Mail Client & Gmail

Is anyone else having any issues with the mail client and gmail working together?  I have run into the issue a few times and I have had to reestablish communication between the two.  My situation is that I currently use gmail as my primary email and for added security I use the 2 step verification.  The mail client will work perfectly for a while and then it will spontaneously say that my password is incorrect.  Seeing as this has happened more than once, I am beginning to think it might be an issue with the two talking to eachother.  I don't want to lose the added security from 2 step verification, but I switched to Apple because I wanted my electronics to "just work" without too much modification.  Also, I am now using "mailbox" for my phone and that seems to have problems with working with my icloud mail server.  Is this a common issue?  Has anyone else experienced this?  It tells me that the authentication has been revoked by the host, which leads me to believe it is Apple not playing nice again, which hardly makes sense in my mind because it is an app they approved for their app store.  I am not working on any jailbroken equipment and all of my products within the ecosystem are new and legit.  I own a Macbook Air, an iPad Air, an iPhone 5s and I sync them all.  Could this also be a contributing factor?
Tl;dr: My mail client is saying my password for gmail is incorrect despite it not being.  My "mailbox" app says iCloud password is incorrect despite it not being.
Thanks for your help!

I've had an iPhone and iPad for awhile now and they both work great -- I get callendar and contact and email sync with gmail...but OS X's mail client in snow leopard and lion will not do this?  That *****.  I don't get why they won't support ActiveSync on their desktop mail client but they will on their mobile devices...I just got a new macbook air -- for all intents and purposes, it's a mobile device!  Damnit all.
I know everyone says "just use imap" -- but that's not a solution.
ActiveSync owns imap 100 times over.

  • Lion mail client - gmail on exchange

Has anyone been sucessfully able to set up their gmail accounts in Lion via the Exchange server method (like what's popular on iPhones) ?
    http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138740
I tried, using the same settings that work on the iPhone (user: email address, password, server: m.google.com) but Lion doesn't seem to like this. Says something about an invalid exchange email address or something like that?
I'd prefer to have my gmail (cal/mail/contacts) set up through Lion via this Exchange method, if possible.
Any ideas or experiences from others on this query?
    Cheers,
    Joe

  • Why does mail sent using the MacOSX mail client not show up in my sent folder when I access my Gmail account in a browser?

I've recently started using my first Mac, and I hooked my work email (Forwarded to Google Mail) and my personal email (Gmail) into the MacOSX mail client. Everything seemed to be going smoothly, until I noticed that sent mail from my work email through the MacOSX Mail client is not showing up in my sent box on any other clients. Sent mail does show up in my personal email in Gmail, though.
Can anyone help me understand why mail sent from the MacOSX Mail client doesn't end up in the sent folder of my work Gmail account? I suspect it has something to do with the forwarding-to-Google process -- a sort of "too many cooks in the kitchen" situation. Has anyone heard of this problem before? What should I try?

I've been noticing that too.  Just told me there were 6 outgoing messages, even though I did not create any new messages.
One hypothesis is that it's generating those messages when a rule moves an email from one folder to another.
Can someone at Apple confirm this?

  • Can not install Gmail e-mail client

I unsubscribed from BIS, but still have data plan with my carrier. I installed 3-rd party browser Opera and it works fine. When I am trying to install g-mail client, by going to gmail/mobile via Opera browser, Opera invokes standard blackberry browser. And in blackberry browser I am getting mistake: "Your device does not currently have any browser configuration service book entries"
Is there some way to solve this problem and start getting e-mails on my blackberry 8100?
    Thank you in advance.

    Hello,
Yup...that's annoying. I guess Opera does not have the capability to process the .jad for installation to the BB. You should perhaps try changing your BB Browser configuration settings to see if that helps.
Homescreen > Options > Advanced Options > Browser
Change those settings around (away from BB Browser) and see if perhaps you can get it to work.
    Also check here:
    Homescreen > Browser > > Options
Check throughout all of those to ensure that the BB Browser is functioning NOT as the native BB Browser but as HotSpot or something else.
You will likely have to experiment some to find the right combination of settings...and it is possible that it won't work at all. Sadly, since I have BIS, I can't really test myself...but if you do find the solution, I'm sure that others in the community will appreciate your posting the result.
    Good luck!

  • Configuring Apple Mail client to work with gmail and mail relays

I have a gmail account [email protected] and am successfully using this account from both my macbookpro an iphone.
I also have an e-mail relay account [email protected] I have successfully configured the email relay to send mail to [email protected] and get it fine on my mail client. My problem is that when I reply to these emails or create fresh e-mails, I'd like it to use the address [email protected] not [email protected] When I used to use Eudora, there was a setting in the account configuration screen called "reply to" this would change the reply to email account to whatever I wanted, in this case, [email protected] I have scoured the mail documentation and realize that I am missing something simple. I would appreciate any assistance with configuration settings necessary to have my relay alias show-up on my mail headings.
    thanks
    Art

The first thing to do is to log into the Gmail web site and configure your account so that it allows you to send mail from [email protected]
Then configure your account in Mail so that the Email Address is [email protected] That should do it. This is better than setting a reply-to because the mail will really be from [email protected] and not [email protected]
If you want, you can put both [email protected] and [email protected] in the Email Address (separated with a comma) in which case Mail will show a popup menu labeled From below the Subject. You can then select which address the message should be from.

  • I applied security update 2014-002 and mail client no longer can send to gmail

Has anybody else seen this issue/ is there a solution? The company I do consulting for use gmail for their corporate email hosting. After the security update was applied, my Mavericks mail client stopped talking to gmail.  I tried recreating the account, cleaned out passwords from my keychain, etc. Eventually, it started receiving incoming email, but nothing goes out via the google smtp server.

I get the same issue with a smaller service provider than Google ( Celeonet) which host our website and services.
I was away for some days and let my MBP do the update by itself during this period.
Mail show a popup that recommand to:
    - check the adress of the receiver
    - check smtp parameters
I'm sure of the adress, and smtp parameters didn't change.
I made a diagnostic inside Mail, and everything seems to be ok. (green dot everywhere)

  • Synchronisation problems between apple mail client on a MacBook Pro and Gmail

I am having synchronisation problems between apple mail client and gmail on the MacBook Pro, but no similar problems on the ipad and iphone. My mail is not being collected by the aplle mail client on the laptop, and now all my inbox for my gmail account has disappeared, although the Archive and sub folders under "Google" are still showing.
    This is an intermittent problem.
I have previousy re-built the mailbox and solved the problem, but there must be something more fundamental going on, as the problem has occurred again.
    Anyone have any tips?

Sorry, but no. POP3 versus IMAP has nothing to do with keeping spam off your computer. Your ISP should be doing its filtering before the mail reached the mail server in either case, and your Mac would be doing its filtering after downloading the mail from the mail server in either case. (Your iPad does no filtering at all.)

  • Hooking up mail client with Gmail

I have a feeling that something is amiss in the way my machine is configured, but I've become frustrated because I can't find instructions to setup Apple Mail 1.3.11 (only Mail 3 is illustrated at the Google site). There are a lot of generalities given elsewhere, but nothing specific!
Would appreciate a little help here.

I appreciate your correction. However, I was going by the specs listed by Google in their eMail help page as to requirements for using POP or IMAP Mail clients. I don't doubt what you say, but just noting that is what I found. You probably have other information available to you as to Google's specs of which I am not aware. Note that in your first link in your initial post it specifies Apple Mail 2.0 and in Google's supported client's list Apple Mail is listed as required for POP and supported IMAP client list Apple Mail 2 and Apple Mail 3 are listed. If you are aware of other documentation please link them, if you don't mind.

  • Can't setup POP3 E-mail on mail client on my MacBook Pro

So this problem is getting really out of hand and I'm not sure what options I have left. So here are the details:
I'm trying to set up my work e-mail (the site host is Network Solutions) with Mail. There seem to be no problems with the online client. I can sign on without any troubles so password and username are correct. I'm using Mail 4.4. I first enter my name, e-mail, and password with no problems. Then for the incoming mail server I do the same, choosing POP, and I get the following message:
"The POP server "mail.companysite.com" (with the proper domain inserted) is not responding. Try checking the network connection, and that the server name is correct. Otherwise, the server might be temporarily unavailable. If you continue, you might not be able to receive messages."
i get this regardless if i put my username as just username or [email protected] and my network connection is fine as my other e-mail accounts (2 gmails set up as IMAP) work just fine. I've tried using different ports other than the default 110. Still the same problem.
An interesting little quirk is that at one point it actually did work, then suddenly without any changes to anything that I could tell, it stopped. When it was working, I had it set up on my iPod touch and even when it stopped on my computer it kept working on my iPod. But that also didn't last as now I can no longer connect or even set it up.
But wait! There's more. I've tried all the different debugging methods I can come up with, including trying to set it up on different e-mail clients, Entourage and Thunderbird, with the same result. Then I eventually tried it on another computer, on a PC running Windows XP, and wouldn't you know it, it set up without a hitch! so this means that my account is properly set up for this. Furthermore, I know it is possible to use an e-mail client on a mac with this domain as one of my coworkers has set it up on Entourage and Mail as well as his iPhone. I have no firewall settings currently on so nothing should be blocking and i've tried it using several different internet connections in different countries (seemingly then it's not a router or modem issue)
Anyone have any ideas? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! Let me know if there's any more info you would need me to provide.

Create a New User Account, and as that New User try to set up this one account -- as it is POP, set to leave messages on the server after download. If not familiar with setting up a New User Account, see:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8235.html
This will be a useful test, and is not meant to suggest a permanent switch to the New User Account, but rather a test of the Mail application outside of your normal User Account.
Also in System Preferences/Networks click on Advanced, then Proxies and make sure no proxy selections have been checked.

  • [solved] XFCE default mail client

In preferred applications in the XFCE settings manager the two simple questions appeared: default web browser and default mail client.  I set these to firefox and thunderbird respectively, and XFCE indeed recognized that I meant Bon Echo and Mail/News. For the strangest reason, every hyperlink to an HTTP or FTP protocol will indeed open up in firefox and go where it should, but mailto links will do nothing.  In firefox I searched about:config for all options containing the world "mail" and set them to enable as many things as possible.  Gmail is smart enough to open mailto links because it overrides the default mail client behaviour and just opens up a Gmail compose window, which I'm sure many of you know.  This is another one of those minor problems that I'm having alot of these days, so any help would be appreciated.

  • How can I do a clean install of Mac Mail client? ...

... without doing a clean reinstall of the entire OS?
I've been wrestling with my Mac Mail client all day and am pretty sure I've got a corrupted file somewhere, either in the app or in the Home<Library folder somewhere. I've been using the mail app for several years without issues with .mac mail as the primary and a couple of POP accounts from gmail and pacbell. The troubles began late Monday when I was batch deleting some old e-mails from the mail server. The entire inbox (maybe 120+ e-mails disappeared.
Since then, I can receive mail from all three mail providers, but am unable to send via any provider on my Mac Mail client. I have a PC that pulls mail from all three services via POP3, and it's working fine for both sending and receiving.
I was also able to create a .mac account on the Mac Mail client on a spare iMac and had no trouble sending or receiving from it. But the Mail client on my G5 refuses to send. I've reconfigured all the accounts, checked them 10 times, deleted and reinstalled them all, all to no avail, which is why I think there's bad ju-ju in one of the files somewhere.
    Any suggestions?
    Many thanks.

First find out if you need to reinstall the mail app. Create a new user by going to system preferences >accounts. Unlock the lock and click on the + sign. Create a new user account. Log into the new user by going to the apple menu and logging out. In the new user go to system preferences>.mac. Enter your user name and password. If you can log in here then open Mail. Your .mac mail should be automatically set up. Send a test e-mail to yourself. If Mail works then the problem is specific to your user account and you do not need to reinstall the Mail app. If the Mail works then consider continuing to set up your other accounts in this user. Once your accounts are working in the new user close all windows and applications. Go the the ~/Library/Preferences and holding down on the Option key drag the com.apple.mail.plist to desktop. Now select your hard drive icon in the finder window and double click on the Users folder. Drag the com.apple.mail.plist into the Shared folder. Log out of your new user account and back into your account. Navigate to the ~/Library/Preferences and drag your com.apple.mail.plist from that folder onto the desktop. Open your hard drive and go to the Users folder and open it, then open the Shared folder. Drag the com.apple .mail.plist from the shared folder into the open Preferences window. Close the windows and open mail. Mail should work.
