Mail constantly is synchronising with server and updating cache directory!

Mail constantly is synchronising with server (sent messages) and updating cache directory making everything slow.
I have a .mac account. I understand the concept of IMAP and that it information is stored on the server therefore it needs to update but surely not constantly and besides the blue bar sticks halfway through without completing. Please help.

I have had the same issue. Rebuilding fixes it temporarily, but it comes back....Also have an issue where Mail will not download attachments automatically. They show up in grey until they are clicked...have Mail set to download all messages and their attachments, but it doesn't want to. Very frustrating. I have begun the switch to Entourage, which is unfortunate, as I like Mail more.

  • Mail stuck with "updating cache directory"

I've been getting bit by Mail getting stuck with "updating cache directory" on just one of my three IMAP accounts (separate providers). Gmail and MobileMe are fine, it is just with FuseMail which uses Microsoft Exchange servers. I have finally found something that may point to the problem:
    http://www.theexchangeguide.info/exchange-server-clients/2011/28/apples-mail-app -with-exchange-2007-via-imap-or-owa.html
    Folks,
Azaleos has now spent 6 months working with Microsoft on this issue.
The diagnosis appears to be that significant changes were made to the IMAP protocol implementation in Exchange 2007 that significantly deteriorates the performance of MAC Mail.App clients, especially client with large mailboxes, against Exchange 2007 vs. Exchange 2003.
Although the Microsoft support team’s response has been absolutely exemplary, we have been unable to make the Exchange development team understand the significance of this takeback from Exchange 2003, nor been able to have them implement fixes in the Exchange 2007 stack to address the issue.
More significantly, we have also received absolutely no response from Apple regarding the deficiencies of the MAC Mail.App client, nor even any acknowledgement of the problem. In fact, from the complete lack of response we’ve received, Apple has an absolutely abysmal Enterprise support capability and far worse than anything we’ve experienced from Microsoft.
At this time, Azaleos does not recommend that customers who have significant MAC Mail.App implementations with sizeable mailboxes (in excess of 500MB mailboxes) upgrade from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007.
We are recommending to customers that they do upgrade to Exchange 2007. But, that any users of MAC Mail.App move immediately to Entourage or to an e-mail client that implements a solution that is less than 10 years out of date.
    Thanks,
    Keith McCall

I'm posting this both as a reference for others and as a question to see if there is a way to resolve this as a customer, other than dumping FuseMail for a non-Microsoft house?
    Thanks!

I finally had to get FuseMail to "reset the IMAP flags" on their end and everything seemed to resolve itself.

  • I am having all kinds of trouble with itunes and updating my ipad. when I open up itunes, it seems to just sit there, never going to itunes store. when I connect my ipad, I check update and it starts, but then I get this message:backup can't be saved on

I am having all kinds of trouble with itunes and updating my ipad. I open itunes up but it doesn't do anything except open to a blank screen. I try to access the itunes store but it won't go there. When I connect my ipad, and try to update it, it starts and then I get a message that says backup cannot be saved on this computer. I have tried everything suggested to no avail. This is the 2nd or 3rd time I have had problems with itunes. Sometimes I even get a message that I am not connected to the internet.
I have uninstalled and re-installed. Any help?

You might not have enough space left on your hardrive.

    Hi jeffmbellucci,
If you are having issues dragging music to your iPhone 4 after a recent upgrade to iOS 7, you may want to verify that the phone is still set to "Manually manage music and videos." You may find the following article helpful:

Agathe.texier which copy of InCopy are you downloading and installing?  Do you receive any specific error messages?  Finally what operating system are you using?

  • "updating cache directory" runs forever in Mac Mail plus other ills

Running 10.9.2 on MacMini with 16 gb ram.  Mail version 7.2.  Using SpamSieve
Using my IMAP account...which has 3450 messages in the combined five folders for five different mail accounts.   The folder having the problems below that are folder specific has 2000 messages in it.
Activity shows "Updating cache directory"  "evaluating message x out of 256"  Oddly, the number is usually 256.  It runs through 256 and then starts over again, on and on.  It eventually stops.
It also has great difficulty deleting mail.  I delete it using Erase Deleted Items. Deleted mail is delivered again and again when the app goes to the server.  Often it is Spam that I have deleted after SpamSieve put it in the Spam folder (which is "On my Mac").
I often have the "Can't move mail to x folder".  When I rebuild, it fixes that, but the problem comes back in a day or so.
The appd fails to pickup all the mail unless I Take All Accounts Offline and then go back online.  Even then, it finds more mail if I Quit mail and then immediately restart it. And sometimes when I do that it brings back mail that I recently deleted.
If I use Show Deleted Messages, after I delete, the headers still show up in the Inbox, but themessages are unavailable (which is to be expected).
I have deleted the preference folder in Mail library before and it simply redownloaded everything, but didn't change its behavior.
Wisdom would be appreciated in how to fix these issues.
    Thank you, in advance.

  • Could KM's documents be synchronised with Outlook or a local directory

    Dear Experts,
I wonder if KM's documents could be synchronised with Outlook or a local directory. My customer found it very important and I know that Sharepoint synchronises with Outlook.
    Is that possible?
    Thanks in advance.

    Still have problems:
    When I tried to connect
    -http://<server name>:50000/irj/go/km/docs/documents/Public%20Documents/
    Here is the error message:
-Server says: Not found (status code 404)
When I tried to access the directory in IE.
    - It shows :
The folder you are looking for has no displayable content.
You can try one of the following:
Access the folder using the Navigation user interface.
Access the folder as a Web folder. Your operating system and browser dictate whether or not this will work.
When I click on "Web folder". It doesn't work. However, Navigation user interface shows the right contents
    Thanks in advance for help.
    P.S.: SAP Version: Netweaver 7.01 SPS 6.

  • Sent Messages are constantly synchronising with server. Mail so slow!!

Whenever I open Mail, the Mail Activity window displays thousands of messages incoming which takes forever and slows down my computer. Also the Activity window shows it's constantly Communicating with Server (Sent Messages) Fetching. It never seems to complete this action and so slows everything down. If I let it run and run overnight I still see this message in the morning.
I have a MobileMe account but it used to be a .Mac account. Is the computer getting confused between the two I wonder?
Please help, I've searched the forums for similar issues but nothing has been resolved. I'm going mad!!

  • Mail constantly crashing since 10.5.8 update

Mail has been unresponsive since the 10.5.8 update. I have sent six crash reports just today. I first noticed the problem when I tried to search for an older email. First, I get the beach ball, and then when it finally does start searching, it doesn't find any mail - even when I search for something I know is there - and the search Entire Message option is grayed out.
I have rebuilt all mailboxes, with no improvement; then I deleted all of my accounts and tried using only my MobileMe account, with no effect; and removed my old preferences so I could start completely clean, with - you guessed it - no results.
I don't seem to have any trouble receiving or sending mail, but obviously I'd like the search to work, too

I was first alerted to the problem when several people sent messages to the effect of "why have you not replied to my message?" - when I had. People are not getting my sent messages. I tried to send message to myself and have gotten none of them. My outgoing mail server is my local ISP in Jamaica, mail.cwjamaica.com. I have never had any problems in the past. My Mail worked perfectly until a few days ago when my Mail was updated. When I send mail, everything appears fine on my end, but messages are not getting out. If I use my ISP's webmail, I have no problem sending messages, so I know the problem is between my outgoing server and Mail. It used to be that when I sent mail, there was a drop down where I could select different servers. This is now gone, but I have checked the settings in Preferences and all appears to be correct. Thanks Ernie!

  • Mail in continuous "Synchronizing with Server" (all mail, not just Mail.app)

Since upgrading to 10.9 Mavericks, Mail (Apple) continually syncrhonizes with the servers. I have a plethora of folders stored via iCloud (IMAP). When it gets to the end, there's a short lull but, if I do anything else, the process starts again. (Viewable via Mail's Activity Window (Cmd-Opt-Zero).)
It always synchronizes of course, but it used to be in the blink of an eye, and (seemingly) not each and every folder.
I thought it was a Mail only issue, but I downloaded Airmail from the Mac App Store to give it a whirl, and the problem is the same: it synchronizes with the server continuously. As with Mail, when it gets through with the last folder, there's a pause, and it starts up again.
When it was assumed to just be a Mail.app issue, it was one thing, but now it appears its a universal mail issue. I've done some research, and I know Gmail users are feeling the pain, but I don't have Gmail -- my only account is my mac/me/icloud one.
Some have suggested it's a bug with Mail, but wouldn't my issue with Airmail rule that out? Others have posted that the issue is with Spotlight and how it indexes mail messages for search. (FWIW, I've unchecked "Mail & Messages" in Spotlight but it doesn't seem to have helped the issue.)

I don't know if this is the exact same problem.  I sync my Gmail and my iCloud mail accounts on the Mail program.  Since upgrading to Mavericks, whenever my Mail program is being used, it is constantly notifying me about VIP mail in my mail box -- over and over again, the same mail items. It's annoying, and I assume this pointless activity is also affecting performance at the margins.  How do I shut this off but still get notified when I get NEW mail from VIPs?

  • What's with apple and updates?

What's with Apple and the latest updates?  They are really messed up!  with ios 8.02 and 8.10 updating via itunes, (itunes 12.0.1.26) has screwed my iphone.  The update fails.  The restore won't go since it wants a password, which on a defaulted iphone, *there is none*.  Now I'm stuck with out being able to restore my iphone and it's at factory default for mail and such.  Screwed!  What's the point of backing up your iphone if you can't restore it?  Apple?  ****!

Because that is the most recent version of Opera that the developers have issued to the Mac App Store.

  • Obtain drivers from MS-Server and updates from WSUS

    Hi,
is there a possibility to obtain drivers from the MS Server and the "other" updates from the WSUS-Server?
We have workstations with Win7 and XP and pluged in devices (USB) should obtain the drivers (if available) automatically from MS-Server.
Obtaining drivers through WSUS is not an option.
The Group Policy "Computer Configuration\...\Windows Update" is set to obtain updates from "intranet Microsoft update service location".
Should there be no possibility to distinguish between driver and update obtaining locations,
then is it possible to set WSUS as primary obtaining location and as secondary the MS-Serve?
    Greets,
    Emmanuel

Like I mentioned before I tried to use this:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753091.aspx
    1. Try:
    Step1:
I uninstalled the device and deleted the driver of my testing device. (local)
    Step2:
I have created a new GP on Server 2003R2x86 (AD/DC) and linked it in the OU where my test-PC is located.
    .../ComputerConfiguration/Administrative Templates/System/InternetCommunicationManagement/Internet Communication Settings/TurnOffWindowsUpdateDeviceDriverSearching-->disabled
    Step3:
I restarted the test PC with a logonscript: "gpupdate /force"
    Result:
    It didn't work.
    2.Try:
Same procedure, but instead of creating the policy on the '03 Server, I created the policy with RSAT for W7.
    Result:
    It didn't work.
Now I have a new question:
Isn't the above mentioned policy for this?:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/automatically-get-recommended-drivers-and-updates-for-your-hardware
I ask, because this is exactly the setting that has to be changed so that everything works the way I want.
(at least for the Win7 PCs. I don't care much about the XP-PCs because they will be replaced in the near future)
Well one option is to change this setting manually on every PC, but this would be a huge PITA.
Can this be done in a policy or with a script (registry?)?

  • Synchronisation between server and local systems

    Hello guys,
I hired a Vserver running with Debian and would like to synchronise it spaced (after/before start/shutdown of my local systems and in between every 30 minutes or so) with my local systems, more precisely with my home directories or some directories I define and not the complete system.
How could that be realised best?
Should I take some programs or are there any small scripts as well that do that work?
I apologise for that stupid question but I have not any experiences with issues like backup and synchronisation.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hello tkdfighter,
sorry but I can't follow you. Could you please be more detailed because I don't know how the functions you speak from can help me in my case.
Basically I just have that problem because I synchronise the server from two different machines and so the archive name differ from machine to machine. I already took a look on the Wikipage but unfortunately it helped me not with that problem.
