We keep getting 450 host down for owensville.k12.mo.us, which is our domain. Every now and then an email will be sent out, but it doesn't go through until 3-4 hours after it was initially sent. It has worked fine for years. The only thing that was recently done was that all users were removed except for two or three that still needed to send encrypted emails out to banks. I'm assuming that these issues started when that was done. I've recently been handed the responsibility of fixing this even though I have almost zero Groupwise administration experience.
Other than I know our mail servers DNS name is mail.owensville.k12.mo.us I really don't know much else. Where do I begin looking?

Well the emails never made it out. Here's what the GWIA log shows for the outbound email I sent. It's not even connecting to the IP for the external domain and ends up sending back to itself. DNS seems to be fine as I can resolve all MX and A records that came up on mxtoolbox for google mail and hotmail from the Groupwise server. The 192.168.0.47 ip is the ip for the NIC on the Groupwise server. All of the Groupwise features are hosted on this one box.

  • Mail program- mail comes in but won't go out-help?

I only have one outgoing mail server and it has worked fine up until recently, when it stopped sending any outgoing mail. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks!

just to be clear, mail is coming in just fine. But whenever I try to send, it gives that message with three choices : Edit message, try later, or try with selected server. The latter is the server I've always used. NO change there.
    thanks for any ideas.

This worked for me too, by the way, for anyone wondering if it does.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • MAIL WILL REPLY, BUT WON'T SEND FRESH EMAILS FROM ADDRESS BOOK

HI, Recently set up my pop3 account on mail. And hit a problem. Mail will receive emails, will send "REPLYS" but will not send fresh emails from address book or even if i type them in manually.
    This is so stupid.
    Help guys, Thanks
    Liam

You should set it to Port 465, and select SSL, assuming this is the smtp.gmail.com server. Your ISP is probably blocking use of such a SMTP on Port 25, and that is very common policy.

iphone 4s won't bootup  the logo is on     and trying to download stops

    Erica,
I can, with 99.99% certainty, tell you that you are absolutely right in not wanting to download or install this "Helper," whatever it is (but we can be equally certain it would not "help" anything).
I cannot comment as to Oglethorpe's recommendation of 'adwaremedic'; I am unfamiliar with it.  His links to the Apple discussion and support pages warrant your time and attention.
It might be really simple -- Trying looking in your Downloads folder, trash anything that you don't know with certainty is something you want to keep, and then Secure Empty your Trash. Then remove the AdBlock extension, LastPass, and Web of Trust extensions to Safari and re-boot. If the issue goes away, still be extraordinarily careful in the future.
Unfortunately, it's probably not going to be that simple to get rid of, in which case I'd then try the line by line editing in HT203987.
I have no further suggestions (other than a complete wipe and re-install...but that's a pain because trying to restore from Time Machine would simply ... restore the Mal).
For the rest of us, please post when you find a solution.
         Best.

  • Mail almost launches but won't open properly

    Hi all
    I'm running Mac OS 10.4.10 on a G4.
I've never had a problem with Mail but since yesterday it's failed to work.
I click to open the program, it bounces in the dock, the menu bar at the top says "Mail" but I cannot get any further and control-clicking the icon in the dock shows "Application Not Responding" and I need to Force Quit.
I have plenty of space available on my disk.
Have looked through support for ages and can't seem to find this exact problem. The rest of my machine is functioning fine.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Don't worry - fixed the issue.
Simply sent the Mailboxes folder to the trash (but didn't empty!) and tried opening Mail. It told me it'd rebuild the folders on the next opening of Mail. Moved the folder back into the original folder, opened Mail and it rebuilt the folders.
    Panic over!

  • Mail receives emails but won't send

    Hi emibarwell
I am in the UK and eventually found the problem was due to my BT Home Hub Router.
I found this fix below on https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4604180?start=15&tstart=0
It worked for me.  If you can't link to the URL, here is the body of the text
There's an issue related to the BT homehub that is providing a hostname that is "syntactically incorrect" for several smtp server.
Here's how you can fix it.
Using your internet browser, go to the address "192.168.1.254
    - Follow instructions to reset your password if asked.
    - Then go to "Settings", then "Advanced Settings" and "home network"
You will see there all the devices that are connected or that has been connected before. It's gonna be easyer if yout computer is the only one connected.
Your computer should have a name like "unknown-xx:xx:xx:xx:xx ...
Click on this name, chose another name without any special characters, like "macbook" for exemple.
    And then click on "apply"
    - restart your computer.
    That should fix the issue.
Credit goes to vincentfromcork for providing me with the solution.

  • 10.5.8 won't shut down after bad SD disk removal.  It stops all applications but won't get past the final shut down screen.

I had a disk error with a SD disk from my camera.  Removed the disk from the card reader and got the Disk Removal Error alert.  Then the whole thing froze up on me.  Noting else would eject, No other apps would shut down and basically nothing worked.  I couldn't shut down so I removed the battery.  Restarted the computer ok then tried to repair the SD disk in question.  No luck on the repair so ejected it again.  Then tried to restart OS and it won't shut down again except everything still works but it just won't shut down.

Some hard drives shut off with shutdown, some don't. Sometimes hard drives that did shut off with one system will not do the same with a different system. My hard drives which did shut off, prior to 10.5 now stay on.
This is not really a problem as all hard drives spin down after 10- 20 minutes when not in use, whether your computer is on or off. Leaving the drive on is fine, shutting it off manually is fine.

My mac is running 10.4.11. I know it's out of date, but when I try software update, it says my software is up to date.  I'm assuming this is the reason I can't update my iTunes and thus also can not sync my iPhone to my iTunes.
I saw another question similar and someone responded that you would need to PURCHASE the next update. Is that true? And if so, that's terrible. Please tell me there are downloads available for me so that I can update my operating system and then update my iTunes.

  • TS1367 Hey. My iMac screen comes on but it won't let me type my user name in. I first thought the batteries were done on the keyboard or Magic Mouse but they are both flashing. Cam anyone help

Can someone help. My iMac screen comes on but won't let me key in my details. I first thought my batteries were done but the light on the keyboard and Magic Mouse are flashing. My user name appears but I can't insert my password

Paul_31 is correct.  The problem is almost certainly a Bluetooth connection issue.  The flashing green lights mean that a connection cannot be established.  You want steady burning green lights.  Using a wired keyboard and mouse will allow you to troubleshoot that issue.  A quick check would be to see if your "problem" keyboard and mouse can connect to another-different Mac.  If they can then the issue is in you computer but if they can't (and I suspect that will be the case) then the problem is with the keyboard and mouse.

  • Equium M40X-189 wont start up - Power comes on but blank screen

When powering on Laptop the power light comes on and the power supply fan comes on but nothing to the screen.
Then shuts down sometimes or blue power light stays on, then eventually turns off.
So frustrating, have no money for new one for daughter or to pay for an expensive repair, praying its a easy fix (but deep down no this will not be case).
Any help will be really appreciated.

Try reseating the Memory (RAM). Or if you recently installed more RAM, remove the extra module

  • Pavilion G2-b27SA Laptop Won't Boot - Fan Whirs and Hard Disk Light Comes On but Nothing Else

    Hi
My Pavilion G2-b27SA laptop won't boot. The fan whirs, the hard disk and wirless lights come on but nothing happens on-screen and the fan goes quiet after a couple of seconds (to a low whir).
I've gone through and tried the solutions in this thread - http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-e-g-Windows-8/Laptop-will-not-turn-on/td-p/102825 - with no luck. Specifically, I've tried a hard reset and hitting F10 when the laptop tries to boot. Neither has had any effect.
Is there anything else I can try to get the computer working again? If I take it to a laptop repair shop (I'm out of warranty) will they be able to do anything, or is it effectively dead now?
Thanks in advance for your help.

The laptop can always be fixed if you have a bottomless wallet. On a no-start with flashing lights it is likely the motherboard and a motherboard replacement if you have the shop buy the board and bill you for labor will be about $300 give or take 25%. Before we give up, it could be bad memory or a few other less expensive things. Assuming they do not charge too much just to diagnose it; take it to the shop.

Some people have said to try Disk Warrior, but at $100 it's quite expensive maybe fix.  help!

You likely need to reformat the drive which will destroy all data and you need a backup to restore it. If no backup is present then a data retrieval service can be more expensive than DiskWarrior. There is software that can rescue the data but I can not vouch for it's effectiveness as I have always maintained backups. .

Assuming that you're using squirrelmail for webmail, make sure you've got SM configured properly. In terminal, do:
    cd /etc/squirrelmail/config
    then
    ./conf.pl
Check in section 2, under domain. You might want to hard code this as your mail domain name, and see if that fixes your problem.
