Mail cannot verify my mail server's root certificate

When I try to send an email, I get a warning message saying that mail cannot verify my mail servers root certificate. I have tested the certificate and it had a blue boarder not a gold one, I can't remember what this means but I think its not recognised. This has only just started happening.
Apparently the root server is VeriSign Class 3 Extended Validation
Mail was unable to verify the identity of this server, which has a certificate issued to "smtp.mac.com". The error was:
The root certificate for this server could not be verified.
You might be connecting to a computer that is pretending to be "smtp.mac.com", and putting your confidential information at risk. Would you like to continue anyway?

  • "Mail cannot verify . . . . . ?"

Recently I have noticed that occasionally when I send an email, I get a warning message that Mail cannot verify the ISP, which seems strange as it is BT, which is the major UK provider.
Why am I suddenly getting these occasional messages and how can I prevent them from appearing in the first place?

  • I updated to mountain lion and now mail cannot connect to my server

I updated to mountain lion and now mail cannot connect to my server.  It says check your user name and password are correct.  Well they are, and were.  Nothing has changed except the mac OS.
Has anyone else suffered this and knows a way around it?  Too annoying to log into my mail every 15mins via a web page anymore.
Efforts tried to resolve this so far:
retyped user name and password, removed account and created a new account, restarted computer, software update, searched forums.  so far all have proved unsuccessful.
I have also written to my mail provider and am waiting for feed back from them, but if anyone has any advice it would be gratefully received.
    Many thanks,
    Mike

Many users upgrading to Mountain Lion have run into this problem, myself included.  You likely have corrupted settings for your  "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)" for each of the failed Accounts.  Open Mail>go to Mail's Preferences>Accounts>select an Account in the left column to work on>then set up your Outgoing Mail Server which will INCLUDE resetting up your Password, as its asking you to.  Click on "SMTP Outgoing Mail Server" near the bottom of the Accounts window while your mail account is highlighted in the left hand column.  When you click on SMTP... you will see a drop down box icon offered at the right side of the line.  Click it and then select at the bottom of the the list "Edit SMTP Mail Server".  Fill in the required settings for your ISP mail account using their recommended settings.

lost bottom banner when open "mail" cannot delete e-mails?

Close the mail app. Then double tap on the home button to bring up the multi-tasking bar. Swipe upwards on the mail app. Reset the phone. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. Once the phone reboots, try opening mail and see if this returns.

  • All sub-folders in Mac Mail cannot synchronize with Exchange Server 2010

    Hi all,
All sub-folders under Inbox in Mac Mail cannot be synchronized with Exchange Server 2010. There are 2GB messages size in Inbox folder and 500MB messages size under Inbox's sub-folders. All messages can be sent out and received and it can work in Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010 normally. However, all messages in sub-folders cannot be synchronized (empty sub-folders).
Does this problem relate to message synchronization order of Mac Mail with Exchange Server? Do all sub-folders messages be synchronized after synchronization complete of Inbox? The synchronization of sub-folders will not happen if the synchronization of Inbox does not complete, doesn't it?
All messages synchronization is over internet. Can anybody help?
    Thanks a lot

    Hi,
1.please check the mailbox send and receive quota for exchange 2013 migrated mailbox.
2.Please check the email attributes of the exchange 2013 migrated mailbox because it seems to be a problem with that particular mailbox.
3.Then do the message tracking and that would be the only way to find the where the send messages has gone.
4.Please check and confirm you have an enough space on the disk where exchange queue database is residing.
I think I need to create a receive connector in the 2013 to receive from 2010 ?
No need ,by design  exchange 2013 cas server default frontend receive connector will be having an
entire ipv4 and ipv6 segment and anonymous connection is checked by default.
I think I also need to create a send and receive connector for 2013 users to each other?
No need , an intra organisation send connector and the default receive connectors in exchange will be used
for internal mail flow between the exchange 2013 users.
Please reply me if you have any queries .

    S.Nithyanandham

  • Mail:Cannot read emails in server

No error messages. Doctor connects. I can send emails. I cannot get emails off server to apple mail. I can see (subject titles from Pop3 server) and delete emails from "account information". All this after account name change. 25 hours and no progress made. Please help. grayfish

What’s the problem exactly? Is it that Mail doesn’t check for mail on this account, or that it checks but downloads nothing, or what?
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list. Leave checked (enabled) only the port configuration needed to connect to Internet and Built-in Ethernet (in that order if not the same), uncheck (disable) the rest of network port configurations and see whether that helps — if it doesn’t, turn ON again the ones you want enabled.
Could it be that the account is in an “offline” state? Is the Mailbox > Go Online command enabled or disabled?
Open Window > Activity Viewer and tell Mail to check for mail on this account. What do you see Mail doing there?
Do the messages that Mail doesn’t download but show up in the Account Info window appear as already downloaded or as not downloaded yet (dot column)?
All this after account name change.
Not sure what you mean here. Could you please elaborate?

  • Mail cannot find outgoing mail server on imac

I have had a standard pop/smpt work email set up on my old laptop with windows XP for a while - all working fine. I recently bought an iMac and although on the same network iMail doesn't recognize the smpt outgoing server.. It doesn't even make it to choosing ports as it says the smpt server is not responding. If I continue I can receive mails, but not send...
I am quite illiterate when it comes to computers, so can someone please help me with this in simple terms?

At the risk of repeating what you already know, I'll try to describe how to declare an SMTP server. This advice assumes that you know what settings you need to use for your SMTP server.
In Mail, pull down the Mail menu and select "Preferences..." Click on "Accounts" at the top. In the left column click on the account that you're using. Be sure that the "Account Information" tab is active. At the bottom of the panel should be an item labeled "Outfoing Mail Server (SMTP):" You should see your SMTP server there. To check its settings, pull down the SMTP server list and select "Edit Server List..." In the resulting panel select your SMTP server. Click on the "Advanced" tab. Apply the settings needed for your SMTP server. Click on "OK", then close the "Preferences" window.

  • Mail cannot read data from server

    Hello!
I'm fairly new to Macs, having used a PC for 12 years, and am still getting used to it's little quirks.
    I now have a problem where one of my email servers (a POP account) makes Mail (and Thunderbird for that) come up with;
The attempt to read data from ** has failed
Now, I know that the log on info is OK, as using my Webmail account, on the same iMac, accesses the mail fine. I've emptied the relevant mail account, both locally and on the server, removed the local settings and reset them using info on various Mac help sites.
Nothing that I know of has changed, I've ran and re-ran the reset permissions tool.
Can anyone give me any help?
    Intel iMac 20" Duo 2ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Hello, and welcome to the Discussions.
Has this POP account ever worked in Mail? Is the POP3 server in question unique to this one account, or do you have other accounts from the same provider, using the same POP3 server as the Incoming Server?

  • Mac OX x 10.8: I can send e-mail; cannot receive e-mail. Connect Doctor lights are green.

I cannot receive e-mail on my new iMac with OS x 10.8 Can send; can retrieve from host server. Both connection doctor lights are green.

In my version of mail, the outgoing settings are a bit hidden.  You have to click on the Server Settings... at the bottom of the screen.
I hid my user settings by dragging another window over them.  The button is just below the hidden stuff.  I forget what 10.1 looked like.
You could try Thurderbird.  I use it.  I am not sure what version you need.  I used 0.7 with Mac OS 10.2.  I'd try the last  version of 1.x as your first quess.  These are in a little harder format to sort out.

  • How do I resolve the iPad error message" cannot verify identity of server"

I have an iPad 2 model A1395 running iOS 7.2.1
When browsing in Safari I continually get the message:
Cannot verify server Identity Would you like to continue anyway?  with the options:  cancel, details, or continue
If I select continue, I can go on to the site.  I've read that many others have this issue and eventually the iPad freezes on this error message.
I selected "details" on one particular website (this happens on multiple websites, not just this one) and got the following information:
    details
    www. google.com
    Equifax Secure Certificate Authority
    Not Trusted
I have searched and seen that this issue has been reported multiple times as far back as 2010, but each time the reply indicates that it is something about the specific website reported, however this happens on many different websites.  Can someone please address the problem with iPAD rather than one specific site?

Verify that your time and date settings are correct. I have had this issue before where I had to temporarily change the date for something, and forgot to change it back. Also, my friend had this issue and was wondering why YouTube, Instagram, Vine, and anything on the internet simply wouldn't work. Turned out his date was very off, and I switched it back and it resolved the issue. Does it do this for some sites and not others? As far as I am concerned, this happened on ALL websites when the date was wrong on both my iPad, and my friends iPad.
If that still doesn't help, try connecting to the sites with this issue using different WiFi connections.
If THAT doesn't work, go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings
Lastly, if all else fails, restore the iPad to factory settings, and try then. After that, I am not sure what you could do.

  • Mail cannot access the mail server, but other email clients do.

My web host recently had extended problems with the mail server my sites are on. Now, Mail on my iMac Intel 27 Duo says it cannot access the server. However, Thunderbird and Entourage Mac have no problem. Sending from Mac Mail seems to be Ok as well. I've checked the settings over and over.  I received no system disk for this machine when I bought it. Do I need to reinstall Mail, and if so, how?
The info below from Connection Doctor shows it appears to be trying to access through Port 25 but I have Mail set for 587 as instructed by the hosting company. I have renamed private info in the text below.

Well if TB and Entourage can both send and receive but Mail can only send I can only conclude you missed something in you rechecking.  Of course with you being the only one checking you are going to make the same "mistake" and never no it.  So post the relevant POP server info for your ISP (edit out personal info and passwords of course):
    Account Info:
Incoming Mail server:  pop server address
User Name:             required user name POP server is looking for (censor)
Password:              password required by POP server (censor)
    Advanced:
    Port:      995, 25, default?
    Use SSL:   yes or no
    Auth:      kind of authentication

  • (UK) BT Yahoo email - attempting IMAP - mail cannot verify

Hi all - hoping you can help.
I have email with BT Yahoo and it IMAPs fine between iPad, iPhone and browser but not with the Mac OS email client.
I nosed around on google and found this -
    type: IMAP
    incoming server: imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com
user name: full email adress (i.e [email protected])
Imap path prefix: (i.e no prefix)
    port: 993
    ssl: on
    outgoing mail server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=325139
At last IMAP with BTYahoo - but it's now telling me that
'mail can't verify the identity of "imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com' and that it could put my confidential information at risk.
Any ideas - should I continue with this? I would love BTYahoo IMAP (it's my main account) but have no desire to be my e-security at risk.
    Any advice - much appreciated,
    Darren - Lockerbie - Scotland

I pay something like £1.52 a month for this email - I have no idea why...
something to do with when I moved house, closed down my btbroadband etc
    but this appears to work!
    thanks!

  • Cannot verify Apple Mail with IPAD

I am trying to set up my business email for my Ipad using Apple Mail, In MobileMe it asks me to enter in my information email address and such to get Mail on my Ipad. Ipad then asks me to verify and go to my email and make sure I have an email in my Mail inbox from my Ipad. I never get this email, I have tried over and over to send and verify my email address for Apple Mail for my work/business email. What am I supposed to do? By the way, my work/business email does not run on Wi-Fi only on a hard-wired Ethernet (my whole building does). But I figured email is still email, you should be able to access it over the internet if you have the same program and same settings/ and configurations right? We use Mac at the office and I have Mac at home, but I still cant even access my email using Mail at home either on my Mac or Ipad. Yes, I have looked at the settings and configurations to see if something is correct. So, Please help me!

BT are always unable to help. Search the forum and you will find hundreds of examples of BT being 'unable' to help.
Get a better email provider, BT are dreadful at it.
