Mail delivery to Public Folders stops when Public Folder database dismounted from old server. Old server to be decommisioned.

I have 2 Exchange 2010 SP3 RU6 servers.  All Mailboxes and Public Folders have been moved from the old server to the new one.  If I dismount the Public Folder database from the old server, delivery to mail enabled Public Folders stops.  I
believe resolving this is the last step before decommissioning this old server and uninstalling Exchange from it.
Before I delete the Public Folder database and/or uninstall Exchange from my old server, what do I need to do to setup routing/transport of email to Public Folders on my new server?
I've used the MoveAllReplicas.PS1 script successfully and believe nothing remains on the old server.  Do I simply need to remove all mail enabled Public folders now with the Remove-PublicFolder EMC command?  Or is it a background kind of task that
automatically updates after some period of time and then messages just start delivering directly to the new location of my Public Folders?

Hi and thanks for your suggestion, but Get-PublicFolderMoveRequest  is an Exchange 2013 command.  I first ran the MoveAllReplicas script, probably a month ago.  I've also used the RemoveReplicaFromPFRecursive script and
still it says that Replicase still exist within the Public Folder Database that I woul like to remove from my old server to be decommissioned.  I've read of other people trying to uninstall Exchange from an old server that have encountered this error,
causing the uninstall to fail.   Get-PublicFolderStatistics -Server "oldserver" | Format-List returns:

Here it shows the size and count are 0 (zero), so I should be good to go.  But, I am unable to remove it due to the Replicas Exist error.
Elsewhere, I found a suggestion to clear the checkmark in the OAB 'Distribution' settings regarding Public Folders, but that didn't help.  I've also seen posts saying to dismount the Public Folders, rename them and when mounting,
take the option to create a blank or empty Public Folder database.  When I did that, the mail enabled Public Folders did not resolve when sending emails.  I had to quick mount the saved copy of my Public Folder database.
So, regarding your suggestion, does Disabling and then Enabling mail enabled folders re-associate or register them with the current Public Folder database structure?
One more thing I found is that the get-mailpublicfolder command returns an error stating a folder is corrupt.
WARNING: The object ci.walla-walla.wa.us/Microsoft Exchange System Objects/Library Vacation Calendar has been corrupted, and it's in an inconsistent state. The following validation errors happened:
WARNING: Property expression "Library Vacation Calendar" isn't valid. Valid values are: Strings formed with characters from A to Z (uppercase or lowercase), digits from 0 to 9, !, #, $, %, &, ', *, +, -, /, =, ?, ^, _, `, {, |, } or ~. One
or more periods may be embedded in an alias, but each period should be preceded and followed by at least one of the other characters. Unicode characters from U+00A1 to U+00FF are also valid in an alias, but they will be mapped to a best-fit US-ASCII
string in the e-mail address, which is generated from such an alias.
I don't see anything in the name of the folder, unless it actually has the " character embedded in it.  But what is also odd is that I don't have a folder called "Library Vacation Calendar".  It may be the remnant of something in the
past of a failed attempt.  I do have a folder called VacationCalendar that the Library uses, and have even exported to PST and recreated without any impact to this problem.  I do not know how to clear this condition, and assume it is responsible
for the Active Replicas error I get when trying to remove the PF database.

  • Merging existing 2013 Public Folders and 2010 Public Folders from different organization.

Following recent acquisition of another company we faced the following situation:
Company A has Exchange 2013 Organization up and running and already using new Public Folders migrated from 2010 when we upgraded.
Company B has Exchange 2010 Organization with their own PF infrastructure.
When it comes to migration, there's already public folder mailbox which was created when first migration occured.
I cant figure next steps to merge those PF infrastructures at the moment, as removing public folder mailbox prior migration is not an option, since we already have big amount of data in 2013 Organization.
Have anyone done similiar task and if so, how did you overcome this limitation?

You're looking at a third-party product.  MigrationWiz does public folders.  There are other cloud-based migration solutions, but I don't know whether they support public folder migrations.

  • Is it possible to access the Public Folders in Exchange 2013 during a migration from Exchange 2007 to verify the files are there?

This is a migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013.  We're in the middle of migrating the Public Folders.  Is it possible to configure a database to point to the Exchange 2013 public folders so I can verify the data before the final cut?
If so what are the steps to do that?  Thanks in advance.

To my knowledge no.  It's an all or nothing thing with public folders.

  • Resources and public folder database - migration from 2007 to 2013

We migrated our resource mailboxes thru the move mailboxes in 2013 EAC but now we're at the point of decommissioning our 2007 servers.  Before the actual decommission we stopped all 2007 services and dismounted all 2007 databases.  Once we did
this the resources would no longer work - errors pertaining to cannot directly book the resource.
I had to bring up the public folder database for the moved resources to work again.  We do not use public folders any longer so we did not do any type of public folder migration.  Do I need to do this for the resources to work?

    Hi,
Could you please tell me your Outlook version?
I saw someone got the following error when he tried to book resource after migrating from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010, if Outlook version is Outlook 2007. But Outlook 2010 worked well.
"Cannot directly book a resource for this meeting."
Please switch between online and cached mode to check the result. And please check if this issue occurs in OWA.
If possible, please use Outlook 2010 to check the result.

  • Duplicate folders seen when viewing a Tiger G5 FROM an OS 92.2 machine

    What would cause this?
When we connect to our Tiger G5 from any OS9 workstation there are 3 folders that show up twice. You never know which is the real folder until you try to open it. The "bogus" folder then dissapears.
    How Come?
    G4 500   Mac OS 9.2.x

Hi Jack... I'm only posting this to relieve the misery of no-one responding with a specific solution...
I don't know an official answer but if everything else about your network really is working that suggests there's something wrong with the folders, the files inside them or the disks they're on.
In which case if my Macs did that, I'd back them up then delete one folder from the host Mac, and another from a client Mac then recreate one from the host and one from a client.
Even before that, do the folders, or their parent folders or child files have odd characters in their names, please?

the scheduling conflict dialog box but am unable to access or switch and cannot confirm that there is another dialog box.
Has anybody else experienced this problem?
    Thanks,
    Julie

I have seen it hang when trying to open a project schedule even with no external links.
Project 2013 Pro, Link to schedule is on a PWA on a Project 2007 server.
If Project 2013 is open before clicking on the link, there is a long delay and the project schedule opens up in the web tab where the link was selected. If Project 2013 is not open, it just hangs and has to be shut down via the task manager.
No idea why. I can create a link to the shared volume and that works OK. But if I actually try to open MS Project by clicking on the link to a .mpp file it never opens in MS Project.

I am experiencing a persistant error -8058 when attempting to copy a file or folder from any windows sharepoints to any other server location or to my desktop or locals. Am I the only one or are the others with the same issue since updating to 10.9?
I have tried the finder plist removal suggestion- unsuccessful

I am fairly certain that would not work for me as that is my usaul manner of mounting shares, smb:// or cif://. The enterprise servers do not automount so I commandK. Yesterday when I was troubleshooting 10.9 issues I had to have tech support unlock my account a dozen or more times. So I'm gonna give it a rest until I see an 10.9 update. In my case I don't think Mavericks is ready for enterprise/business use. I am 1 mac vs 350+ PCs.

  • Ignoring "Public Folders" when listing folders on an Exchange account?

    hi-
i downloaded javamail 1.4.2 and ran the demo example "folderlist" against an exchange account i have using the "imap" protocol.
it listed all my folders correctly, including "Public Folders" and its subfolders.
i'd like to not list "Public Folders" though, and so was wondering if there is a programmatic way of ignoring this folder and any
    other public folders.
when i run "folderlist" in verbose mode, i get for the "Public Folders":
    Name: Public Folders
    Full Name: Public Folders
    URL: imap://exchange-user@exchange-host/Public Folders
    Not Subscribed
    Is Directory
    IMAP Attributes:
    \Noselect
is it appropriate to intrepret "\Noselect" as folders i don't want to include in my folder list?

Use the Store.get*Namespaces methods. You probably only want to list the personal namespaces.

  • Unable to access public folders on Exchange 2007 when user mailbox is on Exchange 2013

    Hi
I have coexistence with Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2013. I've moved a mailbox to Exchange 2013 and now cannot view the public folders on Exchange 2007. The error message I get is "could not connect to the public folder server. microsoft exchange is
not available. either there are network problems or the exchange server is down for maintenance."
Mailboxes on Exchange 2007 do not have any problems viewing public folders. I can't migrate users to Exchange 2013 until this issue is resolved.
The IIS permissions to the Public virtual directory on Exchange 2007 is set to Intergrated Windows and Basic authentication.

    Hi northerly,
I recommend you follow the steps below for troubleshooting:
    1. Please run the Get-OutlookAnywhere cmdlet to verify the Outlook Anywhere settings on Exchange Server 2013 Client Access servers.
    2. If "ExternalHostName" is set, and "ExternalClientAuthenticationMethod" is Negotiate, change "ExternalClientAuthenticationMethod" to something other than Negotiate.
    3. If "InternaClientlAuthenticationMethod" is set to Negotiate, and "InternalRequireSSL" is True, change "InternalClientAuthenticationMethod" to something other than Negotiate, or change "InternalRequireSSL" to False.
What's more, here is a helpful KB for your reference.

  • Exchange 2013 public folders are sending read receipts for items viewed in public folders

We have Exchange 2013 with public folders.  These public folders are used for a large amount of shared contacts.  When a user goes into the public folders and double clicks on a contact to view it, Exchange dispatches a read receipt to all users
that are configured as publishing editors to notify them that a certain contact was read.  How do I disable this option?

    hi again dear.. :)
"At first, I would like to say the
read Receipt is not sent out by the device, it is sent out by the Exchange server. This is how it works and what happens:
    1.
    E-mail with request for send
    receipt is received on the Exchange server;
    2.
E-mail is synchronized with Windows Mobile based device using Exchange
    ActiveSync;
    3.
    When e-mail is
    read on Windows Mobile based device the read status is synchronized back to the Exchange server;
    4.
The Exchange server creates and sends out the
    Read Receipt when receiving the Read status update from the device;
The above is how this is implemented and there is no functionality which allows preventing this from occurring on the Mobile device.
It seems that there is an alternative method to disable RR using transport rules. However, it will at the risk of the filtering out other messages
    with the same subject.
Towards the third party mobile clients that support RR and DR, you might consider using Flexmail 4.11. It’s impossible to deactivate ActiveSync
    RRs in Exchange server 2007/2010."
    also
One way to stop read receipts being triggered through client side configuration on the mobile is to use the option "Don't Mark Read on server".
I have tested this successfully using this option in the TouchDown mail client on Android.
Not sure if the standard or other mail clients do support this option, TouchDown certainly does and it works.
The side effect obviously is, that the read status isn't synced back to Exchange anymore:"
hope now i r clear... one way or the other... you need to send a feed back or define a transport rule... but that again may create problem with the same subject :)

  • Does IP block list Providers protect Public Folders

    Hi,
Just a quick question about IP Block List Providers in exchange 2010.
We have Spamhaus setup in the list, we just moved one of  our customers over to DNS based mail and they have since been receiving a great deal of spam.
Does IP block list Providers protect Public Folders
with when email is enabled on the folder?
    thanks,
    Fulton
    Have a good day.

    Hi, Fultz.
I am not sure if you are using ForeFront (FF) but if you are, you need to configure FF to add the public folders as a scan target for real-time scanning.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc483020.aspx
Alternately, it seems like a lot of folks use the GFI Mail Essentials for scanning public folders as well.
If these answers are no good to you, that's cool. I recommend that you this question on the Exchange forum, located here:

    Good luck!

  • Migrating email-enabled public folders corrupted

We migrated our public folders from EX 2010 to 2013 but currently face 2 issues with the import:
    a.  All public folders/subfolders became email disabled - about 300 + folders
    b. More importantly there is a mismatch between folder name and assigned smtp addess.
For example imported folder name is qa1  smtp associated with the folder is [email protected]
is there a powershell script we can run to fix these issues ?
    alex serdyukov

    Hi,
    A. If you use serial migration to migrate public folders, then Mail-enabled public folders that are created after a public folder migration is started won't be mail-enabled in the destination organization. You'll need to manually mail-enable
these public folders manually when the migration is complete. This also applies to public folders that existed prior to migration starting, but were mail-enabled after migration started.
    Refer from
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj150486(v=exchg.150).aspx
    B. After these public folder are enabled, then check these mail-enabled public folders’ SMTP address.
If they are also mismatched, please check if the emailaddresspolicy is assigned to them with the following command
Get-MailPuclicFolder “PF path” | fl EmailAddressPolicyEnabled
If the value is true, then set this value to false and use the following command to correct them (or check email address policy)
    $allPF = Get-MailPublicFolder -Resultsize unlimited
    Foreach ($PF in $allPF)
    {Set-MailPublicFolder -Identity $PF.identity -PrimarySmtpAddress ($PF.alias+’@company.com’)}
    Best Regards.
