Mail Doesn't Actually Send

In my iCloud account, I'm finding that sometimes I send a message in Mail, it goes through the Outbox and seems to have sent.  But it's not in the Sent folder. Checked on iCloud.com and it isn't there either.  Very disturbing to not have confidence that your mail is being sent.

If only.  That's the scary part—it leaves the Outbox but never actually sends. (Which makes me have to check each email as I send them.)

Similar Messages

  • Safari share via email doesn't actually send a email

Since upgrading to iOS 6.0.1 (maybe even 6.0) I found out that the Share Link in Safari doesn't actually send the email with the link you are trying to share.  Can anyone else verify that their iOS 6.0.1 device does actually send the email with the link/web page they are trying to share?  I tested this with my own email address last night and realized nothing was actually being sent (or even waiting in the Outbox to be sent).
If I shared the website via iMessage the iPhone does send the link via iMessage but not via if I try to share through email.

This is a known bug, it should hopefully be fixed next week when they update the software used by this forum.

  • Postfix error in console, mail "sends" but doesn't actually send

Postfix was working fine but wasn't starting automatically on startup so in an effort to force postfix to start every time I edited the /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.postfix.master.plist and added:
    <key>OnDemand</key>
    <false/>
Now it starts when I boot the computer but when I send email in Mail (via localhost) it looks like it sends fine in Mail but the email isn't actually sent. When I check the console I see the following:
2/22/08 11:41:18 AM com.apple.launchd[1] (org.postfix.master[141]) Stray process with PGID equal to this dead job: PID 144 PPID 1 smtpd
Unfortunately my *NIX knowledge isn't what I'd like it to be so I'm not sure what to make of this. It is possible that (since I'm at work now) they are blocking the sending of email from non registered servers. Is there any way I can tell if this is happening or not?
My main issue is having postfix start automatically on boot so if there is a better way to do that in Leopard I'd be happy to just do it another way. Thank you for any help you can provide.

Sorry, didn't realize this was the server forum (came from Google) but I'm on the client. I checked the log and it says port has been blocked, so I'm assuming it is just blocking it at work.
Thank you for your help with the location of the mail log, that will be very useful for figuring this out on my own next time.

  • Mail doesn't send mail :(

I am having major issues with mail recently. No matter what account i use (IMAP, POP3) it won't send mail (ie won't connect the smtp). Anyone else have this issue? (It downloads the mail).

Mail Help has some articles devoted to sending problems, e.g. “I can't send email” or “I can't send email because the connection to the server on port 25 timed out”. You may want to take a look at them in case there is something there that applies to you.
Something that usually works if you’re trying to use an outgoing (SMTP) server different from the one provided by your ISP (and in the case of .Mac in particular) is changing the outgoing server port to 587 instead of 25 in Preferences > Accounts > Account Information > Outgoing Mail Server > Server Settings.
On the other hand, if the outgoing server that doesn’t work is the one provided by your ISP, the problem could be that you’re telling Mail to authenticate, but the outgoing server doesn’t actually require authentication because it can determine who you are by other means.

  • Mail doesn't send mail anymore

All of a sudden my mail accounts will not send mail. At first I thought it was the size of the actual message or attachments being sent.... nope. doesn't matter if its a 10mb attachment or a 3kb message it just gets sent to the outbox folder for all my accounts gmail, yahoo and business.
I rebooted my ipad and the same issue still occurs.

    I'd check the port.
It can change itself and that stops 'sends'.

I was having trouble sending to hotmail accounts from my Earthlink account, they had me go into Mac Mail preferences and make changes (because they claimed it was Mac Mail's fault, even though the hotmail error code said it's because Earthlink is blocked by hotmail), now Mac Mail doesn't work AT ALL - any help changing the settings back to correct Mac Mail settings? I can provide a transcript of the entire tech chat session, if that will help...

both apostrophes are used correctly, thanks
doesn't = does not (this is called a contraction)
    it's = it is
    Mac Mail's fault = possessive
any help with the actual issue? thanks!

  • Sending in Mail doesn't work, Entourage does, Why?

Sending emails in Apple's Mail doesn't work, yet Microsoft Entourage does, Why?
This is the conversation I've been having with my server tech, and they can't find the reason why I can send mail in Microsoft Entourage no problem, yet Apple Mail receives but not able to send any email what so ever..
    Very frustrating.

I'm having a heck of a time trying to SEND emails on the SilverSpiritHomeServices.com system.
    I'm using a Mac.
I can do it in Microsoft Entourage, yet I can't do it in Mac Mail (this is the program I need to be able to use).
Receiving email it works fine, just sending it only works in Entourage.

    Hello,
That definitely seems odd. Since it works fine with Entourage, that would indicate the server is working properly. Additionally, I've tested the SMTP server from here (on a Mac) and am able to connect. I do not have a valid user to send email with, but I can try it if you want to provide me with the one you are trying, temporarily.
As always, if you have any other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. Have a great day, and thanks for choosing Rackspace Managed Hosting!

Here is the "cheat sheet" from APPLE.COM:
    "Outgoing mail server settings
    Outgoing server hostname: __________________________
    Such as smtp.sampleserver.com
    Outgoing server port:
    25 [ ] 465 [ ] 587 [ ] Other: ____
The outgoing mail server supports Secure Sockets Layer (SSL): Yes [ ] No [ ]
    Outgoing server authentication type:
    Password [ ] MD5 [ ] NTLM [ ] Kerberos [ ]
Outgoing server requires a username and password: Yes [ ] No [ ]
If yes, username: ___________________ password: _______________________
Can these settings be used from any Internet connection?: Yes [ ] No [ ]
If you use your ISP’s own email service (instead of a third-party such as Gmail), sometimes it may not work if you roam to another Internet access point, such as a cafe with wireless Internet. Check with your email provider that the settings they give you will work if you plan to roam."

    Hello Carl,
Your server only supports CRAM-MD5 and PLAIN authentication. You will need to use plain text authentication. I have never configured mac mail so I do not know how to configure this, you may want to speak with someone a apple support if you have trouble.

  • Long delay between send button and actual send in mail

When sending messages in mail, there is a long delay between the time I hit the send button and the actual sending begins.  Message and attachment size have no bearing.  The delay is usually about 30 seconds, but sometimes longer.

There was info in the detail window when I opened it.  Also, it was not immediately connecting to the server, but when I clicked back on the regular mail window to send a test message, the server connected instantly.  Below is all that was in the details window:

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • I have a new ipad 2.  The mail program  refuses to send forwarded emails because the recipient "doesn't accept relays."  My desktop and Blackberry forward emails to those recipients  without difficulty.  Help.

I have a new ipad 2.  The mail program  refuses to send forwarded emails because the recipient "doesn't accept relays."  My desktop and Blackberry forward emails to those recipients  without difficulty.  Help.

I suspect that you are using the Forwarding option within Workgroup Manager, and this works outside of the postfix alias scheme. I think you should just set those users you are forwarding to, to normal mail users, and put their forwarding rules ALSO in the alias file, so you would have:
    MAILER-DAEMON: postmaster
    postmaster: alex,yong
    alex: [email protected]
That should do it. You really have to commit to either using Workgroup Manager or Postfix in their entirety. They don't really work too nicely in conjunction with each other.

  • Mail program doesn't stop sending

Since I tried to send a mail with a large attachment, the mail program doesn't stop sending any more. Every time I start the mail program it goes immediately into the sending mode and I can't do or select anything anymore. Anybody out there with a good idea?

when it fails, doesn't it eventually give an option to Try Later or Edit message?
If the later choose that & delete the attachment, then close that window.
Have you tried disconnecting from the Internet & see if you can stop it & trash that file?

  • Mail doesn't send to certain e-mail addresses, receiving seems ok

I am using the latest version of the Apple Mail application under Leopard (with all updates downloaded). About a month ago I e-mailed a friend from my home account and unusually didn’t get a reply. I then e-mailed again a few weeks after, again no reply. After a phone conversation found out she didn’t receive either of my mails. This prompted many test e-mails, the outcome of which was the following:
1 - Was able to receive my friend’s e-mails, but if I replied using Apple mail (hitting the reply button), my reply never got back to her.
2 - Was able to send to and receive my friend’s e-mails using MS outlook from my place of work using a PC and my work e-mail account. No problems.
3 - Was able to send and receive to my work account from my home account using Apple Mail, no problems.
4 - Was able to send and receive my friend e-mails from my home account, using web mail rather than using Apple Mail.
5 - Could no longer e-mail my wife using the Apple Mail (and she could not e-mail me), we both use the same ISP. However using web mail rather than Apple Mail we could still send and receive e-mails from each other.
6 - Phoned my ISP, my account seems to be ok, which was also confirmed by using webmail as described in the previous two points.
7 - Other than the regular Apple updates the Mail app is the same client I have been using since I got my new Mac last October. I didn’t appear to have any problems until about a month ago and have made no changes to settings etc.
8 - When I do attempt to send e-mails to my wife or friend, I get the usual whooshing sound and a progress bar to show that the mail has been sent. The outbox is empty and the mail appears in the sent box, but never arrives to its destination. No error messages or e-mail bounce backs, nothing.
9 - Downloaded and installed Thunderbird, all the problems seem to go away – I can now send and receive e-mails from both my wife and friend.
It’s a bit weird that Apple Mail seems to have taken an aversion to sending mail to some particular e-mail addresses. Unless someone can explain what is going on here, I think that this is a serious problem. As I’ve mentioned, there is no hint that Apple Mail is not sending e-mail, as far as I was concerned e-mails were leaving my Mac. Has anyone experienced something similar? Is there an easy fix?

I just did a quick test in InDesign CC and my one worked. Maybe you should delete the button and redo it.
By the way on a slightly different matter, do you know that to enable users to complete the form and store it on their computer using Acrobat Reader, you need to enable the form as follows:
Open the form in Acrobat XI  and then:
File > Save As Other > Reader Extended PDF > Enable More Tools (includes for fill-in & save). . . Your users will be able to fill in the form and save it (assuming they have the later versions of Acrobat Reader).
Make sure you keep a copy of your original PDF with a different file name as once you've created a Reader Enabled PDF Form you can't change it.

  • Mail doesn't want to send using smtp

Very regularly (from a few times a day to once every few weeks), I have this same problem.
If I want to send an email, mail is unable to send it using the smtp-server (smtp.telenet.be) I normally use. Nothing works but to choose another server. If I go to the preferences and delete the server I use and add it again (without changing anything), mail is all of a sudden able to use the smtp-server again.
    What's wrong? It's pretty annoying...

These fixes have helped others, depending on the situation.
Have an up-to-date Time Machine or other backup before attempting any major software updates or rebuilds.

Make sure your software is up to date.  Apple recently released a Mail update.
    Apple > Software Update...
    Try booting in Safe Mode.
Boot and when you hear the bong hold down the Shift key.
It will boot slowly.  Be patient.
              Login the the user account.
              Restart.
    Another fix to try:
    Shut down Mail.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Copy and paste the following
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/
    Click Go.
Move all "Envelope" files to your desktop.
Restart Mail and let it convert/reindex your mailboxes.
If this worked, Trash the Envelope files file that are on your desktop,
    if not put them back.
    Another fix:
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Copy and paste the following:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.mail/Cache.db
    Click Go.
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Restart your Mac and try Mail.
You can try restoring mail from a Time Machine backup.
Hold down the Option key and in the Finder Go > Library
    Enter Time Machine.
Select a date before the Mavericks upgrade.
    Restore Mail.
