Mail download is extremely slow

Downloading Email into my G4 OS 10.4.11 has recently become very slow.
A speed test showed the download speed to be 350 Kbps to 450 Kbps. Upload
speed was about 1.8 Mbps.
Two other computers connected to the same router had download speed in
excess of 6.5 Mbps, and upload speed of 1.8 Mbps.
Other applications on the G4 computer seem to be operating at normal speed.
Is this a hardware problem or a software problem that could be fixed by doing
a disk repair with Disk Utility?

Hello,
Could be a few things, is this an IMAP account or POP?
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup),  it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
Reboot.
Then... Try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers, for the Interface you connect with...

iTunes download is extremely slow or not working, am I the only one experiencing this, iTunes download is extremely slow or not working, am I the only one experiencing this?

I do not have a solution, just the same complaint.  ***!  !    I just used the iTunes store 2 weeks ago and now, after reviewing everything they asked for including ID/Pass/ Account Info etc.  I can't even get into the store.  I have tried asking at the Mac store and it has all been to no avail.  I was perfectly happy with iTunes before all of this ********... seriously what is the issue with iTunes?  They ask me to upload a new version (with no system specs anywhere that I can find on the page)  and then say it can't utilized because of system inadequacy.  It is exceedingly frustrating.

  • Download speeds extremly slow for CS6 trial version

I am trying to download the trial version of CS6 using the Adobe download assistant. It is extremely slow (Currently saying it will take another 15 hours to download.) It has been stuck at 987 MB for over two hours. I have a very fast fibre optic line and just did a speed test. I am seeing download speed of 75.79 Mbs so it is not my broadband. I am on Mac OS Lion 5.7.  and have plenty of empty disk space. Any ideas of what the problem is?

so it is not my broadband.
Actually it probably is. Due to how ADM work sthere may be issues on such connections due to how they handle upstream communication and may dynamically switch IPs/ channels in their multiplexers.... Try a direct download using the method described here:

  • The video downloading is extremely slow after downloading Flash Player Active X (IE) and FP Plug-in

I have Windows 7 on a 64-bit operating system, and have Firefox 19 and Internet Explorer 8. I tried installing Flash Player 11.6.602.171 from the Adobe Website and got an error message right at 47% download "can not contact reliable source." I also tried uninstalling whatever Flash Player I had, but I continued to get the same error message at 47% "can not contact reliable source." Finally, following the advice found in the link below under "Program Bar Hangs During Download," I downloaded Flash Player ActiveX (internet explorer) and Flash Player Plug-In (all other browsers). It appeared that both downloads were successful and I verified that the installation was complete in the link below under "Verify that installation is complete." It says I have Flash Player 11.6.602.171. My issue now is that whenever I watch videos that use Flash Player, the downloading of videos is extremely slow.  For example, a 45 second youtube video might take 30 minutes to watch. I have tried everything (from General Info, Download Issues, Installation Issues, Post-Installation Issues) in this Adobe installation problem page http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-windows.html but the problem has not improved. Can someone please help me? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

First, I went on this link under Progress Bar Hangs During Download
    http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-windows.html#mai n-pars_header
and then I downloaded Flash Player directly by clicking the links provided Flash Player for ActiveX (IE) and then Flash Player Plug-In (All browsers).  After my installations were complete, I tried watching any youtube videos or videos on www.ABC.com and the loading of videos was extremely slow.

  • All downloads are extremely slow and time out

Every file, video, attachment or anything I try to download from the internet start downloading and then slow right down to almost 0 kb/s and then usually all time out.  Does anybody know why this is??

I dont believe so, the connections seem fine and using the internet is not slow at all

  • Problem downloading - OTN extremely slow in general

Cannot download 10201_database_win32.zip which is located on http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/htdocs/10201winsoft.html
In general OTN appears to be getting slower by the day.

    It's your machine or setup...
Using a dual G5 2ghz with 6 gigs of ram, 1DsMII and 3 files show no slowdown (other than the 1DsM3's taking a bit of time opening and getting rid of the rendering triangle).
Once open, sliders respond immediately and switching between panels is fast even with 4.3.1 at full screen.
You don't mention what ram you've set for Photoshop...and this can have an impact since Camera Raw must get it's ram allocation from Photoshop and if you run PS with a too high ram allocation you can see slowdowns and spinning beach balls. Even with 5 gigs, you prolly don't want the ram allocation to go beyond 75% or so.

  • TV Downloads are extremely slow

Does anyone know a way of speeding up the download process. Itunes 7 is a lot slower than itunes 6 or maybe i'm just doing something wrong

It's not that iTunes 7 is slower, it's that all videos are now in 640x480 format (previously they were 320x240) so they're a lot bigger to download. The only way you're going to speed things up is to get a faster Internet connection, I'm afraid.

  • Downloads are Extremely Slow!!

Downloads of Word docs, Powerpoints are painfully slow. I use Safari. Switching to Firefox, the application crashes. This is not a positive upgrade!!

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions..
    Are you asking for help?
For Safari, if you have any 3rd party plugins, they may not be compatible with SL.
Go here: ~/Library/Internet Plugins If there are any apps in that folder, send them to the Trash.
How much free space on the startup disk?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.
If you didn't repair disk permissions after installing SL, try that.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Office mail merges are extremely slow after upgrade to Exchange 2013

Ever since we migrated from Exchange 2007 to 2013 SP1, our employees have reported that mail merges are taking triple the amount of time to send messages. What used to take an hour is now 3 to 4 hours. Some offices are required to send upwards of 6,000
messages at a time. I know Exchange 2013 handles throttling differently than previous versions however the default (global) ThrottlingPolicy was sufficient with our previous 2007 installation. I've never had to deal much with Throttling so I'm not exactly
sure of what settings I should be looking at....also I'm not sure if this would even be related to throttling. Has anyone experienced this issue before with Exchange 2013 and could you provide any recommendations or settings that I need to be focusing on in
relation to Outlook client connections? We are currently using the GlobalThottlingPolicy for all users.

    Hi,
    What’s the version of Office?
The following Outlook client versions are fully supported by Exchange server 2013.
    Outlook 2013
Outlook 2010 SP1 with November 2012 Cumulative Update ( available from
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2687623 )
Outlook 2007 SP3 with November 2012 Cumulative Update ( available from
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2687404 )
I suggest to upgrade one office client to Outlook 2013 (with word 2013) to check this issue.
    Best Regards.

  • Slow download cloud extremely slow

Tried downloading three times from 2 locations work and home - good internet speeds at both locations and can download videos etc fine from other URL's.
    However using Adobe Creative Cloud downloader;
Acrobat took over an hour yesterday at work then at home to download.
Today downloading Illustrator and after 1 and half hours download is at 17%.
    Is this normal?
Is there any alternative ways to download these aplications in a reasonable manner?

    Hi Ali_##,
The download of the apps depends on the internet speed. However you may try the direct link to download CC apps: http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cc-direct-download-links.html .
Kindly follow the very important instruction before download.

  • HT1338 My Apple mail is operating extremely, frustratingly SLOW.

My Apple Mail is operating extremely slow. Incredibly frustrating. Slow to load/open messages, delayed when typing messages, painfully slow scrolling through messages. Please Help!

I have been using Apple TV since it came out. While Christmas shopping I saw a great new little Apple TV and thought what a great Christmas present, they are so small now. I bought 4 - yes Apple FOUR.
What I can now tell you is the new one does not compare to the old one in terms of speed. Firstly, when I rent a HD movie on my new Apple TV (tonight for example) the TIME it displays for the download to complete is over 4 hours. Yes, FOUR hours. It also seems that this new Apple TV wants to download the entire movie before I can watch, quite unlike the old apple TV. After 2 hours of downloading, it displayed an error and stopped the download. I then fire up my OLD Apple TV and within 3 minutes (I am not joking come to my house and check it out yourself!) the SAME movie. Even though I had to rent it AGAIN (more money down the drain). I have checked with the three family members I also bought a new apple TV for and they have the exact same issues.
Apple, can you please swap 4 NEW Apple TV's for 4 Old Series please?

  • Extremely slow downloads from cloud

When updating and downloading from adobe cloud through the adobe viewer on iPad, the downloads are extremely slow and unstable, making updates and proofing a nightmare.
All other network funtionality is fine, it's only this proces and it's company wide, whether at home or office.
is this a universal problem? Any fixes?

Apparently Adobe is having server problems. Other users have reported problems today.

  • Extremely slow download (8 kbps) and using "show local-host" to troubleshoot

I have a USB device that gets firmware updates from the manufacture, the download of the firmware is very fast at other sites and at home except 1 site.  I found the following difference on the 2 ASAs (one where the download is fast the other where the download is very slow and cannot be completed) using "sh local-host" command. I think the ESP connection is the problem but I am not sure why its there - and I can see the byte count increment very slowly.  What would cause this connection to use ESP?

  • IOS 8.0.2. download extremely slow ( 15 hours)

Want to update my iPhone to iOS 8.0.2., but software download is extremely slow, showing a download time of 15 hrs. Internet connection is working well, with tests showing speeds of 100 Mbps. Downloads of App updates are very fast as usual too. Is this a server issue? If so, the problem exists since over 8 hours.

If you unplugged the phone from the computer, you have already interrupted the download and install process. An update via iTunes is not a Wifi update, so once it's unplugged, it is not going to start up again.
Reset the device: Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the reset is complete, the "Slide to Unlock" screen will display. Go to Settings>General>About, and see what version number is showing. If it is 8.0.2, then you should be good to go. If it is not, hook the device back up to iTunes and start the update again.
    Cheers,

  • Yosemite OS X Mail using exchange is slow

Mail is running extremely slow connecting to exchange.
Overnight, it quite working all together and would not download new messages.
I rebuilt the mail box and it's working again but is very slow.
Any suggestions for how to help this new version of Mail play better with Exchange?
    Mail: Version 8.0
    Yosemite: 10.10
    Late 2012 MBPro/Retina

I bumped into this problem too, and found a work around.  Upon retrieving mail from our Exchange email server, I would experience long delays whenever clicking to view a new email in the list.  In my set up, I have a mac with a wired ethernet connection.  After Yosemite installed, it created a wireless connection which was presumably used for the new "Continuity" features.   After diddling around with various different solutions that didn't work, I decided to disable the wireless network yosemite created.. thinking the new continuity support may be the culprit.  After disabling this extra wireless connection,... my email delays went away... no more exchange issues.
Of further interest... I had zero performance problems with other POP or IMAP clients... just exchange.
No idea if this will help you, nor why it helped me in fact, but it did completely resolve it for me.  Hope it helps someone else...
