Mail crash when trying to save email message

I installed OS10.5.1 recently and yesterday mail starting crashing whenever I'd try to save an email message ("save as" or shift apple s). Based on one post, I ran a verify and repair disk permissions (from the hard drive, not from the startup disk) but no remedy. The beginning of the crash reports reads: Process: Mail [150]

Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described in the following article, in case there is something amiss in the filesystem:

You’d get better results using Eudora Mailbox Cleaner to do the conversion.
Eudora Mailbox Cleaner requires rebuilding the imported mailboxes in Mail afterwards. Instead of rebuilding them one by one, you can re-create the entire index as follows:
1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down. This is where all your mail is locally stored.
3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see any other “Envelope Index”-named file there, delete it as well.
4. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index — Mail says it’s “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.

    Hello all,
    For the last two days or so, I have been having issues with the mail program. It seems that when I try to check my email (work mail) specifically, mail crashes and doesn't give me any sign of whats wrong. I mean literally nothing comes up, not even the bug submit dialog that usually comes up when a program crashes.
    I have 3 accounts that I check on my mail program but neither of the other two accounts (gmail and aim) cause mail to crash. Does anyone know if there is a log or something that I can look at to see what happened?

    This is a new inquiry. This question and your response seemed most like my situation:
    Mail 2.1.1 often crashes under various circumstances; this time I was replying to an email. (Word and Excel have also been crashing a lot.)
    When I tried to re-open Mail a window came up telling me it had renamed my Draft folder as Delivered. I could do nothing until I clicked OK. The next window told me to create a new account; I couldn't close it and nothing else on screen was active so I filled in the required info. Then a window welcomed me to Mail, asking if I wanted to know about the new features - I ignored it. I just wanted to finish my reply so I opened Mail and found that my original mailboxes (Inbox, Sent, Trash, Junk and Drafts-supposedly renamed Delivered) were empty as were two boxes I'd never had before (Deleted Messages and Delivered-supposedly replacing Drafts). The mailboxes I'd previously added (all have pop-ups that say "This mailbox is stored locally on your Macintosh.") do have mail in them, but a lot of it says: "The message .... has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it."
    My server is Cox and I have a Cox account but I can no longer access it from Mail.
    I hope you can help me. The crash log and terminal info are below.

  • Gallery app crashes when trying to save changes

    After cropping a photo in the gallery app, it crashes when trying to save the changes made to the photo. It does not happen when saving other changes.

    It's an Alcatel One Touch Fire on 1.0.1. But interestingly enough the problem is no longer occurring. I'm still not sure about what caused it. So... I suppose I can mark my question as answered. Thanks for replying.

  • Illustrator CC crashing when trying to save .eps

    Hi,
    I'm trying to save a basic logo file that i have created, every time i try to save as an .eps file illustrator crashes and doesn't save.
    I can save it as an .ai no problem, i don't think its something specific to the file as it crashes when trying to save other files as an .eps.
    I've cleared my .pref file but that didn't help—it still crashes. I'm running OSX 10.9.3 and i don't have another version of illustrator installed.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks for your reply however it doesn't really solve the original question. I am fully aware of the limitations of .eps in fact one of the reasons logo's are usually sent as eps is because it flattens the file, therefore limits the ability of third parties down the production line to change the logo. Also current clients and printers do still specifically request an eps, hence the original question.

    Done everything like repair permissions etc.
    Reinstalled both Logic and OS 10.6 (then updated to 10.6.8)

    I have installed logic 9.1.5 from the apple site and run that, still same problem.. so i have finally managed to get my hands on the logic 9 disc.. it says on the apple site to remove logic 9 from your mac, to simply drag the logic app to trash and reinstall. i did this with 10.6.0 installed and run it and still error. I then combo updated to .4 .6 and to .7 without updating logic still error.. Then i have combo updated to 10.6.8 still error.. finally i installed the 9.1.5 update direct from the site on 10.6.8 and that hasnt worked either..
    My question is, even though on the apple site it says to drop the app to the bin and reinstall, does this remove all necessary files? or do i have to do it manually and if so can someone tell me exactly what needs to go,before i try a proper reinstall.

    Back up all data. Rebuild the named mailbox. Try to delete the message again.

  • Lion Mail crashes when clicking on hyperlinks in messages

    since installing LION, mail crashes when I click on any hyperlink in  email messages.  Interestingly it worked fine for a few days then all of a sudden the crashes started. Tried resetting PRAM; un installed a bunch of 3rd party apps that run all the time, still no luck. Unfortunately you can't re-install mail. Anyone with similar problems? Oh where oh where in 10.7.1????

    Well BD, not only did I not fix my mail, but everything else is messed up.  First I Repaired Permissions which was okay, no problem.  Then I moved the first folder to the Desktop, and I think I moved the wrong Library folder.  Anyway, I tried to move it back and got a message, "there is an older version of this folder, do you want to replace"  I said yes and the message said that I did not have permission to do that.
    Finally, I moved the Library folder into the Application Folder and it stayed.  However, when I restarted my computer, my entire desktop had changed.  The Dock was at the bottom and it has very large icons; my folders on the desktop were no longer lined up, but were all over the desktop.  My hard drive was at the bottom, etc.
    When I clicked on Mail, it opened a window to set up a new account.  Now I do not have any of the folders that I previously had saved under my Inbox, even the Trash is gone; only Sent is there.  Also, Safari and Firefox do not have any Bookmarks.  Safari opened with a "Welcome To Safairi" window.  WHAT ON EARTH HAPPENED?  And WHAT CAN I DO NOW.  I SEEM TO HAVE LOST ALL OF MY IMPORTANT SAVED MAIL FOLDERS.  I am shutting down until I get some help on putting things back right aain.

    Any good repair program to fix my mail, I desparately need it!!!!!

    Me too! I am lucky though, I made a backup of my entire user folder, had a Powerbook G4 go in for it's 3rd Logic Board in a year, but that's another story.
    While my G4 was at Apple Care for 2 weeks, I went and bought a Macbook Pro, imported my backed up User Folder via Migration Asst., which did not work... so copied the User Folder over and added it as a new user in 10.5
    I have 2 problems:
    Mail crashes when rebuilding
    Duplicate emails are downloaded into my Yahoo account
    Checked Mail InBox, it is still 4gigs, so the emails are there, maybe some sort of directory corrupted?

    Never had this problem until I updated the os to the latest security update a few days ago (May 26 or so). When starting up the Mail program I see the screen coming up and before having any time to do anything it just quits on me. Nothing on my system has changed. Any other people having the same problems? Any possibility to just re-install or repair the mail program without loosing any of the data?

    Did Mail start crashing immediately after installing the Security Update or a few days later? It could very well be that Mail is crashing while trying to load a message with bad HTML content.
    1. Launch Mail holding the Shift key down until the main window appears. This should prevent Mail from trying to select any mailboxes or load any messages upon starting up.
    If Mail doesn't crash now, then you know there is a troublesome message somewhere, and you'll have to find it and get rid of it:
    2. Go to Mail > Preferences > Viewing and disable "Display remote images in HTML messages" if it's enabled -- having this setting enabled is a really bad idea for spam-related reasons anyway.
    3. If the preview pane is visible in the main Mail window, drag the horizontal separator bar between the messages list pane and the message preview pane to the bottom of the window, or just double-click within the separator bar, so that the preview pane disappears and only the messages list is visible. This prevents Mail from trying to load a message when it is selected in the messages list pane.
    4. You should now be able to select the message that's causing Mail to crash and delete it.
    5. If you want to make the preview pane visible again, drag the horizontal separator bar up from the bottom of the window, or just double-click it again.

  • Mail crashes when attempting to view emails

    Been seing most thread on Mail Crashing, and have attempted all different possible solutions, but nothing has happend yet.
    I only have one email-account in Mail - gmail, when attempting to view emails, it simply breaks down, and closes Mail.
    Messageview is simply not possible - I can reply on emails, but viewing in inbox is not possible, double-click makes is crash.
    Anyone with an idea?

    Okay, so I just took the plunge and spent the big bucks on Adobe Premier. The first time I go to use it, I open the program and click the 'browse' button to import/open a video file. At that point, I am hit with "Sorry a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Elements to shut down." Thus it promptly crashes. The same thing happens every time that I try to open/import a video file. Really, it can't open a simple file without crashing?!! Outside of asking for my money back, does anybody have any ideas or suggestions?

    Okay, I have to edit my initial problem description. As it turns out, the crash doesn't happen when tying to import media into a project, it happens when trying to save the initial project. So, I open the program and am prompted with a window to name and save my project. I name the project. There's a button to save the project in a desired location. So I click 'save' to show the path and when I do this second task, it crashes. I never actually get 'into' the program. At that point, I am hit with "Sorry a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Elements to shut down." So I am unable to do anything except launch and crash the program. Finally, I get the 'tell Microsoft about this problem' window.
    I am running the program on a new PC that runs like a champion. It is maintained and updated constantly with the newest updates through the company network. It has 199 GB or free space on the hard drive. I'm running the Windows XP version of Premier to match the OS (professional, version 2002, service pack 3). It has a Pentium Dual-Core CPU, E5800 @ 3.20 GHz, 3.19 GHz, 1.98 GB of RAM. I can imagine hardware being responsible for reduced performance but I can't imagine that hardware could be a cause for not being able to even start an initial project. For you experts, does this additional detailed info shed any light on my problem?

    Mail.app crashes when trying to attach a file whose filename has both Hebrew and English characters in it.
    This even happens if the file is first zipped!
    Any temporary solution/workaround until Apple fixes this bug?

  • Mail Crashes When Trying To View Message

    Mail both pre (10.5.1) and post leopard update (10.5.2) is having issues. Essentially it will open and I can see that I have new messages. When I click on the message nothing appears in the viewer, about 14 seconds later Mail crashes. It does this on both new and old messages, as well as the Apple RSS feed.

    As mentioned above, open up Console and see if there are any mail related crash messages. Check the All Messages log and the CrashReporter log for mail. When you open Console, if you don't see a list of logs in the sidebar, click the Show Log List button in the toolbar. You should see two sections. All Messages will be at the top and various log files will be listed below in the LOG FILES section. Disclose the ~/Library/Logs list and look for CrashReporter. Under it you should find some Mail crash reports.
    I had this problem previously, which I fixed by just deleting the offending email. However, in getting the instructions for you, I looked at my Mail crashlogs and found they were all WebCore issues.
    So, I searched these discussions for Mail Crashes and found lots of entries. Some pointed to To Do widget, others listed personal anti-spam by Intego, and finally, one linked to this article. Take a peek through those and maybe one of there solutions will help.
