Mail cannot find outgoing server

Updated to lion as well as I cloud. exchange account can't send. Mine works, wife's doesn't, settings seem identical.

At the risk of repeating what you already know, I'll try to describe how to declare an SMTP server. This advice assumes that you know what settings you need to use for your SMTP server.
In Mail, pull down the Mail menu and select "Preferences..." Click on "Accounts" at the top. In the left column click on the account that you're using. Be sure that the "Account Information" tab is active. At the bottom of the panel should be an item labeled "Outfoing Mail Server (SMTP):" You should see your SMTP server there. To check its settings, pull down the SMTP server list and select "Edit Server List..." In the resulting panel select your SMTP server. Click on the "Advanced" tab. Apply the settings needed for your SMTP server. Click on "OK", then close the "Preferences" window.

  • Mail cannot find outgoing mail server on imac

I have had a standard pop/smpt work email set up on my old laptop with windows XP for a while - all working fine. I recently bought an iMac and although on the same network iMail doesn't recognize the smpt outgoing server.. It doesn't even make it to choosing ports as it says the smpt server is not responding. If I continue I can receive mails, but not send...
I am quite illiterate when it comes to computers, so can someone please help me with this in simple terms?

Do not delete the old account yet. sign up for an iCloud account if you haven't.
I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
              •          Server name: imap.mail.me.com
              •          SSL Required: Yes
              •          Port: 993
              •          Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
              •          Password: Your iCloud password
    SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
              •          Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
              •          SSL Required: Yes
              •          Port: 587
              •          SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
              •          Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
              •          Password: Your iCloud password
Also, you must upgrade your password to meet the new criteria:  8 characters, including upper and lower case and numbers.  If you have an older password that does not meet these criteria, when you try to setup mail on your mac, using all of the IMAP criteria listed above, it will still give a server error message.  Go to   http://appleid.apple.com         then follow directions to change your password, then go back to setting up your mail using the IMAP instructions above.

  • Safari and firefox 'cannot find the server' for every other page that i navigate to, unless I turn Wifi off and on. How do I fix this?

Safari and firefox 'cannot find the server' for every other page that i navigate to, unless I turn Wifi off and on. Once i reconnect to the network, the page loads, but after loading a few more pages, the same thing happens all over again.
This happens each and every time, on different Wifi networks, in different locations.  On the other hand, I don't ever encounter this problem when I tether my laptop to my mobile phone's 3g/2g network using Personal Hotspot. How do I fix this?

    Try this DNS server ...
Open System Preferences > Network > Advanced > DNS
    Click + and type:
    208.67.222.222
Click + again and do the same.
    208.67.220.220
    Click OK.
Quit and relaunch both your browsers to test.
If that doesn't help, try here >  iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections

  • Safari cannot find the server and question mark in blue square

    Hi
I consistently have problems with safari displaying the message safari cannot find the server. The version I have is 5.1.8 and I installed a security update today (23.3.13) hoping it would solve the problem. After refreshing the page a couple of times or restarting safari everything works as normal but this is an ongoing issue. I also have problems with images loading on sites. They appear as blue squares with question marks. I have tried most things people have said on the net but nothing is working.
    Please help!
    Thanks

    HI aad1612,
Try deleting the safari plist by foloowing these instructions:

Click and HOLD the alt/option key (Library should appear in the above list)
Keep holding the alt/otion key and click on Library (this will open a new window)
Open the Preference folder (NOT Preference Panes)
    Look for com.apple.Safari.plist
Right mouse client to move this file to trash

  • Cannot Find the Server

    Hi All,
When I run a page in Jdeveloper (even the successfully tested projects), i get the output page as Cannot find the server. In my Embedded OC4j preferences, i have given my local IP as prefered as I am using VPN. Then , the proxy settings as No proxy (again cuz of VPN). Kindly help me out in solving the issue, i have even tried deleting the base folders and re zipped to C drive, yet no luck.
    Thanks
    Narain

The issue got solved. I changed my browser from Internet explorer to Firefox and included my local IP in its exception list of proxys and it worked.
    Thanks

  • Nokia 9500 problem: cannot find specified server

After some deliberation, I have finally managed to connect my Nokia 9500 to the internet via the WLAN router in my home. So I can access websites ok, although it's slow and some of the webpage elements don't load. Anyhoo... my problem is with Real audio files now. For some reason, it won't download them to my phone when I click save, it just gives me the message "cannot find specified server" and doesn't download anything. I even get this message sometimes as webpages are loading, but after clicking "ok" it continues to load the page and seems to work fine. Anyone know what the problem could be? I'm using a T-mobile pay-as-you-go sim in my phone and my ISP is Tiscali. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
The problem is that your internal machines need to access the server's dns to resolve the host name.
    2 steps.
    1. Ensure that DNS in server.app is forwarding requests to your ISP dns server and that server is set to provide DNS
for some or all clients and that you have your DNS primary zone setup with a machine record for the server.
    2. Change the DNS server address within network settings on all other devices to the servers tcpip address.
    Hope that helps
    Cheers
    Gerry

  • TS3276 Apple Mail cannot find replies or forwarded emails -- the little arrows on the left of the list of emails: "Mail was unable to find your reply to the message '[subject of message]'. You may have deleted the message."  I did not delete the message.

Apple Mail cannot find replies or forwarded emails -- the little arrows on the left of the list of emails: "Mail was unable to find your reply to the message '[subject of message]'. You may have deleted the message."  I did not delete the message.  Bug in the program, or am I missing something?

Of course they're in my Sent folder.  Then why can't Apple Mail find them?

  • Cannot find outgoing mail server (smtp) for my email account.

I am trying to set up my college email account and cannot find the smtp sever. I contacted IT at my school and they said they had no idea what I was talking about... I know that it uses microsoft outlook.. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I could find the server. (I did however find the mailgate and entered my username and password)

    johnnyg713,
It sounds like your school might be utilizing an Exchange server. You may want to ask if it is possible to access the server via IMAP, and if so what to use for incoming and outgoing server settings.
This article has more information on setting up email on the iPhone:

  • I am trying to log in to my MSN Hotmail e-mail account, and after entering my login info, I get the error message that Firefox cannot find the server. Why not?

When trying to log into my MSN Hotmail account (@msn.com), after I enter my credentials, Firefox gives me an error message that "Firefox can't find the server at blu152.mail.live.com". I am able to log in easily from the same computer using Internet Explorer. I think this problem just started yesterday. Why is Firefox unable to connect to my e-mail account?

  • Can't Send Mail with Same Outgoing Server

I have 2 Roadrunner accounts that use the same outgoing smtp server. In order for me to send email (receiving POP email is not a problem), I have to set the outgoing server for port 25, no SSL and no authentication. I can get one of the accounts to work. But, when I try to set up the 2nd roadrunner account with the same settings on the same outgoing server, I get an error from OSX mail telling me the following:
    "Could not save the changes
The servers marked with alert icons are in conflict and cannot be saved. Two servers cannot share the same address and authentication settings. Resolve the conflicts and try again."
Can someone help me figure out how to get around this? I'd really like to send mail from my accounts.
    Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
Perhaps I'm missing something, but can't you have both accounts use the same SMTP server? If you're still trying to create the second account using the account creation wizard, I'd try giving it dummy SMTP information, then change it to use the real SMTP server once the account is created.

  • Mail.app frustration - outgoing server is "none", error when saving changes

    Hi,
I hope somebody can help. I can receive mail fine but cannot send. I had to make a change to my outgoing server yesterday due to a hosting changeover.
I have 2 POP3 accounts for work in Mail.app. The send button is grayed out so I can't write or reply to any mail. Checking the account settings I can see that my outgoing server is listed as "None" and the box is checked to "use only this server". The proper server is listed in the drop down menu here, and I can select it. When I change to the 2nd account or close, I am prompted to Save, Don't Save, or Cancel. When I click Save I get an error that "You already have an account named "x"." This is completely ridiculous, why could I save changes yesterday but not today?
Everything was fine with the new server settings yesterday, and until an hour ago today. Windows computers in my domain are working perfectly with the exact same settings.
While typing this I actually got the 2nd account to accept the changes, but the 1st account is still giving me an error. The settings are the same for both! What gives? Is there a preference file I can edit manually to fix this?

That has nothing to do with it. I ended up working around the problem by changing the account name.
But I still think this is a bug, so I won't mark the topic as answered (a workaround is not the solution).

  • Cannot delete outgoing server settings

Occasionally my outgoing email refuses to send - the message that comes up refers to an outgoing server setting that is in my settings, but not selected or active...obviously why it won't send the email. The correct outgoing server is selected in the preferences panel, but it doesn't make any difference, but sometime after repeated send attempts it works!!?
So I decided I should delete the non-active server setting...and here's the problem, I cannot see how to delete them.
I've seen this as an "answered" query within these discussions, but I think this must be an older system, as it refers to an 'Edit Server' list (I only have 'Server Settings' and then a 'Remove Server' button (see below), which simply doesn't exist on my preferences.
"You can delete the servers in Mail
    Preferences -> Accounts
Pick any account and select the outgoing mail server drop down box.
At the bottom is Edit Server List
Choose the account you want to remove, then click remove server."
So does anyone have any idea how I delete these outgoing server settings?
    Thanks in advance

Ah I see them now at the bottom of they drop-down list!!...I just focussed on the list of server settings (I have about 10). Seems an odd place to have them!
As a 1984 veteran I feel quite foolish now!
    Thanks Jim

  • Tons of Cannot Find SQL Server errors in ULS log

Background: I inherited the maintenance of this farm. The previous consultant migrated the client from WSS 3.0 to 2013 by way of 2007 MOSS and 2010 (unsure of version). I do not know if there was a "temporary" SQL server used during this process
that no longer exists. It seems likely given all of the errors regarding a missing SQL server.
The current 2013 Enterprise farm contains 1 WFE and 3 App servers, 2 of which comprise the search topology. There is one SQL server, not aliased. All machines are VMs. One of the search servers (App) is on a different ESXi host. The timer job that is creating
all of the ULS errors is running on the WFE. Beyond that, the farm has these symptoms:
It "works" albeit very slowly. Crawl rate of 2-7 dps for both external file shares and the SP content (both with and without Task Offloading / Chimney Offloading enabled). It seems to frequently recycle or take an otherwise long time to render
in the browser (any page). Finally, it  spews tens of thousands of errors 24x7 on the WFE saying a SQL server (unnamed) cannot be contacted via Named Pipes.
Specifically: "Unknown SQL Exception 53 occurred. Additional error information from SQL Server is included below.  A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or
was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)".
The next error in the sequence is: "An internal error occurred while running a timer job: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that
the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) at System.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionPool.TryGetConnection(DbConnection owningObject,
UInt32 waitForMultipleObjectsTimeout, Boolean allowCreate, Boolean onlyOneCheckConnection, DbConnectionOptions userOptions, DbConnectionInternal& connection)..."
This is followed by an error such as this: "There was an internal error invoking the timer job '{E4DDC92E-0056-4E7E-BD3F-1CF5670ACB7D}' for service '{6105D588-FB34-4F1C-82F6-479D7FE146EA}'."
Of course, each time the timer job mentioned is different.
One more error appears consistently with these although not as frequently: "The Execute method of job definition Microsoft.SharePoint.Diagnostics.SPDiagnosticsMetricsProvider (ID 36e6942a-9a80-440f-94a4-e4a606362734) threw an exception. More information
is included below.  Connection Timeout Expired.  The timeout period elapsed while attempting to consume the pre-login handshake acknowledgement.  This could be because the pre-login handshake failed or the server was unable to respond back in
time.  The duration spent while attempting to connect to this server was - [Pre-Login] initialization=21276; handshake=0;"
I have been troubleshooting this for days but am not making much progress. How can I determine just what SQL server it says it cannot find and where that server name is stored? It seems like it has to be part of the Timer job configuration since the two
    things are related.
