Mail doesn't display mails in Inbox after fresh start
After starting my MBP, and on first startup of Mail, I do not see my existing mails within the inbox.
To resolve this issue, I can either:
1) restart Mail
2) switch to an existing mail subfolder and then back to the main inbox.
After either option I see my old mails displayed.
Any idea why this happens?
It started after upgrading to SL, never had this issue under 10.5. before.
Thanks
It gets Mail to rebuild the index for the selected mailbox. If it's an IMAP account, Mail will refresh all the messages from the IMAP server. If it's a PoP account, Mail just reindexes.

T60 Laptop Doesn't Display On-Screen Volume After Hotkey Features Integration Update
I have a ThinkPad T60 (2008-HC6) laptop running Windows 8 Pro (32-bit). Today (1-24-2013), I installed the "Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 8" update that was released on January 18, 2013. After reboot, the on-screen indicator that pops up when I change the volume on my laptop by pressing the volume up, volume down, or mute keys doesn't show up. The keys work fine, but the indicator doesn't display.
I've already tried looking for a solution online. One common solution, installing Lenovo Energy Management, didn't solve my problem. No other software was changed on my laptop between when the power indicator last worked and when I installed the Hotkeys update.
Solved!
Go to Solution.I figured out the problem was with the "On Screen Display" portion of the update. This particular update has two parts to it. First, it adds the "Lenovo Patch Utility" program. Second, it updates the "On Screen Display" program, assuming that an older version was already on the computer being updated. Adding the "Lenovo Patch Utility" didn't cause any harm, but updating the "On Screen Display" prevents the on-screen volume indicator from displaying.
Ultimately, what I ended up doing was removing the "On Screen Display" with the same utility that I used to update it. Then I downloaded the next newest version of the utility and installed that utility's version of the "On Screen Display" program.
My on-screen volume indicator is now back and running fine. -

Mail moves incoming MobileMe mail to "Inbox" after being selected
My wife has three mail accounts, one of which is MobileMe. Under her Inbox I see the three inboxes labeled with the account names (Optonline, .Mac, etc). When mail comes in, it goes to the appropriate Inbox mailbox.
However, when you click on the .Mac mailbox, and see messages, as soon as you single click on a message it vanishes - however, you do see it in "Inbox". the problem with this is the .Mac messages get lost in the clutter.
Is there something I can do that will prevent this from occurring? That is, what I'd like is to have the same behavior as Optonline - the messages stay in the appropriate inbox mailbox til deleted or moved.I've been having a similar problem with a single message. I was unable to remove it from the inbox, but not only would it re-appear when I trashed it, but it would add another copy of itself. This happened in a folder I put it into and in the inbox, simultaneously. Luckily, the cmd-x trick worked for me.
After going through the three folders containing the message (the inbox, the folder I had put it in and the trash), I quit Mail. Like it had been doing, it hung, and I was forced to force quit it. When i re-opened Mail, a single copy of the message was in my mailbox. I did the cmd-x, and then force quit Mail, because (once again) it hung on quit. I reopened Mail and the message was there once again, but when I clicked on it, it showed the "this message has not been downloaded from the server" message. When I cut the message and quit Mail didn't hang, and now it's behaving. -
Automatically move mail from inbox after reply
I want to have rule that automatically moves email from my Inbox to a folder On my Mac after I reply to a message. This functionality is built into Smart Mailboxes but those won't actually move the email anywhere. Can this be done or is their a plugin/script out there perhaps?
rules only apply to incoming messages and won't work here. I don't think what you want is possible at all. any script you write would have to be manually activated after you reply to a message.

Mail quits just after it starts
I had an unexpected shut down (for other reasons) and when my system came back again, I noticed that Mail will not work correctly. It starts, displays the messages in the in box but then (as I see from the activity window) while it synchronizes the rest of the folders with the server (I use IMAP), it hangs for a few seconds and then quits. I removed my ~/Library/Mail folder but it didn't help. I even installed the Mail updater but again I didn't resolve the problem. Any help here will be appreciated!!
Many thanks for the help. I removed the plist fie and started all over again. After importing my settings, Mail again quits! Below is part of what I get. Thanks again for any additional help!

After fresh starting OS 10.6 some programs crashed
When i´m starting my IMAC running on OS 10.6 some programs like firefox or filemaker 9.X will not start or crashes. So i repaired the permissions and after a warm reboot these programs are working, until the next "cold" start.
The permission repair tool wrote 2 warnings:
the SUID -File "System /Library/CoreService/RemoteManagment/...../ARDAgent" was changed and will not repaired.
So to for the following:
The SUID- Datei "System/Library/Private/Framework/DesktopServicesPriv.framework/Versions/A/Reso urces/Locum was changed and will not repaired.
I think the cause of these effects are older software or drivers (like from my HP scanjet 4600), but its difficult to analyse which one is the destroyer of the permission.
No effect was to be seen after stoping some of non apple application startup services in the user account preference place.
Only the warm start after a permission repair helps but its not the way i´d like to work every time.MacinMuc wrote:

For Firefox, try tuning off all add-ons. If things get better, then add them back one at a time to try to identify the culprit(s). You also might try deleting bad and duplicate fonts using Fontbook.

Have you checked on the compatibility of your software in general. Go [here|http://snowleopard.wikidot.com> and [here|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3258].

I would not have expected a fix there.

I would imagine the restarts are what helps, not the permissions repairs. As KT indicates the permission warnings you have received are safety ignored. -
Nearly 200 MB nonpaged pool used in VM after fresh start
I noticed that a newly installed 2012R2 ( smallest instance for that example) has over 200MB nonpaged pool in use.
logman query -ets
WindowsAzure-GuestAgent-Metrics Trace Running
WindowsAzure-GuestAgent-Status Trace Running
WindowsAzure-GuestAgent-Diagnostic Trace Running
stopping These 3 guys
logman stop WindowsAzure-GuestAgent-Metrics -ets
logman stop WindowsAzure-GuestAgent-status -ets
logman stop WindowsAzure-GuestAgent-diagnostic -ets
and NPP usage Drops from 217MB to ~25MB
as much as I'm into diagnostic traces - this eats up ~25% of the available Memory in a 768 MB VM instance.
this is clearly too much.
can These Loggers :
turned off permanently ?
tweked to reduce buffersize and/or numbuffers permanently?
thanks,
ChristianHi,
The memory manager in 32-bit Windows Vista and later, including Server 2008, Server 2012 and Windows 7 (there is no 32-bit version of Windows Server 2008 R2) doesn’t carve up the system address statically; instead, it dynamically assigns ranges to different
types of memory according to changing demands. However, it still sets a maximum for nonpaged pool that’s based on the amount of physical memory, either slightly more than 75% of physical memory or 2GB, whichever is smaller.
Here’s a table summarizing the nonpaged pool limits across different version of Windows:
32-bit
64-bit
XP, Server 2003
up to 1.2GB RAM: 32-256 MB
> 1.2GB RAM: 256MB
min( ~400K/MB of RAM, 128GB)
Vista, Server 2008,
Windows 7, Server 2008 R2
min( ~75% of RAM, 2GB)
min(~75% of RAM, 128GB)
Windows 8, Server 2012
min( ~75% of RAM, 2GB)
min( 2x RAM, 128GB)
Hope this helps !

After upgrade to OS X10.6.7 Mail doesn't display pix. Missing plug-in instead. Already reset Java to default.
Did not find any other suggestion online.
What's happening?Hi
Is it not displaying any type of picture attachment (JPG, GIF, TIFF, PNG)? Is it any message that you view, from any sender?
How did you reset Java? You may want to clear the caches as well. Empty ~/Library/Caches & /Library/Caches/.

Mail app displays the wrong Inbox when you open it.
This problem can be easily reproduced if you have more than one email account configured in iOS 4.x
It should be extremely simple to fix with the next update. I see that this same problem has been mentioned before, but I couldn't update that thread because it's "archived." If you want Apple to fix this, please report the issue to Apple using one or more of the links below:
http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipodtouch.html
http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html (not sure if iPad Mail app is affected)
Here's what I submitted...
Subject:
Simple software design issue in Mail app.
Feedback Type:
Design/Ease of Use
Comments:
Thanks for your work on making iOS better and better with each update! There is no option to provide general iOS feedback, so I'll submit this under "iPhone" and "iPod." I'm currently using the latest iOS (4.3.1).
The native Mail app in iOS has had the Unified Inbox feature since iOS 4.0, which is very useful. However, there is a minor design flaw that could be easily resolved with a software update.
My setup:
I have 3 Exchange accounts on my device (Hotmail, Gmail[Default], Work). The Hotmail Inbox is empty at least 98% of the time because my Gmail account periodically downloads the messages. The only reason I have the Hotmail account entered on my device is to make sure I can see a message in "All Inboxes" even before my Google account retrieves it. On my device, the Gmail account is set as default for Mail and Contacts.
The problem:
I never intentionally select the Inbox for the Hotmail account because it should almost always be empty. I would simply view "All Inboxes." Still, half the time I open the Mail app, it shows the empty Hotmail Inbox. This is very annoying!
I finally figured out how to reproduce it consistently:
(must have more than one account configured)
1) Launch the Mail app and back-up to the screen that shows the list of accounts / Inboxes (I usually try to leave it here when I'm done, hoping to see that screen the next time I open Mail).
2) Without selecting a specific account or Inbox, push the Home button to exit the Mail app.
3) Kill the Mail process from the multi-tasking menu.
4) Open Mail again
Mail will show whichever Inbox comes immediately after "All Inboxes", even if it's not your default account. In my case, it starts in the empty Hotmail Inbox every time...a folder that I never intentionally select. Each time, I have to go back to the list and tap "All Inboxes."
So, if I leave Mail on the root screen before killing the process, it consistently displays the wrong Inbox the next time I open it. If I select an Inbox or "All Inboxes," it will remember that selection and show me that screen the next time I open Mail.
What it should do:
When Mail doesn't know which Inbox to display, it should...
A. Start on the root screen with the list of accounts and Inboxes (preferred option).
or B. Start in "All Inboxes" (secondary preference).
or C. Start in the Inbox of the default account (not preferred, but better than showing an empty/unused Inbox).
Thank you!

Launch the Mail app.
Navigate to the "Mailboxes" page (the page that lists all of your accounts).
Tap "Edit" in the top right corner.
Scroll down to the bottom section of the page, titled "ACCOUNTS".
Drag the triple-bars on the right to reorder the accounts listed. The first account listed will be the one that the app launches to.
Hope this helps, I went crazy trying to figure that out and it worked for me. -
My Pre doesn't display text of incoming mail mesages
Hi,
in the last few days I noticed that the mail program of my Palm Pre doesn't display any plain text of the incoming messages. It normally connects to mail server and load messages, attachements are displayed and open as usual but no text can be viewed. So I have to use web browser to get email. I've tried to delete and recreate the accounts but nothing changed.
Has anyone encountered a similar issue? Is there something I can try to solve this before the reset of the device?
Thanks and merry Christmas to all!
Guido
Post relates to: Pre p100ueu (O2)I just got a Pre over a week ago, and after updating to 1.3.5.1 the other day, I began having the same problem. I'm only syncing with one account, Gmail, and it seems (so far) to only be affecting one sender, a google email group list that I'm on. Some messages from the group contain the body text, some do not and are just blank emails. I've talked with one other person on the list who has a Pre and this just started happening to him too. We both get the email, with sender and everything intact, but upon opening the email, the body of it is not there, it's blank. But the Google Groups Disclaimer that accompanies any google groups email still shows up.
Any solutions would be greatly appreciated. -
How do I keep new e-mails in my Inbox after I've opened them?
When I close a new e-mail in my inbox after I've opened it to read it, it disappears into my old mail box. This does not happen with Internet Explorer. How do I keep an e-mail in my inbox after I've opened it?
Always keep an eye on 'More like this', the column to the right of your initial post. You will often find answers and direct leads to your questions there.

In this case all five options show they are related, and within those are other links. -
I'm tearing my hair out over this. Solve this for me and I'll love you forever! :-)
I have a shell script running on a Linux machine to generate multipart mail messages. These display perfectly in Thunderbird (PC or Mac) but the html is missing when I open them in Mac mail. Switch to plain text and they look fine, but the html just doesn't display.
I've tried Snow Leopard and Lion with the same result.
Anyone come across this problem? Anyone any ideas?Thank you Austin, that was exactly the problem: the overall (multipart/mixed) boundary was properly terminated, but the others weren't.
I must have looked at that a hundred times and not seen it. I've corrected that and now it's working.
I guess thunderbird is just more tolerant of format deviation than Mac Mail!
Just in case it's of interest, here's the complete structure of the message:

Mail doesn't display full email text, only displays the subject line
Mail doesn't display full email text, only displays the subject line.
My preview shows first three lines of email, but when I chose the email specifically mail doesn't display any lines of text. Been this way for about ten days. Please help. BenAwesome. Rebooting the phone worked. I had never turned the phone off before (for the next guy - you hold down the "sleep" button for longer than you'd think and that'll do a full shutdown). thank you for your help.
