Mail does not load as quickly as it used to?

Why doesn't mail work as well as it used to? It can take 15 minutes when you skip from one account to another, sometimes longer, forcing you to quit mail and restart it.This is a big step back for those of us who depend on efficient and fast email. -d

Quit Mail.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder from the menu bar, copy the text on the line below into the box that opens, and press return:
~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is corrupt and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. If you get a warning that the file is in use when you try to empty the Trash, log out and log back in.

Under Window in the Menu bar select Connection doctor. You will see green to indicate a connection and red to show there is a problem. Except for iCloud account you'll see two entries for each account 1) receiving and 2 SMTP for sending.
If it's red, this usually means it's missing the password.
For Incoming messages, set in the account window, under Account Information tab.
For Outgoing (SMTP) messages, follow these steps:
EDIT SMTP SETTINGS
In Accounts window > Outgoing Mail Server SMTP: select to Edit SMTP Server list... from popup.
Select account in the list.(It's not uncommon to find extra SMTP servers listed. When you remove account, Mail does not delete the smtp info. You might need to do some clean up in the list to remove the extras.)
Under Advanced Tab:
Apple defaults to the default ports (25,465, 587) but some servers prefer a custom port. Check to see what port they recommend. Gmail for example likes 465, Outlook.com 587.
Verify if your server require SSL.
User Name. Enter full email address eg. [email protected]
Add password if it is blank.(If you have two step authentication setup, you'll need to get an app specific password more info)
Open Connection Doctor under Window in the Menu bar.
Do you see green light now for your account SMTP?

Mail does not load current emails

mail application does not load current email. when i delete messages mail downloads olkder messages, not current or new.

If it doesn't download new mail, it is possible that you are not connected to the mail server. Try to check if you have internet connection on this phone.

Try completely turning off your phone and then turn it back on. Fixed the problem for me.

Mail does not load completely

When I open Mail, it pretends to open, but:
1) I cannot see the viewer without clicking "New Viewer Window"
2) When I do it allows me to select mail/RSS items, but the viewer just reads "Loading" and never loads
3) It does not retrieve any new mail/RSS messages
4) When I tried to delete the last few messages (in case they caused the problem), they appear to be deleted, but only until I click on another folder they reappear.
5) Trash appears empty, when I don't think it should be.
6) I have to force quit.
I think this might have started when I closed the Macbook cover while it was loading new Mail. Also, this started just yesterday before I upgraded to 10.5.3 today, which I hoped against hope it might help.
I've searched forums the Net over. Help!

Mail does not load mail screen

I upgraded as MBP form 10.6.8 ro 10.7.4 via image(I have done this many times). When you open mail for the 1st time, it does a conversion of all the mail boxes. At that point mail typically, loads the screen with all of your mail boxes, etc. That screen never loads. Mail Preferences do not load when you choose them. I can create a new mail message but then can not see the screen.
Where are the mailboxes and pslists kept for a users mail account in Lion???

Mail does not load- bad version??

All was working (including mail) yesterday. Today I had a hang of some kind where the machine would not wake up. The keyboard was not a problem, even though it seemed dead (did not wake up when hitting any key, mouse does not wake in Lion, grrr!).
Had to reboot the MacPro with Power button (first time in quite a while). After that, restart OK. However opening Mail was an issue. Got the screen attached and no idea why. Here's what I tried so far:
Cold Restart (see above).
Boot from backup system disk (HD OS X 10.7). Rebuild with Disk Utility,start up volume. Found errors- extended attributes. Fixed Errors and verified OK. Check partitions, many errors related to User 0 and User 501 (where it should be User 0) were 'fixed'.
No joy when rebooting in the drive and User.
Alternate user uses same apps. Tried anyway on the chance that a User preference setting was the problem (i.e., com.apple.mail.plist resides in User Folder). Still no joy, same message.
Found certain other third party app (Find Any File) that fails (due to an Exception error). Most Mac apps seem OK, except for Calendar which will not load.
Found many errors noted in Console System log related to mail accounts- prove I wasn't dreaming and that Mail did run OK.
So right now Ihave a TIme Machine backup but no clue as to what to restore and when it actually went , nor why. Any hints?

When selecting Mail, it just keeps on getting updates for hours. It's not loading. Please help.

This happened to me initially with firmware version 3.36. The phone attempted to use GPRS or EDGE over WLAN even when I told it not to. . I tweaked the settings as described in this thread and eventually every feature started to work.

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

After years and years of working flawlessly, Mail won't start.
Upon launching this error message appears: "Mail quit unexpectedly" with a whole problem detail.
......and, by the way, Software Update won't launch either.

In Finder, hold down the option/alt key while selecting Go from the Finder menu bar. Select Library. or select Go to Folder and paste in ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail. Select Containers/com.apple.mail. Move the folder com.apple.mail to your desktop. You must move the entire folder, not just the contents.
Re-launch Mail and test. If the problem is solved, recreate any required Mail settings and import any emails you want to save from the folder on the desktop. You can then put the folder in the Trash. If the problem remains, return the folder to where you got it replacing the one that is there.

When i look at my Me account via ICloud there are sometimes e-mails which do not show when i look at my inbox via the Mail application - it doesn't seem to be related to mails from a person or company, as when i look from one sender some will show and others will not. I have the Mail options as Expand all Conversations, but it still shows as a problem - does any one else have this or know how to fix it?

The issue might be related to the OLE DB driver. Which OLE DB Provider do you use? If you use the Microsoft JET 4.0 OLE DB Provider, try the Microsoft ACE 12.0 OLE DB Provider instead. You can get this provider by installing the 32-bit
Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable.
In addition, you can recreate the OLE DB Connection Manager and the OLE DB Source component instead of using the existing ones.

Installed v.7.01 and does not load 14 tabs. I use a 4 screen system and v. 6.02 worked fine, I had to reinstall 6.02 which again works w/o problem, but 7.01 loading endlessly so I kicked it off. what's the reason?

at first after installing v. 7.01. worked well, but afterwards did not refresh, i.e. never ending loading. made a bullguard antivirus check which took 5 hrs, but no result. then I made a system reset to a former backup point, but firefox 6.02 did not appear on screen when clicking on its icon. deinstalling 7.01 and installing 6.02 again solved the problem. I use 4 screens with 5 to 14 tabs on each screen. with 6.02 no problem so far. but 7.01 no way. what's going on?

Firefox 3.6.13 does not load AOL mail - it logs in ok but does not load

I updated Firefox to the latest version and it will not load my AOL eMails.
I can however log into my AOL account and it shows the Welcome message and number of unread mail and also shows the folders etc. including Spam folder but it does not load the eMail or will not allow me to open any eMails.- Just shows blank.
BTW I can access my AOL mail Box with Internet Explorer.
