Mail connections after account deletion

Hi all
I'm observing a 'strange' behaviour in my mail application.
Several times ago I had an email account; later on, no more useful, I canceled it from the mail account list.
This happened more or less 2 months ago.
Today, due to the fact mail got some connection problems during new mail check process, I tried to deepen where these problems occured, and I discovered it was due to this old (and canceled) email account.
Can anybody tell me why this happens and how I can definitely cancel this email address from the account list to be checked up by mail ?
Thanks in advance
Luca

Deleting a mail account causes all your mail stored in that account’s mailboxes to be removed from the computer as well, and you were warned that this would happen by the following alert:
Remove Account
Are you sure you want to remove the <AccountType> account "<AccountName>"?
This will permanently delete the account setup information, mailboxes, and messages from your computer. Messages stored on the mail server will not be affected. For IMAP-type accounts, this is not a problem because mail is stored on the server. If you deleted a POP account, however, your mail has certainly been wiped out from the computer, not just moved somewhere.
To prevent that from happening, you should have moved your mail to custom “On My Mac” mailboxes instead of leaving it in the account’s mailboxes. Actually, using the account’s Inbox and Sent mailboxes for archiving purposes is a bad idea regardless.
If you don’t have a backup (which you should have made before doing something like that), you may try to salvage as many deleted .emlx files as possible with a data recovery tool such as Data Rescue II or FileSalvage. Of these, the only one I know for sure that can currently recover deleted .emlx files is FileSalvage. Stop using your computer right now if you want to try that, as anything you do with the computer may cause the deleted files to be overwritten.

  • Email still Forwarding after Account deletion

We let go of an employee over a year ago, at which time I set up a email forwarder in Workgroup Manager. We now have deleted this user account, but email is still being forwarded when email is sent to this user.
Anyone have any idea how I might fix this? Or anyone having the same problem. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Paul
I used the following instructions under OS X 10.4 and it work a treat...
Deleting OS X 10.4.x Server mail users
This documentation is based on a Mac OS X 10.4.x Server install
Before the proper steps can be taken to delete a mail user a onetime change must be made to the imapd.conf file.
Open /etc/imapd.conf via your favorite text editor. (I like using BBedit over SFTP connection).
The first line of the file should contain a list of admins, and you should see cyrusimap in there already. You need to add the shortname of an administrative user on your
server to the end of that list. IMPORTANT: You must also enable mail for this administrative user. I added the admin user that I create whenever I setup an OS X server.
    It should look like this:
admins: cyrusimap, admin (be sure to separate user short names with a comma) **save the changes, and they will take effect immediately
The next set of steps will be used for the actual deletion of the mail user and its mail data, and is dependent upon having direct access to the terminal on the server itself or ssh access from a remote machine. You will use the shortname of the administrative user entered into the imapd.conf wherever you see admin.
    1. In the terminal type:
cd /usr/bin/cyrus/admin/ (do not replace this instance of admin with your administrator short name)
su admin ./cyradm (this may prompt you to enter your password for the admin user)
    2. Now you're in the Cyrus Admin terminal and your prompt should be: cyradm>. Now we need to tell the Cyrus Admin tool which server to administer, so type:
connect localhost (this will definitely ask you for your admin password, it may also ask for an IMAP password, which is the same)
    3. Now your prompt should be: localhost>.
Use the lm command at the prompt to show you the list of user mail folders.
Before you can delete a user's mail folder(s) you must give your admin user permission to access and delete the user's mail. Let's say the user I want to remove has a shortname of testuser, you would type:
sam "Other Users/testuser" admin all (this will give admin permission to testuser's mail folders and sub mail folders)
dm "Other Users/testuser" (this will delete testuser's actual mail folders and sub folders from the filesystem)
exit (this will leave the Cyrus Admin terminal and your normal command prompt will return)
    4. In the Server Admin tool goto Mail -> Maintenance -> Accounts and verify that the deleted user no longer exist in the Accounts list. You may need to press the Refresh button before the account deletion is viewable.
    5. Now you may delete the user from the Workgroup Manager.

  • Exchange Passcode requirement won't go away after account deleted

I have a personal iphone that i have my business exchange account. We implemented a new policy to have passcodes on phones. I deleted the account off my phone and the policy for passcode is still on the phone. How do I remove this policy? I do know the passcode.

You'll have to restore your phone as a "new" device in itunes and NOT from backup. Follow this by syncing your content back to your phone.

  • IOS 8.12 Apple Mail for Exchange Account Deletes Message from Server

Both my computers are set to leave Exchange emails on the server, but I can't find how to set this on my iPhone. So, if I happen to first open a message on my phone, it's no longer available when I open Apple Mail on either of my computers. I need the messages on my iMac and MacBook Pro--not just on my iPhone. How can I change the settings on my iPhone so that Exchange doesn’t delete messages once they're downloaded to the phone? Thanks in advance for any guidance you can offer. --Bill

Thanks, Glenn. I get as far as the Advanced Settings screen, and there are 3 items for choices:
    • Use SLL - on
    • Move Discarded Messages into:
      Deleted Mailbox - check
      Archive Mailbox - not checked
    • S/MIME
      S/MIME - off
I don't see how I can choose to NOT delete messages. (I'm assuming that the Move Discarded Messages into: Deleted Mailbox is a setting to tell iOS 8 what to do with a message that I choose to delete from my iPhone.)
    Any further guidance?
    thanks,
    Bill

  • Issues with Mail Connection in iOS6

I have a weird issue that's been plaguing me since I upgraded to iOS 6.  My company hosts its mail using an Apple Mail server running 10.5 (yes, outdated, we know and are migrating to Google).  I used to have no problem connecting via IMAP to my mail account on my iPhone 4.  I upgraded to iOS 6 and was receiving an error that mail could not connect to my work account.  I deleted and re-added the account and it seemed to work until a few days later when the issue returned.  I did a restore on my phone and again all seemed well.  About two days later I upgraded to an iPhone 5.  I migrated my data to it from my latest backup in iTunes, done the day prior (day after my restore).  Everything was peachy until a week later when I began getting connection issues in Mail.app again.  I deleted and re-added my account, this time it didn't work.  I restored my phone, it worked...for another week.  I began getting connection issues again.  I've now found a reproducible pattern and horrible work-around and am wondering if anyone else is encountering this.  Here are my steps:
Mail.app starts telling me it cannot connect to my account.
I delete the account and reboot the phone.
After reboot the account IS BACK.  Seriously, it comes back after the first reboot 90% of the time.
I delete the account again and reboot my phone.
I verify the account is really deleted and re-add it, then it will work for about a week.
Ever so often when I reboot that first time the account appears to be deleted.  If I re-add my account then it will not connect, I have to delete and reboot and if the account appears there again then I can delete it a second time and it will actually work when I re-add it after reboot.  Sound confusing?  It is.  One time when I rebooted my phone ALL of my mail, contacts, calendar accounts deleted.  That was awesome.
Am I all alone here?  Do I have to totally restore the phone without restoring from backup?  Since I've been using iOS since the first iPhone that latter answer is definitely not an easy one to comply with.  So many things I'd have to re-download and configure.
Thanks for any help you can provide!

Okay everyone! I struggled with this problem for a long time, and I was just about to send a complaint to Spotify when it worked for me! See, I did a little different than before; this is the list I was going to file:
"1. I open Spotify from the application menu.
    2. I choose "Online" mode.
    3. My phone asks me how I want to connect to the Internet.
    4. I pick "Easy WiFi".
    5. I choose my WiFi network from the list.
    6. Application seems to be signing me in.
    7. My phone asks me again how I want to connect to the Internet.
    8. I repeat the procedure. Spotify can't connect with WiFi.
-I have tried to connect using other WiFi networks, didn't work.
-Before I updated last time I could connect without problem.
     -I can connect using 3G.
-I can connect using WiFi in other applications than Spotify, for example Opera Mobile and the native browser.
-I have reinstalled the application without difference."
However, I did it a little different, which made it work: instead of choosing "Easy WiFi", I choose my network directly from the list: see attachment. I never thought of that I could do so and I can't remember I did that before the update either. I have now synced my tracks and the app seems to be a little buggy, I still hope for an update, though it now works at least. Sometimes it crashes.
Please, tell me about if this worked for you and if you have other, better solutions. This isn't good enough, I still seek a better way.

  • TS3276 Cannot delete account in mail connection window

There is an older email account that has spinning wheel that does not stop.  I tried deleteing account in preferences and it no longer shows up there, but it is still in mail connection and it prevents me from sending mail.  How do I delete it.  I need real simple instructions I'm not very sophisticated.  Thanks

I just recieved a large download from Apple. It corrected my email sending problem. Thank you Apple.

  • After 10.5.5 update, most of my Mail accounts deleted

After doing the 10.5.5 update, I go to Mail, and all but one (my dot Mac) of my business email accounts were deleted. The program asked me if I wanted to see what was new. But actually I wanted to see what was old, like all my important emails. Hundreds of them. The lifesblood of my work. All gone. The only thing preserved was my dot Mac, excuse me, MobileMe account mails.
My smart mailboxes were still there, with many items listed in them, but they were not in my Inbox, and when I selected one, the content area was blank.
Mail Created new folders called "Delivered" and "Delivered 1" but these were empty.
Trashing the prefs did nothing. Repairing permissions did nothing. How can I get my accounts (9) and old emails back?
How on earth could a software update destroy so much important stuff? Does Apple test these things before releasing them?

I had a similar problem with a gmail account. I used data rescue II costs $99 and was able to recover all e-mails that had got deleted.

  • Trying to send using Apple mail program after installing Mavericks; Keep getting box "iCloud Cannot connect to account iCloud". Entering password restores mail but why should  I have to do this?

Trying to send mail via Apple's email program (not iCloud off web page)  after Mavericks show pane "iCloud cannot connect to account iCloud". Entering p/w restores mail but why should this be happening?

While I am no fan of Best Buy and would not buy a lightbulb from them I doubt you issues have anything to do with your iMac and more to do with your lack of experience and simply getting bad advice. Judging by you post I suspect you have loaded your computer down with a lot of crapware and that  has caused it's problems. For example running antivirus apps on a Mac not only is a waste of time, it's a waste of money, system resources and will eventually create more problems that it solves. Please begin educating yourself on the subject by reading Thomas Reeds articles on the subject, Thomas is a frequent and knowledgeable contributor to these forums. You can find his webpage at http://www.reedcorner.net/tech-guides/
The good news is here are absolutely no, zero, zippo viruses for OS X. There are other types of malware available (for example trojans) however they differ greatly from viruses in that the use has to download and install them, whereas viruses do not work that way. OS X is not like MS Windows and is extremely secure.
My suggestion at this point would be to clean your computer of the crapware (including antivirus apps) however before doing so please download and install EtreCheck and post its report. Then we can see how your computer has been configured and begin to give you some advice on the next steps.

  • Mail cannot connect to account on my iMac

Mail was working fine until my mail provider at optusnet reported that my mailbox had reached 100%.
After I deleted all the email in my optusnet account I couldn't connect to my account on my Apple iMac.

Make sure you can still get into it on the web.  Make sure the account still exists.
look up the correct server settings for them in Google search.
Backup if you have any On my Mac folders.
Delete the account. (Mail, Accounts, "-" )
    Restart Mail
Add the account back. But when you type the Address and Password, instad of hitting Create, hold down alt key and hit Next.
Check the settings while you add the account back.

  • Mail Connection Doctor displays mirror accounts

I recently upgraded my DSL service. After the upgrade, I was unable to send mail through Mac Mail. I eventually got my mail up and running (though I'm not even sure how), but while troubleshooting the problem with Mail Connection Doctor, I discovered that I have two "mirror" email accounts. The first lists the account name as my name (which is how I have my email account configured). The second lists the account name as "mail.(me).com," which is my outgoing mail server. I only have one account -- it's a POP account through a hosting company (my own domain). If I open mail / preferences / accounts, I only have one account listed, so I can't simply select the second, superfluous account and delete it. The second account only appears in Mail Connection Doctor -- not in my preferences. I'd like to delete it because I think it may be causing some of my problems, but I can't figure out how to do it. Thoughts?
    Thanks in advance.

Txs, Jim, Your suggestion put me in the right direction. Under the preferences, I first set every outoiung mail server to "none" using the pop-up window. After restarting Mail.app, the problem persisted!
Next I edited the outgoing mail server list, *removing* all superfluous mail servers. After restarting again, the Connection Doctor only gave results for the only remaining account (the gmail one): a check for the incoming mail, and a second one for the outgoing mail server.
So, thanks to You, I resolved this problem.
Unfortunately, I had to remove all info of the outgoing mail servers of the disabled mail accounts. Let's hope I can remember them when in the future I slhould have to re-enable them.

I'm sure someone will give more detail, but it looks like the server blocked your address because it thinks it's a spam source.  If you're not spamming, then it might be someone on the same network spamming, or malware on your computer doing it.  Or it could just be a mistake.  try calling whoever runs your mail server and see if they can give you more information.

  • Mail cannot connect to account....

i keep getting this message sometimes a couple times a day ?
"mail cannot connect to account ..."
and i have to re enter my password everytime?

Sometimes this problem can be cured by tidying up the Keychain, where login info is stored. You can do this by opening Keychain Access in your Utilities folder. Find the location and login info for the mail account. Delete, say, all but the most recent one. Does that fix the problem?  If not, go back and delete even the recent one. When Mail asks you for your login stuff, give it, then check the box which says to store it in the keychain.  Sometimes just doing this last step is enough to clear up the annoying login windows.

    Hello Surjanto1,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! It looks like you are having issues with the email account setup on your MacBook Pro. Let’s see if we can troubleshoot this in an attempt to resolve the issue.
I’ve verified your settings with our Mail Settings Lookup Tool and it looks like everything is correct. Since the issue persists, let’s try using the Connection Doctor as outlined in this article:
