Mail client hanging in ipad os 8.1.3

I am on my 5th reinstall of OS 8.1.3. The mail app works for a while and then hangs, totally nonresponsive, eventually dumping me back to the home screen.
How can such great hardware have such lousy software. And of course I can't go back....to 8.1.2 or before.
This is reported continually and I have yet to see a fix....

Hello there allanhm,
If I understand correctly you have reinstalled your iOS software many times but the Mail app keeps quitting back to the Home Screen. Assuming youve been restoring your backup each time, I would next restore the device ss new, and test the mail app in a clean install. Then add your accounts to your phone and verify it still works. The issue could very well be with the backed up information that is being restored:
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
Take care,
Sterling

  • Feedback on mail client.

I could see various issues with apple mail client on my ipad 2. Not basically isues but things that make browsing difficult. One example is when i am writing anew mail and then hit cancel then it asks me if i want discard or save message, this more windows-ish. The better idea would be to have a save button n the compose email popup and do not disturb the peope who just want to cancel new message and discard the email.
The guy who want to save the draft would anyway click on save in the popup. Just a thought.

The place to post your suggestions is here:

  • No email access from Mail clients or iPad

I have been using the same email account for years with no issues.
I can access email through web browser, and can even forward e-mails to my blackberry.
Mac Mail, Mac Outlook, IPAD thunderbird etc. Can no longer access my Verizon yahoo email account. I have tried every suggestion to date. Tried every port combination suggested with SSL on and off. Deleted all accounts and started from scratch.. Reset IPAD from scratch.  The last email I received through Mail was Feb. 3. Downloaded the automated program which didn't work, I tried online chat  with Verizon tech, but they claimed that since I could still access email through the web, its an Apple software issue. The Apple store is blaming Verizon for not providing the appropriate port info etc to access. And truthfully, with all of the information on the Verizon website to set up mail client software, there is no set of rules that seems to apply.
On this message board it states verizon.net, or the webpage doesn't exist. On other pages it suggests yahoo.verizon.net. Fios comes up with different info from DSL, and old port info (25) is still out there
It seems there is no solution, just hit or miss  attempts. As Apple marketshare increases, the support provided is somehow getting to be less than it already was.
Sorry to ramble on, but this is really frustrating

  • Problem with iPad Mail Client

Most people have a normal mail server, meaning that when you login with your mail client, it starts up IMAP processes on your mail server to give you the email.
So ... I use my desktop, to login to read mail mostly. I use Thunderbird because it lets you control somethings that the Mail app on the Mac does not ... like the number of cached connections. In an enterprise context, both Apple's and Microsoft's mail clients are total pigs. They start up these IMAP connections and they never drop them, putting a huge load and creating tons of connections so that email users can check their email ever few minutes. This is a very poor design.
Thunderbird allows you to take the client offline so that those connections are cleared and the resources on the server are not monopolized, but Outlook Express and Mail do not ... at least as far as I can tell.
So ... when you check your mail you create these connections, and then when you check your mail from the your iPad, your double what you just probably have running from your desktop, or laptop, or whatever computer you normally use and are not at because you are using your iPad.
When you switch from the iPad Mail app to another app, it does not clear those connections, and it maintains the connection even if you are not using it.
Is there some way to configure this OFF, so that your mail is not maintaining these connections?
And ... don't tell me to go into
    Settings
    -> Mail/Contacts/Calendars
-> Fetch New Data (turn push off) (switch schedule to manual)
    -> Advanced
    -> <individual account>
    ->(switch to manual)
Which is by the way a very complex thing to do, remember, and configure ... but it does not work as far as I can tell.
Companies, at least many of them in an enterprise context need these things to not waste cycles and resources on their servers ... not to mention ISP's and websites don't like it either.
Why is it that a free mail client like Thunderbird can do better than both Apple and Microsoft at solving this problem ... though it is not completely solved by either?

Because most users have no idea what cached connections are. They just want it to work.
Perhaps you should submit a bug report to Apple

Apple Mail client no longer marks my mail as read on all my iOS devices. If I read a email on my iPhone and later open Mail on my iPad, the iPad still shows the email as unread. This changed recently, perhaps after iOS7 upgrade. Did I miss a setting? All mail account are IMA. iCloud is set to push, business mail is set to fetch every 15 minutes.

Read thier own support document on the subject then
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1795
This document was written as an answer to all those who complained about it as paying MobileMe users
They ignored us then and when MobileMe became iCloud they ignored us again, and just carried on with a system that will not update the e-mail read status across all devices
That's how it works,   and like you 1000's of loyal Apple users cant believe it either but there you go

  • How do I edit the email address that's set-up in my iPad Mail client?  It's at iOS7

How do I edit the email address that's set-up in my iPad Mail Client Account?  It's at iOS7 and the email address was entered incorrectly; this means the email doesn't work.  There's an Edit button, which causes 3 horizontal lines to apperar at the end of the field, but does not seem to allow me to place the cursor in the field and correct the error.  Unless I can correct this I'll have delete the account and start again so if anyone's able to tell me how to edit that address that would be briliant?  Here's hoping................

Thanks mabaeyens; it IS the address entered in the email account, on the iPad, but sadly, as explained above, once you get to the Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Account > tap in the wrong account > Email and then hit edit, the 3 horizontal lines appear at the end of the field but touching the screen within the text of the incorrect address doesn't make the cursor appear, so I can't edit!  Very frustrating obviously.  In the edit mode you can drag the field up and down the page but that's all............

  • Mail synch between iPhone iPad Mini using IMAP

This is a complex questions, so please bear with me.
    Setup
I use Mac Mini desktop, iPhone and iPad. All less than 18 months old.
    Mail is setup for IMAP
My mail is picked up from my ISP's server.
I use SpamSieve for spam, which puts spam in the spam folder "On My Mac"
    On my iPhone settings are:
         Advanced Settings for Mail,
              Draft Mailbox > Drafts
Sent Mailbox > Sent Messages > on server
Incoming Settings: IMAP Pathe Prefix INBOX
    Issues/Questions
Mail incoming shows up on all the devices, but when I send mail from iPhone or iPad, it doesn’t show up in sent folder in desktop
When I try and delete mail from the trash, I often get the message: "can't delete mail xxxx file is missing."
My list of accounts on the left pane have folders from my server, such as ".mailboxlist, .openwebmail, which I would like to see disappear.
The On My Mac section on the left has 12 folders like: "Sent Messages (sender accountname)"  I don't know where these came from, but nothing is more current than July.
I really do not grok the logic of how these settings should be handled for multiple devices and I haven't seen any comprehensive explanations on the net.
Mail seems to not pick up mail for extended periods sometimes and I have to close and restart for it to do so. The refresh mail button doesn't work until I do so.
I am too often rebuilding mailboxes, which seems to help.
Any help, explanations, suggestions would be appreciated by me and probably thousands of others.
    Thanks.

Apparently you must be very narrow minded. I don't want to develop an e-mail client from the scratch.
I would implement the sync the following way.
Assuming I use POP3 on both my iPhone and my MacBook. On my iPhone mail client I am downloading e-mails and reading them from time to time and replying. There is an ended set of what you actions you can do with your e-mails. Every e-mail has a unique ID / fingerprint - you can recognize it with 100% accuracy. I'm also downloading e-mails on my MacBook mac mail and performe the same ended set of actions on this e-mails. So the system architecture should be as follows:
    1. MacBook mail client queues all the actions I have performed with my e-mails on my MacBook.
    2. iPhone mail client does the same - creates a queues with actions I have performed on my iPhone.
    3. If I have the syncing turned on on both of my devices and I'm logged in on both of them with the same Apple ID both devices process the queues to my iCloud, compare it and update status of my e-mails according to the actions in each queue.
So I will rather wait until Apple will do this simple solution.

  • Since iOS 8.1.2 upgrade problems with yahoo mail via apple mail client

Since the upgrade to iOS 8.1.2 on my iPad I'm having issues with my yahoo mail account when using the apple mail client. I can send emails but cannot receive them. When I use the yahoo mail app there is no problem Sending or receiving. I have deleted and reinstalled my yahoo email account from the apple mail client. I have checked the wifi by changing between wifi hotspots. I have also restarted the iPad as well as resetting. None of these actions have resolved the problem. would appreciate any assistance that can be provided.

Do you use two-step verification for your Yahoo! account? If yes, you need an app-specific password.
If no, make sure your password is already entered in the "Outgoing Mail Server" in the Settings app.

  • How do I put junk e-mail in the junk mail box on my iPad automatically like it does on iMac?

Does anyone know how to get junk mail to go into the junk mailbox on an iPad like it does on the iMac?

That is a function of your email providers server when it comes to iOS. The mail client does not have any way to create and run rules.

  • Outlook (former Hotmail) Forum says I need to get a "Mail Client" that works with 10.4.11

    Hello Apple Friends:
    I have a PowerBook G4 still running Tiger 10.4.11.
Unfortunately, due to virus concerns and spam at work, I have had to use non-apple mail such as Hotmail for well over a decade now.  Not a problem!  Mac works fine.  But the folks over in the "Microsoft" (delete that word after reading it) group felt their Hotmail was too old fashioned and jazzed it up and are calling it Outlook now.
And Hotmail/new Outlook no longer works like it did before on the Tiger OSX of course!
After over a month and reading dozens of Emails (about 20 which I sent myself) to various Forums and help groups, the latest "advice" is that I go searching for an "old style" "Mail client" whatever that is.... that will work with Tiger 10.4.11.  And install and transfer it somehow, hopefully without losing or deleting 17 years of contacts and Email, transfer over to using it for my Outlook (I looked at some others who have the great modern Mountain Lion etc OSX systems and read their posts about this and they had significant problems using the new Outlook too.
Problem is, I deal with many very stubborn people who are just not going to spend the time and effort needed to "convert" my "hotmail" address into anything new to replace it, not even counting how many weeks of effort, missed emails messed up communications this will entail and last far into 2014 I'm sure.
The best hope is that someone knows of a "Legacy" site with older mail clients on it (or even older browsers than my Safari 4.1.3 in case someone thinks that is the problem (I also tried it with Firefox, but only can have up to 3.6.28 and TenFoxFour is not highly recommended as it creates unstable computers occassionally)
So I'm caught in the middle trying to upgrade older Mac and without the funds needed to purchase one that has Intel Chip in it for use with something higher than Leopard so I can use the Hotmail/Outlook again.
Sorry for long message, but I wanted to cover all the bases in case someone is searching the data base of the Forum in later months, and hopefully someone else here has has similiar total frustration with trying to continue using the  "M--------" free Email product.
While I'm on the topic, I wondered if the .Mac was an Email client?   I had it once but long ago subscrption elapsed and got notice that it became "mobile me" or something like that....just covering all the bases since Apple has so many more choices.
Thanks for reading all of this complicated (you should only see the other Emails!) question. (sorry products and username are wrong for this message can't get the hang of editing them "before" I think of writing the message!).

    Hi BDAqua:
Just catching up to your earlier suggestions so hope this is not taken as anything less than the excellent advice and fantastic support you have given me here..
I cannot use the current edition of Sea Monkey  2.17.1  as  System Requirements are : 10.6 Minimum, and I have Tiger 10.4.11 max in "non-Intel"  G4
Note also that reading details (I always do)  I cannot just jump to that one if I could or wanted to as too old a Sea Monkey at 1.1.19.  They say to upgrade to 2.0 first, then reset the "profile" page  (does anyone remember my password or even what Email I used back in 2004??)  before moving on to upgrade  (use it at least once in new profile of course!)
So I copied them first here for anyone else's information:
    System Requirements, Installation and Uninstallation
Before installing, make sure your computer meets the system requirements. SeaMonkey 2.17.1 will no longer offer to migrate your data from SeaMonkey 1.x or Mozilla 1.x at the first start after installation (bug 689437). In order to upgrade from such an old version, install the last SeaMonkey 2.0 release first, do the one-time profile upgrade, uninstall SeaMonkey 2.0 and then install your target release (e.g. this one).
You can find more details about installation, profile data and uninstallation in our install and uninstall document.
Here are the specifics of Minimum Requirements of Sea Monkey 2.17.1  version:
    Mac
    Operating Systems
Mac OS X 10.6 or higher
    Minimum Hardware
Macintosh computer with an Intel processor
200 MB of free hard drive space
Older System Sea monkey 2.0 requirements are ::
    Mac
    Operating Systems
    Mac OS X "Tiger" (10.4)
    Mac OS X "Leopard" (10.5)
Mac OS X "Snow Leopard" (10.6)
    Minimum Hardware
Macintosh computer with an Intel x86 or PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor
    256 MB RAM
200 MB of free hard drive space
But.....  Caution signs are EVERYWHERE not to download or use this anymore.....
(I know my 1.1.19 is  really old but so old no one bothers with it anymore??  but newer ones may have huge security loophole for viruses etc....
    Sea Monkey 2.0.14 Warns:
    Released April 28, 2011
WARNING! The SeaMonkey version available for download from this page is outdated and suffers from known security vulnerabilities. This page is only available for historic reference.
We strongly advise you to download the current release instead.
So I'm sorry if I could not follow your instructions and get a better Sea Monkey Experience as well.....  I'm just using existing one as another browser in addition to the newer ones provided as I use them for different purposes, i.e. Sea Monkey can be great for just interrupted "look ups" on google, etc of a quick definition and then closing it, so nothing complicated, no Java/Adobe Flash ads requirements, etc in and out that's all.
Then I can leave my major browsing and using Email Hotmail/Outllook which prompted this whole exploration of solutions for the two brand new browsers TenFourFox and OmniWeb..
Thanks again to everyone!  I replied to everyone below in addition to this reply above to BDAqua....

  • Yahoo! Mail glitches with Lion mail client and Address Book app

I had really been looking forward to using my Yahoo! mail account in the Lion mail client but now that it is here and I have set it up and used it for a few days I am noticing the following issues:
New mail is not always received or is received late. Yahoo! Webmail portal shows new items but these sometimes do not appear in Lion mail client even after a manual 'get mail' check.
Mail marked as read in Yahoo! Webmail portal or in mail clients in iOS devices such as iPhone or iPad is not marked as read in Lion mail client, however the reverse does work (i.e. mail marked as read in Lion mail client does mark the message as read in webmail and in clients on iOS devices).
Yahoo! Aliases are not supported. Yes, you can add aliases by inserting the other email addresses in the 'Email Address' field of the account settings, but you cannot add more than one display name.
I have also found that if you turn on Yahoo! contacts via the tick-box in the new 'Mail, Contacts & Calendars' pref pane in System Preferences that I end up with random duplicated contacts. These duplicates are not seen on iOS devices, just in the Address Book app. If you delete a duplicate contact, it deletes the contact altogether. However, I have found that if you keep contacts unticked in the pref pane and add your Yahoo! account the old-fashioned way (i.e. via the Address Book app's own preferences) then the contacts sync through perfectly with no duplications.
I would be interested to know if anybody else is experiencing these issues. It may be worth noting that mine is not a @yahoo.com address but @xtra.co.nz which belongs to my ISP here in New Zealand, but the mail is managed by Yahoo!. The account works perfectly as a Yahoo! account on iOS devices and does appear to be working in Lion, except for these small glitches but I don't imagine these are specific to @xtra.co.nz addresses.
    Thanks
    Steve

i've had the same experience here.
essentially it seems like lion mail.app just takes an incredibly long time to pickup new changes from the IMAP server at yahoo.
ios and webmail are obviously much quicker.
if it is working on ios, why does is it so delayed in mail?
    any solutions out there?

  • I need a new mail client for MS Exchange Mail- Entourage is slow

Does anyone know if there is a mail client for Mac that can access MS Exhange Server mail? I am running MS Office Entourage 04 on a MacBook Pro with 2GB RAM (max). Entourage will work fine (using Rosetta) but occasionally hangs and is sluggish. If I can type faster than a computer thinks there is a problem (my typing is bad).

Aside from Apple's own Mail application, and it's limited support for Exchange servers, I don't think there are any other apps...

  • Am I able to synch separate email accounts/clients to different ipads?

Am I able to synch separate email accounts/clients to different ipads from the same machine?
Two users, each have an ipad.  On the same machine. one user utilizes the Mac mail client, the other uses Outlook for Mac, both users using the same machine login and user profile.  I want to synch my iPad's mail and folders to Outlook but leave the other iPad synching to the Mac Mail client.
    How can I accomplish this?
    Thanks in advance!
    -Sam

Well.. that is lame. IMHO, it shouldn't matter if I have POP or IMAP, so long as the data set is on the local machine it should synch my folders. I can't stand not being able to add folders on the ipad mail client..
anyway.. thanks very much.. though it's not the answer I hoped for I appreaciate it.

  • Jpg attachments corrupt under leopard mail and hang message

    I-phone: Message shows fine
Exchange on Leopard: Message shows up fine
Leopard Mail Dual PPC G5: Message hangs
Leopard Mail MacBook Pro Intel: Message hangs
The only way to see the corrupted message is to choose "forward as attachment". When opening it it shows that the jpg image looks to be the instigator..... (the old millions of lines of code issue)
    Anyone else having similar issues?

Same here. I have a client that uses outlook. He has an auto-signature in his mail client. Part of his signature is a JPG of his corporate logo. Every email he sends freezes (it says loading, but nothing happens... I haven't waiting long enough to see an error message). I called him and had him send a test with no logo. Works just fine. So, it is specifically the logo in his signature line that is causing the error.
