Mail doesn't recognize contacts from my address book

After installing snow leopard it seems that the Mail application doesn't recognize names that are in my address book. For instance when I start a new email, I will start typing a name in the "to" field, where it used to guess the contacts name it no longer does this. I have about 1800 names in my address book, do I have to introduce these to the mail application one by one in order for it to recognize them?

To be more clear (in hopes you can get it to work!) :
Under Mail -> Preferences -> Composing
1. Be sure to CHECK the box that says autocomplete addresses under the Addressing heading.
2. Quit Mail and restart.
If that doesn't work then I would suggest quitting Mail and trashing the Preference file (~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist). Then restart Mail and make sure the box is checked as above and restart Mail. Note that all preferences will be reset to the default and you may need to reconfigure Mail the way you like it. You can always drag the plist file back and restart Mail.app to restore your previous settings.

No, there is no way to do this. The "From:" field will always be exactly what is specified by the account of the person sending you the email, even if you don't have it that way in Address Book. That is perfectly normal and is valid for every email client I've ever used.
The only reason you see the name you have in Address Book when sending an email is because you sent email to that person before, so it's drawing that information from the Previous Recipient list.

iTunes sync doesn't recognize changed groupes in Address Book. What to do?
I've cleared All Contacts on the iPad2 so it is blank now. I want to sync just a particular new group which is the combination of two former groupes which didn't sync correctly.

Any way to force a complete refresh of contacts from Yahoo Address Book?

Any way to force a complete refresh of contacts from Yahoo Address Book?
About once a month I delete all my Yahoo contacts and upload a new file. (That may sound crazy but I do it from a master file (a database) both to Yahoo and Lotus Notes and blackberry via Notes. Only takes a few moments. Works for me.)
When I do this with my iphone it's duplicating some contacts, not a whole lot, but some - maybe 3%. I have reset the sync history before doing this.
So, any way to wipe the slate clean on the iphone and force a one way refresh?

Please check you contact name in the device and verify if the names does not start with none alphabetic characters (e.g. @, &, *, etc). This characters will actually stop the sync process and will not be able to successfully complete the transfer of data. Do the same thing with the contact data you have online just to be sure..
If that it still doesn't work, delete your Google account on the device, restart, and then recreate the same account.

Back it up in iTunes! Just make a backup of the entire device but make sure you check sync contacts and the option to add contacts from phone to address book on computer.

What is the easiest way to make an appointment with a contact from the address book. My idea is that once you identify a contact down the bottom where it has Text message Share contact, add to favorites it would be nice if it had make appointment in iCal. The open up iCal to todays date and go from there with all the relevant details?

This has to do with this information being held in a separate cache in the phone. There are two choices here. You can restore the phone as a new device, which is the only true way to remove this cache; or you can wait until the information is overwritten in the cache, and no one has been able to describe how long that takes, so I would say the only way to really do it is the restore as new, and not from a backup. This will delete all of your data and you will need to sync data back individually.

I don't believe there's much you can do about it...have a look at the "More Like This" pane on the right side of this page.
One way though to eliminate the issue (although not a very good way) is to restore the phone as new.

I assume you are trying to syjnc via IiCloud. Do you have contact syncing enabled in the settings on both devices.

I can see the "AddressBook" file on the old HD (extracted from old machine--which died) and have a copy of that file on to desktop of new machine. [Copied from old HD: Users/home/Library/Application Support/Address Book]. There is an Address Book in the same location on the "MacIntosh HD" of the new machine, but some of the files in that (new) folder have different names. Risky to simply over-ride this. Thanks for the reply Julian, but I tried that and the only cards that show up in that "contacts" folder are the ones that come with the iPod: ipodcreatedsample.vcf and 2 others.
I brought this to the genius bar at my local Apple store, and they couldn't figure out how to do it, so this one is definitely a challenge. The genius bar advice was: "try to find a solution online." Aaack.

Sync does not update Touch Contacts from desktop Address Book

I add names to the desktop computer's Address Book. When I sync the Touch, the new entries do not appear in Contacts. One entry is for "Dave". So I created an entry on the Touch named "Dave" and then synced, to see if it would acquire the data for Dave from the Address Book. Instead it created a new entry in Address Book for "Dave". So there are now two cards for Dave on the computer but the Touch still doesn't know his phone number.
What's going on?
