Mail Erased Accounts and Now the System is Acting Strange

I just reinstalled Tiger after it crashed last week. A few days ago my wife was prompted to do something when I wasn't around and it wiped out our two Mail accounts. I reinstalled the accounts but ever since odd things are happening.
1) One account still can not send, and the other only sends after I again reset the account.
2) The fonts for Mail, the best I can describe don't look right, I have adjusted them in preferences and got them to look better but still something is wrong.
3) Other fonts have changed. Desktop icon fonts are thick white with a black outline and all fonts in HD have gone into some narrow font.
This is more annoying than anything, I just want to know if this is a symptom of a bigger problem.

Hi clumsymonster, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, test if the Finder/Desktop/Dock works right while in Safe Mode, reboot when complete, test again.
On the Mail thing...
Quit Mail, then In your home folder, try moving this +folder & file+ to the Desktop then reboot...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail
Move to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
You can always move them back if it doesn't help.

Help!! Managed to erase a new second hard drive I added and now the system won't boot up

I can't believe it!! Having un-successfully tried to add a 2nd 2Tb HD, which wouldn't identify itself properly or erase. I took a HD out of one of my PCs and tried again. This time the hard drive was identified correctly and using disk utility I erased it and formatted it successfully. I then shut down, restarted and all I got was an initial white screen and then a black one with a flashing cursor. What have I done wrong...? How can i get the OS to start properly?

Hold down the Alt/Option key while you restart.
This invokes the All-in-ROM Startup Manager, which very slowly inspects each drive and draws an Icon for each potentially-bootable Volume.
If it finds one, select it and click proceed arrow.
If not you will need to boot fron your Installer/Utilities DVD and use Disk Utility from there to look around.

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iDevice, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use. If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, and your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll. When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

The question mark means the computer cannot find a bootable volumes so can;t do anything, That, combined with annoying sounds, strongly suggests a failed hard drive.
You can ask a "genius" at an Apple Rtail Store to test it but I'm pretty sure the drive is kaput. I'm hoping you had your data backed up.

It sounds like you are trying to create a new icloud account, not just logging into an existing account. When you type in your Apple ID and get that error, it's because you are trying to create an account using the same ID that is already being used in another account.
Go to Settings>iCloud and scroll to the bottom of the screen. If you are logged in, press the Delete button, then try logging in with the existing ID.
As for pics, the most secure way is to connect ipod to PC with USB and look at the Photos tab for your device in iTunes. Using Photo Stream is another way, but it doesn't always work, depending on conditions.

I have an ITunes account. I got it when I got my IPOD. I've thought about upgrading, but I didn't see any reason to buy a newer IPOD because they all come with so much stuff I don't want/need. Outlook is a mail client for PC's (and Macs). It is not a type of account. Do you mean an "Exchange Account"?
If so, then re-add it. The calendar events live on the Exchange Server. The only way to get them back is to re-add the account to the phone. The contents of Exchange and IMAP accounts are not part of the 'backup' as they already exist elsewhere.

One computer iTunes can support multiple Apple IDs. One iPod can also support multiple IDs. Don't do an "erase and sync." Simply add your Apple ID to the computer's iTunes and to the iPod. The only nuisance is app updating, especially if you do the updates from the computer, rather than from the iPod.
