Mail counter problem

Mail thinks I have 1 unopened message in my Inbox, and this appears in the red circle in the dock and in the header of mail, next to Innbox. In the actual list of emails, however, none have a blue circle indicating an unopen message. I have re-opened all my emails in my Inbox, but this changes nothing. This is annoying rather than vital, but can anyone tell me how to clear this?

It's your home folder, the little house icon. Here it's shown in my Dock, but you should see it in the sidebar of any Finder window.
Finder>Preferences>Sidebar>Show these items in the sidebar.

  • Mail 2.1.3 has counting problems and crashes a lot

This isn't the most crucial of problems, but an annoying one that I've found no answers to elsewhere on the forums.
Every time I get mail in my junk mail folder, say there are 14 new junk mails, I select them all or delete them one by one, the mail counter still says there will be 7 new mails in the junk mail folder. Once you select to return to the junk mail folder it goes away after a second. Not all that bad right, except fairly often after this, Mail 2.1.3 will crash. It's done this for quite awhile and the Update Packages haven't corrected it. On the flip side my work computer (G5 iMac) and laptop (G4 iBook) don't have this problem.
Recently I had to do a disk repair on my startup disk because it had miscounted the number of memory slots (I think that's the term) there were, and it caused the whole computer to shut down at random. The problems seem similar I guess, maybe somebody out there knows a thing or two about this.
    Thanks

Hey David, again thanks for all your help. Sorry, for the delay I've been slammed at work, but such is the life of a public school teacher.
As for checking the folders for strays, the answer would be no. I had 6 new Junk mails, I deleted them all at once, and 3 still remained, but in the Junk.mbox folders, there was nothing. Here is the info from the Crash Log, it seems like a lot but I think I did what you wanted.

  • HT6030 Unread mail count still doesn't work for any mail accounts after installing the Nov. 7 Mail fix. I deleted Gmail from my Mac Mail so that's not the problem.

I still cannot get an Unread Mail count in the Dock even after installing the the Nov. 7 Mavericks update. I deleted my Gmail account from my Mac, so I know that's not a problem. I checked the Mail preferences, and thay is configured correctly. Any suggestions?

Point noted re multiples posts [ there were loads of  typos in previous]   . Your previous reply  may indeed be one way of  solving my problem. Thanks .
Nevetheless  why does Apple prodcue "updated " software which isnt properly comptiable or tested;  with the result that it   now  doesnt work well with Gmail when the prevoius version worked fine. You would think an update  would at least work with Gmail as  well as the prevsoius version did.  G mail is  very widely used, so they, Apple,  and probably  Google too are  shooting themselves in the foot if they can't make the software compitable,

  • Mail hang with multiple pop accounts and invalid new mail counter

    All
More than a year ago, I migrated all email accounts from Outlook to Apple Mail using O2M application. I have 2 pop accounts and gmail account. Everything worked fine for a few month but then Mail started to hang during message receiving. It did so very often (4/5 times). When it does, nothing will revive it except a "force quit".
I tried to fetch email from each account individually, that worked well every time. After I was sure that it has to do with getting new mail simultaneously, I tried everything to fix it. I tried to reconstruct all the mail boxes, I tried using only 2 boxes with all combinations (1 pop 1 gmail, 2 pop, etc) but nothing worked.
I even tried to export all my mail boxes, then delete everything from Mail then reimport them with no luck.
In addition, a couple of months later, my "Inbox" new mail counter started to sometimes displaying the wrong new mail count. It displays 2-4 new messages while there is none. In order to be sure, I created a smart mail box to have only new mail and it had none. By simply switching to any other folder then returning back to Inbox solves the problem.
    Can any one help?

Make absolutely sure that your email addresses and configuration are correct. In nearly every case I've encountered, this is the problem.
If you've confirmed this, make sure you're configured properly on your webmail account, if you have one. Webmail is something like ATT, the source of your internet.
If you're still flummoxed, play hardball. Make sure you have all your current account info and passwords, and delete them in Mail/Preferences/Accounts. Then, reenter them one by one until they're perfect. This makes sure your settings are consistent and correct.

  • E-mail counter for POP3 account has gone negative

When all e-mails are read the e-mail counter shows "-1/0".  Anyone else have this problem?  Is there a fix?

Yeah it's just an annoyance really.  It now says "-2/0", while my empty deleted items folder has a 2 next to it.  Weird.  I noticed an e-mail dated Dec 31,1969 just before it went to -2.  I always delete everything anyway since all messages are saved at home, so I suppose I could delete the account and set it up again.

  • How can I show my mail count that I have saved in my folder when entering my mail box?

I want to display my overall mail count when I open my mail. Even when I saved them.

Firefox doesn't do email, it's strictly a web browser.
If you are using Firefox to access your mail, you are using "web-mail". You need to seek support from your service provider or a forum for that service.
If your problem is with Mozilla Thunderbird, see this forum for support.

  • ICloud new mail count badge not working in Mail v 5.2 Lion but is working in Mountain Lion on other machines

I've upgreded 2 of my 3 computers to Mountain Lion, and all seems fine on those 2 machines, but on my older Mac Pro which is not compatible with Mountain, I'm having a problem where the new mail count badge is not showing up either on the iCloud mail box or as part of my total in the dock count badge.  New mail badges is showing up for my other mail boxes, just not iCloud.  I've removed my iCloud inbox, and have re-enabled it and it's still not working.  If I had the problem right at the time I installed Mountain Lion on my other 2 computers, I didn't notice it, so I don't think this problem is related to Mountain Lion on my other machines.

    Glenn,
Regarding adding and deleting the System Drive from the Spotlight Privacy Tab...... I'm following your sequence, but when I come back to Spotlight Search in the menu bar it just works the same.... no mention of indexing. What's interesting is that "Mail" dosn't appear anywhere in search results when a keyword search is performed via spotlight.
Regarding the "enevelope Index Files" ..... I followed the instructions and quit and re-opened mail as instructed.  When I re-opened Mail I selected "continue" and the program began to index the contents of mail for about 30 minutes.  I thought that would would fix the issue, but it's still not working.
I've tried to compare the account setup from my IMAC which works fine to see if I have something setup wrong in the account, but everything looks the same.
I guess I can try to re-index again?  Don't know what else to do?
    Thanks,
    Bill

  • Junk Mail Counter

I cannot get rid of the Junk Mail Counter in my main Mail window ( Mail boxes on the left). It shows only next to my forwarded Yahoo junk mail box and keeps creeping up, and up and up ( 53 at last count). Is there a way to reset it to zero or to zap it? I have try everything but reinstalling Mail to get rid of that annoying problem. Thanks in advance for your help.
Mac Mini Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   French Version

Sorry about the imprecision in describing the problem with the Unread Junk Mail indicator. I am indeed referring to the unread junk mail indicator ( next to the Junk mail box) which I cannot set back to zero even after after using the Delete Junk Mail command in the Mailbox menu. It only shows up on my Yahoo forward mail account. Any help will be welcome. BTW this problem does not show up on my other Mac ( e-Mac and iBook G3).

  • No mail count next to Inbox

    hi all
i am using mail to retrieve mail from my gmail through its IMAP server
    Things are pretty well before,
but recently i found that there is no more mail count number next to the Inbox, indeed there are new mail count shown on the gmail - "All mail"
although it is not some serious matters, but it is a bit strange, so any idea to solve it out?
will it be related to my iphone 3G, since the problem seems started after i sync my iphone

I am having the same problem....I never realized how much I look at that number. I have a gmail account set up with IMAP and it doesn't show the number there, When I set up the gmail account using POP it shows it??
I have no idea what the issue is but it is really frustrating.... any help would be great.....!

  • Ios 7 flagged mail count is 25695 but there are no messages in flagged mailbox

There are no messages in this iPhone in any of the mailboxes (including trash) yet the flagged mail count is over 25000, and  the mail app is using over 2.6GB

  • Mail Server Problem

The mail server problem has been resolved, mail is working as designed....yeah!!

silly discusting board, I've got 3 replies in my email but it's not showing here ...
anyway, this time I found after some chasing my tail .... that the mail preferences had wiped my password and I needed to reinstall it, then instruct it to go online and some other click stuff ....
and it seems to be ok now ....
but each round in past 2 weeks has been different "fix" .... or wait ....
sorry for anyone without master email for 5 days, that's just not right ....
I'm afraid that as apple starts "giving away" email accounts to build the cloud into something much bigger than the mobile me was .... that their folo up will fail and we will find ourselves not with the same apple durability / consistency but with the "hey it's free" attitude ....
    let's see

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • Mail not showing new mail count

Very recently, Mail has stopped showing the new mail count next to the corresponding inbox on the bar on the left side of Mail. There are new emails sitting in the indox but it doesn't show a count. I upgraded to Mavericks and it there were no issues but now this is happening. Any ideas why?

    Incoming_Mail
    IncomingTable_ofContents
Yes, these can also be removed. Tiger Mail no longer uses them. You can confirm this by looking at their modification date. It should be no later than the date you imported your Panther mail into Tiger mail.

  • What's with the new edition of Pages using Maverick?  Google rejects the files  with the following message attached "The reason for the problem: 5.3.0 - Other mail system problem 552-'5.7.0 This message was blocked as its content security threat?

I recently upgraded both Pages 09 (I believe) and went to OSX 10.9 Maverick .... now I am unable to send a pages document to a friend on gmail.  Google rejects the message and attachment with the following explanation -
    The reason for the problem:
5.3.0 - Other mail system problem 552-'5.7.0 This message was blocked because its content presents a potential\n5.7.0 security issue.

    Same Problem here
IWORKS 09    pages, keynote, numbers does not send in MAIL (mac) because of "This message was blocked because its content presents a potentialsecurity issue"
its a problem not only on GMAIL but also Live, Hotmail, Yahoo, and other services...
The problem is that gmail and others haved yet accepted the latest iworks 09 files. its a problem that apple can ask then to fix but its up to the gmail and others to fix it.
    Solution!!!:
1 - Send it by exporting to office files
2 - Saving the files as old iwork documents
3 - Command P and save as PDF
4 - Save in icloud and send the URL
So you can still send them but have to take a bit more of your time
i hope you understand my english is not optimal

JavaMail supports two standard protocols for reading mail POP3 and IMAP.
As explained in the JavaMail FAQ (you found it, right?), the POP3 protocol
doesn't provide information on unread messages.
As far as I know, only Gmail supports IMAP. I don't believe either AOL or MSN
support even POP3, but I'm not sure.
