Mail Directory to Contact Directory

I have a setup where I automatically route incoming messages to a particular folder based on Subject. It's my intention to eventually (actually fairly soon), send an email to all with the info they've requested (same info for all).
Since I can't see a way to export email addresses from Mail, I was thinking of sending the addresses to Address Book first. The problem is that these addresses will probably be scattered throughout my current Address Book and I won't be able to find and group them again.
Essentially, I want the email addresses from a Mail Folder to go directly into an Address Book Group, or at least be screenable somehow, so that I can get them into a Group all at once.

cmhaley,
in AB, drag all your current contatcs in one group.
Then from the Previous Recipients list in Mail, select the addresses you want to transfer, press "Add to AB".
Now look at the post from Broomdodger in this post; a script to mark all ungrouped addresses (i.e. none of your latest import addresses will be in a group)

  • Using a Remote OSX Mail Directory?

I would like to use one Mail directory for my desktop and laptop (I have POP and IMAP accounts, so it is a tad more complicated than not worrying about it). The desktop has OSX.6 and the laptop has OSX.5.
I know I cannot just keep two folders synchronized because of how the emails are stored.
I have tried using an alias, and that failed - Mail would not launch.

Hi and thanks for the feedback.
I should have said that I had tried everything in the Time Machine troubleshooting page(s). I use "Time Tracker" to have a look in the backups, and I can see that its my mail directory that is continuously backing up (over 3Gb).
I have repeatedly verified my internal drive, and verified and repaired the backup.. I have even completely removed the old backup and started again with a "clean slate". I have tried using "Wired" as opposed to "Wireless" to the time capsule; I have completely reset the time capsule (not that I really think this is hardware related of course).
Something strange I have noticed this morning though... It appears that now if I leave Time Machine "On" to auto backup this doesn't occur. Its only when I "Force" a backup. I had turned of auto backup while I attempted to resolve this issue for obvious reasons. It is also doing the crazy "ever increasing backup size" where the amount to be backed up just keep increasing at it reaches what should be 100% this morning.
I'll study up on the "File System Event Store" as it nearly must be related to that somehow.
Thanks for your help... I'll advise here if I ever find a solution.

  • Redirected mail directory home deletes folder on logout

I have a network home user account that has it's ~/library/mail/ directory redirected to /tmp/<username>/library/mail/ on login. However every time i log out and back in again it's deleted all the data in that mail directory apart from the MailData directory. This means that when i restart my mail app has no accounts even though they all still appear in internet accounts under system preferences but with mail unchecked. Reselecting mail on each makes it work again, but then it has to redownload all the mail in the account.
My workgroup manager has this in the user group's preferences
The caches redirect seems to work fine.

No answer but see later posts. In the end the conclusion was a dying drive that the user homes were on
    Kind Regards

  • Overwrote apple mail directory

OK guys, here is what I did:
My old IMAP server went down.  I can no longer access it and getting emails from that server is not an option.
In MAC Mail I simply changed the settings of the existing mailbox to point to the new IMAP server.
I now don't have any of my messages from the old IMAP server.
Question: Did I delete the messages on my machine that were from the old IMAP server?  If not, where are they?  I have looked in the Apple Mail directory and the directory that stores the mail for the IMAP mailbox (which is the same directory that had the old IMAP mail) no longer has any of my email.
Please help me get my emails back.
    Thanks,

If I understand you correctly, you stopped using one iMap server and the Mac removed the messages tied to it.
That is kind of how it works.  The mailbox on the mac is tied to the iMap server so changes to one means changes to the other.  Your messages should still be in your time machine backup.  You can restore the mailbox in question, then archive or export the messages in mbox format.  These can be imported back to your mail after your reconfigure your servers.

    Hi,
the settings are gone, i guess. But even worse, I cannot get the iPad2 to play Full HD thru the Apple digital AV adaptor using apps that support  (and advertise this), like AVPlayer HD. This definiteley used to work before one of the last iOS upgrades. (I am now at 5.1.1).

  • How do I create a group in my address book to send and e-mail to multiple contacts

can I set up a group in my contacts / address book to send the an e-mail to multiple contacts?
I have mac book pro & I-pad 2 running latest operating system.
    Thanks

Yes you can by creating a group and then dragging the contacts in to it. However, since iCloud, the Edit Distribution List feature has been grayed out. Without that feature, it is not possible to specifically select a single email address for those contacts that have multiple email addresses. A major flaw that will hopefully be fixed.

  • Sending mail to a contact group with a numeric name

    Hello!
I have a problem when sending mail to a contact group. The contact group is named "1234", and in Mail the autocompletion of the address is not performed successfully.
However, if I rename the group to "A1234" then it all works. Sounds like a bug to me.
Also, I have 31 people in my contact group. And, when adding the "A1234" group in the To: field - not all in the contact group are added. (And yes, they all have valid email addresses)
This also sounds like a bug to me. Or, am I missing something?
I should also add that when - in the address book - I select the group and "Send email to group", not all people in the group are added either...
    Cheers,
    / Peter

Your email provider limits the number of email addresses you can send to at once, so it's likely you exceeded that limit, thus causing their server to hang. Check with them to find out that limit, then try reducing the number of recipients your sending to in that group to that number or less.

I'm using a 16GB iPhone 4S, with the latest version of iOS 8.1.1. Whenever I go to the "Cellular" settings on the main settings page and turn OFF cellular data usage for native apps like mail, app store, contacts, photos etc , the moment I back out and come back in, all the native apps I turned cellular off for are back on again. Kindly help me

Exact same question as ankit1986, specifically with the photos while on cellular-only, and as simple as it sounds, I tried the hard reboot Ingo2711 suggested.  Still experiencing the same error with the native apps reverting to on.  It's killing our shared data-plan (2GB).

  • New iPad Calendar app and E-mail, Calendar and Contacts setting crashes

The Calendar app has just started to crash. I cannot open the app at all, not even after forced quit. Tried to remove the calendar in the Settings app, but noticed that the E-mail, Calendar and Contacts section also hangs. What to do? It works fine my iPhone.
    Thankful for any help.
    Regards
    Sam

I agree this is most needed, but also for the iPhone & iPod touch devices. They should also allow changing what day is the start of the week (instead of being stuck with Sunday). iCal actually allows you to have the week view scroll by day, so you are always looking at the next 7 days, versus some dates in the past.

  • Google mail, calendar and contacts won't load but salesforce, facebook will - Help

When I hit mail, calendar or contacts words begin flashing so fast you can hardly read them...loading, google, mail etc. in the space to type in a web address. On the screen itself, the word loading flashes on and off, On the tab there is the same very rapid cycling of words, loading, google etc.
Other on line applications seem fine like salesforce, facebook etc.
I have tried uninstalling and re-installing Firefox to no avail. I can get to my mail through Safari but not through Firefox.
    Can you help me?

Never mind... It was indeed something simple that I missed (my icloud account was attached to an apple ID I didn't even know existed -- created for me?? ... fixed it - settings, icloud, sign out, signed back in as my actual apple ID).

I use Touchdown from Nitodesk for my work email. Its a little pricey, but it works with your companys OWA (Outlook Web Access) portal. They do have a 30 day trial that they insist that you try to make sure it will work for you before you shell out any money for the app. It syncs the Calendar, notes, tasks, emails etc.
It has a discovery feature that it will figure out what it needs to configure. All you need to provide is how you log into OWA (Username/password, website) and the program does the rest. It works very well for me.
No I am not employed by Nitrodesk. I only use the program. There was no need to ask my IT people to set anything up for me.
Give it a try, it might work as well for you too.
One day I will have to give this app a try, I am just use to configuring my device to sync without a 3rd party app but I have heard that Touchdown seems to be the best thing going to setup a corp sync process..

  • Droid X compatibility with MS Outlook e-mail, calendar, and contacts?

    Hey all,
I originally got into the Smart phone world with a Palm and have to admit that I loved the fact that i was able to stay 100% in wireless sync with my work e-mails, schedule, and contacts on Outlook.   If I added an appointment to my calendar on my palm and came back to my PC thirty minutes later it would be on my PC Outlook schedule too.   I did not have to plug it in to sync it or anything.  The IT guy at our plant set it up and did a great job.  My plant had to let him go during the slow economy times a few years back and my latest phone (the original Blackberry Storm) has been a huge let down.   It will give me my e-mails via the internet and will sync with outlook calendar and contacts if I plug it in but it cannot sync those items without a hard wire (unless of course I just did not know how to make it work).   I am decently tech savy but not to this degree....
I am elgible for a new phone in the next few weeks and my son has the new Droid X and I love a great deal of things about it, but I wanted to check in to see how friendly it sync's with MS Outlook if anyone out there who uses Outlook a ton at work could give me an update I would appreciate it.   I guess I do not anticipate it will work as flawlessly as the Palm but do not want to walk into a phone which is even more difficult to sync with Outlook then the storm.   Thanks for any feedback and suggestions you can give me.
Thanks for any comments, suggestions, or just feedback
    Vandy
