Mail disappeared at all

My mail account has disappeared at all. Everything was working fine, but suddenly the system stop working and asks for a restart.
After restarting and clicking on Mail, it asks me to set up a mailbox, as if for the first time.
Anybody could help? Thanks....

Same thing has happened to me. Turns out the Info.plist file (User/Library/Mail/POPaccount/Info.plist) just disappeared for seeming no reason. I replaced it from my backup drive and it worked again. Then, after a Time Machine backup, the files in the Messages folder (in my POP account folder) disappeared too. In Mail, the headers are still there, but the content of the messages is gone. Could this be a virus?
(BTW, I'm surprised no else has responded to this thread. Doesn't anyone at Apple read these? Or de we have drag our desktops into the Apple Store for a "genius" to look at them?)

Mail messages disappear - just a blank mail message for all emails.
This happens sporadically since I upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.2.
It happens on all of my machines (Macbook Air, + iMacs) so it must be a software bug.
Is there an update coming through for Mail?

Back up all data. Rebuild the mailbox.

  • Click on mail-mail opens and all emails there disappear

I know that there are emails on my iphone 4.
I click on mail, mail opens and all emails there disappear.

Is the account an Exchange account, a MobileMe account, or a Yahoo account that was created on the iPhone with the Yahoo account preset? If not, the account does not support Push access for received messages. Fetch only - automatically or manually.
If an account that supports Push access for received messages, who is the email account provider for the account? More than likely the problem lies there.
If the account does not support Push access for received messages - Fetch only, automatically or manually, try deleting and recreating the account on your iPhone.

  • All my mail disappeared from my folders!

Help! I am running Mail 1.2.5 on Mac OS 10.2.8. I was trying to setup a new earthlink POP account for my wife. I noticed that the socket number that earthlink gave me to use was different from what I had on my account settings. So I went in and changed it for my account. As soon as I did, all my mail disappeared from my inbox and sent. I checked my inbox.mbox file and all its contents are new and created at the same time I lost all my mail. Does anyone know ANY way to get my mail back? It's stuff that's no longer on the server. I just assumed once this stuff was in my inbox, it wasn't going to go anywhere until I deleted it. I didn't think changing one setting in my account was going to wipe anything out.

    Hey hpr3
That did help reveal some boxes I don't use thanks for the tip, but I used to have a bunch of sub accounts that I created to sort my emails into manageable groups and these have disappeared. ANy ideas that? Regards

  • Help: folders in Mail disappeared!

I regularly check two POP mailboxes in Mail in 10.4.3.
While on vacation, I moved the Users/Library/Mail folder and my Mail prefs (Users/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.prefs or whatever it is) to my laptop and then proceeded to work from my laptop while I was traveling. Worked fine.
Came home, did the opposite (dragged those two files from the laptop to the desktop), started up Mail, and everything looks normal -- I have my two POP boxes at the top, then a couple dozen folders below that. But as soon as I click "Get New Mail" all the couple dozen folders disappear!
If I quit and reboot Mail, the same thing happens.
If I reboot Mail, but click on any of these folders, I can go through them and read messages, etc, but as soon as I click Get New Mail (or it does that automatically, on a 5-minute timer), all my folders disappear!! (Leaving only the POP boxes, Drafts, Sent, Trash, and Junk)
    HELP!
    Both computers running 10.4.3.

I did correctly copy both the Mail folder and the prefs file.
I later solved the issue. For some inexplicable reason, two of my mail folder's permissions got screwed up in the transfer. I found this after I went into my Mail folder, looked at the long list of folders, and saw the red sign next to two of them. After I reset them both to read and write (and their contents), Mail is now back to functioning normally.
I have no clue what set this off (the permissions were fine on the source computer's Mail folder and all its contents), but that solved it.
    Argh. I hate permissions.

  • Strange things happen: mail disappears/appears/is shown wrong

Strange things happen: mail appears in "drafts"/mail disappears after "send"/title-content doesn't match
I'm having some Problems with mails that get worse and worse
First thing I remember is, that I found mails in "Drafts" that weren't drafts, but just mails I received or mails I sent.
They were kind of aliasses of the original. Deleting them in "Drafts" deleted the original in its Mailbox too.
Re-indexing Mail (removing the envelope.index files etc.) fixes it, but it reappears very soon
    Next thing:
When I send an email, it happens sometimes, that it is not send (no sending sound, no copy in the "Sent"-Folder). It just "disappears"
Re-indexing Mail fixes this: When Mail is ready with reindexing, it sends those messages (kind of funny, when I do this reindexing after some weeks... kind of...) - but it will reappear
The third thing happens more seldom:
When I klick on the emails name in the list, I get another Mail shown in the Previewbox. Doubleklicking the mail shows the wrong mail too.
Re-indexing fixes this, - but it will reappear
Well after having re-indexd my Mail library 10 times this week, I want another solution for this...
    Mail Version etc:
    Mail: Version 3.5 (930.3)
    1 Pop account,
    1 .mac account (i don't use)
Mail, after being sent, is moved to "Sent"mail never to be deleted
Mails Spam Filter is active (and working fine, by the way)
about 80 Mailboxes for old Mails I got, partially nested
More than 4000 Mails in the whole Database
    Things I've already done:
Reindexing mail, as I already wrote (Quit mail, removing the files "Envelope Index" and "Envelope Index-1", and the folder starting with "Mac-", then start Mail again, that tells me to klick "ok" for reimporting the mail)
I deleted a bunch of emails with attachements, so there are just a few with attachment now.
I emptied the "Sent" folder and put those old emails in 3 Folders (each of them is containing about 500 mails now)
Thanks for your help in advance
PS: Yes, I want to keep all these old mails...

This is not a security risk - a setting change you should make.
    1.     Take a look in settings - i message and see what the 'recieve at' addresses are declared.  If you do not want to see phone messages on the pad, clear that number out of there - and just use your e mail address.
    2.     Since you used to have an i phone, that device is likely still registered   go to your i tunes account and de register the device.

  • After downloading OSX Mavericks, my AOL mailbox has disappeared and all the AOL messages get dumped into the inbox along with the gmail messages. How can I get the AOL mailbox back?

After downloading OSX Mavericks, my AOL mailbox has disappeared and all AOL messages have been lumped in the inbox along with my gmail messages. What do I have to do to get my AOL mailbox back?

Linking AOL and gmail?  I don't know what that means.  But if it means what I think it does - that you have the AOL and gmail servers chatting directly with each other through some configuration, I'd definitely disable that.
In general, the messages either aren't deleted, or aren't correctly deleted, or there's a protocol or network error, or some sort of a mail server error.
First diagnostic is a mailbox repair.  Mail.app > Mailbox > Rebuild
Then verify that the credentials are correct and the connection is reliable:
    Mail.app > Window > Connection Doctor
And yes, if you have gmail and AOL chatting directly with each other, undo that.

  • E-mail disappear on my iPad without me deleting

e-mail disappear from my inbox on my ipad2 without me deleting. what should I do to prevent this from happening?

bob [ you knew my tongue was firmly in cheek - well, mostly ]
seems a futile effort. as I said before, messages are SMALL. For example, the notice of your post at   Jan 14, 2015 4:10 PM  CST/US when saved as from MS Entourage:
These clearly are BIGGER than the space they use in the Entourage database.
I do not know what methods are used to store on iPad, but for the sake of discussion, let's use Mac Finder filesize of HTML. Still seems a piddly amount compared to all the media stored locally - or is it all really on iCloud?
At any rate, nice guy that you are, why not illustrate How to get vkgibson's issue fixed now that we accept why?

  • Why did my iPhoto and Mail disappear?

Why did my iPhoto and Mail disappear?  I also lost and had to reload Quicken.  This all happened in three days.

The applications are gone.  First Quicken disappeared and I reloaded it from the disk yesterday. Today Mail, Contacts and iPhoto disappeared.  No one else uses my computer and I've had no other crashes and I haven't made any changes.  I don't think anything else is missing.  Apple is sending me disks so I can reload the missing stuff but they wouldn't speculate on why it happened nor whether it will continue.  Thanks for helping.

  • Mail disappears from Mac account inbox

    Hi folks.
I'm a relative apple newby. I have 2 mail accounts, 1 of which is an apple mail account. On 2 occasions now all the mail in my mac inbox has just disappeared. Any ideas how to retrieve them and why is this happening?
    Tks in advance

My wife has a sub-account on our MM family pack subscription and had this issue: occasionally mail on her iPhone would appear briefly in the iPhone inbox, then disappear from the list. It never showed up in Mail.app at all. (I have the master account on this family pack and haven't had this issue… knock on wood.)
I was also a recipient on some of those mails -- but if I forwarded them to her she still didn't get them. I had to copy the text out of the messages and paste into a new mail. That worked. So it seems there's something in the mail header (perhaps?) that causes this… yet the mails have not all been from the same person / address. In fact, mail from person "A" might do this disappearing thing today, yet mail from the same person "A" might work fine tomorrow. It's that sort of multi-variable, intermittent problem that's very hard to pin down.
I tried changing her password -- to guarantee that only her known clients were logging in (no lurking POP mail readers that she'd forgotten about). No effect. Then I tried turning off her junk filters, both local and online at MobileMe (thinking maybe some rule was out of control -- deleting random messages, rather than filing them as junk). No effect (other than a lot of complaints from her about junk in her inbox, of course).
Finally, she suggested that maybe it had to do with MM push services -- since it only happens on the iPhone, not on her Mac. We turned off push on her iPhone and voila! It seems to have fixed the issue.
I haven't found anyone else who's connected this with data push on the iPhone. I'd be interested if other folks who try this as a solution would see if it works for them and post results here.

  • Mail disappears when transferred to folder On My Mac

I am having trouble losing pieces of mail when I transfer them to folders that I have created on my mac. Today I moved one, checked to see if it is in the new folder, and it is not in any folder at all!
    Advice, anyone?

    Laura Kaiser wrote:
    Thanks Elko,
In my special mailboxes for my mac.com account, store junk messages on server is checked, delete is set to never.
This tells me that your junk messages will be with you forever. You aren't deleting them from the server when you download them, and you aren't deleting them ever, from your computer. No reason I can think of to keep junk, on the server or on your computer, but maybe I'm not thinking right.
Also move deleted messages to Trash is checked, permanently erase deleted messages 'when quitting mail' is set.
This is good, HOWEVER if you are having a problem with mail disappearing, change this setting so that they aren't deleted when you quit, but maybe a day later in case you need to retrieve them from the trash folder.
In another account that included messages that disappeared, only move deleted messages to a different folder is checked, erase when one week old is set.
So have you looked in the trash folder of this account for the mail that is disappearing?
In the Advanced Tab, checked boxes for mac.com acct. include enable this account, and include this account when checking for new mail.
It also says keep copies offline, all msg.s and their attachments.
This tells me that you have a different version of Mail than I have. My choice that is closest to that says to remove copy from server after retrieving a message, nothing about attachments. What version of Mail do you have?
For the other account, (not mac.com), checked boxes include enable this account, and include this account when checking for new mail, and remove copy from server when retrieving a message is set at right away.
    What does this tell you?
I guess I should have asked you in the beginning, HOW are you moving messages to other folders (and then not finding them there?) Are you selecting the message and then using the move to command from the drop down menu? Are you sure you are putting them in a folder on my mac?
Have you rebuilt your mailboxes lately?

  • Mail disappears

hi my emails keep on disappearing from all my devices , my imac and macbook air but not my iphone can you help.
    Brian

Is there a category for the dissappearing emails? Do they have anything in common? Have you tried refreshing the inbox?
Another possiblity is that since Macs and iPhones categorize mail a little differently, try going the the "all mail" section. You can find it under your account mail. That is, instead of going to your inbox, you go under there, where is says "accounts" and shows all your accounts, including the icons for each mail service. There should be a group saying "all mail" if you use google. Let me know if you find the disappearing mails.

  • Mail disappears out of only óne mailbox

I have an iMac and use OSX 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). From time to time almost all the mail disappears just out of óne mailbox.
Thanks to Time Machine I can restore the content of the box.
I want to know how it can happen. I also want to know how to prevent this trouble.

Try rebuilding the mailbox. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.

  • Mails disappear without a trace

Can somebody please explain why incoming mails disappear? It comes up in the messagesbox but then suddenly it vanishes. Nothing in the junkbox or any other folder in mail.
    Any help is welcome

Hi Ernie, In the event it helps, when I try to find these again by going to the Finder menu under Go, they only come up when I select Norm with the little house icon. (If I try to find them by double-clicking on my Norm hard-drive icon on my desktop and then go down to the Mail folder under the Library folder, there is nothing listed and no deleted files.)
Again, back to my home icon where I found these deleted files: actually, there is no POP Account Folder in the LibraryMail portion here. The sequence of how I found them is: Norm (house icon), Library folder, Mail folder, [email protected] folder, Deleted Messages folder (with no add'l designation as you mentioned), Messages folder, and then all the deleted messages which I can click twice to open (i.e. titled "12462.emix"). Lastly, in this Deleted Messages folder, showing directly above the Messages folder (both the same left justified) is a file entitled "info.plist"
I am simply reporting the info to you as clearly as I can, Ernie. Norm

I have a  macbook, an ipad, and an iphone with the Mail app on all three synced through icloud, but when I read and delete emails on my phone, the inbox on my ipad is not update, so I have to go through and mark as read or delete messages again. How can I sync my iphone and ipad? (it seems like each is synced only to my laptop, so don't synchronize until I go home and use my laptop.

POP: yahoo, aol, comcast/time warnder/road runner
Imap: google, hotmail, and more including icloud.
If you want to use multiple devices - move to imap, I would even say "exchange", but Google does not support free exchange anymore, since January of that year. So Ironically  Icloud or Hotmail would be my choices right now.
To find out more about what happens to you, search on Google "difference between pop and imap"
