Mail disappears, then re-appears

When I run Mail, all my old main in my Inbox disappears. After checking with the mail server, they come back. This didn't happen before I upgraded to 10.5.6, i.e. the old mail stayed during the entire checking server process.
Any ideas?

I have a very similar problem. IMAP account, and the inbox messages keep on disappearing and reappearing. I shut down Mail, removed the Envelope index and the IMAP- folder (put onto the desktop), and then restarted Mail so that it would re-index the emails. That worked temporarily. Mail redownloaded all the emails in the box from the IMAP server (600+), then they disappeared again. I removed the mailbox completely (through Preferences) and reinitiallized it, same behavior.
If I click on the inbox for that account, none of the mails are there. If I then Synchronize (under Mailbox menu), they reappear (sometimes) or not (they either all appear or don't, for no rhyme or reason). I can then click off that mailbox to another and come back, and they disappear again!!
There doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason to this...any thoughts?

  • Mailboxes disappearing, then re-appearing

    Hi All,
Several times now all of my .mac mailboxes have disappeared. They normally re-appear sometime soon after they disappear but then it seems to then start re-syncing and downloading all the messages again and it downloads for hours. On the .mac cloud it says that my .mac mail storage is 2.5Gb but on my laptop the .mac mail folder is 6Gb+ and growing as it carries on syncing.
Does anyone have any experience of this, or any suggestions why it happens? Or would anyone recommend that I just delete the account and then re activate it and let it build the mailboxes from scratch from the server?
I welcome you comments & suggestions!

    Hi,
I attempted the Disk Utility Repair but it did not work.
So I disabled the application 'StickyWindows' and this resolved the problem.
    Hope this helps.

  • Mail disappears and re-appears in inbox, drafts and sent not working

I'm doing some troubleshooting for my Mum. She's running Mail under Tiger, and she's been reporting that some times she opens up Mail, and all her mail is missing, but if she tries again later, then it might re-appear. It happens to different mailboxes, but mostly the Inbox. It's an IMAP account, but the problem is definately not that (I've actually changed the mail account hosting, and it's made no difference).
On what I assume is related, and mail she sends, does not appear in the Sent mailbox (it sends fine), and drafts don't save at all.
The only issue I can think of is the way Mail was put on this iMac. Basically it was my sisters iMac, which she passed on to my Mum when she got a new MacBook. She passed it on, already running Tiger, but for some unknown reason, she had deleted Mail from the Mac. I put it back on, by using a the setup disc for my own iMac (both PowerPC) - and extracting Mail 2.0 using Pacifist, which I then just copied across to the the Applications folder. Could this be the origin of the flakey mailboxes? And if so, what should I do?
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, I’m pretty sure that’s the cause of the problem. Mail 2.0 is the version that came with Mac OS X 10.4.0. You haven’t said what’s the version of Mac OS X running on your Mum’s computer, but the version of Mail on a PowerPC-based Mac running Mac OS X 10.4.11, which is what your profile says you have, should be at least 2.1 (2.1.2 if you installed the latest Security Update)...
You should be able to fix the problem by reinstalling the Combo Update for the type of computer and the version of Mac OS X she’s using, to bring Mail back in sync with the rest of the system:
About the Mac OS X 10.4.11 Update
Mac OS X 10.4.11 Combo Update (PowerPC)
Mac OS X 10.4.11 Combo Update (Intel)
After installing the Combo Update, the computer may restart twice and the first restart may take several minutes. This is normal.
Additionally, if she had installed any Security Updates released afterwards that included updates for Mail, you’ll have to reinstall that as well:
    About Security Update 2007-009
    Security Update 2007-009 (10.4.11 PowerPC)
    Security Update 2007-009 (10.4.11 Universal)
You may also want to read the following articles for guidelines on how to properly install system updates:
    Troubleshooting installation and software updates
    Installing software updates
Basically, you should verify/repair the startup disk and back up before installing the update, no applications should be running while installing it, and you may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications (not normal applications) installed.

  • Strange things happen: mail disappears/appears/is shown wrong

Strange things happen: mail appears in "drafts"/mail disappears after "send"/title-content doesn't match
I'm having some Problems with mails that get worse and worse
First thing I remember is, that I found mails in "Drafts" that weren't drafts, but just mails I received or mails I sent.
They were kind of aliasses of the original. Deleting them in "Drafts" deleted the original in its Mailbox too.
Re-indexing Mail (removing the envelope.index files etc.) fixes it, but it reappears very soon
    Next thing:
When I send an email, it happens sometimes, that it is not send (no sending sound, no copy in the "Sent"-Folder). It just "disappears"
Re-indexing Mail fixes this: When Mail is ready with reindexing, it sends those messages (kind of funny, when I do this reindexing after some weeks... kind of...) - but it will reappear
The third thing happens more seldom:
When I klick on the emails name in the list, I get another Mail shown in the Previewbox. Doubleklicking the mail shows the wrong mail too.
Re-indexing fixes this, - but it will reappear
Well after having re-indexd my Mail library 10 times this week, I want another solution for this...
    Mail Version etc:
    Mail: Version 3.5 (930.3)
    1 Pop account,
    1 .mac account (i don't use)
Mail, after being sent, is moved to "Sent"mail never to be deleted
Mails Spam Filter is active (and working fine, by the way)
about 80 Mailboxes for old Mails I got, partially nested
More than 4000 Mails in the whole Database
    Things I've already done:
Reindexing mail, as I already wrote (Quit mail, removing the files "Envelope Index" and "Envelope Index-1", and the folder starting with "Mac-", then start Mail again, that tells me to klick "ok" for reimporting the mail)
I deleted a bunch of emails with attachements, so there are just a few with attachment now.
I emptied the "Sent" folder and put those old emails in 3 Folders (each of them is containing about 500 mails now)
Thanks for your help in advance
PS: Yes, I want to keep all these old mails...

This is not a security risk - a setting change you should make.
    1.     Take a look in settings - i message and see what the 'recieve at' addresses are declared.  If you do not want to see phone messages on the pad, clear that number out of there - and just use your e mail address.
    2.     Since you used to have an i phone, that device is likely still registered   go to your i tunes account and de register the device.

I can't open my mail app. It appears on the screen but disappears immediately. What can I do ?

Try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. When the screen goes blank power On again in the normal way.] It is absolutely/appsolutely safe!

  • Menu Bar Icons Appear...then Disappear, then Reappear

I can't find this problem anywhere else on the internet being addressed. I have a MacBook Pro 2Ghz Intel Core Duo. Ever since I did a clean install of Leopard I have this weird problem. In the upper right corner where the Finder, Battery, Volume, Wireless, Date/Time and Stacks Icons are located, they will appear, then disappear, then reappear constantly. Ive tried restarting, Ive even gone into the System Preference to choose the Time/Date option. When I click display time in Menu Bar it will let me select it, then when the icons disappear that option goes away in sync. Very strange, has anyone else had this problem and have a cure for it?

I'm having the exact same problem and I know what's causing it but I don't have a solution to fix it. It is happening for me due to my Firewire CD/DVD drive. It's just a regular Sony drive that never had any problems with 10.4. Now though when DVD is mounted it starts up the menu bar issues. When I eject the DVD the menu bar goes back to acting normal.
I did a google search and found another thread on the macfixit forums. One guy found a solution to fix his problem with it and that was to trash these two preference files in your home/Library. One was com.apple.finder.plist and I can't remember the other one. I tried it but it doesn't work for me since it seems to be my firewire DVD drive that's causing the issues.
Do you have an external Firewire device connected? If so try disconnecting it and see if that fixes your problem. I sure hope apple fixes this issue soon.

  • New Mail in Inbox is appearing than disappearing

I just received two emails and as I clicked on one and started to read, it just disappeared. Was not in Junk Mail though others from today were. I searched everywhere and totally gone. Luckily I forward all to Gmail otherwise I would have never have known about it.
Have rebuilt inbox and junk. Is that enough?
    Thanks.

I have exactly the same problem. Mail disappears after coming in, a rebuild helps to get the messages back but only until I change mailbox (folder), then I have to rebuild them again...

  • Mail says it's downloading, but then nothing appears

I'm having an issue after the latest ios 7 update. My mail accounts won't sync or download messages. It says it's downloading, but then nothing appears. I've tried manually fetching and automatic push. It was working for about an hour this afternoon, but that's been it.

My problem is that I can download new mail, but not old email, so I can not manually clear the 6500 emails I have in my inbox for 1 account.  I tried every trick on the forums to no avail.

  • Button Entrance Effect Issue - Button appears, disappears, then fades in!

    Hi.
I feel really dumb that I can't figure this out.  I just got Adobe Captivate 6 (we were using 4 before, thus I missed 5 and 5.5) and had fallen temporarily into bad company in another authoring tool that I won't name, but rhymes with "LordyTime".
    Anyway...
I am trying to do something fairly simple...just add an animation effect to a button so that when the button enters (about 4 seconds into the slide timeline) it fades and grows.
So, I placed the button on the stage, I right clicked it, and then I said "Apply Effect".  I then clicked the "Add Effect" button and selected "FadedZoomIn" from the list.  It added itself to the effects timeline starting at 00:00 and ending at the end of 00:01.
When I preview the slide, however, the button appears for a very short "blip", then disappears, then grows and fades as expected.
I can't believe that Adobe intended this to be the way that the effect works...so I'm thinking I'm missing something.
Help?  Lilybiri, are you out there?
    Thanks.
    Rob

I'm here but bit overwhelmed due to several circumstances
Are those shape buttons? With the patch of October, this glitching appeared for shapes to which you apply an effect. I got a hotfix but it is not distributed publicly. Perhaps try to contact Adobe, or if you have a subscription this will certainly be fixed in 6.1. Cannot check, do not have the new release myself.
Sometimes a workaround, where you apply a short fade in to the shape will solve (but not always) the problem

  • TS3276 When i receive a message in Mail it does not appear in my inbox

When i revieve a message in mail it does not appear in my in box until i click away from the in box by going into sent mail and then returning to the in box, this has only started happening since i have moved onto Maveric OS, any ideas anyone?

I found the answer on another forum by '''Tom Wijsman''':
Go to Options -> Advanced -> Config Editor.
    Find the Name mail.pop3.deleteFromServerOnMove
    Set it to True.
True: Delete the copy of the message on the POP3 server if you move or delete the message.
False(default): Only delete the copy of the message on the POP3 server if you delete the message.
That's it, restart Thunderbird. You need to press 'Get Mail' everytime you want to sync with the email server, in order for you to make sure messages in the application is in sync with the email server.
The following should be emphasized to realize the sync with the server. You will not see your server message disappear upon the initial Get Mail download (new messages downloaded). After you process your Inbox in Thunderbird by deleting/moving a new message, then do another Get Mail which will delete the new messages previously downloaded on the server (put in sync).
Note: If you have older messages in your Thunderbird Inbox, they will not be deleted from Server. Delete them manually from server. From then on, any new messages you download, then process (delete/move), and then do the sync by doing Get Mail again WILL be deleted.

  • Sent mail disappears from Sent folder - VERY ANNOYING!

Sometimes when I send mail it does not appear in the Sent folder, or appears very briefly before disappearing.
This is really annoying because I have no copy of the email to send it again, and have to check with the recipient to see if they got it. It happens fairly regularly but I haven't noticed any particular pattern. The lost mail does not appear in Mail on my Mac or on the MobileMe web version. Sometimes it reappears later on.
Does anyone else get this problem? Any clues as to what might be going on? Seems a fairly fatal flaw for an email application.

    Hi Mike,
    Here's what I would do...
Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), off the HD & use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions.
In your Home folder. open Library folder, open Mail folder in that, look for the Envelope Index, and drag it to the Desktop.
Then in your Home folder. open Library folder, open Caches folder in that, look for the Mail, and drag it to the Desktop.Move Envelope Index to the Desktop in...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
Move this folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail
    Reboot.

  • Contacts syncing then disappearing then resyncing on iPhone/iPad with Exchange Activesync 2010

Using iPhone 4S and iPad with 5.0.1 and Exchange 2010 activesync, user has about 1600 contacts, inbox is clear/empty.  ISSUE: After migrating client to Windows 7 and Exchange 2010, contacts on devices sync slowly but rarely get to the total number of 1600.  Gets to about 1000 contacts after 1hr of syncing, but sometimes resets after a few hundred contacts appearing. Randomly, the phone/ipad will stop syncing and all synced contacts disappear, then start resyncing again.  Have set up this users login on another iPhone 4S with 5.0.1 and same issue occurs. Is not device dependent nor is the reset timer consistent so we don't believe it's a timeout issue - reset time is random. Prior to migration, user didn't experience this issue.  We cleared the inbox to ensure large emails weren't causing a server timeout. Inbox and calendar appear synced. Have tried all combinations of push/fetch/# of mails etc, but sure it's not device or setup dependent.  It seems something in the new server combination with 5.0.1 or perhaps a "bad" contact that the server encounters will cause the contact list "reset" and begin resyncing.  Seems to be an isolated case in this enterprise server/space.  On the iPads/iPhones, other contacts or mailboxes are synced, no local contacts on iTunes, and Cloud is turned entirely off. Have checked contacts for "large" contacts - total contact list folder is < 20MB due to some card images.  Would appreciate any help or suggestions. Alan.

I have the same issue in my iPhone 4S (IOS 5.1.1). 3 others in my company have the same situation.
The problem started last Friday. I have not changed anything in my iPhone.
I tried turning off iCloud contacts sync, I tried recreate my Exchange account. I tried a complete reinstall.
After that I could do a full sync on Sunday.
On Monday I lost my contacts again and I could no longer do a full sync. I have 1200 contacts and I can not sync more than 400, the synchronization stops and all contacts disappear, then the resynchronization starts again.

  • Mail Disappeared

I have an iPhone 6 running fully updated iOS 8.1.  I have an att and mac e-mail account set up in mail and also on my MacBook Pro.  The set-up has worked perfectly for years with only the MacBook authorized to delete messages from the server. Suddenly last week all of my att mail files disappeared from my iPhone...in box, sent, trash, everything.  After checking the support site I deleted the att account from my iPhone and set it up again.  That seemed to solve the problem for a while but now mail is disappearing from my in box and moving into one of the two trash accounts that appeared after I deleted the original att account and set up the new one.  None of this is affecting my MacBook which seems to be working fine. Is there a problem with Mail on the iPhone?

Looks like this is an iOS Mail problem.  Some of the old sent e-mails from my att account have now appeared in the sent mail file of my .mac account.  Some sent e-mails from as far back as 2010/2012 have returned to my att sent file and new sent mail is going there too but nothing between. New e-mails continue to disappear from the in-box almost as soon as I open the "all inboxes" and then re-appear in one of the att trash files marked as unread.
