Mail doesn't keep junk mail filtering and rules

I noticed that all over sudden whenever I close mail the rules and junk mail setting in mails prefs are not kept anymore so that
I have to enable each rule and junk mail filtering whenever I open mail again.
Used to work fine.
Any idea / remedy ?

Open Disk Utility and Repair disk permissions on the First Aid tab.
Then, Restart and boot into Recovery Mode by holding down cmd-r on restart until you see a gray screen. When the Mac boots, you will be presented with some options. Choose Disk Utility and select your Hard drive volume (Macintosh HD is the default name). Then, on the First Aid tab, click Repair Disk (not permissions).
If that doesn't help, you could try installing the 10.8.2 combo updater from the Apple Downloads site:

  • Client doesn't activate junk mail handling

    Hi All
This started in the GWIA forum, but there we found out that this was not the GWIA not doing things correctly.
I have a spam filter set up in front of the GWIA (ScrollOut F1).
That together with GWIA tags mails as spam, but when it arrives in the client the properties shows
    Junk Mail Handling Evaluation Results
Message is eligible for Junk Mail handling
x-spam-flag was set for this message
So it seems that the GWIA does it correctly, and marks the mail.
    Then below I see this:
Junk Mail settings when this message was delivered
Junk Mail handling disabled by User
    Junk List is not enabled
Junk Mail using personal address books is not enabled
Junk iCal Mail using personal address books is not enabled
    Block List is not enabled
If I look in the Administration Console Client Options I see this:
    Enable Junk Mail Handling (X)
Enable Junk Mail using Junk Mail Lists ( )
Enable Junk Mail using Personal Address Book ( )
Enable Junk Calendaring using Personal Address Book ( )
    Auto-Delete after: (31) days (X)
Enable Blocked Mail using Block Mail Lists ( )
The client is version 14.0.1 13-11-2014. PO GroupWise Agent Build Version 14.0.1 -118418, GroupWise Agent Build Date 11-12-14, GroupWise Resource Build Date 04-07-14.
I've also tried locking the settings on domain and on user in client settings, but that didn't help.

    Hi,
Are you in a position to open a Service Request with Novell Technical Support?
I have picked up that this "bug" has been reported previously to Novell, but I can't see the details of it. I'm going to ask around in the backrooms to see if I can get this tested for you. I'll let you know if I get any information back from the kind folk that I'm asking.
In the interim, test with "Enable Junk Mail using Junk Mail Lists" and see if it makes any difference. I know that in the GWIA thread I asked you to turn this off, but I was just testing something.
Keep us up to date with your testing progress.
    Cheers,

  • Lion mail doesn't allow shortcuts for bold and italics.

    Hi,
I've come across this problem in which Lion mail doesn't allow shortcuts for bold and italics. I try pressing the short cut for Command + B or Command + I
but it does not affect the text at all. I have to move my cursor to the Bold or Italic icon to change a particular word's form.
Of note, Command + U allows me to underline a word just fine. I also write my mail in the default Helvetica, and in size 12.
Anyone know of a solution? I'm pretty sure it's just a glitch, but it's become a great annoyance for me.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Is Mail really "Learning" my junk mail?

I've read various forum threads about training Mail. I might not be doing it right, but I mark spam messages as Junk, and they go to the junk box. It seems I get repeats though, from the same sender, or same subject. Which tells me, it's not doing anything, or, i don't have it set up right. I get a ton of spam though, and it drives me nuts. I switched to Thunderbird on a PC for a couple months, and surprisingly, didn't get but one a day. I finally received my new Macintosh, and really want to use Mail, but all of these spams just drive me crazy.
Here's what I've done so far:
    - We use Postini on our server. All levels are set as high as can go.
    - I started creating "rules" for every single spam that came in, but I couldn't keep up. I must have 50 of them created, and I still get 30-50 spams a day.
    - Now, I mark them all as "Junk" but it still doesn't deter any of these spams. Fortunately, some of the spam emails do go directly into Junk mail, but not as many as I wish did.
I see there are paid add-ons you can use for Mail. I find it hard to believe that there isn't a way using Mail, to at least cut down on all of these spams. If Thunderbird can do it for free, I'd bet there's a way to do it in Mac Mail.. I'm probably just not doing something right. Any ideas would help. Thanks!

    Hi grannysmith.nc,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on exactly what you are seeing with regard to junk mail in Mail under Yosemite. I'm unclear if it is not marking junk mail at all, or if it is marking it but simply not moving it to the Junk mail folder. If it is the latter (not moving), it may be as simple as changing the settings as outlined in the following article under Change the junk mail filter:
Mail (Yosemite): Reduce junk mail in your inbox
If Mail isn't recognizing junk mail at all, you might find these articles more useful:

  • Mail going to the Junk Mail folder but not marked as Junk Mail

    Hi,
Hopefully someone can help me. It's something I had done but I don't know what I have done. All of a sudden all my emails from eBay are going directly to my Junk Mail folder, although when I try to click them as 'Not Junk' (Thumbs Up) they are not even selected as Junk Mail and I can still select them to be Junk Mail.
At the moment I'm just dragging them back into the correct folder but it still keeps happening. (I sell a lot on eBay so it's happening quite often).
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Mail doesn't save sent mail on one of my email accounts.....

Mail doesn't save sent mail on one of my email accounts. I have several accounts, but on one of them it just doesn't save any mail I send. Is there a hidden setting I've missed somewhere? I did delete the account and then reset it, but it took out all of my emails to that address so I'm loathe to do that again!

I'm lucky enough to have two Macs running OS X 10.9 next to each other, both using the same network, and sharing a common Exchange mail server. My corporate machine (an first gen' Aluminium iMac) has both Outlook and Mail installed. My personal machine (a 13" MacBook Air) has only Mail installed.
Neither install of Mail is guarenteed to write sent messages to the Exchange Sent folder (it might happen, it might not). Both write perfectly to other common mail servers (e.g. GMail). Outlook writes perfectly to the Exchange server, but generally functions less effectively as a mail client than Apple Mail.
The failure to write to the Exchange server only happened after the upgrade.
    It's quite frustrating.

  • Filters and rules for Data Synchronizer

Unfortunately or luckily our datasync server is positioned in the internal
network. The main reason is the archiving solution for groupwise mail which
uses a special connector on the datasync server to capture all email for
specific mailboxes. So the entire mailflow can remain in our internal
network and is not transferd out in the DMZ.
But for few devices (like iPhone, iPad or smartphones with Android) with active
sync protocol I want to sync the groupwise email, appointment and contacts
    to that devices.
My problem, however is that the mobile devices want to use a secure connection on port 443 to get over 2 Bordermanager 3.9 SP2 servers.
I did́ t find any examples on filters and rules in the documentation to
    do this.
My idea is to use a nated public ip adress on the outer BM-server and
    acceleration on the inner BM-server.
Maybe I am wrong and there are or is a better solutions.
It would be great, if there is anyone who can help me with this problem
    Best regards

  • How do you keep junk mail from appearing even after I have hit the "junk" button when it appeared the first time?

I have several email accounts that come to my mac.   When junk appears I hit the junk button.   Does it take awhile to train the junk or is there a way to set up mail so that it automatically goes to junk and does not appear at all in my inbox?
It's so time consuming to get rid of this stuff.
    Thanks for any suggestions.
    Grammynancy

Hello, it does take time to train it.
You can setup rules if there's any constancy, like I find that 99.999% of mail from yahoo is junk, so I have a Rule setup to just get rid of it permanently, I never see them at all...
But you could have it be If Subject contains Ciagra, Perform the following functions, Mark as Junk... or whatever.

  • Do I need to keep junk mail in my junk mailbox for it to remember

Do I need to leave mail I mark as junk and have moved into my junk folder in order for the mail app to "learn" that I consider the marked mail as junk?  That is to say, if I delete the mail in my junk folder, will it "forget" that I consider those types of messages as junk, and thereafter start accepting them again?

    No. It shouldn't forget.

  • Mail server prefiltering of junk mail

I am wondering if there is an Apple service, software, etc. or another approach offered by a third party that allows a mac user to filter junk mail before it gets to Mail from any email server.
For example, Yahoo! Mail uses something to filter and conveniently report spam back to Yahoo!. Apple's approach for Mac Mail, I believe, is to use BrightMail on their server, but unlike Yahoo! there is not a quick "click the check box" approach to reporting spam.
OK -- why not just be happy with using mac.com mail and BrightMail? The answer is -- 1) I have other non-Apple email accounts, and 2) BrightMail, unlike Yahoo! Mail requires extra steps to report spam.
I am hoping for one or more of the following: 1) I don't know what's going on, 2) there is a third party approach, or 3) Apple provides a new means for prefiltering via a spam-smart site.
Mac Mini (Intel Core Duo)   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

This happened to me a year or so ago and the only solution I ever found was to delete them all and start over.  Ridiculous.  Why is it happening?
