Mail Can't Send Via Gmail

Using Mail, I send a message to [email protected] using Charter, my ISP. Click Get Mail. Mail shows MyID offline and Mail asks if I want it online. Click Online. It shows online. Click Get Mail. MyID goes off line. Click Mail > Preferences > Accounts > MyID. MyID has no password. Enter Password. Click another account. Click Save. Go back to MyID and there is no password.
In the meantime, I sent a message, using MyID, to another account. No problem.

Wow.... that's confusing.
Using Mail,I send a message to [email protected] using Charter, my ISP.
So, you're on the computer, or the iPhone at this point?
Click Get Mail.
On what?
Mail shows MyID offline and Mail asks if I want it online.
I don't understand this.
Click Online. It shows online. Click Get Mail. MyID goes off line. Click Mail > Preferences > Accounts > MyID. MyID has no password. Enter Password.
Still lost - Are you in Settings on the iPhone?
Click another account. Click Save.
Why are you clicking another account? What other account?
Go back to MyID and there is no password.
No idea here either.
In the meantime, I sent a message, using MyID, to another account. No problem.
Sorry - I'm not trying to be difficult here - I just don't understand your situation at all here. Can you explain with a little more detail?

  • Can't send via gmail @ work, but fine from home

I have no trouble sending gmail mail via the Mail app at home, but mail will not send at work. I am guessing that the port number could be an issue, but this is not editable as far as I can tell, and even if it was I wouldn't know what port to change it to.
Any ideas? My current work-around is to use the gmail web page at work to manage emails.

Your assumption is correct. Your company must be blocking the ports to prevent you from sending outgoing emails, but I'd guess you have no trouble receiving emails at all, and you use proxy script on your web browser? I have same situation at work myself.
My work around? Use my verizon wifi.

  • Mail crashing when sending via Gmail

I've been sending and receiving through my Gmail account just fine for months now. However, over the last two days or so, Mail will get stuck in a crash loop if I attempt to send a message through Gmail - but not any of my other accounts. Mail behaves fine if I send through .Mac or any of my personal hosting email accounts.
When trying to send through Gmail, Mail will crash while appearing as though it is still trying to send the message. The kicker is that, often times, the message actually gets sent out; this has resulted in duplicates being sent to friends and a couple email lists I'm on.
Upon starting Mail back up, it attempts to send the message again - which causes another crash. The only way I've been able to stop this is to use the keyboard shortcut to quickly bring up the activity panel and cancel the sending operation before the crash occurs.
I have removed all plugins I use (MailTags and Mail Act-On) in a troubleshooting effort to find out if they were causing the problem. Nothing changed; Mail keeps crashing when sending through Gmail.
    Any thoughts are much appreciated.

Verify/repair your disk first (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
When an application crashes (i.e. quits unexpectedly), the system writes information about the state of the application at the moment of the crash into a log file. That information is called a crash report and it makes troubleshooting much easier. In order to find and paste the relevant part of the crash report here, proceed as follows:
    1. Open ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/Mail.crash.log. The whole Mail crash log appears on a Console window (you can also open that file with any text editor). It may contain many crash reports. We only want the latest, which is located at the bottom of the file.
    2. Look for a line that begins with "Date/Time:" as close to the bottom as possible, and another that says "Thread N Crashed:", where N is a number. Select everything from the "Date/Time:" line to the lines immediately following "Thread N Crashed:". Copy that text and paste it here. Do not post the whole crash log, and do not include anything beyond the lines immediately following "Thread N Crashed:" either, just the relevant part.
Take a look at the following thread for examples of what a crash report looks like:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=466701
In the meantime, you may try re-creating the preferences file, in case there is something wrong with it (the account settings are stored in this file):
    1. Quit Mail.
    2. Make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is stored.
    3. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences/. Locate the com.apple.mail.plist file and move it to the Desktop (to be deleted if this fixes the problem).
You'll have to set up your non-Mac accounts from scratch all over again. If given the option to import existing mailboxes or something like that, don't. Just enter the account information and Mail will automagically rediscover the data in ~/Library/Mail/ when done.
You'll also have to re-configure most of your settings in Mail > Preferences. For spam-related security reasons, the first thing you should do is go to Preferences > Viewing and disable Display remote images in HTML messages if it's enabled.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the file path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the file path there.

  • Mail can't send email from 123-reg accounts

    Hi all,
I've got an issue with Mac Mail can’t send email from 123-reg accounts.
I know there is a lot of articles on simular matters and some I have tried out with no luck, others are just speaking a whole other language.
Any help would be greatly recived, here's my situation below:
    Running a iMac 2.8GHz Intel Core i5 on OS X 10.8.3
I’m using 3 accounts on Macs Mail client, one is my iCloud account that is working fine and the other two are my 123-reg accounts that I use for business purposes. I’ve been working like this for a couple of years now and about 6 months ago I upgrade my operating system from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.
2 or 3 months ago I randomly got a problem where I was unable to send any emails from my 123-reg account, I could only receive emails. I checked my settings and they were all correct and unchanged so I attempted to delete them and recreate the account but with no such luck.
I then decided to check if it was a problem at 123-regs end and attempted to log into web mail. This worked and was able to both send and receive emails so eliminated that possibility.
I also have these accounts set up on my iPhone, so checked if there was any issues and everything was working fine. I then checked my iphone details and made sure the same was on my desktop and still no such luck.
I’ve tried out some of the articles I’ve found on here (the ones written in plain English) still no results. I’m not very IT illiterate and just wondered if anyone else has got any ideas, whether there is something specific with 123-reg accounts and Mac Mail?
    Many thanks.

    Thanks
I just had another hunt around looking at posts and discovered that it was because I recently changed to BT Infinity and they had a block on.
I didn't even think to question the ISP.

  • Mail can't send messages

I have AT&T Yahoo DSL and my imac mail can't send messages. It says the smpt server has timed out trying to send the message on port 25.

Open Connection Doctor in the Window menu
Double click on whatever is showing as red.
    Check the following settings.
    pop.att.yahoo.com
    smtp.att.yahoo.com
Click Advanced to enter the SSL and port info.
Both incoming and outgoing mail use authentication
Use (SSL) and SMTP port 465.
Use (SSL) and change the POP3 port 995.
Confirm the above settings before clicking OK.
    Then check connection doctor again.
There is an incoming mail server and an outgoing mail server for each account.
So for each account there should be 2 servers.
Count how many servers there are set up in connection doctor.

  • Mail Can't Send To "NULL"

After adding an iPhone to my setup, suddenly Mail has decided not to send on the first try from certain accounts. I get a long message that basically says "Mail can't send from account 'NULL', select another server". So I click edit and re-send and the mail goes out fine on the original server that had been specified – I do not select another server as the dialogue box suggests.
Is there anyway to fix this so I don't have to send every e-mail twice?

    Hey Woodwyn.
I'm having the same exact problem.
It's been happening for a while(several years), but lately, it's been doing it more often.
I repaired permissions, and all that stuff.
My computer is a lap top, and when I take it to work, the Mail program does the same thing.
I don't select a different server. It's already set to the correct server. Why should I change it?
And my network setting are fine. I haven't changed them, so why should I even check them?
Anyway, I have to click "send" 4 or 5 times, in order for my e-mails to send.
The error message says exactly this:
"Cannot send message using the server (null)
The server response was: From: address not verified; see http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/manage/sendfrom-07.html
Use the pop-up menu below to try a different outgoing mail server. All messages will use this server until you quit Mail or change your network settings."
    Very frustrated right now.

  • How do you send a video via Gmail? Since upgrading to ios7 on my Ipad, ican't send .can only receive on the Mail. Can do both on Gmail but when I go on attatch it only accesses my pics not my videos

Since upgrade to ios7, I have not been able to send messages via Mail. I can only receive.I can do both on Gmail but when I try to attatch, it only accesses photos not videos, any idea how I can attatch a video?

Here's a troubleshooting article from Apple:  iOS: Troubleshooting Mail
It doesn't seem to cover your specific issue, but have you tried using a different network (either a different wi-fi network, or switching from wi-fi to cellular or vice-versa if you have a wi-fi+cellular iPad)?
For GMail, iCloud and Yahoo, copies of messages are stored on their respective servers, so you could try deleting the account on your iPad, then re-adding each account one at a time to see if that resolves the issue.

  • Upgraded to Lion, now Apple Mail no longer sends via SMTP to GMAIL

Greetings! First and foremost, THANK YOU for reading this discussion.  I truly appreciate any and all assistance. Being one who likes to exhaust all resources before posting, I have literally spent that last 7 and a half hours reading pages and pages of threads here, on Google Forums along with finding other data across the net.
The problem started immediately upon the LION upgrade.   Everything worked fine until the upgrade and then BOOM...no more Apple Mail sending to Gmail SMTP server.  I can receive Gmail just fine, but no can send. When a message is sent, after a long while, an error message pops up stating that the SMTP server is "off line."  Obviously it is timing out.
I have confirmed the settings in Preferences.  I have cleaned the hard drive (running the internal First Aid app).  I confirmed the password was correct in KeyChain.  I have tried a lot of corrective methods as stated in the threads.
I have tried using different ports (25, 465, 587).  I have set the connection from smtp.gmail.com to actual IP addresses including the following:
    209.85.227.109
    74.125.91.109
    74.125.39.16
    74.125.157.109
    74.125.113.109
    173.194.68.109
I tried it with and without TLS/SSL enabled.
    With authentication and without.
I even tried to telnet from the Mac to smtp.gmail.com without success.  (I can telnet from a Windows machine though...OUCH)
I am NOT running LION OS X server, just plain old LION OS 10.8.2 on my MacBrook Pro.
Thank you in advance for any and all courtesies extended.  Looking to resume using Apple Mail with my Gmail account ASAP.
    Sincerely,
    MWG2

Thanks Lanny...tried it...still doesn't work.  Called Apple Support...switched to Tier 2 support person Chris P. Was on the phone with him for 2 hours and 38 minutes...we tried everything under the sun...still can't get to smtp.gmail.com...can't even telnet to it from Mac.  We did network testing too...he thought my router was blocking ports 25, 465 & 587 but the router wasn't. After exhausting every concievable MAC setting, trying a number or solutions, killing the account and re-installing multiple times, his conclusion is that there is a third party software "blocking" the send in gmail...ummmmm...makes no sense to me as everything worked perfectly until I upgraded to OS X. Hence his solution is for me to take my Mac to the Apple Store and have them look at it.  My solution?  Don't use mail on the Mac and keep using Mail on my Windows machine.  I prefer Mac, but I have now spent over the last two days in excess of 10 hours on this problem...it's not supposed to be this difficult. Lesson Learned...if something's working, DON'T goof with it...Apple Mail under Snow Leopard worked perfectly...upgraded to Mt. LION (paid for it) and now I am really paying the price for doing that.

  • Can't send from Gmail on office wifi - iOS 7

I as well as the rest of my office have been unable to send emails from Gmail accounts on iOS 7 devices. iOS 6 devices send, but slowly. Shut off wifi and send via wireless data works just fine. Sending from home wifi works just fine. According to mail setttings, doesn't appear to be a port switch but unsure how to instruct the IT dude on anything on the wirewall that may need to be adjusted. Any thoughts?

STMP is being blocked on the network. There's really not much we can do about that.
You can use your 3G connection to get messages out
    Use Gmail online
Wait until lunch/breaks to send email?
Talk to IT and ask about sending mail/SMTP connections.

  • Recieve Mail from Yahoo, Send through Gmail

I have it setup so I can receive mail through AOL (my gmail is forwarded to aol which my iPhone then receives). Then I send through google's smtp server. No one ever knows it exists. What I would really like to do is receive through yahoo email (push) and then send through gmail. How can I accomplish that. I can not seem to find yahoo's imap server information.

I would have your gmail forwarded to yahoo. Then set up your iphone using "other" when you add an account. The incoming server is: smtp.att.yahoo.com. The outgoing is gmail. And you can put in the field whatever email address you want for others to see!

  • AdBlockPlus is preventing me from attaching photos to emails I want to send via gmail. How to I fix this?

Quite some time ago I switched to Mozilla Firefox, and installed AdBlocker. Have had NO ads since then and have been very happy with it. Ever since I've had AdBlocker, when I go to attach a file to an email I'm about to send in gmail, I see a little word "Block" pop up over "Attach a file". I just always ignored it. Now, however, I find I am unable to attach photos I want to send. When I click on that little word "Block" I get a whole menu that I don't really understand titled Add AdBlock Filter Rule.
It shows this in the "New Filter" field at top: "||mail.google.com/mail/uploader/*. Under that a "Blocking Filter" radio button is selected, and under, under "Look for "Pattern", I see the item "mail.google.com/mail/uploader/*" is selected. At the bottom of the screen is a radio button "Custom" that has https://mail.google.com/mail/uploader/uploaderapi2.swf after it, but that button is not selected.
I just removed all custom filters in an attempt to get rid of whatever is disallowing me to attach photos. But that didn't work. Any ideas? I'm lost.

OK. Thank you. Is there any way to get rid of that little "Block" pop up above over "Attach a file" when composing an email in Gmail? I think the problem I'm having (being prevented from attaching photos to emails) is because I may have inadvertently clicked that Block pop-up numerous times. I can't think of any time when I would want to block myself from attaching items to email I compose. So I don't really need that pop-up. How can I stop that from appearing?

  • Yahoo Biz mail can't send - Outgoing server "(null)" failed

I recently purchased the iPhone and can't get my Yahoo biz mail account to send mail, it only receives. I have read the other thread on this topic and reported it via the Apple feed back site but I still have not seen anyone post a reply that has found a solution for this other than using POP3 which then limits folder access only to the inbox. Does anyone have a success story for this issue and a way to solve the problem? Please reply if you have any info. Thanks!

Try cwmx.com as the host name on outgoing server under mail. I don't use Yahoo biz mail , but it solved my problem last week

  • Can receive mail - Can't send

The past few weeks I can not send emails. This happened after I did the update. Anyone know if they are fixing this?

    Hi Ron
By other troubleshooting procedures I meant eliminating possible drive/directory problems. Repairing privileges and permissions etc.
Assuming your ISP's uses the standard ports then outbound mail should be using Port 25. Inbound Port 110. However sometimes some ISP's allow mail to be sent via a different submission port, usually 587. So you could try that.
One final thing you could try? Call your ISP and ask them if they've changed anything. At the very least you can verify the correct settings with them. Not just the mail server settings and ports but double-check your user name and password with them as well.
One final thing you could try is to create another admin account, log in with that and recreate your mail account (assuming you're using Apple Mail?) Try a test send to yourself and see what happens.
If that works then you could log back in with your account, delete the newly created test account, quit out of Apple Mail if you have it open, move the Mail folder in /Users/Home/Library/Preferences to the desktop, launch Apple Mail again and use the Import feature to bring all your mail back again. Recreate any signatures and rules you may have had previously.

  • Mail has stopped sending via exchange account after syncing with Mobile Me

    Hi There,
I'm having trouble tracking down the cause of this issue, but after resetting sync data on two macs (10.6.7) neither can send emails using our work account (iPad and iPhone seem fine).
When I reply to emails for work (on a third-party hosted exchange server) I receive an error saying that it can't send and suggests choosing another server. The only server in the list is Mobile Me which has the word (offline) next to it.
    1.
Should the exchange server appear in the list of available servers?
    2.
It looked like Mail was trying to use mobile me to send the work emails but was failing because it rejected the address, so I deleted mobile me from the SMTP server list in an effort to force mail to use the Exchange server but no joy.
The connection doctor sucessfully connects to the exchange server so it obviously sees the connection and the exchange account is set to only use the exchange server (it appears in the dropdown but not in the edit servers list).
Has anyone else seen this - need to send a few work emails!
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Cheers
    Ben
