Mail delays before sending messages

Since I upgraded to Mavericks, Mail has the annoying habit of no longer sending outgoing messages right away.  Rather they are placed in the que in the outgoing mailbox and sometime later they are all sent. I liked the immediate send better in the earlier versions of the OS.  Is there anyway to go back to an immediate send version?
Thank you.

I have AT&T Yahoo DSL and my imac mail can't send messages. It says the smpt server has timed out trying to send the message on port 25.

Open Connection Doctor in the Window menu
Double click on whatever is showing as red.
    Check the following settings.
    pop.att.yahoo.com
    smtp.att.yahoo.com
Click Advanced to enter the SSL and port info.
Both incoming and outgoing mail use authentication
Use (SSL) and SMTP port 465.
Use (SSL) and change the POP3 port 995.
Confirm the above settings before clicking OK.
    Then check connection doctor again.
There is an incoming mail server and an outgoing mail server for each account.
So for each account there should be 2 servers.
Count how many servers there are set up in connection doctor.

Thanks for your answer. Apprciate it very much. Just prior to receiving your email, I got back online. However, as I had tried what you suggested (and a lot more as I am 'reasonably' competent), and had been so doing since yesterday afternoon, I do believe that what you suggested was correct - that it was my third rate ISP that was at fault.
    Nevertheless, many thanks once again.

  • Mail refuses to send messages--please help

    Hello all,
I am running system 10.8.2 on a newish iMac.  For the second or third time in recent months, Mail can't send any mail, although it can receive mail.  The message I get when trying to send a message is:
"The STMP connection to server "mail.optonline.net" failed.
Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below [note--all optonline.net] or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be sent."
I had not changed anything about my accounts when this happened--no password change, no changes to my settings.  I have restarted the computer to no avail.  I know the SMTP settings are right, because I can send mail from my older MacBook Pro on the same home network.  When this has happened before, it has resolved itself in a day or two.  This time it has been four days and counting.  I tried creating a new account, and that doesn't work either.
Any thoughts?  Thanks in advance for your help!

The SMTP settings are pertinent to the individual computer that they are set on, not on the network.  So you could have the SMTP settings correct on your older MacBook Pro, but they coud still have changed and be wrong on your iMac.  I would double check them on your iMac.  In Mail "Preferences click on the drop down arrow at the right end of the line "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP):".  Especially note the settings in the window  resulting from clicking on "Edit the SMTP Server List",  box shown below:

  • Mail can't send messages: Doesn't allow fix the problem either: Help plz.

    Hi all,
Mail doesn't allow me to send messages through my recent created aim.com account
I'm trying to fix the problem by changing smtp server configuration but it gives me the message:
"The servers marked with alert icons are in conflict and cannot be saved.
Two servers cannot share the same address and authentication settings.
Resolve the conflicts and try again."
There are no icons whatsoever and deleting any similar server won't take effect because Mail WON'T save the changes.
When clicking "ok" to save changes, Mail will throw the same message quoted above. So I have to click "Cancel"
Any idea to solve this issue?
    Thank you.

  • Delay when sending messages in Thunderbird

When I compose a mail message in Thunderbird and click Send, the program immediately finds the server, but hangs for about 30 seconds on the state "connected to mail.ba-zing.com" - the progress bar stops moving, and nothing happens for approximately 30 seconds.  Then, suddenly, the program resumes, and sends the message.  Any idea why this might be happening?  I tested sending messages from Thunderbird on a different computer through the same server and it worked just fine, so I know it's not the server.

Nothing is printed to the terminal when I send a message.  The only thing that is printed to the terminal is printed when the program first opens:
Fontconfig error: Cannot load default config file

  • Iphone e-mail will not send messages

My IPhone receives e-mail but will not send mesages.  I've gone into the advanced mail settings but I don't see any outgoing settings.  Can anyone help me?

Someone at RR told you it is RR that prevents using their SMTP server to send messages with their email account when connected to AT&T's EDGE network?
Did you try using 587 for the server port for RR's SMTP server on the iPhone?
Add 587 to the end of RR's SMTP server address separated by a colon.

  • Apple Mail can never send messages!

I have a gmail account that I view through Apple Mail. Anytime I try to send a message to someone, I get this error.
"Cannot send message using the serve smtp.gmail.com:[email protected]
Use the pop-up menu below to try a different outgoing mail server. All messages will use this server until you quit Mail or change your Network settings.
    Message from : <[email protected]>
    Send Message using: smtp.gmail.com:[email protected]
Options: Cancel, Use Selected Server, or Try Again Later."
Ususally, I click Use Selected Server and it works but sometimes it doesn't. First of all, it should work the first time around and never give me this message. Secondly, even after the second attempt it's not 100% reliable.
    What's wrong?
    P.S.

    Never Mind. Fixed it.
Apple Mail users: At times, Mail may misinterpret your SMTP server settings. If you currently have 'smtp.gmail.com:[email protected]' in the 'Outgoing Mail Server:' field of your settings, please try changing the field to 'smtp.gmail.com' and saving your settings.

  • Why does Mail delay for up to 30 seconds before sending messages?

This did not  happen in Mountain Lion and it's one of a number of annoying new things I'm encountering in Mavericks.
Every time I compose an email and hit "Send" the mail goes into the outbox and sits there for a while - sometimes a long while (up to 10 seconds or more) before it gets sent.
Not only that: I then get a message in "Mail activity" that a much larger number of messages is being sent. Even if I'm only sending one, "Mail activity" tells me that 5, 6, 10  messages are being sent.
Is anyone else wresting with these really annoying issues in Mail?

Double-checking all settings is good. Along the way, one thing to try:
Have a look at your SMTP server settings to see if the port is set to "default" or "custom".  If it is "default" try switching to custom using one of the numbers listed under "default". That fixed it for me on one of my accounts.
(To do all this:  Mail, Preferences, Accounts, Outgoing Mail Server, Edit SMTP server list, Advanced.)

  • Delay between sending messages

Hi, I sometimes need to send 500+ individual emails and just about every time I end up with errors messages, saying "too many messages", "mail server not responding" etc and reading my ISP's FAQ they recommend sending an email a
minute when sending large volumes (500+ is certainly not a large volume, but..), so I've been looking for any rules or plug-ins etc that would enable me to run a email merge, generate 500+ unique emails and then send a message a minute, so with 600
messages it would take 10 hours to send them all. I am using Outlook 2010 (pop3). Thanks

    Hi,
There is no feature in Outlook to schedule sending a message per a minute for lots of messages. We can only schedule sending time for individual messages by using Delay Delivery option in Outlook:
For your cases, please find any third party tools to achieve it. Or we can contact Microsoft Outlook Develoment forum for more suggestions:

  • Mail 8.2 Sending Messages from Wrong Email Account

This has been happening more often than not lately on the Mail 8.2 app. It's driving me crazy, and really messing up my business since I have a professional email (using Outlook) and a personal email (Gmail).
Both email accounts are setup on my Mac Mail. What has been happening is that when I write an email with my professional email (Outlook) and hit send everything seems fine and it will send (like it should!). It shows up in my sent messages in the Mac Mail app under my Outlook account and everything, great!... Oh, but the thing is, it doesn't really send from my Outlook account.
When I log into my Outlook account on my web browser, the email is not shown to have been sent. But, When I log into my Gmail account on the web... What?! There is the message in my Gmail sent folder! How??? It has my signature from my Outlook account and everything. To add to the strangeness, when I look at my Mail app on my iPhone, it says that the email was sent from my Gmail, and not my Outlook...
So, Mail on my Mac says sent from intended email account (Outlook), but in reality it somehow gets magically sent from my personal Gmail account... and shows up on the webpages and my iPhone as sent form Gmail... This doesn't happen every time. Just when Mail feels like it I guess, HA!
This is frustrating. Since it doesn't happen all the time, I never know if people are getting my emails, but I finally got the fluke to happen with a friend. Voila, in fact when this happens even though it's being sent in Mail though my Outlook account, my friend receives the email from my Gmail account with my Outlook signature...
What is going on? Is anyone else having this issue?
I need my personal and professional messages synced to my iPhone and Mac, or I would just say good riddance to the Mac Mail app.
I will just have to start sending my professional messages form the Outlook webpage until this is fixed. This is really unprofessional Apple. I never had this issue prior to Yosemite.
Hope this made since, it's the best I can make of it.
    Thanks!

From the Mail menu bar, select
              Mail ▹ Preferences...
The Mail preference dialog opens. Select the Composing tab from the row of icons at the top. From the menu labeled
              Send new messages from:
    choose
              Account of selected mailbox
Note that this setting may have no effect if you start a new message while a VIP or smart mailbox is selected in the mailbox list. Those are saved searches, not actual mailboxes.
If the problem remains, select the Accounts tab in the preference dialog, then select the affected account in the list on the left.
In the Account Information pane, select the correct server in the menu labeled
              Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
If there's only one server in the menu, select
              Edit SMTP Server List...
and add a new server with the correct settings. If you're not sure how to do that, try the Mail Settings Lookup.
Another possibility is that the wrong card in your address book is selected as yours. Select your card in the Contacts application. Then select
Card ▹ Make This My Card
    from the menu bar.

  • Mail doesn't send messages

Alright. I upgraded to Leopard and now my mail is acting oddly. I can compose a new message, I can "send" it, and mail says it has sent and moves the message from the Outbox to the Sent box. So I was assuming all my emails were being sent. Then I found out they are not reaching their destination. So to try this out, I sent 2 simple test messages to myself (from one email address to the other and vice versa). Mail "sends" the message and all, but I never receive the test messages. I checked the ports in the preferences and they are correct. I receive messages from other people fine, but mine don't send out. Any ideas? Thanks.

I did the same thing because I wanted to see what the new html-ish mail looked like. So I sent a message to my son and cc'd myself. It took nearly 6 hours for the mail to be delivered, but I got it.
Now, I don't believe for a second that that has anything to do with Leopard. Once the mail is out of the outbox, it's really sent - how our respective mail servers process it is all together a different thing. I have had similar experiences while using non-Leopard machines from time to time.
    It is odd, though.

  • BBM and e-mail aren't sending messages after upgrade

I've just upgraded my BBM from 5.0 to 6.1.0.71 and since then BBM isn't sending any message and the mail system isn't working. Appears a red X in the message. I have an internet plan and the browser, facebook, twiter. If relevant, I had some trouble with WhatsApp, but I managed to solve it.
I already tried to reinstall and to pull off the battery. I have a Curve 9300 running OS6.0.

  • Mail won't send messages.

    Hello, all!
So I am new to Mac and having a tiny bit of trouble with Mail. I can receive messages, Connection Doctor says the server is fine, but nothing goes out. I called my ISP as it is their e-mail but I can log into the webmail and send/receive from Outlook when forced to. I guess that proves it isn't the server.
So, I am wondering if there is an update that corrects this problem. I went through the troubleshooting guides to no avail.
Thank you in advance for any help you can offer. The messages I receive are below.
    SadrianaZea
    From Mail:
The sender address [email protected] was rejected by the server smtp-server.roadrunner.com.
Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be delivered.
    From Connection Doctor:
Mail was able to connect to the internet.
Roadrunner Connection and login to server succeeded.
smtp-server.roadrunner.com ; Connection to server succeeded, no login required.
    (There were no details.)

I figured out 2 things to fix my 2 problems:
first, I deleted both POP accounts in the prefs and deleted the com.apple.mail.plist in "users/.../library/preferences/. Then I configured the account again, but not automatically, putting the pop and smtp of Yahoo.de. And here comes the difference (I think): I waited to connect to the server (smtp) for a few minutes - last time I cancelled and than I connected again, making the setup eventually skipping the process of connection, as it changed the window in a snap.
second, I deleted the first message that wouldn´t download, as suggested here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10034980#10034980.
Now I´m happy as I could be, but some things still don´t make sense...
I hope this might help someone else,
    Dani.
