Mail does not respond!

When I open it, it is checking for e-mail over and over again. I have already waited for long time but not finishing. It is unable to stop unless I force quit it. What's wrong with it? Anyone can help?
Thanks

Hi Nepenthes,
If you don't mind me asking, What mail provider are you using? This could be happening for a couple of reasons. I would recommend setting up your Mail account again. The other thing is does your internet work? There are many reasons why it won't work, I suggest looking at Mail Connection Doctor and even Activity monitor in the Windows Menu. Does this seem like your problem? You might want to consult the Mail.app support page. Any information you can obtain and share will help diagnose your problem.
I hope that helps,
Jon

  • Mail does not respond when trying to set up new account

I'm trying to set up my brand new @me.com email account on my brand new Macbook Pro running Mountain Lion 10.8.1. I open Mail and it prompts me to write my name, email adress and password, which I do. Then, without fail, it says 'Searching for mail servers from the specified email address...' for a few seconds before freezing, with that message still displayed. I have to force quit Mail, which is said to be 'not responding'. Anyone know how to fix this?

  • Mail does not respond to mouse clicks properly

This bug in Mail started in Lion, and has continued (or possibly worsened in some instances) in Mountain Lion.  Has anybody heard of a fix?
Basically Mail acts like it is freezing, but in fact is not handling mouse clicks properly.
    1) If Mail is "behind" another active app window, clicking in the content area of the Mail window will not activate the window until you click a SECOND time.
    2) Once you get Mail to respond by clicking it the second time, if you click back and forth between it and the window in front (e.g. between safari and mail, the clicks DO register, but Mail acts as if the click position is offset from where you actually click.  The offset seems to vary and I haven't found a consistent link between the offset and where I click in mail or the other window, or the relative positions of the two windows.
    3) When you try the 2) trick on elements that can scroll, you realise that as well as an offset, Mail is trying to "drag" instead of respond to a click, so the list of mail folders pulls and bounces back, or the list of mail scrolls, or sometimes if everything lines up, an image of an envelope appears and moves as if you are trying to drag an email from one place to another.
    4) Clicking on the title/button/toolbar of Mail ALWAYS brings it to the front...
    5) If you bring Mail to the front by repeatedly clicking on the content area (and yes, sometimes it takes more than one click...) and as the FIRST thing you do after activating the window, click one of the buttons in the toolbar (e.g. the trash or delete button), it will depress, and stay down, as if you have done a "press and hold" instead of a "click".  Clicking on the button again will complete the action, but clicking elsewhere in the title bar will release the button and the action will not occur, just as if you had held the mouse button down and dragged off the button before releasing, which is appropriate behaviour IF you had held the mouse button down in the first place...
    6) If you activate Mail by clicking in the content area, then clicking a second time in the content area, then continue to single click around the content, it behaves as if it is one step behind you, responding as if the LAST click is the click you just made.  Interestingly the "button down state" seems to persist, because for instance clicking on a succession of emails will highlight each email in turn, but the content of the email on the right will not update with each click, only updating when you "break out of the cycle" with a double click or a title bar click.
These are all REPRODUCIBLE, even after a restart.
    They ONLY happen in Mail.
I have tried mouse, track pad, turning off bluetooth, so I don't think these things are related.
    SO...
I THINK that MAIL, since Lion, has an issue with its event handler, where MouseUp events are either lost or mishandled, so that clicks are being registered as drags, or the "button down" state is not updated or something...
With the above description I feel the Mail programming team should be able to track down the bug in minutes and fix it.
Apple - feel free to get in contact with me and I will let you access my machine via remote desktop or teamviewer or something to see the bug in action.
It is time to fix this annoying behaviour.

Worked out that 2 and 6 are related - the offset isn't an offset at all - it is the thing you last clicked on!

Okay, I tried deleting the Finder preferences first (along with a handful of other preference files that I knew were no longer needed), and it seemed to help--at first. But eventually, all the same problems started happening again, so I concluded that it was necessary to just start with a fresh (empty) preferences folder. As you know, this is a pain to deal with, but I limited my pain by moving all the old preferences files into a folder on the Desktop rather than simply deleting them. That way, I could just put back any missing preferences that were too hard to recreate. Restoring all of my preferences with new (uncorrupted) prefs files will be an ongoing process, but the good news is that this effort (so far) seems to have solved the problem. Mail is responding to all my clicks, even when I switch between different apps and different spaces.  :-)
Now that things are working correctly, I notice that when I switch between apps and/or spaces, the selected app (or the frontmost app in the new space) will show an active state for its window, whereas before, the selected app didn't update to show that it was active--it kept the inactive state for its window. I'm no expert, but it seems to me that this might have something to do with the windowserver process, so it might make sense for the next person who stumbles on this thread to start by deleting any preferences files that begin with com.apple.windowserver. Just a hunch, but it's worth starting there before you do a complete flush of all your preferences.
Thanks again for the help--hopefully this workaround will be persistent. Fingers crossed!

Go to Settings-Safari and Clear History and Clear Cookies and Data.
Another thing you can try is to double-click the Home button.  A row of recent Apps will line up along the bottom of the screen.  Scroll across and find the Safari icon.  Press on it for a couple of seconds until it starts to wiggle.  A red minus sign will appear on each icon.  Press on Safari's minus sign to remove it.  This may clear its memory of the bad Google page.
If this does not help, try resetting (rebooting) the iPad.  Hold both the Home and Sleep buttons for several seconds until the Apple logo appears.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" arrow.  The iPad will restart after a couple of minutes.  Resetting this way will not hurt anything, and sometimes clears up mysterious problems.

    hello
The problem appeared two days ago is that I can't open my mail app. everything was fine and functional. Now I double click on the icon and it does not respond. it receives mail and I can see push notifications on the mail icon but when  I try to open it is no use. OS Y 10.10.2 (14C1514)

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
              Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder—not just its contents—to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Restart the computer. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. Any custom stationery that you created may be lost. Ask for instructions if you want to preserve that data. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Package javax.mail does not exist (Still having trouble)

    Good Morning
I know that there are several posts regarding issues with javamail. I have viewed them for the past hour. While several of them address my issue I have been unable to locate a solution.

    27 errors
Here are the methods I have tried...
    1. Make sure you have most current version of Java
    2. Reinstall Java
    3. Attempt to compile in an IDE (Attempted in Eclipse 3.2)
    4. Set class path
Some sources suggest "CLASSPATH" some suggest "CLASS PATH" as the variable name. I have tried both.
Below is what the classpath looks like in bold.
    Variable Name: CLASS PATH
    Variable value: c:\download\javamail-1.4\mail.jar;C:\download\jaf-1.1\activation.jar;.
I have double checked all folder names and copy pasted all entries to eliminate typos. Javamail-1.4 and jaf-1.1 are both located in c:\download which is the same location Class Path points to.
Thank you very much for your input and effort. I can imagine how frusterating it is responding to 20million javamail posts :) (that may be a bit of an overstatement!)
    Thank you again!

Yes - I have read that part of the README and did exactly as it has said in a previous attempt. I should have mentioned that here I'm sorry :)
I moved the .jar files into the download folder and set the classpath exactly as the readme shows.
When I do that the msgsend.java compiles correctly but it still does not run.
    Below is what happens.
    C:\download\javamail-1.4\demo>set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;c:\download\javamail-1.4
    \mail.jar;%CLASSPATH%;c:\download\jaf-1.1\activation.jar.
    C:\download\javamail-1.4\demo>javac msgsend.java
    C:\download\javamail-1.4\demo>java msgsend.java
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: msgsend/java
    C:\download\javamail-1.4\demo>
I have tried fixing this error as well via forums and FAQs but it seems to be the most generic error.
One suggestion was to clear your classpath. I tried this with a test hello world program which was giving the same error - "NoClassDefFoundError". By clearing the classpath I was able to get the hello world program to run without this error. But I can't just clear the classpath in this instance because it needs to point to mail.jar and activation.jar for the program to compile.
Thanks again for all of your efforts. You are more appreciated than you know.

  • I have trouble with hotmail because javascript does not respond! How do I fix

Whenever I use hotmail on firefox, my e-mail get hung up because java script does not respond. How do I fix this.

This is the situation with Snow Leopard and existing iCloud accounts:
You will be able to access email and calendars on the iCloud website at http://icloud.com provided your browser is reasonably up-to-date.
You will not be able to sync contacts or bookmarks from a pre-Lion Mac.
You will be able to enter the server settings for email manually in the Mail application and access your email.
You will not be able to sync your calendars directly.
Some people have been able to set up calendar syncing by using the method detailed here - this is an unsupported hack and may not be reliable, and may stop working at some future point.
Address Book won't sync: this page has a convoluted hack to make it sync which has been reported as working (and as not working by others). I've not tried it.
There are a couple of alternative syncing services you might like to consider, though they're not particularly cheap:
Soho Organizer can sync Calendars and Contacts with iCloud on Leopard, Snow Leopard and Lion. A single user licence (multiple machines allowed) is $99.99.
Fruux syncs Calendars, Tasks and Contacts beetween a wide variety of devices (not using the iCloud server) including Snow Leopard and above, Windows Outlook and Thunderbird, Linux Thunderbird, and iOS and Android devices - see their compatibility chart (click the blue 'i' for a caveat about Snow Leopard). It's free for one user, two shares, two devices; above that pricing starts at €4 per month.
(I have no connection with these firms and have not tried Soho Organizer, though both have had good reports and I've found Fruux to work well.)

  • Lumia 920 seldom does not respond while in sleep m...

    Hi,
I encountered the same issue along with another abnormal condition too. Phone turns into locked state and the screen stops glowing (blank black screen), indicating idle state. It doesn't respond when I press unlock button. Also it does not respond for Camera, and Volume buttons too. But, when I connect it to a PC in that state I am able to browse the phone normally via PC only. Phone still remains buggy. As a work around pressing volume-keys + power key + camera key simultaneously restarts the device and resumes to normal state. However, previous state of phone isn't restored i.e., device starts as it were normally restarted.

Sorry, couldn't find any place to post this. It seems that there is, at least on my phone, a semi-reproducible bug that stops the volume control from working.
Steps to reproduce (from clean phone, ie. just freshly booted, no remnant IE tabs):
    1. Turn on phone.
    2. Open music+videos (Xbox music) app. Play a song that is locally stored on the phone.
    3. While the music is still playing, open up an Internet Explorer tab and navigate to youtube (m.youtube.com).
    4. Play an HD movie file. I played Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit" preview #9. Your previously playing music will stop playing.
    5. After a few seconds, stop the youtube video playback by hitting the Windows button.
    6. Go back to the music+videos app. Play a song that is locally stored on the phone.
On times that the bug shows up, the music plays at a fixed volume. Using the volume rocker will cause the volume display to increase and decrease, but the actual volume will not change unless you change the volume to 00/30, at which point the sound will mute. If the bug doesn't show up, repeat steps 3 through 6 until the issue shows up. You don't need to reboot in between attempts.
Interestingly, volume control still works if you go back to the youtube video. The issue shows up when using the loudspeaker as well as when using headphones. If nobody else can reproduce it, we can start trying to figure out if it's certain music file types or something that cause it. Diagnostic information below:
Model: NOKIA Lumia 920 Carrier: AT&T
OS Version: 8.0.9903.10 Firmware revision number: 1232.2109.1242.1001 Hardware revision number: 1.0.0.0 Radio software version: 1.0.202041.3 Chip SOC version: 8960
    Thank you,

I've had the same problem.  The screen won't blank during a call (like the proximity sensor isn't detecting my face/finger/hand).  I keep hanging up on people with my ear.  I've taken to locking my screen before putting it to my ear but anytime I get another call / text / voicemail / calendar notification / alarm while i'm on the phone (which happens a lot still) it lights the screen up again and makes it where i'm able to hang up with my ear.
I've factory reset, and had the phone replaced TWICE already.  I'm on my 3rd Lumia 920 (and they all have the same issue!)  This didn't happen until the most recent firmware update...so I think it was a problem created when they were trying to fix the other proximity sensor issue where the screen stayed on black all the time during a call.
Rebooting does fix the problem temporarily, but it always comes back.  I'm tired of hanging up on people and hoping for a new model device from AT&T but they're giving me **bleep** at the moment.
TLDR:  Factory reset, replacement devices don't fix the problem.  It's a firmware bug.  I'm on my 3rd 920 with the same issue.  Extraordinarily frustrating.

  • Finder does not respond/Booting troubles

    Hi!
    MacBookPro 13.3" (2010)
    Snow Leopard 10.6.8
A couple of days ago I started having trouble with my MBP. Finder stopped responding. The first sign if I remember correctly was that when I tried to shut it off nothing happened, so I went to Force Quit activities and restarted Finder and the computer shut off. I didn't think of anything specific at the time. Now however when it boots Finder won't respond, no matter how many times I restart it. I have tried restarting it through Force Quit, through the dock and a Terminal command that i found ("kill -HUP `ps auxc | grep Finder | awk '{print $2}'`" from here). When I boot, as said, it does not respond, I don't get my icons on the desktop or anything. I can however use other applications without troubles. I have not tried saving anything but I have experienced troubles with the internet (however that might not be related) but when I try to aquire mail I can't (but that might also be related to troubles with internet (although I've been connected at the time and not only to the network). I have tried booting in safe mode and that has not helped.
I also tried doing software update because I thought that maybe a previous one messed something up (I have read that has happened to some people). That did not work or help. It downloaded some Java updated, iTunes, Printer updates and so on and a safety update and it went to installation mode and an error message popped up (I can't remember what it said but as far as I remember it only said there was an error, I sent it to apple). I tried again when I managed to boot it and as I suspected it would it said it could not save the files anywhere.
I have however also experienced booting problems, both in safe mode and normal. When I boot, a bar appears at the bottom of the screen. Sometimes it takes about a minute or more longer that normal and sometimes it won't boot even after 10-15 minutes (then I force it off by holding down the startbutton).
I've looked for different discussions here but haven't really found what I have been looking for, at least that has helped.
    /chipshooter
I would really appreciate help, Thanks!

You have a hardware problem. More then likely the drive is failing or it could be the cable going from the drive to the logic board.
Soon it will not boot at all. That is when the drive has failed completely.
Copy you personal data to an external ASAP.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
