Mail does not recognise Business e-mail address in the recipient field.

In Mail, when I start typing a name in the To: field, and it's not a physical person but a Company from my Address Book, then it's not recognised as a recipient at all (no Autocomplete etc.)
This is very frustrating as I have to remember the business' owner's name and enter that instead.
What is the point to register a new Contact as a Business if you are not able to email it by typing its name in the To: field?
Are you aware of this problem? Is there a workaround?
Thank you,

Does seem a bit odd if not frustrating behavior.
Work around.  Put the Company name in the "First" place. Forget the company checkmark.

Well, there is no such thing as an AOL type account in Mail. Such an account must be set up as either POP or IMAP. Nevertheless, knowing that the ISP for one of the accounts is AOL is useful because it seems that other people also have this problem with AOL -- see Chuck Coulson's and smackwell's posts in this thread.
I don't think I'll be able to help you with the AOL account other than telling you to try rebuilding the mailbox -- select the mailbox and choose Rebuild from the Mailbox menu. Have you tried that?
The problem shouldn't happen with the POP account, however. Do you experience the same problem with it as well?

  • Mail does not display all lokal mail in folders

    Hi,
I am using a couple of folders in Mail where I save messages locally. I noticed that some of the filters send mail to a special folder as they should, but the emails do not show up in Mail. When I go to the folder /users/name/Library/Mail/folders will I find the email as emlx file. Mail does not recognize them. I repaired rights, but nothing changed.
Does someone experienced this problem before, is there a solution. For any help my thanks in advance.

  • Applescript script being called for new mail does not recognise MessageID

I have come across the same issue referred to in a previous message in this forum (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=926080) but it does not go the extra step that I need.
I need a script that will run on incoming mail messages and be able to create a text file with a completely unique name. I found that using the message subject and the receive date was not sufficient as I occasionally get messages that would create duplicates (and hence loose all but the last message). I tried to add in the MessageID value into the text file name but it would appear (based on the referenced previous posting) that the MessageID is not actually assigned at the time the script is triggered (but is if the script is run after the message is visible in the InBox).
Is there another unique value that I could use (such as MessageID) that IS available on an incoming message?
    Thanks
    Susan

Thank you for the suggestion. I actually did have the date/time down to the second, but the speed with which the web site that generates these mails works (I am looking for work and extracting the job listing for further processing), especially if there are only a few jobs, means I can get emails that have the same timestamp to the second. I thought that this would be enough but when I saw 2 emails in my inbox and then say only one file in the extract folder, I investigated further and found that the timestamp was not sufficient.
I also owe you all an apology in that I realised after I found the original message and posted this one, that it was the Tiger forum, whereas I'm running Leopard. Therefore I cross-posted my message and referenced this one form the other forum but not vice versa.
Anyway, the solution turns out to be to use
set UniqueName to do shell script "uuidgen"
    as provided in http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9512884.

  • Sent mail does not appear in sent mail folder

Hi. Odd problem. I have done a search for this but can't find an answer.
I have an IMAP account with PIPEX and mail will not display the sent messages.
Mail has 3 folders - Inbox, Sent, Trash.
IMAP account has 2 folders - INBOX and a sub folder sent-mail.
    Inbox/INBOX syncs fine.
Nothing appears at all in Sent.
Sent messages sync ok, as (using finder) they appear in my library at myusername/library/mail/IMAP-(mylogin)/INBOX/sent-mail.imapmbox/Messages
For info, the inbox messages are stored at myusername/library/mail/IMAP-(mylogin)/INBOX.imapmbox/Messages.
For info again I have store sent messages on server selected in preferences (because I need to see them from another computer)
I have tried 'rebuild' several times on the inbox & the rebuild option is greyed out on the sent folder.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks
    Stringbag

    Hi Stringbag.
This account requires INBOX to be put in Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > IMAP Path Prefix for Mail to handle it properly. Mailboxes on the server should not appear as subfolders of the account’s Inbox in Mail.
After having done that, Mail should be able to properly save sent messages on the server, but maybe in a mailbox different from where you want them to be stored. To fix that, select the desired folder in Mail, and do Mailbox > Use This Mailbox For > Sent.

  • Package javax.mail does not exist (Still having trouble)

    Good Morning
I know that there are several posts regarding issues with javamail. I have viewed them for the past hour. While several of them address my issue I have been unable to locate a solution.
Bare with me please, I am making this post very thorough. The other threads I have read are frusterating because the problems people tend to post are not clear.

Here are the methods I have tried...
    1. Make sure you have most current version of Java
    2. Reinstall Java
    3. Attempt to compile in an IDE (Attempted in Eclipse 3.2)
    4. Set class path
Some sources suggest "CLASSPATH" some suggest "CLASS PATH" as the variable name. I have tried both.
Below is what the classpath looks like in bold.
    Variable Name: CLASS PATH
    Variable value: c:\download\javamail-1.4\mail.jar;C:\download\jaf-1.1\activation.jar;.
I have double checked all folder names and copy pasted all entries to eliminate typos. Javamail-1.4 and jaf-1.1 are both located in c:\download which is the same location Class Path points to.
Thank you very much for your input and effort. I can imagine how frusterating it is responding to 20million javamail posts :) (that may be a bit of an overstatement!)
    Thank you again!

Yes - I have read that part of the README and did exactly as it has said in a previous attempt. I should have mentioned that here I'm sorry :)
I moved the .jar files into the download folder and set the classpath exactly as the readme shows.
When I do that the msgsend.java compiles correctly but it still does not run.
    Below is what happens.
    C:\download\javamail-1.4\demo>set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;c:\download\javamail-1.4
    \mail.jar;%CLASSPATH%;c:\download\jaf-1.1\activation.jar.
    C:\download\javamail-1.4\demo>javac msgsend.java
    C:\download\javamail-1.4\demo>java msgsend.java
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: msgsend/java
    C:\download\javamail-1.4\demo>
I have tried fixing this error as well via forums and FAQs but it seems to be the most generic error.
One suggestion was to clear your classpath. I tried this with a test hello world program which was giving the same error - "NoClassDefFoundError". By clearing the classpath I was able to get the hello world program to run without this error. But I can't just clear the classpath in this instance because it needs to point to mail.jar and activation.jar for the program to compile.
Thanks again for all of your efforts. You are more appreciated than you know.

  • Javax.mail does not exist

I would like to thank warnerja for your advise about the classpath.
Thanks for the classpath information regarding the .jar files. Now when I start tomcat cat it runs appropriately. However I am still having a problem when i try to compile the message send demo. The message I get is javax.mail does not exist,(import javax.mail.) when I downloade the mail api I placed on the root of my D drive and i placed the mail and activation jar files in my lib folded of my Jakarta-3.2.1 lib folder. I graduated Chubb Institute back in october and am currently still looking for work so my memory but be a little fuzzy as to whether or not this is correct. Your help is greatly appreciated.

If you are just compiling the classes then you should check that the mail.jar file is in your compiler classpath. How you check and set it depends on how you are compiling it and on what system etc.
