Mail Doesn't Recognize Mailboxes After Migration

I just migrated all my data from one Mac Mini to a new one (both running 10.9.1).  Everything appears to have migrated properly, and the new machine is a clone of the old - except for Mail.  When I open the Mail app, instead of displaying the various mailboxes of the pre-migrated computer, the app shows no mailboxes and asks me to create a new account - and when I don't, it quits.  I confirmed that all the mailboxes migrated and are in the right place, and all the accounts are active in System Preferences.  It's as if there was a lockfile telling the application to ignore the mailboxes and act as if it were a freshly installed app.
I suspect I could do it the hard way, recreating accounts and importing mailboxes, but I'd really like to avoid that nightmare.  Any ideas?

Ernie,
When I clicked on Connection Doctor, the green light for my 2 sub account and the smtp for all 3 accounts comes on immediately. My main account takes several seconds for the green light. I tried "Try again" a couple of times with the same result. I did find the command, under Mailbox, to bring the accounts online. However, I don't understand why they go offline in the first place.
Thanks for your help.

    HELP HELP

To confirm, your existing mail client isn't communicating with your existing and remote mail services at Dreamhost? Which mail client are you using (Apple mail?), and how is mail on the client set up?
It would initially seem that your client is still referencing the server, either for its inbound or outbound mail. (And I'm not sure how unplugging the server helps here, unless there's some sort of a configuration issue, or a duplicate network address or such.) This would usually be something within the configuration of the mail client.
The Mac OS X Server is significantly easier than the many other servers and server operating systems I've dealt with over the years, but it requires reading the manuals and/or some knowledge of networking and of server environments.
Small shops and home folks without the time or inclination to "spin up" on these server areas can be well-served with some help initially configuring the server. Servers are different from clients. Stuff that you're implicitly used to using when you're running a client -- the DHCP server, for instance -- are what the servers provide you with.
As for Mac OS X Server and particularly if you head outside of the default settings and sequences and off into the customizations, which is what has happened here, you might want to engage some assistance. Not just for the direct and obvious initial set-up sequence, but also for getting you set-up and started with backups and other such tasks. Before you get too deep in here and get too much underway and too much saved on your disks, do seriously consider getting somebody in to help set this box up for you.
Mac OS X Server is not "no IT", but it is rather closer to "less IT" than most. Particularly once you get it configured and running.

  • Clean remote Mailbox after migration

    Hello ,
I am Migrating mailbox users form Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010 SP3 some users after Migration there Mailbox still in exchange 2007 as mailbox user instated of mail user  and in exchange 2010 as mail box user  .
but its for some users .
can you help me please why it happen

    Hi,
Do you mean the mailbox in the original mailbox change to the soft-deleted state?
If so, I recommend you check MAS's suggestions.
When mailboxes are moved from an Exchange 2010 SP1 database to any other database, Exchange doesn't fully delete the mailbox from the source database immediately upon completion of the move. Instead, the mailbox in the source mailbox database is switched
to a soft-deleted state. For more details about this, you can refer to the following article.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/dd298174(v=exchg.141).aspx#SoftDel
Hope this is helpful to you.

  • Mail will not recognize mailboxes backed up before erase and install.

Since my computer was starting to slow down, I figured it was a good time for the old erase and install. Rather than backup the whole "Mail" folder in the library as I should have done, I only backed up the "Mailboxes" and the "POP-address@..." folders. I also backed up the plist folder to go in /preferences/mail.
Now mail won't recognize my old mailboxes. The preferences list clearly worked, and my mailbox folders even appear on the left in mail, but none of my messages are there. When I try to use the "import mailboxes" command in mail, it says that "No valid mail for mac os x were found." The messages are clearly in these folders because if I double click on an individual message, I can see it.
Please help me to get back to my former world. I miss IMAP.

    David Gimeno Gost wrote:

This doesn’t make sense. com.apple.mail.plist, if that’s what you mean, is a file, not a folder, and it should be in ~/Library/Preferences/, not in “/preferences/mail”.
When I try to use the "import mailboxes" command in mail, it
says that "No valid mail for mac os x were found."
Pay attention to the instructions that Mail displays when choosing Mail for Mac OS X as the data format. In the next step, Mail wants you to select the folder that contains the mailboxes to be imported (i.e. the folder where the .mbox folders to be imported reside), not the .mbox folders themselves nor the Messages folders within them. If you select the wrong folder, Mail says “No valid Mail for Mac OS X files were found” because it cannot find any .mbox folders within the folder you’re selecting.
Yes, sorry, the file is in library/preferences.
Your suggestion about paying attention to the folder that the mailboxes are IN worked like a charm. The only problem is that now I accidentally deleted my trash mailbox and can't figure out how to create a new one.
Thank you so much for your help, and I apologize for my ineptitude.

  • Mail doesn't recognize contacts from my address book

After installing snow leopard it seems that the Mail application doesn't recognize names that are in my address book. For instance when I start a new email, I will start typing a name in the "to" field, where it used to guess the contacts name it no longer does this. I have about 1800 names in my address book, do I have to introduce these to the mail application one by one in order for it to recognize them?
Thanks for any help you can give.

To be more clear (in hopes you can get it to work!) :
Under Mail -> Preferences -> Composing
    1. Be sure to CHECK the box that says autocomplete addresses under the Addressing heading.
    2. Quit Mail and restart.
If that doesn't work then I would suggest quitting Mail and trashing the Preference file (~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist). Then restart Mail and make sure the box is checked as above and restart Mail. Note that all preferences will be reset to the default and you may need to reconfigure Mail the way you like it. You can always drag the plist file back and restart Mail.app to restore your previous settings.

  • Apple Mail can't import mailboxes after switch to new Mac

I just purchased a new iMac (running Yosemite 10.10.2) and imported the Time Machine backup from my MacBook Pro (running Mavericks 10.9.5).
When attempting to launch Mail I am forced to import all mailboxes, there doesn't seem to be any way of skipping this step. In the second mailbox (Googlemail IMAP account) I can import 98% of the over 38,000 emails yet import stops at the same place every time. There seems to be something wrong with the file from which Mail is importing.
Is there any way to force Mail to skip this mailbox? Or replace the file Mail is attempting to import from?

  • E-mail doesn't sync automatically after installing...

I'm using an e-mail address under my personal domain in my N8. Everything worked well when using Symbian Anna but now after installing Belle - there's a problem: e-mail doesn't sync automatically.
When I set my e-mail box up will the sync work for few times just fine. But then it stops working. Manual-sync works fine and there's not a single problem. I have tried to re-set the box again and again but in the end it's always the same: syncs automatically few times but then it stops working.
    Any ideas what to do?

I've managed to get sync working again without a reset...
    Went into Mail.
    Deleted all my e-mail accounts.
    Exited the Mail application.
    Turned off the mobile.
    Removed SIM.
    Turned on the mobile.
    Went into Mail.
Went into settings, confirmed there was nothing there.
Tried to add a new account, I was only offered Exchange ActiveSync.
    Exited the Mail application.
    Turned off the mobile.
Held power button for eight seconds (mobile vibrates 3 times and turns off).
    Put the SIM in.
    Turned on the mobile.
    Went into Mail.
Went into settings, set up one e-mail account.
As I'm not interested in Nokia Mail and I want a direct connection, I did the following to set up the account...
Put a false address and password in because I want a direct connection to Yahoo but if I choose Yahoo then I get Nokia Mail's version.
    Chose POP3/IMAP.
    Rejected the terms and conditions.
    Put the settings in manually.
Went back into the settings and chose a syncronisation period of 15 minutes.
Deleted the e-mail widget (I'm not interested in it).
Confirmed it was working by sending myself an e-mail from another address.
Does it work for other people?

  • Pages etc doesn't function anymore after migration

My macbook died and I transferred evrythingl to my IMac using the migration assistant. Before all Iwork apps functioned well on both environments. After migration, none of them works anymore. What to do?!

    Hi mberdasco,
Whether you were using 2010 UI after migrating to SharePoint 2013. If yes, to add a web part page, you need to do as Site Action->Create->Pages->Web Part page, similar to doing in SharePoint 2010.
If you want to use SharePoint 2013 UI after migrating to SharePoint 2013, you need to upgrade site collection as Site Action->Site Settings->Site collection upgrade.
For the second issue, could you give a screenshot about this issue?
    I hope this helps.

  • Mail doesn't send emails after Leopard upgrade!

    Hi everyone..
I am wondering if anybody is facing this as well..
Since I upgraded to Leopard, and Mail retrieves both of my emails on Gmail and .Mac inboxes very well and stable.. But, when it comes to sending, it doesn't.
It keeps on taking forever to finally give me this error "The connection to the server “smtp.mac.com” on port 25 timed out" and of course, I have checked everything the error told me, and no it's not my fault. I thought .Mac mail servers are down, but, no.. My outbox mail lies there for about three days now and no clue how could I help mail succeed sending them.
If somebody faced similar problem, and might have a solution for it, please help.
    Thank you.

    When I try to delete an e-mail . . .
    Error message is as follows:
"The IMAP command “UID COPY” (to Deleted Messages) failed for the mailbox “INBOX” with server error: Error in IMAP command received by server.."
This is my first Leopard bug. The Mail program cannot delete messages using IMAP. Mail worked fine using Tiger, so that is lame. Now I have to use Webmail to actually delete a message. Any thoughts?

  • Unable to open System Attendant mailbox after migration

    Greetings.
I've been working on moving mailboxes from an old exchange 2007 server to Exchange 2013. Both Exchange servers are in the same AD. During the move, the target Exchange server ran out of disk space (Don't ask...), and ended up apparently losing track of its

    Hi,
System Attendant mailbox is required to be available during mailbox moves. For instance, if you have the mailbox store containing the System Attendant mailbox dismounted during a mailbox move, the move will fail.
I recommend you use the Get-Mailbox -Arbitration | fl name, data* command to get the mailbox database in which all arbitration mailboxes reside. Make sure this mailbox database is mounted.
If you deleted it by mistake or it didn't exist in your Exchange(for whatever reason), you need to re-create the AD account by running setup.exe/prepareAD. Once the account is created, configure a mailbox for the account.
