Mail crashes my web server - too many processes

Just a bit of information for anyone out there who has found their web server having trouble during access by Leopard Mail.
I have 1 computer using Leopard. The Mail app is setup with 5 accounts (i.e. orders, service, accounting, etc.). The accounts are all IMAP. Our website is hosted at Bluehost.com.
Mail starts so many processes accessing these 5 accounts simultaneously (instead on serially one after another) that it maxs out my web server processes and renders anything that needs additional processes such as FrontPage extensions, PHP, etc. unavailable. I'm not sure if the problem is associated with how many or improper closure of processes but I can tell you this. Mail with 1 user breaks my server and quitting Leopard Mail closes all of the processes and restores the functionality of my web server.
Apple...could you put an option in to allow serial access to the email accounts or really look at processes at this is a big problem. Thanks.

Same problem here. You may want to check out the thread "My ISP has blocked my IP address because of Leopard IMAP configuration" under http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5780594&#5780594

    Hello
I've been trying to create a sparseimage file using both the Disk Util app and the hdiutil command-line tool to use with the Time Machine from a network folder. However, both fail with a "too many processes" error.
% hdiutil create -library SPUD -size 1g -fs HFS+J -type SPARSEBUNDLE -volname lala  lala
hdiutil: create failed - Too many processes
I've tried to search for it on Google without success. Is anybody else getting such errors?

  • Continual Mail crashes - possible mailbox is too big?

Mail crashes for me daily, if not multiple times a day. This morning I couldn't get it to load new mail without crashing and giving the error below....
One thing to note is that I have had this Macbook for 3 years and use it 99% for Mail, when I purchased it I imported my old Mac Mailboxes to keep the data from old mail as well. The Mail folder in Library is 8.2GB. If a possible solution is cleaning out the folders - could someone suggest a good way to archive everything so that I can still search for mail if need be? I use that option a lot.
I have tried removing the plist and then putting it back, there is also a 2nd plist (com.apple.mail.plist.0THHeZo) which I'm not sure about.
I believed it to be an address book issue for a while since I have 3,000+ contacts which I need, but even after deleting that plist and re-syncing with MobileMe, it seems the application itself is the problem.

They're all under 100mb except for my Sent Mail folder, where I archive all my sent emails, is 1.45GB but split up in 3 different folders.
I never knew that, though, so I will keep tabs on it.
Is it anything like Outlook where I should just archive more items into separate personal folders to spread things out? Or do I need to move folders off the servers if that is the issue?
Either way, Mail is beyond sluggish. Only one of those multiple email accounts gets a lot of daily email so it's not thousands of messages daily. The Exchange account only works if I am logged in from the office - could it be trying to access that constantly that is killing the memory?

  • IPlanet 4.1 Web Server - ns-cron process hangs for log rotation

Does anybody know if there is a known issue with iPlanet 4.1 Web Server where the ns-cron log rotation process hangs up?
Basically it won't rotate any logs, and using either the "Stop" or "Restart" buttons in the console won't shut it down, so you have to kill it manually, then start it again.
It seems like it will run for a couple days fine, then it will hang up.
    Thanks.

Nope, I've not seen this before. But 4.1 version is really old and no longer supported, you should consider upgrading to a supported version.

  • Can't connect to Server - "too many users" after 10.8 install

After upgrading my Retina MBP, my Air, and my mid-2011 iMac (which acts as a file server) to Mountain Lion, I find I cannot consistently connect to the iMac server. Everything is done over an Airport Extreme wifi network, and there were no issues in 10.7. It usually happens 24-48 hours after a retstart, and a restart will fix it though that is inconvenient. The error given on the machine trying to connect in is "too many users" on the host (the iMac server). Any thoughts?

Me too... similar setup. MBPr, MBP and an old MB with a Mini/drobo as a file server. A reboot fixes it, but that's a pain if I'm not home.
I have noticed that I can usually share the screen even if I can't mount a drive, which helps, but still just another hurtle.

I still can't get my ical server to work despite having followed these instructions (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4024).  I actually get the same results - too many redirects.

In my case the redirects were coming from the wireless router. I hit the reset button on the router and 100% of my redirects have been eliminated for more than 2 months now.

  • No response from web server after a process ran for 1-2 minutes

    Hi,
I have a proven pl/sql code, it took about 2+ minutes to complete in sqlplus.
But when I created a button to process the exactly same code in APex application, the process runs about 2 minutes and
applications bombs with this msg "No Response from web server".
Has anyone gotton this msg before?
    Thanks,
    Julie

    Hi Julie,
See this thread - it may had some extra considerations for you: OHS Webserver Timeout for long running requests
Do you know if your error message is returned at a fixed time each time? You could test this by creating a procedure that sleeps for X amount of time and then vary X to see if you can find a cutoff point for losing the connection.
Also - I assume that your process keeps running on the database, despite the webserver connection being lost?
If it's not a limitation in your httpd.conf file (the default is 5 mins as others have pointed out), then perhaps your network colleagues have set something in your network configuration to kill connections longer than a certain period of time? This is what happened in my case.
    Hope this helps.

  • Collaboration using web server for many pdfs

I manage an online repository of pdfs for multiple clients.  Clients can log in and search all their pdfs by keyword to find what they are looking for and view it in their web browser.
They want me to take this service to the next level by allowing them to comment, highlight, add textbox etc. and save the file back to the web server doing all of this via the web browser.  They also want to locate their comments that they posted (obviously) at a later date.
A big issue is that these clients have 100s of pdfs that are huge files, some containing 300+ pages.  I researched all collaboration choices for acrobat and I think a SOAP repository would work best for my situation.
Before I start a major project, I was wondering if any of you have experience with collaboration on a remote web server (godaddy) for a job of this size.
Does anyone think that a SOAP repository is the best choice?  I am looking for guidance mainly as I have no experience developing in acrobat.
Can I write a program that will allow my goals to be met and work with all pdfs that are ftped to my web server?  I have thousands of pdfs that I manage at the current time.
    Thanks for your help!

What you're talking about is called Browser Based Review and was supported up to Acrobat 8.  In Acrobat 9 this was replaced with the newer and more feature-packed Shared Review functionality.

  • Mail on Macbook Air syncing too many emails!

I have just bought a Macbook Air and wanted to Sync my Hotmail Emails like I do on Iphone and Ipad. Problem is that it is syncing 20,000 mail messages from the last 10 years. I only need it to sync about the last two weeks or last 50 emails or something like I do on Ipad and Iphone.
I don't want to delete old messages on server because they are old work from university and writing Idid when I was younger for various projects, also messages from friends that I want to be able to look back on when I'm older. I also don't want them on my Macbook becasue they will clog it up and I like to keep things tidy, only things in my inbox which are releant to work and play today.
I can't find any option to regulate the inbox sync, only the trash and delete folders.

Hi, I'm sorry. I don't have an answer. Is there an Apple Store near you? The Genius Bar may be able to help. I hope you find a resolution. Seems like a very frustrating issue.  Good luck.

To diagnose problems with Thunderbird, try one of the following:
*Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.
*Restart the operating system in '''[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safe_mode safe mode with Networking]'''. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode Windows 8], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7 Windows 7], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-vista Windows Vista], [http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx?mfr=true" Windows XP], [http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564 OSX]
; If safe mode for the operating system fixes the issue, there's other software in your computer that's causing problems. Possibilities include but not limited to: AV scanning, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates.

  • Safari crashes if you watch too many pictures

I've downloaded safari yesterday just to see. I have to admit it's sure faster than FF 3! However, I was browsing images on Webshots and Flickr for about an hour. All of a sudden safari frozen up on me and had to use the task mgr to force it to quit. At that point, I've noticed that the task mgr indicates that safari is using over 1G (!!!) of memory. What the **** is that!? It seems it cached all the images in memory or something? Still, I got 4G of ram installed and running on 3G with the 3G switch enabled. Having a browser eat up over 1G of ram is just absurd. I am not using safari any more. I liked the speed though.

  • DECODING MAIL FROM WEB SERVER IN PLAIN TEXT FORMAT(THE MAIL BEING SENT BY LABVIEW APPLICATION)

    Hi All
I have a labview application that send mail every hour automatically.
But actually the mail has to be decoded from the web server(by another application). But now when that application decode the data in the mail(that is send by labview application)its getting some funny characters inside that can not be detected by the decoding application
(When open the mail no problem.)But actually our goal is to decode the mail from the web server.
Why the extra characters are appearing when decoding from the server? Is it because of the HTML format?
Is there option to send the mail in plain text format(not like attachment)?
In outlook we can change the setting (tools->options->send->mail sending format->....here we can set as HTML format/Plain Text format)
Like that at the sending time can i chenge the sending option as plain text format in my labview application?
    Thanks...

    smercurio_fc wrote:
Then it sounds to me like this other application is not decoding the attachment correctly, especially if you looked at the attachment yourself after you received it and verified it's correct.
No, no, smercurio. This is charcter encoding here. In older versions of LabVIEW you could specify what character encoding to use when sending an email through the SMTP VIs. But that gave problems since people in certain locales used certain characters that where not transfered right when the wrong encoding was specified, and that encoding stuff is not understood by most people at all, so the wrong selected encoding was rather the rule than the exception. In newer versions of LabVIEW do the SMTP VIs handle the encoding automatically based on the currently used locale on the system.
This change is documented in the Upgrade Notes of LabVIEW and probably happened around LabVIEW 7.1 or 8.0.
A decent mail client will recognize the encoding and convert it back to whatever is necessary before presenting it to the user. The OPs posters server application obviously isn't a smart mail client but probably just some crude text file parser that has no notion of proper mail character encoding and how to deal with it.
I would suppose that there is a chance to dig into the SMTP VIs itself and try to manipulate or disable that encoding altogether in there but that may open a whole can of worms somewhere else. The proper way would be to process the incoming mail by a character encoding aware mail client before passing it to the text parser. On Unix setting up something like this would be fairly trivial.

  • Too many java processes.

    Hi,
I have installed Forms & Reports Services Standalone 10.1.2.0.2 on RHEL 5 and applied the 10.1.2.3 patch to it. After the patch, the java processes continue to grow so fast that sometimes when I open a new session and try to switch to oracle user, I get a "too many processes" error.
Apparently these java processes are from the Reports Server, however I haven't even yet configured the Reports server and am not doing anything with the reports server at the moment. Right now, I'm only configuring the Forms server.
So, I am wondering what is going on here - why are there so many java processes and what to do about it?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Based on dependency better you can go for 3 parellel process at a time as what we are doing in our project.
check schedule time for each your process chain which fetchs data from source system (Info Package) and re schedule them which should not execute at a time (make it max 3) and try again
