Mail doesn't put relevant conversations into a conversation. Could this be due to using hotmail and therefore a POP server?

I recently downloaded Lion and was wondering why the conversations in mac mail wasn't working properly. My relpy to the message goes into the conversation, but then the reply from the other person opens as a new message not in the same conversation. Is there a setting I am unaware of?
Could this be becasue I use hotmail and a pop server?

No, this is because Mail is programmed with rigid, inappropriate rules for grouping messages in conversations. There are no settings that can modify either the rules for grouping or the grouping after applying the rules.  Mail  thinks it's smarter than you are and won't listen to any arguments to the contrary.

It sounds like instead of opening your Mail App, you actually opened your Settings App, and were somehow in the 'Add Account' section of Mail, Contacts & Calendars.
Close the apps, and then reopen just the Mail App.

Trying to connect my new Apple TV to the wireless network. When I try to use the remote the Apple Tv doesn't respond ( doesn't go to the next screen). Could this be caused by a weak wireless signal?

It is not properly connected to the network.
Make sure location is set correctly
DNS should be on auto (settings - general - network)
    Try ethernet
Signal strength on device won't account for issues, you would need a network report from istumbler, netstumbler or similar. This will show accurate signal strength along with noise and nearby networks

You were mistaken. It simply is  collection of data about your computer. It is not a diagnostic tool nor can it provide advice on how to fix a problem.
Fans are hardware, and the only way to fix hardware is to take the computer to the Apple shop. As for slowdowns you will need to provide more specific information about what that entails. The report you posted shows nothing unusual about your computer. Your slowdown may just be due entirely to the installation of the Intego AV software which you can safely uninstall. You don't really need it. Your computer should run faster without it.
Sorry, I spoke too soon. You have CleanMyMac installed. Get rid of it.

  • I would like to send out email to a mailing list I put together. How do I do this?

I would to send out a "special offer" to a small mailing list. I have created the list already. Obviously I want to send it as a BCC. How do I do this? Do I address it to myself first and in the following line BCC the Mailing List? I would appreciate some advice please. Thank you.

If you have defined the addressees as a group in your address book, you can just use that one group name. Otherwise you need to select them all from the address book list. A quick way to select all is to turn on the Contacts sidebar (F9), single left click one of them and then hold down the Control key and type A (Control-A). That should highlight all of them. Then click 'Add to Bcc".

  • Sending in Mail doesn't work, Entourage does, Why?

Sending emails in Apple's Mail doesn't work, yet Microsoft Entourage does, Why?
This is the conversation I've been having with my server tech, and they can't find the reason why I can send mail in Microsoft Entourage no problem, yet Apple Mail receives but not able to send any email what so ever..
    Very frustrating.

I'm having a heck of a time trying to SEND emails on the SilverSpiritHomeServices.com system.
    I'm using a Mac.
I can do it in Microsoft Entourage, yet I can't do it in Mac Mail (this is the program I need to be able to use).
Receiving email it works fine, just sending it only works in Entourage.

    Hello,
That definitely seems odd. Since it works fine with Entourage, that would indicate the server is working properly. Additionally, I've tested the SMTP server from here (on a Mac) and am able to connect. I do not have a valid user to send email with, but I can try it if you want to provide me with the one you are trying, temporarily.
As always, if you have any other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. Have a great day, and thanks for choosing Rackspace Managed Hosting!

If you use your ISP’s own email service (instead of a third-party such as Gmail), sometimes it may not work if you roam to another Internet access point, such as a cafe with wireless Internet. Check with your email provider that the settings they give you will work if you plan to roam."

In your report, I notice this:

You need to authenticate before you can send mail so, authentication is a must. To be thorough, I tested both SMTP and POP authentication with the credentials you specified:

    Hello Carl,
Your server only supports CRAM-MD5 and PLAIN authentication. You will need to use plain text authentication. I have never configured mac mail so I do not know how to configure this, you may want to speak with someone a apple support if you have trouble.

  • I dropped my ipod 4 into the toilet. I tried turning it on twice, stupidly. Then put it in rice. Is there any hope for my ipod? and if not is there a way to get all 1500 of my photos? Pleaaase help!!!

Hello i dropped my ipod in the toilet (clean water). Once i took it out of the toilet i pressed the home button and within a second it shut off! :( I quickly dried it with a towel and accidently pressed the top button!  D: and put it immediatly into a bag of rice. 3-4 hours passes and i tried to turn it on nothing happened.  I honestly tjougjt it would be dry...stupidly! and now its on the rice and has been in there for an hour since the last time i triwd turnong it on. Is there any hope that my ipod will be okay? and if not could it be repaired? How much is it to repair? One more question what will happen to my photos, is there a way i could atleast get my photos?!? Please please please help!!!!!! please!!!

Hey Posada143, You can still try the rice thing, but do not expect much, as roaminggnome has stated. The rice only works if you do it ASAP and leave the iPod off-- do not attempt use, turn on or charge until it is completely dried out. This is probably academic at this point but remember this for the next time: The drying can take 10 days. You put the uncooked rice and iPod in a sealed bag, change the rice every couple of days. This creates a low humidity environment and draws the moisture out of the iPod, but it takes time. Turn your iPod on to earlier, and you run the risk of shorting out, damaging the components inside. Even if done correctly it can spotty. If you do get the iPod to work (and this may require Resetting, Restoring or attempting to place it in DFU recover mode) the first thing you do is make backups, because you never know how long it will continue to work. As for your pictures, if you can't get your iPod to work, you can try data retrieval companies, however; there is no guaranty it will work and it tends to be very expensive. In the future get in the habit of as making backups, because you just don't know. And invest in and use a water tight case. Hope this helps, Good luck. Cheers.

Awesome.  Rebooting the phone worked.  I had never turned the phone off before (for the next guy - you hold down the "sleep" button for longer than you'd think and that'll do a full shutdown).  thank you for your help.

when I'm looking at my recent text messages on my phone, and I'm on the screen where I see a list of people I have texted.  I click on a name to open up the conversation, however it is blank and doesn't show the conversation even though we've been texting back and forth the day before.  So my question is how can I see the conversation?

    Try the following procedure:
Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)

  • After recent change to AT&T Uverse Mail doesn't always work

In the last two weeks I changed over from dsl to AT&T U-Verse. I set up the server info according to the instructions from AT&T, but now about every 10th or 15th time I try to "send" a new e-mail out OR reply to an e-mail I received I get this message: 'The SMTP server "smtp.att.yahoo.com" doesn't support authentification. Please check your account settings and try again.'
So, typically I then click 'try later', then go open the note I'm trying to send from the "Outgoing Mailbox" and click "send" and most of the time it goes on out as normal. Why does this happen...obviously it does support "authentification" since I turn right around and send it out using the same outgoing settings.
On a few occasions when this first happened, I went in and changed the outgoing server settings to turn off "authentification", but this didn't work either.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

I have U-verse (grumble, grumble,...caps..., grumble, grumble) and set up (10.6.5) Mail just to get it to work although I use Eudora as my preferred email client (lets not start a religious war here which would be off topic).  Prior to posting this I retested my Mail setup to verify it still works.  So here's how you set up both the ports...
    In Accounts preferences, Account Information:
    Description: anything
Email Address: whatever you want as a return address to appear in the "from" of your email
    Full Name: anything
    Incoming Mail Server: pop.att.yahoo.com
    User Name: [email protected]
    Password: should be obvious :-)
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): Select Edit SMTP Server List... to bring down a sheet to specify the smtp info.
In the SMTP Server List sheet use the "+" to create the server name smtp.att.yahoo.com for the account you are setting up.
    In the Account Information tab:
Set the Sever Name to smtp.att.yahoo.com
    In the Advanced tab:
Click the Use custom ports radio button and enter 465.
Click checkbox to Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).
       Authentication: Password
       User Name: [email protected]
       Password: yet again :-)
Click OK to get back in the Accounts preferences click the Advanced tab.
    In the Advanced tab:
       Set checkboxes per your desires.
       Port: 995
       Check Use SSL.
       Authentication: Password
That should do it.  I just listed all for completeness any others who might not know how to do it.  But I assume you have most of this already.  So basically specify the outgoing (smtp) port from the Accounts Information/Outgoing Mail Server/Edit SMTP Server List... sheet and the incoming port from the Advanced sheet.
