Mail client in 10.8.2 deleted/moved mail comes back

I am having a VERY annoying issue with my mail. I can delete, or move mail I have read to another folder on my mac, and if I click to another folder and go back to my inbox, the mail is back! I have been on these boards looking for an answer, but nothing seems to fit exactly.
I am using a g-mail account, and an account from my domain. It doesn't seem to discriminate between the two. This i

Hello, are these IMAP or POP accounts? I suspect POP.
In Mail>Preferences>Accounts, highlight one account, click advanced tab, is Remove from Server after downloading unchecked?

I have Google as the opening page.I would like to get rid of Google and Gmail.

  • Thrid party application wont delete in trash- comes back

i have downloaded a thrid party applciation named 4easy dvd ripper; the free version . I tried to get rid of it by droping in into the trash but not all files deleted.. I had to search for every single file that went with it ... The problem is that the actul application that opens up the download box wont erase from my mac. It comes back evry time i place it in the trash.. the trash will take the .dmg application but once i try to delete form the trash it pop back to Doenloads. How can i get rid of thing .. please help

I think i found a solution ... I had to use the secure empty trash option under finder to completely erase it off otherwise if you try to empty the trash using the regular "empty trash" option the item would disappear from trash and would come back to the mac download folder agian ! ... Thanks for the advice though.

  • I have a large thing of messages that when I delete it, it comes back

I have a large file of messages that when I delete it it messes up my phone and won't let me send messages or use most things until I turn it off and then back on .. But when I turn it back on all of my messages come back .. is there anyway to fix this without restoring my phone?

No, you cannot backup via direct usb connection..
But gigabit ethernet is much faster anyway.. are you connected directly by ethernet?
Is the drive you are backing up from plugged into the TC? That will slow it down something chronic.. plug that drive in by its fastest connection method.. WESC sorry I have no idea. If ethernet use that.. otherwise USB direct to the computer.. always think what way the files come and go.. but since you are copying from the computer everything has to go that way.. it makes things slower if they go over the same cable.. if you catch the drift.

  • Deleted e-mails come back using a GMail IMAP account

I have Mail 4.1 on SnowLeopard, just configured it with a Gmail IMAP account and received all my 7000+ (yeah, you've read that right, sever THOUSAND plus) emails. Now I would like to delete them, I do so, I close the app and when I launch it back the emails are downloaded again.
I did a little research and double-check the settings as Google recommends for their IMAP config with Mail app (although their configs are for Mail 3.0):
    Trash:
Move deleted messages to the Trash mailbox > do NOT check
Store deleted messages on the server > do NOT check
I still get them back, those buggers. it is very annoying.
After more research I found some recommendation to delete the com.apple.mail.plist which I did, i rebuild email box and still get the same results (deleting mails, quitting the app and when I launch again I get the deleted massages back).
Is this a problem with Mail 4? It don't recall having it with Mail 3 on Leopard. And I don't recall seeing it as a known bug. What is going on?

I don't know how to edit a previous post, therefore I am posting a reply to myself (grin). I went back to my MacBookPro (with Leopard) and created a brand new user account and configured Mail (different version then the one on Snow Leopard, right?) and I get the same crap: I delete the email and is coming back a few seconds later or upon the re-launch of the Application. Again, the settings are:
    Gmail IMAP account
Do not save the deleted messages on the server
    Delete upon quitting mail
It is very frustrating. On the MBP I am using Entourage and I didn't want to use any Microsoft products on the new iMac (turns out to be obsolete since yesterday). I seems like I am stuck in the Microsoft World though; how sad!

outgoiong mail is rejected by iCloud server, all other services seem fine?

  • I am using Windows 7 and no matter what I try, I can not delete the history/search on the left of the screen? Even if I hi-lite and delete, it always comes back?

Have tried all the tips from troubleshooting. Private Browsing, checking and unchecking of boxes. It used to clear every time I closed Firefox? I don't normally open this or use it for links since I have most of what I use under Bookmarks...Thanks

If you created those prefs in a previous Firefox version then they will still be there, but they won't have any effect in current Firefox versions, so you can right-click them and choose reset to remove them.

  • When Mail Comes Back Up - Things to Consider

I'm one of the people affected by the iCloud Mail outage.  On the other hand, I've been with Apple since 1984 and specifically has used dotMac, MobileMe and now iCloud.
Because of that long history, I long ago came to the conclusion never to reply on Apple's supplied email as either your only email account or else it if's mission-critical email--such as the main contact address for a business.
About 14 years ago I purchased a domain name (based on my family's surname) stictly for email use.  It's linked to a plain POP3 account from Network Solutions.  It's been completely reliable during that time.  My address associated with that domain name as always been my primary email address.  However, iCloud IMAP is nice.  When things are working, I've got my POP3 account set to automatically foward all mail to my iCloud account.  When iCloud is not working, I turn off forwarding--like I did yesterday.  My mistake yesterday was to wait too long to turn off the forwarding, thinking that iCloud email problems would be short-term.
I always send important email via my POP3 account so that the address associated with that account is the one that's in the outside world.  I also have a rule set up to sweep sent email from my POP3 account to my iCloud account so that those sent messages are available on all of my devices.
Yes, it costs a small amount to keep my domain name each year and it costs another small amount for the POP3 accounts for my wife and I.  But I do like iCloud syncing and do like the IMAP email that's always available on all of my Apple devices.  I think this setup works pretty well.  Every time I think about canceling my POP3 account, something like this happens.
Don't flame me.  There are many messages in the various threads in this forum describing situations where someone's iCloud mail is not working and that email account is critical for that person.  There are obviously other approaches, including canceling iCloud.  My approach is just one of many.

To be honest, a domain name and a full featured hosting account, with IMAP email typically can be had for under $200 (or even under $100, depending on the features you want or need) per year.
I have my own domains as well (use different ones for different purposes) and even owning multiple domain names my total hosting bill is about $153.00/year.  For that I can host multiple web sites, have up to 2000 IMAP mail inboxes each with a unique email address, get something like 200GB of mass storage (not sure actually what the limit is now, it keeps growing each year), have blacklisting and whitelisting on the emails.  And, I get 24/7 uptime and support - in the last 5 years, my email has only been down once, and that was for an announced scheduled downtime late at night.
If you need mission critical email, then get a service that fits the bill - it is cheap relative to what you've already spent in computer hardware and other costs of creating and running a business.  None of the free services, not one of them, promises anything about uptime, and all of them have terms of service that explicitly obsolve them of any responsibility for loss or damages due to downtimes.

  • Deleted photos have come back?

When I take photos, I take many at a time. I then import into iPhoto 08 and delete the ones I don't like. All of a sudden today I've noticed that my library is full of old photos that I thought I deleted. I realise this is a strange problem to have (most people complain about accidentally deleting photos and wanting to get them back). But this is really annoying too! Any ideas about how to get my library back to the way it was?

    How are you deleting them?
The correct procedure is to remove the photos from the Library (either Events or Photos view, it doesn't matter) by putting them in the iPhoto trash, then going iPhoto Menu -> Empty trash. This removes the pics from iPhoto and the Hard Disk.
Putting pics in the trash from an Album simply removes them from that Album, not the Library.

  • Deleted Emails Come back into Inbox

I have a iPhone 3GS with POP3 email account. When i delete emails from the iPhone inbox, occassionally I'll receive the same emails as "new" emails into my inbox again...after they've been deleted. Sometimes i delete by sliding the message to show the delete button, sometimes i use the edit to delete multiple emails and sometimes i delete from within the message. i have the settings set to delete from server when deleted from inbox. any thoughts?

I have the same problem on MacBook Pro using os 10.5.8 with Mail 3.6.
I discovered that if I look at emails that have been sent to trash select them and press delete they all come back. When I do the proper erase deleted messages then they don't.
This might be useful on your iphone.
I now have emails coming back to me weeks, or months after I have deleted them, particularly ones with photos attached that I have sent through Kodak EasyShare, and copied to myself!! does anyone know what I can do about this? apart from being a waste of time, I might receive 100 photos in one day which slows everything down and effects my data usage.

  • Cannot delete messages i now have over 30000 messages in box if I cancel the acount will it delete all messages?  And if i create a new account with the same address will they all come back?

Cannot delete message they come back imediately, I now 30,111 messages in inbox

Try logging into your email provider's web interface on a computer. Mark some of those emails as spam - this will vary based on provider, and I do not know how Videotron does it.
Delete the others. Hopefully, they have some spam filter and will begin to learn those emails are just junk.

  • My IPhone 4's mailing feature does not display the toolbar at the bottom for deleting, moving, or writing emails. What is wrong with it?

My work recently decided to buy every full time employee an IPhone 4 to be used for work purposes. (I do suspect these are refurbished, but I don't think that matters) I have had no trouble with it, except for on occasion the mailing feature does not display the toolbar at the bottom for deleting, moving, or writing emails. You know what I'm talking about...that bar at the bottom of the mailbox when you open an email that you use to delete, respond, forward, move, etc. It just goes away for no reason, and then reappears for a day or two, and goes away again. It is quite annoying since I can't respond to any of my emails without getting on my work computer. If you have any suggestions, please help!

    Hi there,
You may need to force close the Mail application when this happens. The next time this happens, use the steps in the article below to coles out of the mail application.

  • Moved or deleted emails keep coming back to Mail inbox

Since Maverick installation, I have been trying to keep my folders from various email accounts organized like in the good old days of Lion but Mail keeps moving my emails back to the original inbox each time I try to either delete or move one of the emails (it usually happens after 3-5 minutes). So much time wasted every day... How to fix please? Thanks.

Just wondering if you have the latest Mail update. This may fix the issue.
    Hope this helps

  • Deleting/Moving a mobile client account?

    Hello -
I've changed the topic of this question after reading the entries here that matched 'move mobile client', now I'd like to know not only how to move a mobile client to a different server, but potentially how to delete one and go back to local home directories.
Two weeks ago I began my second annual attempt to install Mac OS X Server, this time using 10.6 with the 10.6.3 Combo. One of the reasons I've pursued Server is to try the Mobile Accounts feature.
I completed configuring a few days ago, set up my laptop as a mobile account and synced it to the server. I realized immediately that the tool would not support a 30+ gigabyte home directory and disabled syncing while I continued testing other features.
Yesterday I blew away the lab installation and started over following a failed attempt to re-name the server to match the production name of the machine it may someday be installed as if it ever moves into production.
After a day of building the machine back up from scratch I attempted to connect to it with my laptop, which had been configured as a mobile client of the now dead and long gone lab machine. Thinking that I might simply tell the client that it was now paired with a new server appears to have been naive in the extreme.
Now I would appreciate any pointers to documentation that details the procedures for both un-pairing a client account to a server and returning control of the horizontal and vertical to it, and possibly re-pairing it to a new server (just in case it makes me really mad again and I decide to sell it into slavery).
I can't seem to find this in the manuals.
    Thanks,
    Scott.

Ah. Simple if you know where to look it seems.
    System Preferences->Accounts->Login Options->Network Server->Edit
    My faith is restored.
So little time. So much hair...

  • Mail app glitch? - deleted emails come back!?

    Hi all,
I upgraded to Mavericks today, and it hasnt been smooth at all for me - no wonder it's FREE. One major problem that I'm having is with the Mail application.
I have the application connceted to my gmail account. - When I delete emails from my inbox (on my mail application), those deleted mails reppear in my inbox! No matter how many times i try deleting them, they always come back. But, when i go on gmail.com and delete it from there, then it deletes from the mail application inbox as well.
I hope i made some sense in explaining the problem.
    Solutions? ideas?
    Thanks!

Some people are having problems with Gmail. I haven't had a problem with it at all. Gmail isn't IMAP, which Mail expects it to be, since that is what Gmail says it is, but it's not. It is Gmail.
Gmail doesn't have folders or mailboxes. It tags messages with "labels." When a new message comes in, it is tagged with "inbox" and "All Mail." When you remove it from the Inbox, it gets tagged with the new mailbox it was moved into, and the "inbox" tag is removed. That process isn't quite working for some.
It is likely that something on one end is not doing what it used to do. If Google would just implement a normal IMAP server, there wouldn't be all off this tagging and untagging bs to deal with. My guess is the problem is on Google's end of this as it's server is announcing to the world that it is IMAP and it needs to translate the IMAP requests that it gets from the email clients.
