Mail doesn't connect

Today I switched my wireless router. My browsers all work fine. Flock. Fine. Firefox. Fine. Safari. Yuppers.
However, suddenly iChat and Mail and even iTunes won't connect. When I click on mail I get this message: "There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Check the settings for account "[email protected]" or try again.
The server error encountered was: The connection to the server "imap.aol.com" on port 143 timed out."
When I try to open iChat it just says connecting for a minute and then disconnected.
And iTunes won't allow me to connect to the store or to the radio.
Any idea why this might be the case?

Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list.

  • Mac mail doesn't connect to emails

    Hi everyone,
Ever since I updated to Mavericks, my emails don't connect to Mac Mail.
I tried deleting the email addresses/accounts and adding them back in but now it doesn't connect at all.
I have gmail and hotmail and am not sure what I should be setting my Incoming and outgoing servers as.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!!
    -Judy

It attempts to set the servers.  After a long period of waiting, it gives me the message that it has to be configured manually.
urm...ok so after deleting the accounts and attempting to add it back on, it doesn't initially "work".  I restarted my macbook and now it works.
macmail has reset the incoming and outgoing servers:
    gmail:
    hotmail:
but then I have another hotmail account and it shows:
I hope it continues to work.  My mailbox has been working on/off for the past week or so...
    Thanks!!

  • Mail doesn't connect to any servers anymore

Hey all - over the weekend my Mail is suddenly not connecting to any of my email servers.  I have a 123-reg account, squirrelhosting, and a couple of hotmail accounts - so a variety of POP and IMAP.  Mail is not connecting to any of them and is giving me "The server “xxxxxxxxx” cannot be contacted on port xxx.
All of the email accounts are accessable via webmail.  They also still work on my iPhone.
    I have tried:
    - Disabling SSL
    - Using alternate SSL ports (993, 25,465)
    - re-creating accounts (I tried adding a brand new Hotmail account and that still won't connect)
    - deleting the V2 folder
    - deleting com.apple.mail-shared.plist
    - deleting the MailData Envelope indexes
    - flushing the DNS Cache
    - Reparing Keychain
    - Verifying/Repairing Disk Permissions
    - Creating a new User and trying new mail accounts in there
I've pretty much exhausted all my ideas and wanted to see if anyone had any ideas before I give up on Mail and migrate to Outlook/Thunderbird.
    Many thanks in advance!

After 6 months of support and Mac engineers in the States trying to solve this issue on a new 27 inch Fusion drive, the soltion was simple!
Please add the following DNS Addresses in the advance section of the ethernet and WiFi interfaces in Network preferences.

    It seems to be working.

  • IPhone 4S Mail doesn't connect to Yahoo . . .

A while ago the display on my iPhone 4S gave out in Barcelona and the Apple Store there replaced the entire phone. Everything works EXCEPT Apple Mail . . . Safari connects, so there is communication with the ISP, which is Yahoo Small Business Bizmail.
I've tried everything. I've set up accounts following the Yahoo Bizmail recommendations; I've deleted accounts and created new ones; I've restored the iOS and the data. Last week I spent 1.5 hours with Yahoo Bizmail support and we could not get the iPhone to communicate in Mail . . . kept getting the message that the server is not responding.
The Yahoo tech finally wondered if there might be something in the iOS software that was corrupted, even though 'Restore' had produced the same results. Could the unit in Europe have different properties that prevent Mail from working properly?
The iOS is up-to-date as is the firmware.
My Mac Pro has no trouble with Apple Mail and the Yahoo Bizmail server.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance . . .
    Ed in Brooklyn

    Progress report:
I restored the iPhone 'as new' and proceded to set up the Yahoo accout as a new one under 'Other.'
    I used the recommended settings from Yahoo Bizmail (see below) and the process gets stuck at 'Verifying.' I get the message;
The SMPT server "smpt.bizmail.yahoo.com" is not responding. Check your network configuration and that you entered the correct information in the "Outgoing Mail Server' field.
    Very frustrating.
Thanks in advance for the help!

  • Google apps doesn't connect using exchange option in mail while on 3G

    Hello,
I have been using google apps for over two years and it has been working perfectly on my iPhone. I set up my email using the exchange option and its been running without incident. I also have my gmail setup using exchange and it too has been working fine for years.  About 2 months ago I had my iPhone 5 replaced by apple under warranty and on the new device  I was no longer able to setup my gmail using exchange. I then read that google stopped supporting exchange for new iOS devices. However, my google apps account continued to work perfectly until a few days ago. It suddenly stopped connecting to my account. I did a few experiments and noticed that it works perfectly when connected via wifi or on Edge but not on 3G. It's strange that it just doesn't connect on 3G. To troubleshoot I deleted the account and added it again but that didn't solve the problem.  I also restored the phone but that didn't help either. Finally I changed my SIM card and that didn't help too.
Does anyone have any idea why this is and how I can solve this issue?
    Regards,
    Saeed

Thanks for the reply. This explains why my gmail account doesn't work using exchange. However, google apps is a paid service and hence should work using exchange.
What did google say when you contacted them? It's their service.
Also, I am able to connect using Edge and wifi but not while on 3G.
Connect to what? Are you saying Google Apps works on Edge, but not 3G? Or are you saying you can't connect to the Internet at all over 3G?

  • SOCKS + SSL = trouble (Safari crashes, Mail.app doesn't connect)

I use a SOCKS (v4) proxy over an SSH tunnel to connect to applications at work, as do many of my co-workers.
Safari will often (even usually) crash hard when using SOCKS if you try to connect to an SSL (i.e. https://) site.
We recently migrated to IMAP over SSL for Mail, and Mail.app cannot connect successfully to the IMAP server; it gets a generic "SSL error" (NOT a certificate error).
Both work fine over a plain SSH tunnel, and both work fine without SOCKS. Firefox and Thunderbird work fine over SOCKS for such sites (note that they don't use the system-wide settings/libraries). Other users at my workplace are seeing the same behaviour.
It seems to me that there might be a bug in the SOCKS implementation, or SSL libraries, or combination thereof, provided by OSX.
    Can anyone else confirm this?

  • IPhone Mail App cannot connect with gmail iMap server

So my gmail address list or contacts seems to have been hacked and all my contacts who are still talking to me have told me so.
So I changed my gmail password.
No more complaints, and probably no more friends as contacts.
But seriously, I have been able to get gmail (web) working with my new double authentication password(s). Also, my outlook for MAC is working using the special "generated App Password". (because Outlook cannot do the double authentication thingie)
Ditto for the gmail app from google on my iPhone. (it works too)
    BUT
I cannot get the iPhone Mail App to connect to Gmail.
I have deleted (i thought) my existing gmail setup from my iPhone. When I try to re establish the gmail settings, using either the password generated by the MAC / iCloud keychain generator or the App password, I get the message "My Name" is already added.
It looks to me that there is something in the iPhone that matches my gmail address, even though I deleted the account.
Any suggestions before I call Apple for help?
    Thanks
    Barry

    I think so.
Actually I think I need to get the App Password for Mail on my phone. It generates the app password and I enter it into the password in the gmail setup for mail.
The problem is that when I hit next on that page, I get the message:
"my name" is already added" and I cannot proceed.
Before doing this setup I deleted my gmail account by tapping the email address and hitting delete in the Mail, Contact and Calendars setup..
but, there is something hiding in my iPhone that remembers my old gmail password (I guess) and doesn't let me proceed.
If I enter my gmail iChain password I get the same thing.
If i do this in airplane mode (no connection to google) i also get the same.
I talked to an apple care person who had me reset all my settings... still the same thing.
I am trying to avoid a gull reset of the iPhone, but that may be in the cards.
Going to go to the apple store and ask there, but i am not hopeful.

I'm having a heck of a time trying to SEND emails on the SilverSpiritHomeServices.com system.
    I'm using a Mac.
I can do it in Microsoft Entourage, yet I can't do it in Mac Mail (this is the program I need to be able to use).
Receiving email it works fine, just sending it only works in Entourage.

    Hello,
That definitely seems odd. Since it works fine with Entourage, that would indicate the server is working properly. Additionally, I've tested the SMTP server from here (on a Mac) and am able to connect. I do not have a valid user to send email with, but I can try it if you want to provide me with the one you are trying, temporarily.

Here is the "cheat sheet" from APPLE.COM:
    "Outgoing mail server settings
    Outgoing server hostname: __________________________
    Such as smtp.sampleserver.com
    Outgoing server port:
    25 [ ] 465 [ ] 587 [ ] Other: ____
The outgoing mail server supports Secure Sockets Layer (SSL): Yes [ ] No [ ]
    Outgoing server authentication type:
    Password [ ] MD5 [ ] NTLM [ ] Kerberos [ ]
Outgoing server requires a username and password: Yes [ ] No [ ]
If yes, username: ___________________ password: _______________________
Can these settings be used from any Internet connection?: Yes [ ] No [ ]
If you use your ISP’s own email service (instead of a third-party such as Gmail), sometimes it may not work if you roam to another Internet access point, such as a cafe with wireless Internet. Check with your email provider that the settings they give you will work if you plan to roam."

    Hello Carl,
Your server only supports CRAM-MD5 and PLAIN authentication. You will need to use plain text authentication. I have never configured mac mail so I do not know how to configure this, you may want to speak with someone a apple support if you have trouble.

  • Mail no longer connects to Exchange Server

    Hi,
    I recently upgraded from 10.4 to 10.5.
After the update everything was working fine, including Mail. It was talking to my Exchange server as it should.
But I had to dabble. While I was previously connecting using IMAP I noticed the Exchange server option in Mail so I decided to give it a go thinking it might enable some more of Exchange's features.
However, Mail will not connect to the Exchange server. Even trying to switch back to IMAP doesn't work. It just won't connect.
I KNOW the settings are correct and I have other machines here that are working fine (using the Exchange account option in Mail - I set them up last week, no problem).
I have enabled logging in Mail and it appears that the Exchange server is refusing my username or password - both of which are certainly correct.
Using identical settings (albeit with IMAP) in Thunderbird is no problem.
Any ideas on this? It's driving me nuts and I really want to go back to using Mail rather than Thunderbird.
    Many thanks in advance.

I have just replaced an ailing emac running 10.3.9 so to get all my emails transfered, i imported them . I had by this time set up my old accounts affresh .now the old ones fight with the new and try to change the out going smtp server settings I can recieve on all accounts but only send out on one and that is after one and a half days plus a trip back to the dealership-still not right .And somehow it insists on sending my other email accounts through only the one main server which sort of works but changes each time you log in. The computer no longer recognises email addresses sent from my old folders - a serious pain when you have to look up each and every address in old folders.
When you go into the advanced settings the option none is not there but on one occassion all the options changed. Looking at this forum I think giving my emac the kiss of life might have been a better business proposition. As to your problem some info the guy at the store deleted in the key chain info. helped but not sure how he got there

  • I have been receiving the message ' Cannot get mail. The connection to the server failed' but I am connected to WIFI

I have been receiving the message ' Cannot get mail. The connection to the server failed' but I am connected to WIFI.  I have also been receiving  'Cannot send mail, an error occurred while delivering this message.

Hmm, that's odd JeanEB. The error message referts to the connection to your email server not to cellular data or connection to wi-fi. Go to Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars> Select your account and type in your password again. If this doesn't resolve it, delete/re-add the email account.

  • My Apple Mail doesn't work properly on a specific wifi network.

When I'm on a friend's wifi network with my Macbook, Apple Mail doesn't refresh and get new mail. However, all the other internet functionality works just fine on the laptop.
This is specifically the only wifi network that doesn't let my Apple Mail connect to Gmail. Apple mail works properly on any other wifi network.
Are there specific network settings I need to check on the wireless router?

    Hello hi_team,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
It's possible that your friends ISP (or perhaps even his router) is blocking the port that your email account is using to receive mail on. This port number depends on what type of account it is, whether that be IMAP, POP3, SMTP, SecurePOP3, etc. See this article for a list of common port numbers used with these different email account types.
    http://www.emailaddressmanager.com/tips/mail-servers.html
Other than that I don't have too many other suggestions, but I'm sure somebody else will.

  • Mail Doesn't Warn if Subject: is empty

If both the content of the mail body and the Subject header are empty, Mail opens a warning box to let yo u know. But if just the Subject is empty, mail doesn't warn you. Seems like it used to. Now, BOTH body and Subject need to be empty. I would be nice to have it warn if Subject OR body is empty ...

    When actually I needed:

Each mailbox has two settings for the Access Point.  While viewing that mailbox's messages, choose Options -> Settings -> Mailbox Settings -> Advanced Mailbox Settings.  Incoming Email Server and Outgoing Email Server have an "Access Point in Use" option.  Make sure those are both set correctly.
If they are...spare yourself some anguish.  Delete the mailbox completely (if you're using Nokia's Messaging service via email.nokia.com, maybe delete the account from there if such an option exists?) and remake.  That's sure to get it working again.
