Mail: Can't see addresses of senders

I cannot see the sender's email address for any incoming messages, nor can I see that in the results of a word search in either a specific mailbox or in all boxes (without looking at the Raw Source). Therefore, unless the sender puts that address in the body of the message (which is very unusual) I don't know who sent it to me. The sender's address seems an essential feature of any email client. Here is an example (the person is not in my Address book):
Of course, if the sender is in my Address Book, that sender's name will appear (as "Joe Bloggs"), but otherwise, not. This fault is present on both the Classic and the default layout system of Mail. (My version of Mail is 5.0)
A very clumsy workaround is to start the process of replying to the message, so that the sender's address appears in the "To" field. But surely Apple can do better than that.
Have I missed something in Mail > Prefs or somewhere? I really want this info to be readily available.

The email address is visible in the full message on the right pane, not the message list that you're looking at, which is just a short summary of the message.

  • ICloud + Apple mail; can I see content in mail folders on my mac?

Question for those who know iCloud.
If I am using iCloud + Apple mail; can I see content in mail folders on my mac?
Have 2 email accounts currently (yahoo and gmail), and use smart rules to move my email to them for organization automatically, issue is then I cannot see them on my iPhone mail, they are there, then "gone" when moved to the iMac folder.
    https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-MltXmqSQAXI/UkjrwPwtQmI/AAAAAAAAQk8/qwuOU7FFj dI/s720/iMac%2520mail.jpg

I don't see any evidence of an iCloud account there - do you actually have an @icloud.com address? iCloud syncs only its own email, it has no relationship to any other service.
However, if both your Mac and your iPhone are receiving, for example, Gmail, and you move a message on your Mac from the Gmail mailbos to a mailbox in the list under 'On My Mac' then this removes it from the GMail mailbox and as it's only on the Mac the iPhone cannot see it. In order to do what you want you have to create any new mailboxes on the GMail account itself and move the messages there.

  • Mail can't see my gMail

My Mail app can't see my gMail a/c, my main mail a/c, except for items in the inbox that I have not filed.
Background: I switched from a previous IMAP supplier to gMail IMAP last year, a slow business as gMail does not like the transfer of large numbers of messages at a time. Also, as my ADSL is very slow I did a lot of it away from home on an iBook running Tiger. As a result of this I ended up with a rather odd collection of folders that looked different on my iBook and iMac - some of the folders were white so I could not move new messages into them.
At the weekend I had a sort out of the structure except for one folder, which heaving emptied it, would not delete.
Then, all of a sudden almost all of my folders except the inbox vanished on both Macs, but to my relief all the mail still seems to be there on the web interface.
I have opened Mail again, but am afraid of a syncing disaster deleting my mail on the server.
Any ideas what is going on, I hate using the web interface?
    Cheers, Colin

Because they are not iCloud mail.  You can see iCloud mail (and only iCloud mail) in iCloud.
iCloud can back up your gmail and outlook mail account parameters (e.g., username) but not your message contents.

  • SOS: Mail messages there, but Mail can't see them!

Hi folks. My wife just changed ISPs. She had three email addresses through her own domain.
Now she can send and receive emails from all three, but in two of the three mail accounts all the emails that were in her account are 'gone'.
But they're not actually gone completely though - when I go to Users/xyz/library/mail the accounts are still there, and I can work down through the various inboxes etc and see the messages - when I doubleclick to open them they open in Mail.
It's not that they're in the wrong spot or anything - I can see that new emails are also going into those very same folders, so Mail's still 'pointing' the addresses to the right folders. It's just that Mail isn't displaying any messages that were there before today.
I'm guessing there must be some file that indexes the messages in the folder so that Mail knows they need to be displayed. Could anyone tell me what it is, and how I'd force it to rebuild/fix itself?
    BTW, I've tried restarting already.
Weird that one account went fine, all messages still showing, and the others have the problem.

    Hello Paul:
Try rebuilding the mailbox(s). Open Mail. Highlight the mailbox(s) you wish to rebuild. Click on mailbox>rebuild (menu bar).

  • ITunes 10.6 can't see Address Book

    Hi,
I recently have had my first really BAD Apple experience.  I upgrade my iPhone 4S to iOS 5.1.  This completely trashed my phone and the only way to get it working again was to set it up as a new phone, thereby losing all my app settings and 4 years worth of SMS's!
Anyway, during the restore, I noticed that no notes or contacts were copied over.  These are on my Mac in Mail and Address Book accordingly.
Looking at iTunes, it cannot see any of my Address Book or any of the groups.
I've done a workardound using iCloud, but even that is not syncing all the groups to the cloud, only some (and I cannot see where to select what is and what isn't sync'd!).
    So my questions are:
How can I get iTunes to see my Address Book again?
How can I get iTunes to see the notes in Mail again?
How do I configure iCloud to sync all contact groups?
This is causing me a real headache!
    System info:
    iPhone 4S 64GB, iOS 5.1
    Mac OS-X Lion (10.7.3)
    iTunes 10.6
    Thanks!
    James

    Hi,
SMS is the term for text messages. Only mentioned it to give full background. Don't think it's relevant to the issue at hand.
    Thanks!

  • Mountain Lion Mail - Can't see time machine recovered mailboxes

    If anyone can please help!
Somehow upgrading to mountain lion I lost mail.  I recovered these from time-machine.  For a while I could see them in the left-most pane under a heading called Time Machine.  But in archiving some old content this folder-header (like iCloud or on your mac) disappeared.  I know that the mail is still there as I can search for it.  Weirder still, if I create a new mail-box I can see a Time Machine folder under 'on your mac'.  I just can't get to the mail!  The screen-shot below shows two folders (one containing all my recovered mail sub-folders) in the 'create a new mailbox drop-down' but only one in the left-pane under 'on my mac'.
I really need to be able to use this mail; sort of why I backed it up....

Same problem here. After hitting the Restore-button in Time Machine to restore an e-mail, Time Machine is supposed to make a folder in Mail with the recoverd mail(s), but doesn't. Accessing by doing a search doesn't always lead to the restored file.

  • Can only see address bar.

When I open Safari the only thing that comes up is the address bar the rest of it just sort of disappeared (I see my wallpaper not the internet). Google Chrome is showing the whole image so it's just Safari. I'd post a screen shot but I don't see any option to do so.
What's going on and how do I fix it?

    HI,
That problem is usually due to a third party Safari plugin that isn't compatible with the later versions of Safari.
Follow these paths. You may have the Conduit/Community Toolbar installed.
    /Library/Application Support/Conduit
    /Library/InputManagers/CTLoader
    /Library/Receipts/ctloader.pkg
    /Library/Receipts/<Toolbar name>.pkg
    /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/CT2285220.bundle
    /Users/<User name>/Library/Application Support/Conduit
    and possibly here; Library/launchAgents/com.conduit.loader.agent.plist

  • MAIL: Can send group addresses Bcc

I have Bcc activated and when I try to put Group addresses in the Bcc area they won't go but immediately go to the "To" area. Can't get Group addresses in "Bcc" address area. Thanks.

*Hi paul, Welcome (Back)* to Apple's Users Help Users Forums.
In the "To" Box put yourself.
You should be able to put the Group in BCC then.
    Good Luck, JP

  • In Mail, is it possible to extract email addresses of senders from just one account inbox?

In Mail, is it possible to extract email addresses of senders from just one account inbox?

Click on the arrow next to the number of emails in the conversation. That'll show you each separate email. You can create a new mailbox (call it what you want) and drag that email out of the conversation into that mailbox.

  • How can I resend an IPhoto e-mail with the wrong address?

How can I resend an IPhoto e-mail that was returned because of an error I made in the address?

    ImagineThat:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. There is a 3rd party application, pdf-RecoverPro, that will let you lock the file to printing, changing, etc. You set two passwords, one to let the user view it and one to unlock the restricted features. Just provide the first password and send the file. You can try the demo version. It just saves one page in demo mode.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How can I see the indivduals in an existing group email address - that I created

I have a group email address on Thunderbird that I created some time ago but have forgotten how to open it up to see who is on it - I need to alter it.
    Thanks

    click on 'Address Book'
A sub group known as a Mailing List will be a sub group to an address book.
If Mailing Lists are not showing, click on the small arrow to the left of the address book containing the Mailing List.
See image below - example shows I have a 'Test' Masiling list as a sub group to 'Personal Address Book'
Then select the Mailing list to see who is in that Mailing List.
Removing contacts from a Mailing list does not remove them from the associated address book.
Removing them from the associated address book will remove them from both address book and Mailing list.
You can drag and drop new contacts into a Mailing List, but they do need to have a valid email address.

I tried to send a mail message to too many addees. when the rejection came back "cannot send message using the server..." the window is too long to be able to see the choices at the bottom of it. how can I see the choices at the bottom of that window?

I tried to send it through gmail and the acct is  a POP acct
I'm not concerned about sending to the long address list. I just can't get the email and window that says "cannot send emai using the server..." to go away. The default must be "retry", because although I cannot see the choices at the bottom of the window if I hit return it trys again... and then of course comes back with the very long pop up window that I cannot see the bottom of so I can tell it to quit trying...

    Hi,
Would you please detail what you did by "changing a mail list name in Server end"? What is the mail list and what server?
If you switch to Online Mode instead of Cached Exchange Mode, does the user see the change?
