Mail comes in, only mail on same ISP goes out

I'm not sure if something changed on my mail preferences or if this is a ISP problem. I can send email to people on the same ISP, but no one else. Never had any problems for the last 3 years until now.
Also, would like to know how to get previous ISPs off of my mail preferences. Running Mail 1.2.5.
Thanks in advance!

it may be a setting but im not sure which one, whats your isp?

  • I have sent a file to the trash bin. When I come to empty the trash bin everything goes out except this one particular file and I get a note saying the file is 'in use' but it is not. How can I delete this file from trash?

    I have a Macbook Pro with OS X Lion 10.7.2. I have sent a work file to the trash bin along with many other files. When I empty the trash this one particular file remains and I get a message that this file is still in use. I have tried returning the file to my documents, opening it, closing it and then sending it to trash and again I try to empty trash but the same message comes up - Q - How can I trash this file permanently?

    First just try logging out and back in.  Whatever is holding on to it may not be running after the logout thus freeing it so you can trash it after logging back in.
    You might also try Trash It!

    Resolving such issues can be complex. It is important to recognize that you've done nothing wrong.
    The bounces occur because your ISP has chosen to subscribe to a blocking list maintained by one of several such services. In your case, BigPond is querying the Trend Micro MAPS RBL list each time it receives inbound smtp transactions, and for some reason, addresses or address ranges assigned to .Mac mail for such traffic have been added to this MAPS RBL.
    BigPond can do nothing, really, but sever its link to MAPS, and is highly unlikely to do so. Beyond reporting the issue to Apple as indicated above via .Mac support using the web form located here, there is really nothing you can do. It is up to MAPS to remove the block based upon a request from Apple.
    This sort of relative stupidity occurs quite frequently. We have chosen to use the services of spamhaus.org to limit SPAM on our internally operated mail server, and face the same issue with mail originating through domains maintained by T-Mobile, who has unfortunately found themselves on the Spamhaus PBL, or policy block list. I haven't been able to locate someone at T-Mobile responsible for resolving the issue, so mail originating outside our domain via T-Mobile HotSpots or the T-Mobile cellular data network—traffic that is legitimately relayed through our server to users outside our subnet—is blocked.
    While I generally applaud the efforts of SPAM blocking services like MAPS and Spamhaus, I am beginning to believe that the unintended consequences of their services negate the value they otherwise provide. And, they operate with impunity and are unwilling to talk to affected users or notify sanctioned providers on behalf of affected users. They simply add the offending addresses to their many block lists, and leave it to others to correct what they see as a violation.

  • Sending mail thru external ISP, authentication problem

    Hello all,
    i have a little problem that im sure some of you can help me fix. I have a mail server running on a Xserve G5 with 10.4.6. It runs on a local (private) network, mails a polled with fetchmail. Everything works fine except that i can't send mails thru my ISP. Heres what the smtp protokoll says:
    May 4 08:56:58 mediatelserver postfix/smtp[3231]: 94CD148774: to=<[email protected]>, relay=smtp.serverkompetenz.de[81.169.163.72], delay=0, status=bounced (host smtp.serverkompetenz.de[81.169.163.72] said: 550 Anmeldung erforderlich / Authentication required (in reply to MAIL FROM command))
    Due to the fact that my ISP doesn't support SMTP AUTH or TLS, i have to authenticate with plain user/password. My question is, how can i do this?
    Heres the postconf -n output. I've done some "testing" on it

    I see the problem, as we had exactly the same problems. We have a XServe fetching the mails from a ISP with POP. The clients however connect to the Xserve with IMAP. There are clients with 7GB of mailbox size. So, once more: that is the recieving and hosting part.
    If the client sends a mail, it sends it with SMTP to the XServe. But then: why to SMTP to the ISP instead of SMTP to the final destination directly? This has nothing to do with the client, because in both cases, the client connects only to the XServe.
    So: deactivate this checkbox "Alle Nachrichten über diesen Host weiterleiten" and have fun!! At least: give it a try.
    cheers

  • Exchange 2013 - Mail left at ISP-how to retrieve

    Using Exchange Server 2013 for about 2 months with both roles on one server.  Anti-spam is disabled and we have no other spam filters presently. We have the default connectors for Sending and Receiving via MX records. Our ISP (Time Warner)
    host our email. We began to notice some emails had not been received for a couple of our 10 users, so we logged into the web interface for the mail box of just one of our users to check if anything was in the Inbox. Sure enough, there were actually several
    emails over that 2-month period that the user never received. We have not checked other users yet but suspect that they have emails left there too.
    1. It seems that if our Exchange Server doe snot Receive the emails, they remain at the ISP. How to we determine why this happened? What should we check in our configuration, etc.
    2. How do we retrieve the mail now setting at the ISP in the user's Inbox? We use Outlook 2013/2010 as email client for users.
    Thanks!

    We are not using POP.
    We are using SMTP with default send/receive connectors.
    Perplexed as to why the mail, if for some reason, could not be received by our Exchange Server, that it would go to the ISP server.
    How many MX records should we have if we just have the one Exchange Server? Right now we have (3): Our mail.domainname.com point to our Static IP of exchange Server:
    Seems like if the first MX record is not available it goes to the second or third?  Should we just have one to force it to wait?
    Looks like most of the mail left at ISP is Spam but not all. Also, it does not appear that our Exchange Server (Internet, router) was down this many times -very random dates times on missed emails.

    I have the same situation as you - sending out pdfs of designed pages and wanting to overwrite them continually. It used to happen on an older version of Mail, then it disappeared and now it's back with the latest version.
    It's more than annoying, it's downright driving me nuts. In the last hour I had to quit Mail seven times.
    Please send a fix for this Apple.

  • Mail pinwheel just keeps going and going

    After sending an email to hotmail.com the Mail pinwheel just keeps going and going and I keep receiving these massages (Delivery Status Notification (Failure)) with the same date and time. I delete them and they just keep on piling in the trash folder untill I decide to Delete them.
    Text in the messages says:
    The following message to <[email protected]> was undeliverable.
    The reason for the problem:
    5.1.0 - Unknown address error 550-'Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable'

    If they have already been removed from the server, you may be able to get rid of those messages in Mail doing Edit > Cut (⌘X) (for best results do it with one message or just a few at a time).
    If the problems persist, you’ll have to get rid of the *.emlx files associated with the offending messages and re-create the index.
    Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
    The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
    After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, and making sure that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), here are two alternative procedures that should allow you to fix the problem. Let me know which do you find more convenient and/or works better for you:
    <hr>
    PROCEDURE A
    1. Select the offending messages in Mail.
    2. Copy the following script, open /Applications/AppleScript/Script Editor, paste the script there, and click Run:
    set theFileList to {}
    tell application "Mail"
    set theSelection to the selection
    repeat with aMessage in theSelection
    set aFileName to (id of aMessage as string) & ".emlx"
    copy aFileName to the end of theFileList
    end repeat
    end tell
    get theFileList
    A list of the *.emlx files associated with the offending messages should appear in the script’s Result pane (and in Script Editor’s Window > Result History).
    3. Quit Mail.
    4. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down. This is where all your mail is stored.
    5. In the Finder, go to the ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/ account folder.
    6. Move Deleted Messages.mbox to the Trash if there is nothing to be preserved there.
    7. Locate the offending *.emlx files within INBOX.mbox’s Messages folder and move them out of there, e.g. to the Desktop. You can open the *.emlx files with a text editor to view their contents and check that they do indeed correspond to the offending messages before getting rid of them.
    8. Go back to ~/Library/Mail/, locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see an Envelope Index-journal file there, delete it as well.
    9. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index — Mail says it's “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
    <hr>
    PROCEDURE B
    1. Quit Mail and make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down. This is where all your mail is stored.
    2. Open Mail.
    3. Create a new custom “On My Mac” mailbox.
    4. Select the affected account’s Inbox in Mail, then select all the messages it contains (Edit > Select All (⌘A)) and deselect the offending messages by Command-clicking (⌘-click) on them. That is, select all the messages in the mailbox except the offending ones.
    5. Do Message > Move To, and select the mailbox created is step 3. That is, move to another mailbox all the messages that should be preserved and that are stored in the same mailbox as the offending ones.
    6. Quit Mail.
    7. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see an Envelope Index-journal file there, delete it as well.
    8. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/. Move INBOX.mbox and Deleted Messages.mbox to the Trash.
    9. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index — Mail says it's “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
    <hr>
    Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user's home folder.

  • How do I stop Mac Mail from sending an unauthorized "out of office" message to a few, not all, my associates

    How do I stop Mac Mail from sending an unauthorized "Out off Office" reply to several, not all, of my associates emails?  Only happens with me.com mailbox, not Earthlink.  Am not getting some important e-mail from brokerage and business associates.

    If Earthlink is unaffected it is probably a settimg in me.com.  Log into me.com account in a browser such as Safari (will get icloud.com) and select the settings (gear) icon bottom left, and then click on the airplane icon. Make sure vacation setting is unchecked.

  • Mail set up also resends out old emails

    I have an Outlook.com account that was originally an msn.com account that I've just redirected to Mac Mail. The msn/outlook account is 11 years old.
    When I hit "Get Mail" it is downloading all inbox emails from my server, which I expected. But it is also for some reason resending old emails, starting from 11 years ago. I stopped the process until I can figure out how to avoid this. The emails are not showing up in my Mac Mail sent folder. I'm not sure where they're coming from or how to stop them. I only know about it from two people who received these old emails from me.
    Can anyone explain this and how to avoid it in setting up Mac Mail?

    Okay I found out some more information about the emails that are being sent out.
    There was one point where someone set up Mac Mail to temporarily retrieve the business emails for a photography business, and put in an automated responder with an out of town notice. Something about the responder didn't work ~ it started responding to old or deleted emails, something like that. So the rule was deleted, the photography email account was deleted and all of the emails were deleted from Mac Mail. But something unusual is happening ~  it looks like that out of office response is being sent out now as my Outlook emails are being imported into Mac Mail. These appear to be the emails being sent out now. The sent mail is not appearing in my Mac Mail Sent folder, but it is appearing in my Outlook Sent folder.
    Is there any way to clear Mac Mail out completely, from the Library folders or somewhere that is not in the application itself? Or can I reinstall it somehow to clear out this old glich that seems to be still stuck? How do I get rid of these back end issues?
    Thank you.

  • Cannot move junk email to Bulk Mail folder in Yahoo, greyed out

    I've searched but so far no luck.  Ever since I added my two Yahoo email accounts on my iPhone 4, I cannot seem to send junk email from my inbox to my Bulk Mail folder, it is greyed out.  First off, I've confirmed that the Bulk Mail folder on my iPhone is the same as my Spam folder in Yahoo mail on the desktop.  I can see the same emails in both folders.  Anyone have the same experience and found a way to correct this, or is this just a Yahoo limitation?

    I am having the same problem, but I'm not very clear on how to follow the steps.
    went to my yahoo account in IOS;
    hit edit, hit "new mailbox" at the bottom right corner of the screen;
    entered a name;
    below that, it has "Mailbox Location", I opened it;
    it list all my personal folders, I am stuck here.
    How do I "point the mailbox location to the Bulk Mail folder", as instructed? Am I missing a step?
    This is for iPhone 4S, with the latest released version. Thank you!

    Jane,
    From what venues are you experiencing this failure -- home or cafes? In a few cases, the ISP will simply NOT allow the use of SMTPs other than the one they provide. In those cases you have no choice but to use the SMTP provided by your ISP as the Outgoing Server, even in your .mac account.
    With that background, please review your problem and what you have tried. I tried to review your other posts, but I think you need to provide me a summary, as I have to run now.

    I have reinstalled the display adapter drivers also the problem remains same

    Hello
    Have you tested an external monitor on the notebook?
    If the external monitor works fine it seems to be an internal display issue and must be replaced.
    Are you running the factory settings on your notebook or have you installed your own Windows version? Before you go to an authorized service provider you should restore the factory settings to determine if its a hardware or software problem. With the factory settings all should work properly and if not in my opinion its a hardware problem.
