These settings work fine on my iPhone and iPad.
So far I have:
-Deleted accounts and reestablished them
-Deleted the Mail preference file ->com.apple.mail.plist

from yahoo help I managed to find configuration for IMAP , but could not apply them on TB , as TB have already Yahoo as POP in the configuration list

You cannot convert an existing account, but you can set up your Yahoo account as IMAP in parallel to the existing POP account. See

Mac mail can receive but can't send messages

mac mail, can receive messages, but can't send messages. The sent symbol just spins around, but does not send.

I am using Mail 7.3, on OS X 10.9.4 (i.e. latest as of Aug 2014). I have 4 email accounts, all with their own SMTP servers. All stopped sending email at the same time.
Taking the hint from your suggestion, I looked in Mail > Preferences > Accounts, and all the SMTP servers were shown as offline (this must be a Mac Mail bug). All accounts appear to be Online under Mail > Mailbox (pulldown), and are also Online if one highlights the Inbox account, right click.
The trigger for the bug, in my case, was adding a new email account, and when Mail could not access it, it took everything offline. Removing that account did not solve the problem.
After spending hours trying all sorts of alternatives, I found the way to solve the problem was to delete all the outgoing mail servers, and reenter the information (the same information).

My gmail account receives mail, but will not send, forward, or reply...it gets stuck in the spin and then I have to force quick firefox.

Clearly there's something wrong with the configuration. Reverting to some other mail application (whatever the 'standard' one is...) won't help.
What does the Connection Doctor (Mail -> Window -> Connection Doctor) have to say about it?

Both of those are carrier features, contact your cell phone provider and ask them why.
