Mail doesn't show images, just the icons eg. .jpeg, .jpg, .png etc.
iMac 24" OS X 10.7.5 Lion, my Mail ver. 5.3 does not show images anymore, just the icon attachments, eg. .jpeg, .jpg, .png etc.
I can click on them and use the open with context menu and open them but they just open as attachments not lined up to the email body as they have always been in the past.
What can I do to get these images back to where they belong?

Open Terminal in Applications>Utilities and paste this in. Then hit return.
defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing 0
To reverse the setting, change the 0 to a 1.

[SOLVED] akregator doesn't show images in the preview pane
I have three different PCs with Arch and kdemod-legacy (that is, kde 3.5.9) and on all of them I use akregator (a RSS/Atom feed reader).
One of the feed I subscribed is from an image board: when new images are uploaded to the site, I'm notified and clicking on the link in the articles section of akregator I can see in the lower pane a thumbnail of the image.
However this doesn't happen on my third pc: I *suppose* the installed applications and libraries are the same between all the machines, and the akregator options seems to be same as well.
Does anybody have an idea about this?

That's right - I don't use that option because it's usually unnecessary: the overview usually does show a thumbnail of the image, and I can avoid loading the entire page.
Anyway, I noticed that switching from RSS to Atom (for the same feed, I mean) solves the issue - so maybe it was related to the type of feed used. -
Mail doesn't show names from the Address Book
When receiving emails from people who appear in my Address Book - the "From" field still shows default names set by the senders, instead of showing the names as they appear in my Address Book.
When composing a new email though - Mail does recognize the names
Is there a way to enforce mail to replace the names shown?

No, there is no way to do this. The "From:" field will always be exactly what is specified by the account of the person sending you the email, even if you don't have it that way in Address Book. That is perfectly normal and is valid for every email client I've ever used.
The only reason you see the name you have in Address Book when sending an email is because you sent email to that person before, so it's drawing that information from the Previous Recipient list. -
I just got an iPhone 5s and it won't let me add my hotmail email address to my mail. I can add it under outlook but then it doesn't show me all the emails or folders I have, I have to login in via the we page to view them, too inconvenient... Please help!
Open Mail app and then click on Mailboxes(Left up)>Go down and select your Hotmail acoount and then try Refreshing by pulling down the list.

I just purchased a new computer and downloaded I tunes but when I go to sync my iphone and ipad touch my library from my old computer doesn't show up on the new one. Only the purchased itune songs come up. How do I get my original itunes library?
Have you copied your content over from your old computer and onto the new on ? If not, and you still have your old computer, then there a number of methods described on this page which you can use to copy your library over : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 . If you no longer have your old computer then have you got a backup of your content that you can copy onto the new computer and add into iTunes ?

I did this and now my videos are not working. They show the pictures aren't there on some and on others it shows they are there, but doesn't show them in the player. When I try to Share anything it just says Waiting for Processing for hours. What do I do?

ThanksI have no idea what may have caused your MacBook to stop working, but from your description it kind of sounds like it may have started before you ran Software Update and installed the new Apps. Just the general slow feeling and bugginess is what tips me off. You said that you weren't sure if you had closed all open windows, that doesn't matter if the computer restarts itself. It automatically closes all other open applications when restarting.
As to your data being retrievable, if when you take it in they do a fresh install of the OS, then no, it will not be unless you want to pay several thousand dollars to a software retrieval company.
I am glad to hear that you have taken into the Apple Store to get it fixed, and that you have all of your purchased music backed up to your iPod. You should be able to just transfer it all back to iTunes once you get your computer back should it be necessary.
As a side note, the proper place for this topic would probably in the MacBook forums, not iTunes since there is no evidence that iTunes started the issue. -
How do I get the red number of already read e-mails NOT to show up in the iMail icon on the dock? I only want the number of "unread" e-mails to display in red on the iMail icon.

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include clicking here and picking a method for your country, phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, and filling out and submitting this form.

Finder doesn't show image dimensions

I have a problem with image dimensions in Finder. Finder doesn't show image dimension info in preview column and Get Info window. But when I open in Preview app I can see dimensions in Get Info window. How to solve this problem. If I want to sort images by dimension, I can't do that. Mail doesn't show new messages
Mail sometimes doesn't show new messages for an IMAP account. The badge in the dock says that there is a new mail but it doesn't show up in the inbox. I'm sure that I didn't just miss it, because, smart mailboxes will not find that new mail as well. When I restart mail, the mail finally shows up in the inbox as well.
Anybody else seeing this and what can I do to resolve that issue?
Thanks!I'll bring everyone up to speed on what's been happening with my family accounts. I first suspected Safari, because it seemed to be a local problem, but then, inexplicably, all mobileme mail accounts tied to that family account, which included 4 subaccounts and 1 mail-only account, not only did not work in mail.app, but also failed in other email clients I tested, including clients on Linux. Also, the webmail version was not working well, either.
So, if your problem is isolated to a single computer and just to mail.app, or just with a particular network, then I think the local troubleshooting steps are the way to go.
But, if your problem extends to other platforms, clients, and webmail, then it is likely an issue the engineers at Apple will have to figure out. I found the online chat service for mobileme users to be very helpful in checking through all the 'usual suspects' and after we had pretty much ruled out any of the usual culprits, it was escalated to the engineers, who are working on it now.
They were able to release all the email that had been piling up, but there are still some glitches they are trying to iron out. As an aside, I have been personally managing various mail servers for a dozen years, and am well aware of the difficulties in diagnosing email problems, and it was stumping me, and I have intimate knowledge of Exim and Exchange and various email modules used with mx services.

Of all the services provided on the Internet, email, is arguably the most complex service and it's become much more complex in the past few years. In my work, typically 94% of all email traffic hitting the server is filtered out as spam. So, the 6% that is allowed through is the stuff most of us see and are spending time and resources filtering out the 20-40% additional unwanted spam that the host let through because if they tightened it down any further the risk of false positives would become too great. I spend way more time on the mail service aspects of my job than the web services, and mail problems occupy at least 80% of my troubleshooting logs. So, while email seems more 'simple' than the exotic and bandwidth intensive services like video chat, voip, and web2 transactions, compared to the amount of wasted bandwidth and cpu cycles filtering packets, I think email is the number one problem service for most host providers. We tried to depend upon it for mission-critical communications, and it was never designed for that initially, and the spammers are making certain it won't achieve that status at least in the near future. If anything, email is your least dependable Internet service. Combine this with the growing array of user configurations, email clients, forwarding/retrieving/syncing scenarios, and user experience, and you may find yourself uttering a little prayer now and then for the poor email administrators and support personnel.+

Why Mail doesn't show content of emails?
Since some days Apple Mail doesn't show always the content of an e-mail message. In the window at the right hand of the columns with folders and incoming mail and in the fullscreen mode only the headers (To, From, Subject) are visible, not the content (text, images, attachments). If there is an attachment, I can see that by clicking 'show in Quicklook'.
The problem started a couple of days ago. And sometimes Mail shows the content after receiving an e-mail, immediately after a first view no more.
Rebuilding the mailbox doesn't change this.

Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click the text on the line below to select it:
~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is corrupt and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results. -
"sent" mail doesn't show up, missing reply emails, sudden "deleted" emails
I have been hving some problems with Mail recently, three issues have become major Pains in the ***:
1. Just about every 3 or 4 emails that I send from my .mac account seem to go through but a copy or receipt of them don't show up in the "sent" mail folder/area.
2. If I reply to an email in my in box, it will show the little "you replied to this email arrow icon" but when I click on the arrow, it will say that the message "has been deleted or missing"
3. Lastly every 3-4 emails - As I am writing the note a window will pop up and say that the "email cannot be saved" but allows me to click "OK" and then continue typing the note and will sent it just fine.
Is there a master reset on Mail or can I reinstall just the Mail program ? ( i really don't want to do that) I ran disk utility and my drive seems to be fine, the permissions are good.
any help would be great.

MBP 15" 1.83GHz core duo 1.5GBramm Mac OS X (10.4.8)I'm having the same problem, although it is not with a .mac account, it is with IMAP accounts, which to the best of my knowledge is the server type used by .mac.
The weird part about all of this is that I use several e-mail accounts on my computer... one of them is a POP3, the rest are IMAP. Historically every message I've sent, regardless of the account, has been stored in the Sent folder, now only mail being sent from the POP3 account is being stored.
After unchecking the feature to store sent mail on the server for one of the IMAP accounts and sending a test message from IMAP address to POP3 address everything seemed to be working fine.... but I don't like that I had to do that. One of the reasons I use IMAP is so that I don't have to worry about what e-mails are stored where, because I use multiple computers.... but once I start telling my portable Macbook to no longer store outgoing messages on the server.... that could become a problem for me.
I've tried rebuilding the mailboxes several times to no avail. (Although I'm not entirely sure what rebuild does, I thought it'd be worth a shot)
And yes, my network card settings are just fine.
It might be worth noting that I've done a substantial amount of software updates over the past few days, and if I knew how to get you a list of those, I would. -

I have MSI GT 70 ONC Laptop with NVidia 670M (2GB) graphics card. I also have Sony Bravia 3D TV.
I can play 3d movies on laptop and can watch them on my 3d TV using HDMI cable fine although my laptop doesn't have 3d display.
I am trying to use my laptop which doesn't have 3D display but has Graphics card which supports 3D to play 3d games and see them on my 3D TV.
I checked online and found out that I need to change "Stereoscopic 3D" settings in NVidia control panel but Stereoscopic 3D option doesn't show up in the control panel. Very few options are there. I have updated drivers to the latest level but still can't see "Stereoscopic 3D" option in NVidia control panel. So will you be able to help me out what I can do to see the option? I was actually very angry with MSI. Because they do not mention in the description. They promot just the gtx card. And forgot to mention about the hdmi connection.
Forget the 3d tv. Or you can buy an external mini pci-e graphics card adaptor.

Check the S.M.A.R.T. status on your HD: Boot from install disc (insert disc > restart > immediately hold down the c key and keep holding it until you see “Preparing Installation”) > at first screen select the language and click Continue > click on the Utilities Menu in the menu bar > select Disk Utility > select your HD in the panel on the left side (the name of the HD’s manufacturer and the model number, usually the top item in the list) > look at the bottom of the main window next to S.M.A.R.T. status and see if it says “Verified” (good) or something more ominous like “Failing.”
If S.M.A.R.T. status is "Verified," run Repair Disk > click Repair Disk at bottom of main window. Run this at least twice, and keep running it until it says “appears ok” twice in a row. If that doesn’t happen, you may need a stronger utility (such as DriveGenius, TechToolPro, DiskWarrior) or if the directory is damaged beyond repair, you may need to reinstall the OS, or you may have a damaged HD which will need to be replaced (repair utilities can only repair the directory structure, not the HD itself). When this is finished, quit Disk Utility, quit the installer, and restart. Once booted normally, go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility and run Repair Permissions.
