Mail, craigslist + RSS Feeds

I have yet to successfully add an RSS Feed from craigslist to my mail program. Example feed code:
feed://medford.craigslist.org/search/rid?query=tennessee&srchType=A&format=rss
Acquired by
1. Accessing craigslist
2. rideshare
3. Searching for Tennessee
4. Clicking on the RSS button in the lower right-hand corner
Am I making a mistake or is craigslist being naughty?
TIA,
Jeff

It's been broken for well over a year now

  • Java announce mailing list/rss feed available?

I am looking for a newsletter/mailing list/rss feed about java announcements that is low noise and low traffic.
What I need is a notification as soon as a new patch release of the Java SDK gets released.
For other technologies I use, these are usually the announce lists/news groups. But even after googling and searching in SDN for some time, I could not find such a list/feed for java.
Any hints/pointers to what I am looking for?
    Thanks for any help

It is less my desire to GET the new releases - but I want to KNOW about new releases and the bug fixes and enhancements incorporated.

  • Craigslist RSS feeds in Macmail: "File does not exist"

    Hi all!
When I try to subscribe to RSS feeds of craigslist (and other) searches, I get a circle with an exclamation point which when clicked reads "file does not exist."
The exact feed url being copied to mail goes like this: feed://neworleans.craigslist.org/zip/index.rss
What am I doing wrong? If ya'll could clue me in, I'd appreciate!

  • IPhone /alert/ from Craigslist RSS feed?

Would anyone mind helping me with RSS feeds from Craigslist to my iPhone? I ported to mac awhile ago and this is just killing me that I can't get this to work.
I am using Snow Leopard, Postbox (a Mail equivalent) and I have IOS 5 on my iPhone and I am using Growl/Prowl.
I have been able to get RSS feeds from Craigslist into Postbox and i see them in here as RSS Feeds. However I would really like to get an /alert/ to my iphone.
I have lately been getting ALERTS on my MacBookPro and my MacPro for system processes and I am assuming this is from Growl. I am also getting ALERTS to my iPhone 4 which I am assuming is from how I have my iOS 5 Settings set.
Is there a way to get my RSS FEED ALERTS to the iPhone or to the MacPro or MBP in the same manner as the alerts above?
Thanks in advance for any help!

forgot to mention that the emails/rss from craigslist come from "[email protected]". not sure if that will help solve this but wanted to mention this.
    THANKS

  • Mail And RSS Feeds

I've been seeing a lot of RSS apps on the appstore and on websites. I've read through some product descriptions and they all do just about the same thing: compile feeds.
Mac Mail seems to handle RSS' just fine, and other than having to update the feeds manually it seems to work without any kinks.
My question is: do these other RSS apps have something Mac Mail doesn't have, features, search options?

    Hey,
So, yeah I'd read a bunch of reviews for the different RSS programs and it's after those those reviews that the question popped in my head.
It seems like they all seem to do pretty much the same thing, Mac Mail's RSS included, which is gather the RSS' as they're posted.
The reason I asked was because, already being pretty familiar with how Mac Mail's works, I thought there might be certain features the other programs offered that Mac Mail's did not offer, or that I was not aware of.
Again, after reading through the reviews it seems as if they all do pretty much the same thing.
Thanks for reading over the post and offering some advice.
    Much appreciated

  • Safari vs. Mail for RSS feeds?

From reading Mac Help, I see you can use both Safari or Mail for reading RSS feeds.
As I understand it, the advantage of using Safari is that you have to use Safari anyway to subscribe to and actually read the full articles, so it would seem to make more sense just to use Safari.
However, the advantage of creating a special RSS feeds mailbox in Mail is that you can have all the feeds from multiple blogs appear in a single mailbox as they are posted, instead of having to load up the feeds for each site separately in Safari.
    Is this correct? Thanks.

    Correct.
I prefer to use Mail to manage, and if/when I want more, I follow the link via Safari.

  • Mail RSS Feed Problem

Hello, I've got a problem with my RSS feeds in Mail and it's driving me nuts. I had a number of feeds which were all working properly and suddenly my craigslist feeds stopped. All previous and new feeds still work but the craigslist feeds give me the error "There was an error updating the RSS feed “santabarbara.craigslist.org” - The requested URL was not found on this server."
I thought it might be a problem with craigslist but their feed works fine in my Firefox Live Bookmarks. It only appears to not be working in Mail. It was around the time of the 10.6.4 update but I can't be certain. I'm thinking it could be some sort of cache issue for just that site but don't know how to check.
One of the feeds is http://santabarbara.craigslist.org/med/index.rss
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Rob

When you say you tried Safari & Firefox to read feeds from CraigsList, do you mean just loading the RSS URL's (e.g. http://santabarbara.craigslist.org/med/index.rss ) into the browser directly? For myself, CraigsList RSS feeds don't load in Safari 5 either but it does seem to work via Firefox 3.6.3. I bet this might have been the WebKit (Safari 5) update that broke something.
And yes, my CraigsList RSS feeds broke in Apple Mail too (which is what brought me here). I filed a Radar bug ( rdar://problem/8161076 ) to alert Apple internal people.

  • How can I export RSS feeds from Mail?

I've tried this command line apporach from http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20080319094830396 but it olny lists some of my RSS feed urls (and the output-to-web-browser version dosn't work at all -perhaps cause I've Snow Leopard 10.6.4?)
    Is there any other solution?
    Thanks.

I had to manually 'export' (copy and paste) the RSS feeds by:
Opening an RSS feed 'message' in Mail and then selecting View/Message/Raw Source from the Mail menu bar and then finding url details tagged with "X-Mail-Rss-Source-Url:" and then cpoy and paste them to TextEdit. Loads of fun!
_Tip: Don't use Mail for RSS feeds- ever._ Even if you only have a few feeds. When, overtime your feed list inevitably grows, it is a real pain to move those feeds to a dedicated RSS feed reader.
Use an RSS reader from the very start (like http://www.vienna-rss.org/ or http://netnewswireapp.com/ )

  • RSS feed, repeated password prompts

I experience this issue on both Mac OS versions that I use: Mac OS 10.5.8 with Mail 3.6 and Mac OS 10.6.4 with Mail 4.3.
I want to subscribe to an RSS feed for a blog. However, the blog and RSS feed are on a private, encrypted website. I can successfully add the RSS feed to the Mail program by...
    1) In the "File" menu, select "Add RSS feeds..."
    2) Paste the "feed://......" address.
    3) Click "Add".
    4) When prompted, enter my username/password as assigned by the website.
The RSS feed successfully appears in Mail's sidebar and the contents load.
However, later in the day it starts to fail. An exclamation mark (within a triangle) appears alongside the RSS feed. Clicking on the symbol results in the message below. I again enter the username/password, but later that same day, it will fail again, and again, and again.
"To view this feed, you need to log in to area "Mac OS X Server Web Services" on wiki.chsj23.org:443.
"Your login information will be sent securely.
    "Name: ___________
    "Password: __________
"This password will be stored in your keychain.
    "{Cancel} {Log In}"
    Thoughts?

I do not know if this is a permanent solution, but off-list I discovered something. If I access the associated website, I am of course prompted to log in. I now checked "Remember Me" via that login window, using Safari as my web browser. If I go back to "Mail", the RSS feed now works.

  • How can i add an rss feed to mac mail?

I am trying to unclog my email and cancel many of the news related emails I get each day.   I would like to figure out the best way to still get news sent to me (without having to always remember to check 6-7 websites).  I used to use RSS feeds into my email program (was using outlook).  I cannot figure out how to add an rss feed to show up in mac mail as an email folder on the left hand side of the screen under the mailboxes.
    Thanks.

That functionality is not to be found in Apple Mail for Safari. Your best bet is the brilliant free RSS reader Vienna. Works very well, highly recommended.

  • URGENT!!!! Mail won't display my RSS feeds anymore

    Hello,
I recently deleted a RSS feed but my mail froze. After restarting the Mail app I couldn't find any of my RSS feeds anymore. I thought that maybe I accidently deleted all my RSS so I tried re-adding all my RSS feeds but even that did't work.

  • RSS Feeds won't delete in Mail

I have several RSS feeds coming into my INBOX. Once I read them, I delete them which places them in my TRASH. So far so good. But after I empty my TRASH and go to check new messages in my INBOX, they all show back up as new. Anyone got an answer?

I fear that they are key stroke readers and I want to know how
    to get rid of them.
Having key stroke readers or spyware requires installing spyware. Do these messages include attachments that you opened? Even so, installing a program that is spyware requires entering your admin password.
The account's Junk mailbox may have some corruption. If this email account is a POP type account, do the following:
Quit Mail first and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail > this POP account named folder (named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account) > Junk.mbox. The Junk.mbox within the account named folder represents the account named Junk mailbox under Junk in the mailboxes drawer.
Delete the Junk.mbox and empty the Trash.
Launch Mail and a new Junk.mbox will be created automatically by Mail within the account named folder when the next spam message received is automatically or manually marked as Junk.

  • Mail freezes when updating large RSS feed boxes

This is something I encountered and how I have formulated a work around. I have discovered that Mail will freeze when updating large RSS feed boxes.
A little history. After discovery RSS and how they work, I began building a collection of feeds. They included feeds from many major news providers. Over the years, the number articles form some of these sources went into the thousands.
As my database of articles grew, I encountered more severe and more frequent freezes of the application Mail. I began to take the computer off-line in order to work in these files. But inevitably, a situation would arise that would lead to the Mail application freezing.
Isolation of the issue with Mail and to the RSS boxes within Mail. The freeze would not occur when RSS feeds boxes where collapsed. Also, the freeze only affected the Mail application. Mac OS was not affected and I was able to alway close Mail from with in the Force Quit menu. Also, the Force Quit menu affirmed that Mail was indeed frozen by listing it as also "not responding."
Work around. To resolve this issue, I first choose to remove the number of RSS feed that I had subscribed to but used very infrequently. Second, I choose to delete old feeds from "never" to "every two weeks" from within the Mail preference menu (RSS sub-menu).
I think it took a while for Mail to fully delete messages older than two weeks. In fact, when I began deleting whole feeds, it took some time for those feeds to be removed from my mail box tree. Within the Activity Monitor application, I could see that a lot of disk use was occurring, even though the OS was allowing me to continue to use Mail and other applications.
To assist this process, I took my computer off-line and stepped away from it. Upon my return, the disk use was down to normal, the number of article in many RSS boxes where greatly reduced, and my disk had recovered over a GB of space. Also, Mail seems to be behaving properly, with smooth and quick performance.
If you found this article, I hope the information provided has been helpful! After a quick search in to previous posts, an entirely similar post was not found. However, others are finding the Mail application will freeze, but not necessary for the same reason.

Since I don't want to download any attachments from RSS feeds in Mail.app, is there any way to turn off the attachment download once and for all? I also get the beach ball for minutes when an item has a big attachment, and I fear my HD is cluttered with files I don't use.
