Mail checking for messages FOREVER .... (New iPad)

After upgrading to IOS 6, my mailbox is not receiving any messages.  All I get is the msg saying "checking for mail" and the spinning wheel goes on forever. After it stopped spinning, no emails came in (via my hotmail account) although I can see some if I sign into hotmail via the Internet.
I have re-set my Internet settings and restarted my iPad, nothing has changed.  Anyone got any ideas?
Much appreciated, JayKay.

In addition to my question, I have tried deleting my hotmail account and then have re-added it.  New msg now says "cannot connect to server".  Is it me?

  • Mac Mail: Check for new messages doesn't work

    Hi,
In Mac Mail the setting at  "Preferences -> Check For New Messages" I have set for manual and yet Mail still fetches emails when I haven't asked it too. I previously had this setting set to check for messages every hour but it ignored that setting too so I set it to manual but this setting is ignored. Ideally I'd like to check mail every four hours but there isn't a setting for that.
I'm running Lion and have IMAP email accounts.
Any idea how I can get Mac Mail not to ignore my Check For New Messages setting?
    Thanks!

Thanks for the link. Well I never would have found that out without some help. I saw the IDLE in the IMAP settings I didn't know it was a kind of PUSH / FETCH thing. Anyway I've got it on manual now and only seems to get emails when I send one or press the button. I've only changed it a little while ago so I hope this is actually fixed.
Thanks again it was driving me nuts!

  • Why does Mail 'check for new messages' despite it being set to 'manual'?

I want to only receive new email either once per hour or better still manually (once or twice during the day at a time chosen by me). That way I won't be bombarded with emails all day and can get on with my work.
So, I set the 'check for new messages' to 'manually'.
Nevertheless I get email coming in frequently. Possibly every time I send an email, it also checks for new incoming mail (I'm not sure but that's my hunch).
How can I stop Mail from pulling in my new incoming email?
Any answers to this? If I can't figure this out or it's not possible in Apple Mail, it might be time to switch (but I don't want to!)
    Thanks in advance
    Dan

    Thanks Linc, works great.
There should be a hint for this in Mail's preferences, underneath the 'check for messages' option

  • My iPhone is not receiving mail but these messages continue to flash at the bottom of the screen:  Checking for messages, Updated just now, checking for messages, etc.  After a minute or so it will flash downloading 1 - 32 messages but nothing is received

My iPhone is not receiving mail but the following messages continue to flash over and over at the bottom of the screen:  "Checking for messages, Updated just now, Checking for messages", etc.  After a minute or so it will flash downloading 1 - 32 messages but nothing is received and then the "Checking for Messages," etc. starts back again.   I turned the phone off for 30+ minutes and also tried to reset it, but the problem continues.   Any ideas on how to solve the problem?

Double click the home button and swipe up the messages app to stop it, then open the app again. This pretty much completely stops the process and freshly opens it again, resolving problems at times. I have had this happen before as well on my iPad, I get a banner, check messages, and nothing new is there.
If that doesn't work, close the app like suggested above, but then restart the phone by holding down the home and lock button for 10-15 seconds until the apple logo appears.

I don't understand the question.  If you are a developer, ask the question again using the support tools for developers.  If you are not a developer, any answers will need to wait until iOS7 is released this fall.

  • How do they charge you for messaging on an iPad.

How or do they charge for messaging on an iPad?  Do I need to add it to my phone plan or exactly how does it work?

If it's through your cellular service, then it's part of your cell service plan. If you're referring to the use of the Message app on the iPad, there's no charge other than what you pay for internet access as part of your cell provider's data plan. If you connect via free WiFi then there's no charge.

A deal is only a good deal if you get the best value out of the deal.
If you need a MacBook more than an iPad or an iPad more than a MacBook, then it's a good deal.
Comes down to what value the use of the product is to you.

In what way is it related?  Last time i looked 'obsolate' and 'defunct' had distinctly different meanings.

  • OSX 10.10 Mail, check for new mail at system startup?

When I start the mail app, it will check for new messages.  But can the mail app be set to automatically check for new mail at system startup?  I typically do not "re open apps when logging back in".
    THANKS

Leave Mail running and set it to check every minute. AFAIK, there's no way to check otherwise.

  • Make Mail check for Mail every minute?

I recently got an iPhone 3G to replace my original iPhone, on my original I had the setting for mail to check for mail every minute, now mine is set on manual, but I can't find the setting to change it. Someone please help me, thank you.

Push. That is what push is. It means that changes are sent as they happen.
"Email accounts that use the push method for message retrieval enable you to have email messages delivered directly to you as soon as the message is received by your email provider instead of checking periodically or manually for new messages. On iPhone or iPod touch, push email is supported for the following email account types:
    MobileMe
    Microsoft Exchange
    Yahoo!
Other email accounts such as POP, IMAP, AOL or Gmail accounts do not support push message retrieval on iPhone or iPod touch but can instead be setup to fetch mail at specified intervals or manually when the Mail application is opened."
