Mail dropping offline to quickly

Is there any way to get Mail to not give up so easily when connecting to the mail server and get email? At one of our locations the bandwidth is a bit small and the network gets busy (I'm working on it but most likely will not be resolved for a while), so when Mail tries to connect it gives up almost immediately and goes offline. Ok, so the network is busy and the external bandwidth is smaller than it should be, but other email clients (including Entourage) are able to connect and get email.
There has to be a way to change the amount of time that Mail is willing to wait for before it times out and drops to an offline state.... This is quite annoying.
Thanks,
Peter

I sympathize with you, but I'm afraid there is nothing you can do about it other than customize the toolbar to include the Go Online/Go Offline button to make your life easier, or switch to another mail client -- I'd love to be wrong, though.

  • Mail dropping offline

    Hey people,
I'm having an issue with mail on Mountain Lion whereby I can't leave the mail app open overnight or all day to automatically receive emails.
As soon as I click on the mail app in the dock (light on below the mail icon to indicate it's still on) there's no new mail, I then click on 'Get Mail' and then the connection doctor opens up asking me to take accounts online, I then click on that and nothing happens.
I have to Quit Mail and then re-open it for it to then tick over and download the new mail.  No alert comes up to take accounts online, it just does what it should.
I have downloaded Mountain Lion and installed it again without un-installing (a post recommended it for a different issue).  My next step is to TM the machine and start from scratch again.  It'll be the 3rd time so not really a fan of that...
My wifes MacBook Pro Retina (same monster as this) runs the same Mountian Lion and never has a problem.  They run through the same host (iinet in Aus) and dont use a server or anything.  Even testing hers at home on the same wireless etc, hers runs without a hitch while this thing continues to annoy...
    Any ideas would be great.

  • Mail drop and file sharing

On one of my computers Mail Drop email is not working. I can send email without Mail Drop, but the other emails just hang in Outbox -> On My Mac. It makes no difference if I use a mac.com address or a non-mac.com email address.
Second may be related is that selecting a file in finder then using the context menu to try to  share a file does not work, there are no services associated with sharing.
Re-installing did not help. Perhaps  a clean install would fix things, but I hesitate to do that so quickly.

Thank you for this information. I was having problems with Wireless Networking after the first reboot following installation of RealPlayer 11 - No Internet, No TimeCapsule Backups.
When I saw this article, I removed Realplayer 11, and voila - no more Wireless problem.
Its a pity because I really like the Download Agent functionality of Realplayer 11, even if it's not nearly as slick as the Windows version!
    Thanks and Regards,
    Jim

  • 8500 Premier All-in-One printer drops offline

Periodically my wireless printer drops offline and I cannot print.  This happens randomly on different PCs on the wireless network.  Usually restarting the print spooler on the PC that cannot print solves the problem but sometimes I need to shut the printer down and restart it.  While that generally clears the problem the printer gives me a warning that it had been shutdown improperly, even though I used the on/off button.  Various PCs on the network are running Windows XP and Windows 7 -- all have this problem.

The printer does not disconnect from the network as far as I can tell as other PCs can still print and the Network report from the printer control panel shows me an IP addressl.  It just goes offilne for for pne user.  In XP we can see the "Printer Offline" status and click "Use online" but that is harder to find in Windows 7.
I have not upgraded firmware or software recently.  I had a problem installitng and the HP Solution Center tells me it cannt run as my device installation is not complete.  I have donwloaded and tried to install OJP8500vA909_Full_14.exe several times with no success.  I also have HP_Smart_Web_Printing_v4.6.exe and hppiw.exe -- not sure if they are still installed.

  • NOARCHIVE mode and datafile DROP OFFLINE

I have a 10gR2 database on linux that I use for testing. The db is in NOARCHIVE mode.
I had created test tablespaces on a NAS (as opposed to the system tables on the local machine). The NAS crashed, losing the drive mapping on the db machine. Of course, I couldn't start the database due to the missing datafiles. I did an 'alter database datafile 'xxxx' drop offline', which put the datafiles in RECOVERY mode in the datafiles view.
Amazingly, I was able to recover the NAS several days later, and the datafiles.
Is there any way to restore them after a drop offline? When I try to online them, I get recovery needed, when I try to recover, none of the redo logs have the right checkpoint. (The checkpoint needed is less than what are in the redo logs)
I don't care about any data that might have been lost. The data was static for months.
    Any suggestions?

If the database is asking for recovery when you online the files, and you don't have those transactions in the redo logs, you can't recover to a consistent point in time to online the files.
    # Note that the following is not supported by Oracle Support. You may want to ask them for a second opionion.
You could try taking a copy of all files to another location, recreate the controlfile, and use parameter "_allow_resetlogs_corruption=TRUE" to allow "open resetlogs" to ignore the inconsistent SCN. If it works, you should be able to export the data in the copy database, drop the objects in PROD, and re-import.

  • Mail drop doesn't work

When I try to use Mail Drop Apple Mail responds
'Attachement can't be send by Mail Drop' - 'try later again'
But it doesn't work. I have an iCloud account of course.
    Any ideas?

Pushed the wrong button, sorry! It didn't solve my problem.
I have tried several file sizes but never bigger than 3Gb. I know that Mail Drop is limitated to 5Gb.

  • Large Pictures in Mail Drop Turn Into Small Thumbnails (Exchange Server)

When using Mail Drop through Mac Mail, large pictures (>20MB total) are converted to thumbnails with no link to the original file.  This happens when I choose to use Mail Drop for the attachments.
The large picture also shows in my sent email as a thumbnail with no link.
If I go to my iDevices, I see that I am given the option to download the original large file(s) and it works.  But not on my Mac using the native Mail App.
If I send a large video it does work properly.
    Thanks!

I'm running Entourage 2008, and after successfully connecting to the exchange mail server, it will occasionally simply drop the connection (reads: not connected). Once this happens, even restarting Entourage doesn't ask me to log-in again until the mysterious issue resolves itself. Sometimes only a few minutes, but it can occasionally last an hour or two!
Did you ever get an answer to this? My wife's office is experiencing the same (or similar) problem that Entourage disconnects from the Exchange server, with no error, no message, and mail just sits in the outbox, waiting to go out. Would love to see if anyone has suggestions.
Someone pointed me to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947699, but I don't think that's it. (That suggests that if you send mail, it will fix it. But mail just sits in the outbox.) I was wondering if this might be the problem: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/329067/en-us
    Don't know. Thoughts?

  • Mail is offline and will not go online.

Recently mail went offline and I can't get it to go online. i have a Mobile me account and 3 POP3 Accounts. First i deleted my accounts and re-entered my info, then i deleted the entire library/mail folder with the same result. I also tried to get my mobile me mail with Mozilla Thunderbird and the connection was simply refused. I can still get all my mail through a web browser and my Iphone so my user/pass information is correct. I'm sure someone has the same problem but I can't seem to find anything in 10,000 threads, any ideas?

    Thanks for the input!
    Well connection doctor says:
    1. mail was able to connect to the internet.
    2. Could not connect to the MobileNe IMAP server. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the account prefs section. Also verify that the server supports SSL.
    3. Same for SMTPout: Could not connect to the MobileNe SMTP server. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the account prefs section. Also verify that the server supports SSL.
I tried connecting with Secure Socket Layer on and off with the same result.
I know my password is correct since it's the same as the one i'm using for this appleID/support thread. I just tried to take all accounts online, quit and restart mail. Still no change. hmmmmmmmmm. When i hit check mail it plays the sound you get when there's no new messages on the server instead of giving me a unable to connect message.

  • Is Mac Mail Drop accessible to me?

    Dear All,
I really like the new Mail Drop feature on Mac Mail, but I do have a question.  Is Mail Drop accessible to me?  If I want to get into the account and clear out some attachments before the thirty days expiration in order to free up space, can I do that?  It may not be a problem, but I don't want attachments piling up and using up space once they have been downloaded on the other end.  Thanks.  I'm working on an iMac with 5k Retina, Yosemite 10.10.2.

    Dear All,
Yes, I realize that, but there is a 5 gig limit, isn't there?  What happens if you have large attachments that fill that quota but have already been downloaded on the other end and don't need to remain in Mail Drop for the full thirty days.  I was just wondering if those attachments could be deleted as they can be in other cloud accounts?  Thanks.

  • How  do I  turn on the Mail Drop feature?

  • Apple Mail client app (version 8.0) using 100%+ of CPU upon using mail drop (13" R-MBP running Yosemite 10.10)

    Hello Support Community,
I am having quite the interesting issue. I have read plenty of reports where users' Apple Mail app is using 100% of CPU. This did not start for me until I went to go use the new mail drop feature in Yosemite. I am running Yosemite (10.10) on my 13" Retina - MacBook Pro (flash storage, 8GB RAM, 2.4 dual-core Intel i5) and my Apple mail is version 8.0. I have tried 3 different mail services (2 gmail accounts and iCloud), all result in the same issue. I have also done a complete erase of the hard disk and a brand new install of Yosemite, the issue persists.
As previously stated my mail app is using 100% upon, and only while, using the mail drop feature. If I force quit the mail app and allow it a minute, the mail app returns to using less than 1% of the CPU and the app and entire system resume normal function. Upon attempting to resend the same message that is placed in my outbox the CPU usage jumps to 50-80%. After a few seconds, the CPU usage will sometimes jump higher than 100%, ranging from 130% - 199%. All of these observations were made using Activity Monitor. Of course you can see my frustration, an app using this much CPU stops every process my Mac is doing (using safari, messages, iTunes etc.) - the whole computer locks up. Even force quitting is a difficult process to attempt.
Does anyone have a fix for this? I am at a loss and have no idea what to do. I am a pretty tech savvy guy and have tried everything that I would've thought would fix this. Is there anyway this could be a hardware issue? I don't think so but... all possibilities need to be taken into consideration, even though that one seems outlandish. Upon creating a new user account with a separate user library (but same system library) I figured the OS was the problem. I can't narrow it down to being a specific mail provider, and it can't be my OS since I have now erased and reinstalled 10.10 twice. Thank you!

I have this same issue.  It has been driving me insane, Mac Mail uses 100% CPU most of the time I use it, after every time I open the machine, or after a sleep or even mostly after a screen saver has locked me out.  It normally settles down after 5-15 minutes, but then happens every time again.  It is killing my battery.

  • Does Mail Drop have a feature to  let you know if someone has downloaded your file.

I have been searching to find out more details about how it works.
Is there any way to receive confirmation or to view a record to see if the recipient who has been sent your large Mail Drop file has downloaded it?
Also is there any way to remove something off of the server once it has been sent?
    Thanks!

No. This is why I don't have an iPhone yet (although mine is finally on order). The closest you are going to get is the ATT Microcell, but they are sort of the opposite technology. The UMA phones allow you to access any wireless network and make calls (as long as you have access to that network). Calls come out of your regular minutes, as they are removing the HotSpot@Home feature, which let you make unlimited calls via wifi.
The Microcell hooks to your wireless network, and works as a cell tower in your home. You can purchase a $20 per month service so that Microcell calls don't count against your allotted minutes, but at that point, you may as well just buy an unlimited minute plan.
The only thing the iPhone had up to this point was some services like Skype or iCall that let you do VoIP, but it wasn't making and receiving calls on your number, PLUS you couldn't be using another app.
I have been with TMO because of the UMA feature, and my wife and I both have BlackBerries. We are switching to iPhones now that Microcell is available. TMO has really seemed to be abandoning UMA for the most part. No Android phones have it.
