Mail Connection Doctor displays mirror accounts

I recently upgraded my DSL service. After the upgrade, I was unable to send mail through Mac Mail. I eventually got my mail up and running (though I'm not even sure how), but while troubleshooting the problem with Mail Connection Doctor, I discovered that I have two "mirror" email accounts. The first lists the account name as my name (which is how I have my email account configured). The second lists the account name as "mail.(me).com," which is my outgoing mail server. I only have one account -- it's a POP account through a hosting company (my own domain). If I open mail / preferences / accounts, I only have one account listed, so I can't simply select the second, superfluous account and delete it. The second account only appears in Mail Connection Doctor -- not in my preferences. I'd like to delete it because I think it may be causing some of my problems, but I can't figure out how to do it. Thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

Txs, Jim, Your suggestion put me in the right direction. Under the preferences, I first set every outoiung mail server to "none" using the pop-up window. After restarting Mail.app, the problem persisted!
Next I edited the outgoing mail server list, *removing* all superfluous mail servers. After restarting again, the Connection Doctor only gave results for the only remaining account (the gmail one): a check for the incoming mail, and a second one for the outgoing mail server.
So, thanks to You, I resolved this problem.
Unfortunately, I had to remove all info of the outgoing mail servers of the disabled mail accounts. Let's hope I can remember them when in the future I slhould have to re-enable them.

I can receive mail but can't send it from Mail 3.5. Same problem on a wired G5 and on a wi-fi MacBook (using the same account), so not hardware related. Worked fine 'till today - I didn't change anything in between times. Incoming mail no problem. Tried mail rebuild, keychain first aid, deleting the account, repair disk permission - doesn't help.
Mail's connection doctor says "smpt.xxxxxx - connection to server succeeded, no login required."
    Anybody any ideas? Thanks, N

Been having the same problem for a few weeks now. This has been working just fine, and all of a sudden - nothing. The update to 10.5.6 didn't do anything to fix this either.
I've spent numerous hours on the phone with the Apple support. Seeing as the two other accounts that I have configured work with no problem, they say that this is a problem with the provider which is also the ISP. I then called the support line for the ISP and informed them of this and they say that it's a problem with the software.
Interestingly, if I send a message to somone with the same ISP, the message will go. But I can't send a message outside of the provider. Does anyone else have this problem?
Also, from another forum, they suggested rebuilding the LaunchServices database. The Apple support didn't see what that would do. But I tried it anyway and the problem still exists.
Another intesting thing is certificates. It's only happened twice, but I've received the message saying that Mail can't verify the certificate XXXXX which validates the identity of the smtp. Anyone else get this? I thought perhaps I could delete the certificate and it would magically reappear. But when I go into KeyChain, the certificate is listed only under System Root and I can't delete it.
    ideas?

  • TS3276 Mail Connection Doctor says: "Could not connect to Apple Server's STMP. As Verizon is my ISP is this the right STMP? If yes, how do I connect to Apple Server

When using Mail Connection Doctor two error messages come up with regards to sending and receiving mail from my @mac.com account.
The first one says that my @mac.com account: "Could not connect to this MobileMe IMAP server." How do I fix this? Is this caused by the way I have set my preferences? Is this related to joing iCloud? Or my ISP Verizon the problem?
The second one says in reference to my Apple Server: "Could not connect to this STMP server. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the Account perferences. Also verify that the server supports SSL. If it does not, deselect the "Use SSL checkbox in the Advanced tabe of Account preferences." This box was not checked.  Two days ago these problems did not exist.  Again, how do I figure out who to discusses these problems with?
    Feedback is most welcome.

  • Where do you edit the MAIL connection doctor in 10.10.1

    Current OS is 10.10.1
    Product is MacBookPro3,1
Not able to send from email account (Telus.net) but able to receive.
Account deleted and reinstated but no difference in sending success.
Connection doctor shows multiple Outgoing Server settings which I believe are causing the
failure to send but I cannot find any way to edit the file or remove the duplicate or just plain wrong servers.

Thanks for the help however all that window shows are the Outgoing mail servers being queried. There are two of these outgoing mail servers that are not needed at all. I believe that the two addresses w the red dot in front of them need to be removed from the list of available servers. How do you find the file where these addresses are coming from? When I look in the outgoing mail servers (when editing the servers), the ones with the red dot preceding them are not listed as even being available but when the Con Doc is run, they are obviously loading from somewhere.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks

  • Mail connection doctor not working on Mavericks

Hi, I recently switched from OS 10.7.5 to Mavericks.  I travel alot and often face poor internet connections, and I have come to rely on the connection doctor in Apple Mail. But since I switched to Mavericks, whenever I open the connection doctor, the buttons for the accounts NEVER turn green, even though they are obviously connected, because mail is being sent and received.
Any thoughts on how to fix this?

  • Mail Connection Doctor is lying

    Have been having problems sending messages through a SMTP server, others are ok but this one;
The other servers I tried greets with EHLO, this one old fashioned HELO.
Obviously from the log below, the connection and handshaking completers, even the initial HELO is being sent.
But it just sends QUIT after receiving the 250 response (ok), and lies to me that it could not connect.
I tried this with unencrypted SMTP as well, the same problem.
(SMTP works on the iPad and iPhone with exactly the same settings to the same server)
This has been going on for a while now.
Doesn't Apple have enginners that werent born when the ancient, and simple, SMTP protocol was introduced.
Do you even test your software against Sendmail (8.14.5/8.14.4, or others)?
A junior software developer implements a SMTP cleint in a few days.
    OS X 10.8.5, Mail 6.6 (1510)
    Gosh.

Yes, it is obviously a connection check.
Mail makes the same SMTP prologue when sending, decides that the server isn't up after the successful handshake and marks it bad, refusing to use that server for outgoing messages.

  • Yosemite Apple Mail - Troubleshooting - Connection Doctor

    hi to all out there,
Apple Mail under Yosemite OS X 10.10 (14A389) can be a pain ...
    #1 Connection Doctor :
there is this fine 'OS X Mail: Troubleshooting sending and receiving email messages' here
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/ts3276
look at it, the image, the second in particular, next following ''Tip: If you see a spinning gear in Mail or the Mail Connection Doctor, choose Window > Activity to learn what Mail is doing.'
Take a look at the 'Account Name' column.
it looks quite similar on my macs apart from the fact that i detailed, for quite some time and quite some Apple Mail versions in the past, the accounts with -- to me --meaning-ful names, such as 'gbacc1(at)gmail.com', etc.
in apple mail prefs, and sys prefs, i thus could always spot what accounts and providers i employed when using the same entry for 'Description' and 'Email Address' in Apple Mail preferences account tab. (it too had advantages in the past when i did dirty finger jobs by tweaking the mail library, see below)
the apple mail preferences window may read :
#1 Account Type : Google IMAP; Description: gbacc1(at)gmail.com; Email Address: gbacc1(at)gmail.com; Full Name : ....
#1 Account Type : Google IMAP; Description: gb2acc(at)gmail.com; Email Address: gb2acc(at)gmail.com; Full Name : ....
#1 Account Type : Google IMAP; Description: acc3gb(at)gmail.com; Email Address: acc3gb(at)gmail.com; Full Name : ....
the apple mail 'Connection Doctor' window reads
'Status' column /green, or /red dot
and the 'Account Name' column 'Gmail' with the Account Type Column entry = 'Gmail SMTP' and the 'Details' = 'Connections and Loging to server succeeded.'
however, if something went wrong, the 'Details' entry may read 'Could not connect to ... checkbox in the Advanced tab of Account preferences.' (and the Status dot = /red)
as can be seen there is nothing to be seen, well, not any detail on which one of the gmail-accounts it is that causes problems
neither the 'Show Logs' nor the 'Show Details' yields any help/detail
in my case, there also is an odd issue with some accounts in 'Connection Doctor' being entitled correctly ('Account Name: gb2acc(at)gmail.com') whereas others, according to the simplified example list above, are merely assigned as 'Account Name: Gmail') ?¿!¡
it would help if one could identify, clearly, from the 'Connection Doctor' what account works and which one doesn't. that would be a working doctor, in my books. right now, it looks as if the doctor lacks some skills ...
#2 apart from experiencing these problems with AOL, and gmx, with that evil windows live crap accounts too, and gmail, the Apple Mail.app tends to ask over and over again and again for passwords (receiving, or sending mail). that is very annoying. in previous Apple Mail versions such issues were overcome with re-building mailboxes completely (eg. deleting the envelope-files) but these days it is really a big pain getting work done with Apple Mail --- i really hate (after having, eventually, received more or less all emails) that Apple Mail might ask me again for my passes when trying to send  replies ?¿!¡
that 'Connection Doctor', and the 'Activity Window' do leave me with sort of a placebo-like win-crap info which delivers no info.
mebbe i grew very old and me memory (for that sake, me intellect, to be precise) fades but did we have such in os 6, os 7, or even Tiger and Leo ?
methinks it got worse with SL and beyond ... but then again it may be just me -(
btw. concerning posting & editing pop-up/pop-in : 'You have included content in your post that is not permitted.' is not of great help whence no details on 3vil l3tter-combos are given, methinks ...

another issue not noticed before : tho i have all notifications set OFF, and all automatic 'check for new messages', Apple Mail can't be stopped in (a) sending notifications for some but not all accounts (out of a sudden it started) and when fired up it checks for some (aol accounts) automatically.
no way to turn it off.

  • Apple Mail Connection Failure

Suddenly I'm getting an alert that my inbox isn't connecting with several accounts.  This just happened today.  My mail is, in fact, downloading. Checking the connection doctor my SMTP accounts are working explaining why I'm getting/sending messages.  But the 2 google POP accounts show connection failure.   When I open my accounts list, the accounts that ARE connecting are not listed (SMTP).  What gives and how can I clear the connection error and get the Doctor and Accounts list to be consistent with one another?

If you've activated 2-step verification, you need to generate an application-specific password in your Google account and enter it instead of the login password you use on the website.

  • Mail Connection Problems after latest Maverick Update

My macbook pro contains the latest OS Maverick update (12/17/2013) and I am still having mail connection problems.
Several times an hour the mail app is dropping the mail connection on all my accounts. I have to sign in to all my connections each time the connection drops. Does anyone think of a solution to this problem? Anyone else still having this problem with Maverick Mail connections?
    Thanks

Same problem here. For a couple of weeks, I've had an error message that my accounts can't log in. I've gone thru the account prefs and made sure all settings are correct and set to Apple's suggested settings. Also getting double messages sometimes. Not all messages, but one or two will be doubled. This happens on my iPhone and Mac's. If I scroll the window the double message disappears.
Also had lots of errors that mail can;t be deleted. I go back and delete the message again and it goes away.
I kinda feel like this is Mavericks related since these issues were not happening under ML.

  • TS3276 Mail account set up. Can not receive mail-Everything is green in Connection doctor but when checking activity it shows stop signs.  Was able to receive mail until last week  then all of a sudden stopped receiving mail but no changes were made.

My mail account has been set up and working to send and receive mail for several months.  All of a sudden I can not receive mail.  The connection doctor shows all green lights.  No changes have been made and nothing has been changed on preferences on IMAP and SMTP.  I can send mail.  My other accounts all send and receive mail.  When you click on activity the list shows stop signs. All accounts show that they are online.

    UPDATE:
I deleted all the messages off the server of the offending email address and everything works fine now.

  • HT204053 My connection Doctor says its connecting to I-Cloud but the SMTP sending accounts are not merging correctly! What do I change the settings to to merge my mail.me accounts across to this?

    Hello,
Yesterday under sufference I moved across to I-Cloud from my Mobile me accounts.
I had a deadline of 30th June to merge my email accounts or they would of ceased.
In order to remain compatible I also bought the Lion OSX platfrom which was upgraded from Snow Leopard.
I have moved all my .mac and .me accounts across to I-Cloud and the Connection Doctor recognises them to allow email to be downloaded,
but its seems when the SMTP part of the loggin tries to connect its booted off the mail server.
Im know that I have probably not managed to merge across competely to I-Cloud successfully and wondered if any one can please tell me the
setting I need to change under the mail preference account profiles to ensure this will work correctly.
    Thanks
    Denise

Hi Roger, Thanks for your suggestions. Do you think in fact that I could delete the SMTP part of the mailservers. It appears that they are dedundant as it now says it used Icloud only?
    Thanks

  • TS3276 My yahoo.co.uk e-mail account has stopped working on my iMac.  Connection doctor states that my connections are OK.  Help.

My yahoo.co.uk e-mail account has stopped receiving new mail.  I have deleted the account and reinstalled but after receiving a few new e-mails it has stopped working again.   I cannot delete mail and my 'sent' box is empty.   I can access Yahoo mail via the web but would like to continue using Mail.  What setting should I use (my son had a look at the problem and may have altered some specs).   Connection Doctor indicates I am connected OK.  Any suggestions?

well, everything appears to have resolved itself. Let me put this down in case it is of use to other iphone/gmail types.
    1. apparently I must have had either a lot of different computers/devices accessing gmail at the same time and it locked me out. As sailman says above, what precisely is locked out is a mystery, but in my case it was my pc/outlook, my apple mail 4.1 and my iphone. Web access worked fine
    2. when i ran the https://www.google.com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptcha command I had to do it on both my pc and my mac and eventually they came back up. The iphone was last, and took at least 24hours
    3. one thing that google doesn't communicate well is that you can sync your contacts and calendar by setting the iphone up via an exchange account, i.e. http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=138740 . Then you need to set up mail separately by adding it as an "other" type of account - i.e http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=77702
