Mail client and iCloud issues

Anyone else having this problem where the Mail client on you Mac will not accept you new iClould account when you try to add you new iCloud account through the Mail preferences? I am running Snow Leopard.

I have similar symptoms.
The iCloud pane in System Preferences says "Starting..." and never finished.
Adding an account in OS X Mail prompts me for the Incoming Mail Server, even though it recognizes it as an iCloud account. Leaving leaving the field empty results in Mail unable to connect to the server.
Clicking on Mail in the iCloud web interface tells me I need to create an @me.com email address by enabling Mail in the iCloud System Preference.
I am using an existing MobileMe account (previously a .Mac account) which is my AppleID.

  • Forms 6i, open default mail client and add attachment to message

    Hi,
I would like to use some functionality in my forms application. I want call some action, that opens default mail client in windows platform and add some attachment to message. I want to do this for my reports. I am exporting reports to PDF files. I am using oracle forms / reports 6.0.8.12.1 version. And I cant use build-in PDF export functionality, because exported PDF files are in old PDF version and I have problem with Czech charakters. So I am using my own virtual PDF printer for printing reports. A now I would like to send report as mail attachment. I know that there is this functionality in report preview. When I click button with letter image (showed on screenshot at http://img20.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=00067_screen_122_899lo.JPG) the default mail client is opened in this is created new messages with report (eps) in attachment.
That is what i need. Only open default mail client and add own attachment to message.
I found only one solution for Outlook, but I need open default mail client (for example Mozilla Thunderbird etc.)

  • Pages and iCloud issues

So far I have found the following issues using Pages and iCloud both on iPad and iMac.
    1. I migrated 2 mobileme accounts to iCloud. The pages option to use iCloud would not stay on. This could only beresolved by deleting one of the mail accounts.
    2. Pages froze after editing a document and closing it when there was no internet connection. I had to reboot the iPad.
    3. The user interface for Folders on the iPad and in iCloud>iWork on iMac is extermely poor. On the iPad there is no way of organising documents in a folder or displaying them other than as thumbnails. On the iMac it is not possible to create folders, organise the contents of those created on iPad, or display other than thumbnails.
If this is Apple's attempt to lure people to Cloud computing then it is not a good start. They should have ported iDisk. I will go back to DropBox.

Though no one replied to this topic, I'm updating with what I've learned after spending many hours on the phone with an Apple tech rep who had esacalated to engineers.  There is NO solution.  Docs that are out of sync or unretrievable from iCloud or iCloud Drive, they cannot assist with.  They offered to wipe my iCloud Drive account and reset it, but I wanted them to restore it afterwards.  Just a simple, pull the data off, dump it on an FTP server so I can access it. Nope.  No assistance.  Not their problem.  I have to manually pull ALL the files off my iPad's iCloud account, the ones I can get to and go through this insane 6 step process to get to those docs.  Really disappointed with Apple.  Using MS Word on the iPad and though not perfect...at least the Pages docs won't be lost.

  • Yahoo! Mail glitches with Lion mail client and Address Book app

I had really been looking forward to using my Yahoo! mail account in the Lion mail client but now that it is here and I have set it up and used it for a few days I am noticing the following issues:
New mail is not always received or is received late. Yahoo! Webmail portal shows new items but these sometimes do not appear in Lion mail client even after a manual 'get mail' check.
Mail marked as read in Yahoo! Webmail portal or in mail clients in iOS devices such as iPhone or iPad is not marked as read in Lion mail client, however the reverse does work (i.e. mail marked as read in Lion mail client does mark the message as read in webmail and in clients on iOS devices).
Yahoo! Aliases are not supported. Yes, you can add aliases by inserting the other email addresses in the 'Email Address' field of the account settings, but you cannot add more than one display name.
I have also found that if you turn on Yahoo! contacts via the tick-box in the new 'Mail, Contacts & Calendars' pref pane in System Preferences that I end up with random duplicated contacts. These duplicates are not seen on iOS devices, just in the Address Book app. If you delete a duplicate contact, it deletes the contact altogether. However, I have found that if you keep contacts unticked in the pref pane and add your Yahoo! account the old-fashioned way (i.e. via the Address Book app's own preferences) then the contacts sync through perfectly with no duplications.
I would be interested to know if anybody else is experiencing these issues. It may be worth noting that mine is not a @yahoo.com address but @xtra.co.nz which belongs to my ISP here in New Zealand, but the mail is managed by Yahoo!. The account works perfectly as a Yahoo! account on iOS devices and does appear to be working in Lion, except for these small glitches but I don't imagine these are specific to @xtra.co.nz addresses.
    Thanks
    Steve

i've had the same experience here.
essentially it seems like lion mail.app just takes an incredibly long time to pickup new changes from the IMAP server at yahoo.
ios and webmail are obviously much quicker.
if it is working on ios, why does is it so delayed in mail?
    any solutions out there?

  • Mail client and OSX 10.6.8

Does ICloud migration also require the upgrade of the OS to leopard, on order to continue using the mail client on the MacBook?
    Thanks, in advance.

To use iCloud's synchronization features, you must upgrade to Lion, not Leopard.
Mail.app in Snow Leopard will continue to function as usual. If you have a MobileMe email account (me.com or mac.com), you need to register for an iCloud account and manually reset Mail to use the iCloud servers instead of MobileMe. You won't be able to use iCloud's other features, but email will work just fine.
Non-MobileMe email accounts are not affected in any way.

  • BT Yahoo, e-mail client and phone

On 16 November I was unable to access my BT Yahoo e-mail account. I usually access through Thunderbird or my Android phone.  Reasons unclear but I had had no problems since March when something similar (but transient) happened.  Password was reset and since then I can access BT Yahoo webmail.  BUT I have been unable to reestablish neither my desk top computer  e-mail client (POP3) nor my phone (IMAP).  Ditto for my wife's sub-account and I-phone. Accounts have been deleted and recreated; settings checked and rechecked; and passwords changed. On my last call to BT I was told that the problem had to be my end if I could access webmail. I might accept that argument if the problem was on a single platform but as I cannot connect to the server across multiple devices (and it was working perfectly before) I am yet to be convinced.  In the last few days on occasion after several retries my e-mail client or my phone will connect but it is very flaky. Sometimes a webmail password change helps but fails the next time a connection is attempted. Colleagues suggested a cache problem and I have made sure these are cleared - no obvious improvement.  Meantime I have had to set up a forward instruction for my wife and myself to our gmail accounts to establish any sort of service.  In my last contact with BT (apart from being told that IMAP was only for Apple!) it was suggested I called in a local technician - frankly I don't know what to ask.  For some reason I am not able to connect and I would be most appreciative of suggestions re a way ahead.  BT have failed to respond to an e-mail and have not called back at a pre-arranged time (over and above the other calls) so I am pretty fed-up as you may have guessed if you have read this far!

BT Yahoo has had loads of issues over the recent week(s), see fixed messages above. My android phone and my pop 3 client has had log on problems off and on, but it seems to be getting better. Over this time BT Yahoo webmail was working as probably on a different platform their end. I found the following like good for checking outages, its Yahoo mail but if you are on BT Yahoo I have found it accurate.

  • IPhone syncing restoring issues between 4S and 5 and iCloud issues between send & receive addresses

First question: I just bought the iPhone 5 and I am trying to sync/restore all of my information (docs, data, photos) from 4S to the 5 via iTunes and iCloud but it will not let me do it. So how can sync all of my contacts, photos and documents (especially important text messages) from the 4S to 5?
Second question: I also want to know how can I stop sending and receiving messages from BOTH phones! I have two different companies and two different phone numbers but both phones share the SAME iCloud account? Should I have created a new one when I first activated the 5?
Please help I've only been an iPhone and iTunes user since November 2012 and I don't know what I am doing!!

Apparently you must be very narrow minded. I don't want to develop an e-mail client from the scratch.
I would implement the sync the following way.
Assuming I use POP3 on both my iPhone and my MacBook. On my iPhone mail client I am downloading e-mails and reading them from time to time and replying. There is an ended set of what you actions you can do with your e-mails. Every e-mail has a unique ID / fingerprint - you can recognize it with 100% accuracy. I'm also downloading e-mails on my MacBook mac mail and performe the same ended set of actions on this e-mails. So the system architecture should be as follows:
    1. MacBook mail client queues all the actions I have performed with my e-mails on my MacBook.
    2. iPhone mail client does the same - creates a queues with actions I have performed on my iPhone.
    3. If I have the syncing turned on on both of my devices and I'm logged in on both of them with the same Apple ID both devices process the queues to my iCloud, compare it and update status of my e-mails according to the actions in each queue.
So I will rather wait until Apple will do this simple solution.

  • Itunes email address and iCloud issues

    Good afternoon all,
When I initially created an Apple account back in 2004 I signed up for a then .mac email address and now use that same .mac address with all of my iCloud services. Not thinking I created an AppleID to use with iTunes using a personal email address (something similar to [email protected] for example).
The dilemma that I have is that I have to use the [email protected] email address to sign into my iTunes account to purchase anything from the iTunes store and to view all of my past purchases from 2004 to present; yet all of my iCloud services (keychain, photos, etc...) are setup using my .mac email address.
When I log into my [email protected] AppleID (the account that has all of my iTunes purchases) I try to change the email address to my .mac address and it will not allow me bc it says it is an apple owned domain.
Is there any way possible for me to merge these two accounts so that I can have one singular email sign in for all of my iTunes and iCloud services?
    Thanks
    -Kris

    That account expired
Can I keep my MobileMe email address once I move to iCloud?
Only if you have an active MobileMe account when you sign up for iCloud, you can keep your me.com or mac.comemail address and any email aliases you have created and move your MobileMe mail, contacts, and calendars, as well as your bookmarks, to the new service. When you're ready to make the move, go to www.me.com/move.

  • Setting up a mail client and the outgoing SMTP set...

If you switch to BT and you already have email accounts set up in a mail client such as Mac Mail, you will not find any help from BT to set up correct outgoing SMTP mail server settings. Most other ISP's are usually very helpful with this but BT have a policy that is designed to make things very difficult to use anything but a BT email account. They claim that it is "To protect our email server from abuse by spammers". However, the solution to this has potentially quite the opposite effect as you will not be able to enable SSL for it to work!!
OK so the first thing to do is create a new 'MY BT' account and then go to 'email' and create a new BT email account. Keep a note of address and password as you will need this later.
Go back to the main BT home page and click on mail. You should land on a page that has the new 'BT Mail Account' in the left column and above a purple tool bar with 'Settings at the end. Click on 'Settings'.
In the left column, underneath 'Mail' click on 'Accounts'
Click 'Add' and fill in the details of your 3rd party (Non BT) account. They encourage IMAP only but I used 'POP" with no problems as I have no intention of using the BT mail client.
In 'Mail settings' fill out the mail server details from your email provider or where your site is actually hosted. For example if you are using 000webhost.com then they will advise 'mx.000webhost.com' or may be 'mail.yourwebsitename'
The correct port to enter is the port listed in your web client. For me with Mac Mail then this is listed in preferences and if you check this then also double check that use SSL is NOT checked
Enter the email user name and password of your 3rd party account
Make sure in 'Security' that 'Requires SSL' is NOT checked
    Then save the account
Click on the 'Email' link in the purple tool bar and there now under the 'BT Mail Account' should be your 3rd party account. Click on it and it should now load your email. If it doesn't then you will have to try again the steps above as there is no point in going any further if the BT client cannot access your account.
OK if it is working then go to your email client (Mac Mail in my case) and in preference set up your 3rd party account as follows.
Incoming mail server is as the info from your host ( like as in 'mx.000webhost.com' above). Enter user name and password for the 3rd party account.
Now set up an Outgoing mail server (SMPT). I just called it BT with the server name 'mail.btinternet.com'. In the advance section click use default ports. It actually uses 465 if you do not have a default option.
    Do NOT enable SSL
    Set Authentication to 'Password'
Then in user name enter the details of the NEW BT account you opened for user name and password.
And that's it. Well it works for me! I got no assistance whatsoever from BT in trying to solve this. I asked to cancel my new BT infinity service after only 5 days when it proved so difficult to get an email client like mac mail to work. I had 4 calls from them and even the 'Tech Experts' had no idea what I was talking to them about!

    Melski wrote:
Ah yes Thank you Oliver that is a better solution. However all the settings in the BT client have to remain as no SSL. If you change to use SSL there you will not be able access the 3rd party email account.
Your email client cannot handle SSL for SMTP (BT) and non-SSL for POP3 (000webhost)?
    Oliver.

  • Sup mail client and html mail - run-mailcap script now in aur

    Hi,
For the users of sup mail client. Standard sup installation requires a script called run-mailcap to open html (and other mime) attachments. I couldn't find this script in any arch repos so I made a package for aur. This package downloads a deb file from ubuntu repositories and extracts just this one script (run-mailcap). This should make life a bit easier for early sup users.
Unfortunately the package requires deb2targz since I don't know how to extract just one file from a deb without this script. If this can be done in a better way, please let me know. For now deb2targz is just a makedep, you can remove it after installation.
    Enjoy

For future reference, bsdtar can break open .deb files (and .rpm files for that matter) and bsdtar will be found on every Arch system since it is part of the libarchive package and pacman itself depends on libarchive. I use bsdtar in this way in the opera-devel PKGBUILD. I added libarchive to my makedepends, though arguably this isn't really needed unless pacman is likely to stop depending on libarchive any time soon.
With this in mind I do wonder why people install tools like deb2targz or rpm2cpio on Arch when it is already possible to pull apart these files with a pre-installed tool. Perhaps people are just unaware of this?
P.S. Even without bsdtar, .deb files are just 'ar' archives with three files inside: debian-binary (which states the deb format version number), control.tar.gz (packaging meta-information) and data.tar (the actual installable files, optionally compressed with gzip, bzip2 or lzma). As such you can alternatively use the 'ar' command to extract data.tar and then get the raw files by extracting from that with (GNU) tar in turn. It is worth noting that 'ar' is included as part of the GNU binutils package, so pretty much guaranteed to be present on any system that is used for repackaging.

  • Mail quota and server issue

I keep getting one of two messages all of a sudden.
    Connection Failed
There maybe a problem with the mail server or network. Check the settings for account "*%[email protected]" or try again.
The server error encountered was: The connection to the server "mail.mac.com" on port 993 timed out.
Or I get a message saying that I am at 99% of mail quota. What do either of these mean?

I was aware that you have a .Mac account based on the information you provided in your original post.
My question was/is, how are you accessing your .Mac account with the Mail application on your Mac - the account type - .Mac, IMAP or POP?
The default account type for a .Mac account with the Mail application is a .Mac type account which is really an IMAP account and behaves in the same way.
You can access a .Mac account as a .Mac type, IMAP or POP account with the Mail application and as an IMAP or POP account with another email client such as the Mail application on your Mac or on a Windows PC.
Very few (no others that I'm aware of) email account providers include/support such a choice of account types. The majority support a single account type - IMAP or POP with POP being the most common.
With a POP account, you have the option to remove messages from the server when downloaded by an email client such as the Mail application. There is no such option when accessing an IMAP account with an email client such as Mail. A .Mac type account or IMAP account received messages remain on the server until deleted from the account's Inbox mailbox or moved from the account's Inbox mailbox to a mailbox stored locally on your hard drive. Transferring a message from a server stored mailbox to a user created "On My Mac" location mailbox with Mail (which is stored locally on your hard drive) saves the transferred message locally on your hard drive and removes the message from the server at the same time.
The same doesn't apply to a POP account which is the reason for my question regarding the account type.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for your .Mac account preferences will show the account type at the top.
You can raise the amount of server storage space allocated for email messages or remove messages from the server to get rid if the error message and back under your server storage limit.
