Mail Driving Me Nutso

Hi guys,
on formatting my hd and reinstalling the applications, I decided to configure my Mail and import my Gmail account. Its been 4 hours and I am still at it! I didnt want to go via the Pop route since I wanted to import my folders as well. Setting imap account was a breeze but post that its been a nightmare.
Firstly Mail decided to import all my emails which were 4000 plus. After that I thought I'll just delete the emails stored on my mbp. Everytime I would delete my emails, they would pop back up again! This went on for hours even after I fixed my permissions , restarted, rebuilt my account etc.
Then I think I messed up a little and ended up deleting all my emails on my Gmail server (nearly had an heart attack). After this traumatic experience, I reopened my Mail and saw that its now importing 9000 messages (which I dont understand all the messages on my Gmail account got deleted) and all my emails till date got stored in a folder called "All" under the Gmail tab. This had made me completely nuts as I dont understand whats going on!
So two questions:
How do I configure my account without losing my sanity.
Is there anyway I can restore the deleted messages that are stored on my Apple Mail to my web based Gmail account?
Thanks

Just setup your gmail account as if it is a new account. Don't try to import anything yet.

I doubt it. You can import your old messages into a new "On My Mac" mailbox. They won't be in gmail, but they will still be accessible.

  • Weblogic deployer doesn't work under 9.2, driving me nutso! =P

    I've tried everything trying to get the deploy/undeployer to work (tried http, t3 etc.)
    Example ant task:
         <target name="undeploy">
              <path id="xdoclet.lib.path">
              <fileset dir="${weblogic.lib.dir}">
              <include name="*.jar"/>
              </fileset>
              </path>
              <java classname="weblogic.Deployer" fork="true" maxmemory="256m" failonerror="true" classpathref="xdoclet.lib.path">
         <arg line="-adminurl http://localhost:7001"/>
         <arg line="-username weblogic"/>
         <arg line="-password express1"/>
         <arg line="-name t1scp3"/>
                   <arg value="-undeploy"/>
                   <arg value="-debug"/>
              </java>
         </target>
    I've also tried using the ant task that comes with weblogic, but I always get this error! (I can ping the server using the ping class)
    Any ideas? (Stack trace below)

  • How to organize Mail folders?

    Hello,
    I am having a heck of a time trying to figure out how to do something in Mac Mail (I'm on Mountain Lion with a MacBook Pro with Retina Display).
    In the past (pre-Mountain Lion), I had individual folders for each of my mail accounts. For example, I had a folder for Comcast mail, Gmail, Hotmail, iCloud, and Yahoo. In the left-hand column of the main Mail window, it was nicely organized so that there was the "main" folder for a particular email service, and then underneath that folder there would be other folders such as Sent, Trash, etc.
    However, the way it appears now is that there is one single "Inbox", and underneath that Inbox are MORE Inboxes, with each one being a different mail service. For example, under my Inbox, the next thing down is "POP Account", then "GMail", then iCloud". But they ALL fall under the main heading of "Inbox".
    I really don't care for it to be set up this way. I much prefer having a dedicated Inbox for each mail service, and then the various folders that relate only to that service underneath.
    I hope I'm describing this correctly. For years, it was set up the way that I liked it. I'm not sure when it self-changed to the way it is now, but I really don't care for it. I've gone through all of the menus and I can not figure out how to get it back to the way it was.
    Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    The “On My Mac” folder has never existed as such, neither in Mail 1.x nor in Mail 2.x. Mail uses that term to differentiate custom mailboxes stored locally on your computer from mailboxes stored on the server of IMAP accounts.
    In Mail 1.x such mailboxes appeared in the mailbox list grouped under an “On My Mac” icon, whether that’s how you wanted them to appear or not. In Mail 2.x, this changed to offer greater flexibility in how the user wants his/her custom mailboxes to be organized — see Mail Help’s “My mailbox organization was lost after upgrading Mac OS X” article. This allows the user to have multiple top-level “On My Mac” hierarchies, or name the group differently, or have custom mailboxes appear directly at the top level of the mailbox list for greater convenience, etc.
    To answer your question, no, you aren’t stuck with how Mail organizes custom mailboxes, but as you have found out, Mail has some bugs & glitches when it comes to reorganizing mailboxes, and you should make a back up of at least your ~/Library/Mail/ folder before start making changes, just in case.
    I sometimes reorganize my own custom mailboxes by renaming and/or moving them, and have never experienced any issues myself, so you should certainly be able to do things like that. There are only two things I recommend not doing in Mail when reorganizing mailboxes:
    1. Even though Mail allows it, don’t use a folder as both a mailbox (i.e. to store messages of its own) and as a parent folder for other folders.
    2. Never, ever, rename a folder just to change its capitalization. If you want to change from uppercase to lowercase or vice versa, rename the folder to something different first.
    A more thorough discussion of these issues, for those who might be interested, can be found in the following thread, for example:
    Mail - lost mail - driving me mad

  • HELP - The content in my mail messages has disappeared

    HELP -I've been trying to organize hundreds of messages (sent and received) so I've been creating mailboxes and submailboxes, without problem except for the occasional (you can not move this mail) message which I have not understood.
    I just created a submailbox and moved about 50 messages there which had a common topic. All of the messages are listed in the top window (with title date and time received), but the contents are gone. The only thing in the lower window is the same message for each email:
    "The message from Executive Producer <[email protected]> [OR WHOEVER THE SENDER IS] concerning “studio feasibility?” [OR WHATEVER THE TITLE OF THE MESSAGE IS] has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it."
    HELP. Are these messages gone forever? Can I get them back? What did I do wrong?
    PS - I'm still receiving new messages, so the account is online. And the messages are from a few different accounts to a few different email addresses of mine (and vice versa), but they are all blank.

    Ernie,
    Mail allows the same folder to behave as both a mailbox and as a parent folder for other folders. Each aspect of this duality is supported by a different folder in the filesystem (.mbox suffix for the mailbox, no suffix for the parent folder), even though it appears as a single folder in Mail.
    When the user creates a new folder by means of Mailbox > New Mailbox, Mail assumes it’ll be used as a mailbox (as the name of the command indicates) and the .mbox variant is created in the filesystem. If the user later creates or moves other folders within this folder, Mail creates the no-suffix variant in the filesystem and puts the subfolders there, but nothing appears to change in Mail itself.
    Folders appear blue in Mail as long as there exists an associated .mbox folder in the filesystem, regardless of whether a corresponding folder without suffix exists as well. Only folders that don’t have an associated folder with an .mbox suffix in the filesystem appear white in Mail. That is, a folder appears blue in Mail as long as it can behave as a mailbox (i.e. store messages of their own), and white if it can only be used as a parent folder for other folders.
    Problem is, Mail doesn’t handle this duality very well. I always recommend users to use each folder as either a mailbox or as a parent folder, but not both. From what I’ve seen reported here many times, “taking advantage” of the duality is calling for trouble, e.g.:
    Mail - lost mail - driving me mad

  • B&W G3: Reset mobo/new batt. won't help - no chime, just fans/HD

    So I decide to give this old G3 I had one last boost from what was already a snappy machine.
    - Rev. 1 mobo
    - Powerlogix 800Mhz 750FX 512k L2 cache (G3)
    - 1 GB RAM
    - ATI 9200 128 MB PCI
    - SIIG ATA card - 2 HDs connected.
    - USB 2.0 4 port card
    - FW400 3 port card
    So, I get a good deal with trade in from OWC on a Powerlogix 750GX (G3) @ 1 Ghz. Figure I'd bite...update the beast to Tiger, set it in a corner, and use it for surfing, iTunes, maybe a server in a future life (yes, yes, I know the Mac Mini price/performance ratio...I just couldn't let this Smurf go. My Digi Audio holds me over well otherwise).
    So, swapping the new ZIF in (standard procedure - had upgraded many a ZIF over the years). Go to boot...no chime. The usual: PS and fans just running.
    Checking the LEDs on the board indicates all is well. I pull all the cards, leave one stick of RAM, plug one of the HDs (both set as master) back into the board's connector. As bare bones as one can get.
    Reset the Cuda. Same. Reset the mobo. Same.
    Pull the HD from the equation. Figured just try to get a chime. Nada.
    Pulled the RAM in hopes of a getting a hardware chime warning. Zip.
    Picked up a new PRAM battery. Reset Cuda again. Same. Reset mobo...yup, same.
    I don't get it. The thing was booting no more than 15 minutes prior, running Tiger on the 800 Mhz G3. Replacing the 800 Mhz reveals the same situation...
    Any suggestions? I was thinking about swapping the board to a Rev. 2, but that entire "hey it worked 15 minutes ago" circumstance is driving me nutso.

    Demitrios,
    Put your bootable HD connected to the ATA port on the Motherboard. Disconnect any HD from the ATA card.
    Reset CUDA. And restart the mac.
    Hope this help

  • How can I print a PDF document in OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion?

    I just upgraded to OSX 10.6.3 and now 10.8 Mountain Lion.  I am extremely disappointed that I can no longer print (to my printer) ANY PDF documents either through Adobe or straight from a website.  Is there a way to deactivate the security feature that is blocking this?  I also own the newest version of Parallels (desktop 7) and cannot print through Windows either.  It's beyond annoying.  Thank you!
    Matt

    I can print (such as e-mails, driving directions, etc), but nothing that is related to Adobe or PDF.  I have a Dell 1710 printer that is connected to my airport extreme wirelessly.  The printer has always worked on my I-mac since I bought it in 2007.  It stopped printing PDFs ont he Mac when Adobe was upgraded about a year ago.  I was then able to print through Adobe in Parallels/Windows.  Since the new OSX 10.6 and 10.8 came out, nothing prints through Adobe in either place.  I hope that helps.

  • ARGH!!! Distiller 8 refuses to see Watch Folder!?!

    Okay, this whole Acrobat 8 hoo-har is driving me nutso! I have to finally admit defeat and ask for help...
    We've been running Mac OS Acrobat 4 through OS X Acrobat 7 with virtually no problems whatsoever for years. And now the second we switch over to Intel Macs and Acrobat 8, we have nothing but one problem after the next...
    Since all I've experienced are Distiller ioerror issues (myself and other people on this forum) with Intel Macs and Leopard, I decided to throw in the towel and downgrade back to Tiger for our production stations and attempt to create a valid workflow with CS3 and Tiger, since there seems to be far too many unresolved issues with Distiller 8 and Leopard.
    Now I'm no dunderhead when it comes to setting up Distiller workflows, I've been doing this for years for our newspaper and others in our group. But every single time I set up a watch folder in Distiller 8 or the 8.1.2 update, the resulting .ps file is passed from the Inbox straight to the Outbox without an error and without a PDF being produced.
    Here's the log file entry:
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
    Distilling: 63011115.AD.ps
    Start Time: Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at 4:10 PM
    Source: /Users/craigwright/Desktop/PDF FILES TO LONDON/In/63011115.AD.ps
    Destination: /Users/craigwright/Desktop/PDF FILES TO LONDON/Out/63011115.AD.pdf
    Adobe PDF Settings: /Users/craigwright/Desktop/PDF FILES TO LONDON/folder.joboptions
    Distill Time: 7 seconds (00:00:07)
    **** End of Job ****
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
    It's the weirdest thing. You can see the output file in the listing above, but there's never a PDF produced.
    Dragging the .ps file onto the Distiller window itself produces a perfect PDF, but Watch Folder workflow is completely broken.
    Here's an example log from a postscript file dragged onto the Distiller window:
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
    Distilling: 63011115.AD.ps
    Start Time: Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at 4:07 PM
    Source: /Users/craigwright/Desktop/63011115.AD.ps
    Destination: /Users/craigwright/Desktop/63011115.AD.pdf
    Adobe PDF Settings: /Users/craigwright/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PDF/Settings/London Free Press.joboptions
    Processing prologue.ps...
    Done processing prologue.ps.
    Processing epilogue.ps...
    Done processing epilogue.ps.
    Distill Time: 18 seconds (00:00:18)
    **** End of Job ****
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
    ...you'll notice that the file dragged onto the Distiller window had its prologue.ps and epilogue.ps files processed. This was not processed by the Watch Folder method. And YES, I did check the settings file under the Watch Folder options and they ARE set to process the file's prologue and epilogue.
    The settings for the "folder.joboptions" and "LONDON FREE PRESS.joboptions" files are absolutely identical.
    Now, I can remove the folder from the Watch Folder queue, destroy the folder on the desktop and create a new one, adding it to the Watch Folder list in Distiller every time, and it does the same thing every time.
    I've tried re-installing CS3, I've tried fixing permissions, I've tried updating and downgrading Acrobat and Distiller to and from the latest fixes. I've tried font cache rebuilds (I know it's not related, but I'm clutching at straws here). Nothing works.
    Does anyone have any clues?

    Hi Jon...
    Thanks for your help, but...
    I checked the privileges on the files I'm generating. All of the .ps files I'm creating from QXP 7.3 are read-write.
    I'm not quite sure what you mean by getting users to log into the server as the server name. We're using Distiller on a per-client machine basis, not a server scenario with users sending files to a remote station for processing. The client stations use an ad tracking application to pull ad content from our server farm to their station, they work on the ad and create a PDF by sending a postscript file to a watch folder on the desktop. Each station has its own copy of Acrobat 8 Pro.
    Once the PDF is produced, they send the ad back to the storage server.
    I've also checked the drive, fixed permissions, and even destroyed the plist files, forcing Distiller to recreate them from scratch.
    I've created a new watch folder, added the current Distiller settings file to it - nothing.
    I've destroyed the watch folder and its attached settings, created a new folder to watch with a different naming convention, and added a new Distiller setting set to it manually. Nothing.
    I've tried erasing the drive, installing Tiger from scratch, installing the latest builds of CS3, QXP and Suitcase, creating a new folder, adding a new watch queue with the parameters I need. Same thing happens.
    I've tried Diskwarrior, Onyx and AppleJack permission/directory fixes. Nothing has been found and nothing was fixed.
    I've also tried different font configurations, in case there was some underlying corruption.
    All ads we send to the Distiller inbox have all of their fonts verified as good by FontDoctor. I've even created a dummy ad with a few coloured boxes and no fonts to see if that will distill. Nothing.
    In every occurrence, Distiller processes the .ps file's epilogue and prologue, passes the .ps file to the outbox and creates no PDF.
    If I drag the postscript files from whatever location I place them into the Distiller window, they process and render perfectly.
    I have configured two machines and both of them do the exact same thing.
    Both machines are brand new Intel dual-core PowerMacs with 2GB RAM. All machines have brand new Tiger installs and run the latest builds of CS3, along with Quark Xpress 7.3. Both machines used to run Leopard, but since all we saw was Distiller 8 ioerrors running CS3 under that OS we downgraded in favour of Tiger, hoping the bugs would go away.
    This is truly awful. We can't use these machines the way we want and I have no idea what to do next... And I'm CERTAINLY not going to start creating custom scripts to make Distiller work the way it should out of the gate...
    Has anyone heard of this problem at all?
    Jon: Do you think I should be calling Adobe technical support about this?

    Am I stuck with the organizational structure of folders and subfolders I had in mail when I upgraded to Tiger?
    If not, how do I organize my mail into folders and subfolders without losing it? (I'm afraid I won't remember to not drop messages into a white one).
    I have read in Apple's documentation and here that Mail 2.x does not use the "On My Mac" folder. But when I go to create a new folder (running 2.1), under "location" it says "On my mac," and it gives me no other option. Is this a glitch in my installation, or does the program tell you it's creating mailboxes in a folder it doesn't actually use? Or?
    I recently upgraded to Tiger. Late to the party, I know. Last night I also decided to tackle my overflowing inbox (2200 messages). I filed, I organized. I moved stuff around.
    Weird stuff ensued.
    Some of the messages wouldn't go into certain folders. Huh.
    Well, I can fix that; it's probably a permissions issue, or maybe the folder got corrupted in the update. I ran disk utility to repair anything; nada.
    I renamed folders. They changed color. That's odd. I went into colors and tried to change them to something else.
    I created a new mail folder elsewhere with the same name as the "broken" one and moved the subfolders from the "broken one" into it.
    I discovered some of the folders I had moved had nothing in them. I started looking. A LOT of folders had nothing in them, and they weren't in /library/mail, either.
    By now you're either banging your heads on your desks or laughing yourself silly at my naivete. (I should point out for your additional amusement that I not only had messages from mail from OS 10.2, I had mailboxes I had imported from Eudora, and one of those was one I'd tried to move to a higher level).
    So. I spent several panicked hours trying to fix things, bolluxing them up worse. I finally ended up here, where read very helpful messages, many by David Gimeno Gost. I would like to point out this is the ONLY place I found relevant and helpful info.
    Thank you; Thank you; Thank you. I am restored (well, at least my mailboxes are.) Lost two hours of organizational work and I'm back to an inbox of 2200 messages, but I HAVE THEM. (Thanks also to the friends who nagged me until I got an external hard drive and started weekly backups.)
    And I'm back to square one with a bulging inbox, only I'm leery about doing anything. If I understand what I'm reading right, unless I like migraines and upset stomaches I:
    1. will always have to remember that white folders are simply "scaffolding" for lack of a better term, and cannot hold anything except other folders. Thus I should never try to file messages in a white folder.
    2. really shouldn't move folders with subfolders in them at all. Especially if they're from a previous incarnation of Mail, or imported.
    3. should never never never accidentally name a folder with the same name, even to "fix" capitalization.
    4. avoid renaming folders at all, especially ones that contain other folders.
    I realize that's fairly draconian, but I'm often in Mail at 11 p.m. when my brain is dead. Rules that require no thought whatsoever are best. So.
    FINALLY, back to my original questions:
    Am I stuck with the organizational scheme I had when I upgraded?
    If not, how do I REorganize my folders without losing anything?

    HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
    Try updating your Flash player plugins as the version number in crash log is out of date.
    http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ Download, install the player and restart your Mac.
    Also, go to: ~Library/Internet Plugins and ~Library/Input Managers. Delete and files in those folders.
    Try resetting Safari.
    Choose Safari > Reset Safari.
    Deselect any items you don’t want to reset:
    Clear history: Clears the stored addresses of webpages you’ve viewed.
    Empty the cache: Clears the temporary location on your computer where Safari saves webpages you’ve viewed. The cache helps webpages load more quickly.
    Clear the Downloads window: Clears the list of files you’ve downloaded from websites. Only the names are removed; the files themselves are still on your disk until you remove them.
    Click Reset. Restart your Mac.
    Repair disk permissions. Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Quicktime TOAST VIDEO CD export, mpg files, audio sync out

    I used the TOAST VIDEO CD option from my FINAL CUT PRO 3.0 version to make mpg videos to upload to my website, so it seems to be the easiest format where a PC platform and MAC platform can both run this file...
    well lately, i can't remember what i've changed, if anything, but the files that I export, become out of (audio) sync when they become mpgs. However, I can do mp4 and its fine, or any other format. But when I do video toast cd (.mpg), and I play the file on the laptop, its audio is out of sync. I am running QT 7.0.1 downgraded from 7.0.4, that i was using earlier... with Final Cut Pro 3.0, and running Mac OSX 10.3.9
    please someone help me with this, its driving me nutso!
    please

    It sounds (no pun intended) like a Toast problem.
    QuickTime doesn't export to MPEG-1 or 2 formats and it isn't involved with the conversion. Maybe you can find an answer in a Toast user forum (if any).
    I've never had any issues using the steps you use but my conversions were from original QT formats (not .avi) and the files were under 5 minutes.

  • Cannot Retrieve Page From Server

    This is driving me nutso
    This is robohelp server 7.
    When trying to publish our test site, we're getting the error that I've attached.
    Basically, it says: cannot retrieve page from server...status:500
    I can browse to the site. Just can't get robo to publish.
    Is it a permission problem...a service not running...something else?
    Thanks
      Doug

    Hi there
    Out of curiosity, why did you choose to attach the image as opposed to using the Camera icon to insert it inline?
    I'm very curious because it seems everyone seems to choose operate that way.

  • When I forward an HTML email with embedded graphics to someone, it forwards it as plain text.. this is driving me batty.. how do I forward such mails INTACT??

    I have the latest Thunderbird installed on a new 64-bit Winblows Eight netbook.. fantastic program, but one problem is driving me absolutely batty, and after using the latest Thunderbird for weeks, I simply can't figure out how to fix it..
    I'm on a lot of mfr. and other kinds of mailing lists, like eBay watch list alerts, and so on.. these are not s p a m (although I get plenty of that.. who doesn't).. but lists I WANT to be on..
    Many such emails from those mailing lists are in HTML format with embedded graphics.. I'm not talking about graphic file attachments, but embedded graphics which are coming from the senders' servers, and appear AS a graphic in the email.. sometimes such emails are one huge graphic with hardly any text.. all well and good..
    However, here's the problem.. when I want to forward such an email to a friend, Thunderbird ALWAYS formats it as plain ASCII text.. I know this because I look in the "sent mail" folder, and can see that it has turned an HTML email with embedded graphics into plain ASCII text..
    I absolutely can't figure out how to get it to forward an HTML email with embedded graphics INTACT, so the sender receives it looking the way it looks when I receive it from a mailing list, or an advertiser, or eBay, or whoever..
    Is Thunderbird capable of forwarding an HTML email with embedded graphics INTACT?.. If so, how / where do I turn on that capability?..
    If the capability to do this isn't built into the program, is there an add-on I can install that will give it that ability?..
    I am not new to computers.. but this really has me stumped.. I want to put Thunderbird on my 32-bit Vista laptop and stop using its horrible "Windoze Mail" program, which I've been using for years, and is slower than snot, and has all kinds of other problems..
    So, assuming whoever reads this FULLY understands my question, PLEASE tell me how to get Thunderbird to have the ability to forward an HTML email with embedded graphics AS-IS, so the receiver(s) I forward it to see it exactly the way I see it when I receive it.. if that ability is built in, please tell me how to turn it on.. if that ability is not built-in, please tell me what add-on I need to install to give Thunderbird this capability.. if Thunderbird absolutely can't forward an HTML email with embedded graphics at all, please also tell me that..
    A virtual box of candy and a dozen long-stemmed roses to anyone who can give me a solution that works..
    Thanks..

    Dear Mr. Toad (my all-time favorite ride at Disneyland ;-) ..
    Thanks so much for your detailed reply.. my netbook is in the bedroom, turned off.. I (so far) only use it in the evening, in the bedroom.. I've saved your response, and will try your suggestions, and let you know if they solve the problem I described. I really appreciate you taking the time to post such a detailed reply..
    I can't answer your Thunderbird "configuration" questions, because I'm in the living room, using the crap Vista laptop, on which I plan to install Thunderbird, and then take Windoze Mail out in the street and drive over it a few times.. I'll get back to you one way or the other, and let you know if your instructions solved the problem, or not..
    I don't understand why Thunderbird "out of the box", so to speak, simply doesn't forward HTML emails with embedded graphics, (like Outlook Excess, and Winblows Mail do).. without having to go through those steps. I personally HATE HTML email, but over the years, it's become more and more prevelant.. so it's a problem I must fix..
    Thanks again..
    Harv..

    I use a yahoo account for my e-mail which worked fine until I changed my password a few weeks ago. I now keep getting a message up telling me to insert my password again. I know I'm putting in the right password but this is driving me to distraction!
    I have now deleted the account and reinstalled it but now I can't get my e-mails through at all. Can anyone make any suggestions?

    Hello,
    Open Keychain Access in Utilities, use Keychain First Aid under the Keychain Menu item, then either check the Password under that item, change it, or delete it and start over.
    You may have multiple entries.
    Open Keychain Access in Utilities, enter the part after the @ sign in the search bar, hit enter

  • Finicky e-mail is driving me crazy. Please help.

    I have an iphone 3G. I live in Japan and got the iphone through a Japanese cellphone service. Each cell phone in Japan has it’s own personal e-mail address, and e-mailing has always been quick and efficient: someone sends you an e-mail it goes to your phone immediately. I would assume that would be the case with the iphone, but it’s not. It’s really finicky and it’s really driving me up the wall. Here’s how receiving e-mail usually works for me:
    1) A message pops up on my screen telling me I have an e-mail.
    2) I go to my inbox, and the iphone begins connecting (I get the connecting message).
    3) It stays that way for a minute or two then the connecting message goes away. I press the reload button to check for new mail, but the phone does nothing.
    4) I move to a different folder, such as drafts or sent, and the iphone begins connecting again.
    5) I then back out and go back to my inbox. After another minute, my new message is finally downloaded.
    Before people start suggesting this: There is nothing wrong with my connection. I have full bars and internet browsing works fast and fine. It has always been like this even after updating or restarting as many people suggest to alleviate e-mail problems.
    Is there any thing I can do about this? Are there any mail applications that work better? Is it too much to ask for my phone to get my e-mail without me having to dance around like this? Thanks.

    If it's an imap account the phone get's notified of the email arriving but it still needs to download it when you choose to read/view it which is where your lag is coming from, see if the imap account supports push, if it does when the email arrives it will be sent to your phone straight away (when the alert sounds) and won't wait for you to open the inbox before retrieving it so no lag. I use MobileMe for this and a couple of other accounts and have never experienced any sort of lag i get the email alert i open mail it goes to the inbox and the mail is sitting there ready to be read. In regard to this if it's still happening even with push could be at the email providers end but this wouldn't be all that likely
