Mail:  Cannot delete email

I have IMAC running 10.5.7
I have an email in my inbox.  When i try to delete it, the computer crashes (the pinwheel runs forever).  Probably a corrupt file.  How can I delete this?  Is there another file somewhere else on the computer where emails are stored and I can delete from there?

Hi,
Likely it is Mail or disk corruption.
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup),  it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
Reboot.
Note, in 10.5 & up /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/ may or may not exist.

  • "Mail" cannot delete mails on my mac

This is about the application "Mail".
Besides the mailboxes, mail will also list "ON MY MAC" at side bar. Inside each mail account, there will be "All Mail", "Drafts", ... associated with this mail account. The question is that I cannot delete emails in "All Mail". I deleted some emails, then after about 10 minutes, you can see those emails are brought back to "All Mail". I have no idea what have causing those. All I want to do is to delete some ad, some spam emails in my GMAIL account, but those deleted emails (in ON MY MAC -> mail account -> "All Mail") are back agin, agin, and again. This is so annoying! Does anyone know how to deail with this?

Try turning the account off and on : Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars , then tap the account on the right, slide Mail to 'off', exit settings and go back into the Mail app, and then go back to Settings and slide Mail back to 'on'
If that doesn't work then try closing the Mail app completely : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
Also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

lost bottom banner when open "mail" cannot delete e-mails?

Close the mail app. Then double tap on the home button to bring up the multi-tasking bar. Swipe upwards on the mail app. Reset the phone. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. Once the phone reboots, try opening mail and see if this returns.

  • I cannot delete emails on iphone 5

I cannot delete emails on my iphone5. I do not have the delete button visable either while trying to delete on email on batch.

Not clear what you are asking,  There is no "batch" delete option for the Inbox - all emails have to be deleted individually.  Only the Trash folder has a "Delete All" button shown after touching "Edit"
To delete individual emails, swipe finger across the preview and "Delete" will show, or select "Edit" on top right and select each one you want to delete.

Ask Apple to re-enable it. I had an unauthorized purchase last October. They disabled my account until the problem was solved. However, I asked them to reopen it, and they just asked me to provide some security information (billing address, a recent purchase you made, etc.), and then they re-enabled it.

  • I cannot delete emails I have a iphone 3GS running IOS 6.0.1

I cannot delete emails, I have an iphone 3GS runningIOS 6.0.1. I tap edit and the red circle appears, but no delete rectangle or dustbin appears

AT&T does not issue unlock codes for iPhones.  I had to think a minute, because I never had a 3GS myself, and thought it might have been different for them, but my daughter had one, and the unlock process is the same as for the 4.  After AT&T approves the unlock (which means the contract has been fulfilled), they notify Apple.  AT&T then sends the phone's owner an email detailing the process to unlock the phone, which consists of backing up the data, then restoring the phone as new in iTunes (which is where the unlock comes in), then restoring the data backup and then syncing.  I went through this to unlock my AT&T iPhone 4.  SO, I'm not sure what the unlock code business is about, except that it doesn't sound legit.

  • Cannot delete emails in Thunderbird

I cannot delete emails from thunderbird. The client gives me an error "The current operation on 'inbox' did not succeed. The mailserver for [MYACCOUNT] responded: [TRYCREATE] The requested item could not be found." What does this mean? This is using IMAP FYI.
Thanks in advance for any help,
    -Steve

I found how to fix it here:

Unfortunately, I cannot delete the other "Trash" folder now. How do I delete it?

  • Cannot delete emails: no circle to check for delete

More often than not I cannot delete emails from my iPhone.  When I choose edit no circle appears to allow me to delete emails.
    Any advice is appreicated.

You can also delete the messages by swiping your finger to the right and the delete button should appear. However, if the way to delete is not appearing when you touch the edit button, you need to try some troubleshooting steps.
First, power the iPhone off/on. See if that fixes it.
If not, then reset the iPhone. Do this by holding the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo, then release. After the iPhone restarts, try again.
If not, then a restore is next. Restore from a backup in iTunes. If no better, then restore as a new iPhone.
The reset has no affect on your data. A restore from backup does not affect data, however restoring as a new phone will delete everything off the phone. You will have to resync all of your data back to the phone.

  • Cannot delete emails in Mail

Hey everyone, since I upgraded to Mavericks I just cannot delete the emails I need. Some advices say to delete the account and create the same again, but it does not work in my case. Could you help me please? Thank you very much

This does not answer/solve the OP's question/problem as they would still have to select each email individually before selecting the "delete all" button. In the end this the same as selecting "delete" on each message individiually.
There is no practical way to do what the OP wants.

  • Cannot delete emails on iPad

Could someone please let me know how to remedy this problem I am having with
    My mails.
A pop up message appears alerting me that it cannot move mails to trash?

    Hello, Joe.
I would recommend closing any open applications in multitasking and restarting the device.  If unfamiliar with multitasking, I have included an article that walks you through the process of an application close.  Test the results after processing these steps.

  • Mail:Cannot read emails in server

No error messages. Doctor connects. I can send emails. I cannot get emails off server to apple mail. I can see (subject titles from Pop3 server) and delete emails from "account information". All this after account name change. 25 hours and no progress made. Please help. grayfish

What’s the problem exactly? Is it that Mail doesn’t check for mail on this account, or that it checks but downloads nothing, or what?
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list. Leave checked (enabled) only the port configuration needed to connect to Internet and Built-in Ethernet (in that order if not the same), uncheck (disable) the rest of network port configurations and see whether that helps — if it doesn’t, turn ON again the ones you want enabled.
Could it be that the account is in an “offline” state? Is the Mailbox > Go Online command enabled or disabled?
Open Window > Activity Viewer and tell Mail to check for mail on this account. What do you see Mail doing there?
Do the messages that Mail doesn’t download but show up in the Account Info window appear as already downloaded or as not downloaded yet (dot column)?
All this after account name change.
Not sure what you mean here. Could you please elaborate?

  • I cannot delete emails on my new i pad

I cannot figure out how to delete emails from my new Ipad. i continue to get a message "unable to move message"

Try going into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Then select the account on the right-hand side of that screen, select Account, then Advanced, Deleted Mailbox, and under On The Server tap the 'Trash' folder (or whatever it is called by your provider) so that it gets a tick against it - then come out of that series of popups by tapping on the relevant buttons at the top of them and then see if you can delete emails.
