Mail causing freezing problems on MacBook

Hi all - lately, I have been having speed issues on my MacBook. Tried using Disk Utility, but still had issues. Finally, just reformatted my hard drive, then imported all my stuff through Time Machine. Everything looked great, performance and speed back to near perfect. However, the next day I opened mail and it slowed everything back up again. I am constantly getting the spinning color ball even when going to a simple website. When I shut Mail down, it takes forever to close and sometimes I have to do a Force Quit. Any suggestions??

Stop peeing and contact your ISP for their Outgoing Mail Server requirements along with the correct port to use.

  • Deleting mail causes freeze

Hi. Love the iPhone. A few bugs, i.e.:
Somehow, over 2,000 mail messages uploaded from my .mac mail. Probably messages left on the server. I have changed my preferences.
Still, it is more than tedious to delete. After 10-20 deletions, the iPhone hangs. It looks like some of the deleted messages come back.
Any help? I'm trying to knock of 10 messages a few times a day, but at this rate...
I do have one other mail account, but it didn't load up old messages.
    Thanks for your ideas/help!

  • Major freezing problem on Macbook Pro 1,1

    Hello everyone,
My MacBook Pro has been experiencing some strange behaviour lately. I'll be doing any average computing task (nothing more than word processing or Internet browsing), and the current application will lock up. Any application I touch after that will lock up until the entire system is unresponsive, including dock and Finder. It is not responsive to the force quit menu command or any other stimulus.
If I remove the battery while the AC is plugged in, or lift the notebook up to get better air supply, this usually unfreezes things, making me think this is a temperature problem—but I can't be sure.
I have reset PRAM and SMC, run TechTool diagnostics, repaired permissions and verified disk, with no change. I have also entirely restored to backup through Time Machine to a week before the problems started, with no change.
    Does anyone have a suggestion?

Have you tried creating a new user account? If the freezing goes away, it would indicate a problem with your usual account.
How full is your hard drive? Do you have at least 15% free space on it?
You might want to check out the physical health of your hard drive with this utility:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/32454
You can download the demo and run it several times for free.
If your hard drive checks out OK, you may want to try reinstalling the OS. Be sure you have a good backup before you do.
    Good luck!

  • Signing up for iCloud has caused freezing problems with my email.  Can I delete my iCloud account?

iPhone 5, activated iCloud. Now my email is frozen. What should I do? Delete iCloud? accessing Settings "verification failed there was an error connecting to iCloud

You cannot delete the iCloud account that is signed on to Find My iPhone unless you know the password. This is called the Activation Lock:
    ACTIVATION LOCK
It is an anti-theft security measure that is a part of iOS 7. You can only get around this by following the steps in this support article:

Slow performance after installing Yosemite on an older Mac is often caused by inadequate memory. Although you can install the upgrade on a Mac with 2 GB of memory, experience has shown that at least 4 GB is needed for full performance.
Select About This Mac from the Apple menu. If you have less than 4 GB of memory, and your model has upgradable memory, install as much as it can take, or at least that much. Any reputable RAM vendor will have a web form in which you can select the Mac model and be directed to compatible parts.
Memory in the MacBook Air is not upgradable. If that's what you have, you should restore the previous system from a backup, or replace the machine. Ask if you need guidance.
The Etrecheck report clearly shows that SylvieRose has a Macbook Pro, not a Macbook Air and that there are only 2 GB  RAM installed.  The Etrecheck report can be very informative if one takes the time to examine it.

    Problem:
Over the last few months I've had constant problems with freezing, shut downs. This might be in the form of I'll be working in iMovie editing some video and then mouse down into the corner to switch Spaces, the screen will half zoom out then just hang. Mouse won't respond, everything just sits there. I usually have to fix this by holding down the power button until the MBP turns off, then just reboot.
Other times I'll leave the computer on at night, wake up in the morning and it will either be off and as such, I just have to press the power button and it boots up again. Or the screen will be off, metal above the Function keys will be cooking, but the computer isn't responding, just a blank screen. I hold down the power button until it turns off and then reboot again.
These problems were getting worse. It has gotten to the stage where it might freeze a couple of times a day.
Seems the problem only occurs when the MBP is working. I might leave it rendering at night and wake in the morning to find it off etc.
Will also sometimes get horizontial lines in apps. I shut them down and start them up again and it's fine. But it's like the graphics card is struggling big time.
    Actions to Fix:
    - Started with repairing the permissions, but I always found that it had lots of items to repair, would repair then, but then if I verified again, the same things would come up as needing to be repaired. I also tried booting from the OS X DVD and repairing from that version of Disk Utility, but same result.
    - Created new admin user account, to see if problem was just limited to my account. Same problem.
    - Ran AHT from the MBP DVD that came with the MBP and it passed the hardware test. Though I couldn't find anywhere to make it run an extended test. The test I could run would only take about 10 minutes I believe.
    - Erased the HD and fresh install of 10.6.3 from DVD, then software updates  to 10.6.7 (yesterday). Repaired permissions after each step. After the OS upgrade I got a decent list of items that needed to be repaired, and after repair, would still show as needing repair. I checked the KB and it listed a lot of files that might get this error, but that it was ok to ignore them.
    - Was editing video this morning in iMovie again, running Disk Utility on an external drive and boom, the MBP locked up again
I've gone through the /logs/crashlog in both the root and home user folders. After nearly all crashes these are empty, so it's not even reporting it anywhere.
Can anyone shed any light on whhat might be causing the problem?
    <Serial Number Edited by Host>

Actually, when I was at the Apple Store I had both laptops flat, with the screens at 90 degrees. Pushing the screen forward and back with my fingers (via the top of the screen of course), the 15" easily has twice the hinge resistance. With that kind of test, weight isn't a significant factor -- that 17" hinge on a 15" laptop would probably cause the screen to come crashing down, too.
There were a few people in these forums who said their 17" was actually too tight (wish I had that problem!). It seems like a quality/consistency problem that could easily be fixed by A) measuring the force required to move the screen back and forth before screwing the case together, and B) making the hinge tension adjustable.

  • MacBook Pro frequent freezes problem

    Hi everyone,
My MacBook Pro frequently freezes despite very light use. I took it to a "genius" today, but he was not very helpful. Actually, it froze again right at the apple store while they were checking it. The log showed some errors from Quicksilver right before the freeze and they suggested disabling Quicksilver for a while. At the same time they said that Quicksilver is "solid" and should not cause any serious problems. They also recommending deleting flash plugins, but admitted that it was unlikely that a flash plugin was causing freezes.
Nothing came up during hardware tests, and I already did a clean reinstall of the OS (twice).
I would appreciate any suggestions. The Macbook Pro is 6 months old, 17in, 2.66 Ghz Core i7 with 8 GB of RAM. There is 300+ GB of free space on the hard disk.
    Thanks

I had similar issues. I formatted, did a clean install, and ran software update to make sure everything was up to date. Then I logged in for the first time, ran handbreak and 6 vlc windows and it froze within 10 minutes. This is most likely not caused by Quicksliver or any other software. You should register your complaints in this thread to keep them all together:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2768351&tstart=0
Then you should call apple care to register your complaint. I've scheduled a call for tomorrow.

  • Macbook Late 2011 freezing, problem with CPU power management.

    Hi everyone.
I have Macbook Pro 15 Late 2011. And i have a problem with it.
When laptop is cold, sometimes, it can freeze. Other then this there's no problems with it, no problems at all.
I solved this problem by deleting AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext, so for now it's getting a little hotter (not very).
And my question: is there any utility or app, which could let me see what AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext is doing with system, so i could see what causing freezes. I don't have apple services in my country, so i can't bring this laptop to repair.
And if you don't know answer to this question, but know forum, where i might find answers, please write it.
    Thanks in advance.
Sorry for language, i'm not an english speaking.

Catfish, if you're on AC power, and you don't run with a fully charged battery in the machine, then it won't run at full performance. Plus, if the battery is worn out, then it won't charge to nearly its original full capacity, and thus the machine won't run at full performance on AC power.
Note that, if you leave the battery in a drawer for months without using it, that can kill the battery.
    Good luck!

  • When Firefox freezes, how can I shut it down, and re-start it without it automatically going to the site which caused the problem in the first place ?

I have Firefox set so that when I start up, I have it set so that it automatically goes to my home page. However when it freezes, which it does on a daily basis, and I have to shut it down and re-start, it automatically goes to the site which caused the problem in the first place.
If I was a hacker, I would probably find it quite fun to design a virus to reintroduce bugs after they had been exterminated - except that Firefox seem to have got there first.

    Here's how:
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''sess''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the '''browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes''' preference and enter 0 (that's a zero) and click OK.
When Firefox resumes after a crash, instead of resuming automatically, it will display a list of your previous windows and tabs and you can deselect problem pages.
(This assumes it wasn't a private browsing session.)

  • Will 16Gb RAM on a Early 2011 2.7 Ghz i7 Macbook 13" cause any problem? Also i plan to upgrade to Mountain Lion, will it work?

I want to upgrade my machine with 16 GB RAM, it already has a G.Skill single RAM chip of 8gb. need help with the following. Will upgrading to 16Gb RAM on a Early 2011 2.7 Ghz i7 Macbook 13" cause any problem? Also i plan to upgrade to Mountain Lion, will it work?

It won't cause you any issues or problems....
it is however, suggested you install the same brand RAM that are of the same specs....
    1333MHz........
Installing different brands with different CL speed might cause issues....
so if you already have a G.Skill RAM installed, then install the same brand.

  • Bridge CS6 cache problem causes freeze

MacPro early 2008, 10 mb RAM, Apple OSX 10.7.3, CS5 already installed.
CS6 Beta was working fine until today.
Now when I open Bridge CS6 I get "Bridge encountered a problem and is unable to read the cache. Please try purging the central cache in Cache Preferences to correct the situation."  I then try to purge the cache, but nothing happens and Bridge freezes.
Worse, I cannot use my keyboard at all or perform any mouse click actions if Bridge is the active window.  I cannot close Bridge.  What I can do is alt/tab to another window, and then Force Close Bridge.
I have tried restarting the MacPro but this does not solve the problem.
The problem started earlier today after I re-edited a nef which I had previously edited in ACR 6.  I cancelled all the previous edits first.
Also, yesterday I installed Little Snitch, which I have now uninstalled.
There are no CrashReporter logs for the freezing problem.

How is your disk free space?   When I loaded Bridge CS6 the default option was for 100% preview.  That takes a lot of time and space to build.  Can occupy gigs of space.
I reset thumbnails to embedded.  Much smaller and faster and for me works just fine.

  • Very very odd repetitive freezing problem.

    Hi all,
I have a January 2008 MacBook, with user-installed maximum RAM and 500GB drive. Just recently I have started to have the "machine hangs for 2 minutes and then works albeit in an unpredictable way for one minute and then repeats this cycle" problem.
I would say nine in ten boots of either my normal user or the root user results in random and painful sluggishness (often from the login prompt, which beachballs for a couple of minutes) and one in ten is ok for a few minutes.
Right now the only way this machine is usable is using the Safe boot option, holding down the shift key on boot.
I'm a geek and I've done pretty much everything I can think of to fix this problem short of a reinstall.
    * top does not report unusual CPU usage. Even during freezes it reports less than 10% CPU in use. I conclude that the CPU chewing is therefore in the kernel.
    * I've booted in normal and kextstat and booted in safe and kextstat and diffed the two and honestly removed any non-Apple stuff in my normal boot.
    * I've removed ALL startup items, especially from root.
    * Following advice on here I've removed ALL my Internet Plug-Ins.
    * I've seen weird "kernel[0]:" blank syslog messages, which is surely a bug somewhere.
    * I've repeatedly fixed permissions and checked the disk.
Booting normally as root or as my normal user sees this problem occur. Booting safe does not. I really am getting to the end of my tether with this. I don't hack the BSD kernel and don't know where my CPU is going where the usual userland tools cannot see.
My next step is to boot normal, ps wwaux, then boot safe and ps wwaux and analyse the two. I am struggling with where to go here.
The symptoms of this problem are exactly what I'd imagine you see if a hard drive is dying. When one process is in diskwait then everything else beachballs while the bus is locked for thirty seconds. Disk Utility, and Techtool do not report any problems.
It's probably worth mentioning that I am still having problems with the Airport drivers in this machine (from a vanilla install of SL, this machine STILL sometimes insists it cannot see some Wifi networks that everything else can). I am still seeing these symptoms whilst trying to diagnose the other problem, which makes things even more tricky. I can sometimes get the airport hardware to "see" my wifi network (that all three of my iPhones can see, along with both my PC laptops) by turning Airport off and on and removing and adding new locations.
I had the somewhat heretic thought today that the frustrating problems I've had with this, my third Apple Laptop, are infinitely worse than I've ever had with any - ahem - PC laptops I've owned, but maybe that's a matter of expectation management. When Apple control the vertical and the horizontal I don't expect them to ship machines which don't connect to Wifi, like this and my girlfriend's MacBook don't, and I don't expect to have a machine which spends 2 of every 3 minutes in deep sleep.
    Neil.

Ok, so I removed all my /Library/Preferences/ and rebooted, assuming that since this problem manifests *at the login window*, something root is doing at boot is causing a problem. So now all root boot stuff is running at defaults.
No change. In fact I spent so much time waiting for the login window to log me in, I powered off and rebooted safe again.
So I am still in this position:
Logging in in NOT safe mode results in a completely unusable computer, usually before I even log in. Save for brief respites, probably about 1 minute in ten (now I've spent more time staring at this), the machine is completely unresponsive.
Logging in in safe mode results in a completely working machine, albeit with the disadvantages of safe mode (no DVD, no network shares).
Analysis of a $ps wwaux generated by logging in as root, opening a terminal window and typing ps wwaux > file gives these results:
