Mail: "Erased Deleted Items" shortcut has suddenly been reassigned

In the Mail app in Mavericks, the shortcut Shift-Cmd-Delete has suddenly and inexplicably been reassigned from "In All Accounts..." to "In Selected Mailbox..." in the submenu for "Erase Deleted Items." One minute the shortcut was working the way it always has, and the next minute it stopped. When I looked at the menu, I saw that it had mysteriously moved. By the way, no matter what I have selected in the main Mail window, the "In Selected Mailbox..." option is always greyed out.
My kludgy workaround was to go to the Keyboard control panel and assign a new shortcut, Shift-Cmd-\ to the item I want. (It appears that you can't use the delete key in a self-created shortcut, so I settled for the \ key, which is directly under it.) Okay, so after years of using Mail, I have to learn to use a different shortcut. Not insurmountable, but why did I have to do this? And is there any way to get it back to where "it just works"??

Here's how I did it: A little Googling for re-assigning shortcuts that I found elsewhere and entered the following in the terminal as a single line:
defaults write com.apple.mail NSUserKeyEquivalents -dict-add "In All Accounts..." "@$\U0008"
It "moved" the shortcut over to the command you and I prefer to "own" it.

Disable "Erase Junk Mail" and "Erase Deleted Items" Confirmation

Does anyone know of a way to disable the confirmation dialoge box that appears when you right-click on an account in Mail 5.2 and select "Erase Junk Mail" or "Erase Deleted Items"? I've tried holding down Option and then selecting the item, but that doesn't remove the confirmation dialoge.
I'd like to remove the confirmation dialoge completely as it just adds an extra step to something that is otherwise a quick operation to clear out junk mail.

For what type of account - IMAP or POP?
If a POP account, quit Mail first and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail > this POP account named folder (named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account) > Junk.mbox.
Delete the Junk.mbox and empty the Trash. This will delete the account's Junk mailbox and all junk messages within.
Launch Mail, and a new Junk.mbox will be created automatically within the account named folder when the next message received is automatically or manually marked as junk and moved to the account's Junk mailbox.
Test if this resolve the problem.

I would suggest restarting the iPad and see if the download resumes.

With the new ios7 my every time I receive hotmail it shows all mail as unread when it has already been read

I have the same issue with a non-hotmail POP3 mail account. Must be a bug in iOS7 as it worked without a problem in iOS6.
The funny thing is that if you select "Edit (upper right corner of the screen)/Mark All" there is no "Mark as read" choice here, it reads "Mark as unread". So the built-in Mail app knows that the messages has been read. (Note that I use a non-English iOS language setting, so the actual labels may differ).
And the next funny thing is that only the really unread mails (new ones) are marked with the ussual blue dot.
I have already sent a feedback to Apple about it.

Need to save mails in Deleted Items on E72

It is though Ovi mail has gone beserk, sending me messages I have already deleted. So I need to empty my intray online and on the two E72s I am using.
But before I delete all, I have found some delted messages I want to keep, but can't find a way to move them - only option seems to be to empty the Deleted Items tray.
Any ideas?

I have 750 users on Exchange 2013 sp1. One of my user has a problem. Sometimes his incoming/sent mails go directly deleted items folder. outlook and owa are same ,problem exist both of them. I deleted all rules on outlook/owa but issue continue.
Outlook version is 2010 with sp

In some cases the rules are empty however invisible corrupted\old rules tends to exist for the user mailbox.
Use either of the the below Articles to delete these rules:
NOTE:- You need to have full mailbox rights on the mailbox or need to login as the user. Create use profile just as in Outlook if prompted.

Remove e-mail in deleted items older then 5 days

Hello, we need to clean up the deleted items folders of our users. We are using Exchange 2010
We have decided to clean up all mail older then 5 days in the deleted items folder.
I have created a retention policy tag.
- Tag Type = Deleted Items
- Age limit = 5 days
- Action to take = Delete and allow recovery
I have also created a retention policy and added a test mailbox
- Assigned the retention
I have ran the Start-ManagedFolderAssistent -Identity "testmailbox" cmdlet
It seems to delete all mail in the deleted items after 5 days the policy is applied?
I have deleted an e-mail yesterday on 30th of april. So it should expire on may the 6th?

The retention age for items in the Deleted Items default folder is calculated based on the date of delivery unless the item was moved or deleted from a folder that doesn't have an inherited or implicit retention tag. Here is an article about how to calculate

How can I erase deleted files from the hard drive? Will my machine run faster?

If you've already deleted the files and emptied the Trash they are already, in effect, erased. At least the disk space they occupied is now available.
To be able to offer help we need more information about which Mac you have, which OS you are running, how much RAM you have installed, how much hard disk space you have available, etc.
Go to the Apple Menu>About this Mac - copy and paste the contents of the report here (deleting the serial number of your machine). Once we have that info, I'm sure someone will have some suggestions.

Ok yeah I'm done using Chrome and I am pretty sure I got rid of Clean My Mac 2.
With Intego I brought up the uninstaller program and there was nothing to select to take it off though.

Why can't I send out company e-mail or delete items in my company inbox?

I cannot send or delete email from my company e-mail site. I added my CRM into the pop up blocker but that didn't help.

Firefox doesn't do email, it's strictly a web browser.

Then use a proper backup application.
Periodically using drag & drop isn't very reliable or complete, and backing-up your entire system is much better than just some selected data. When your internal HD fails (they all do, sooner or later) or something else awful happens, reinstalling everything can be a very large, tedious, and error-prone process. Among other things, 3rd-party apps will have to be reinstalled from the original discs or re-downloaded, and purchase keys or serial numbers re-entered.
You already have Time Machine -- it's built-in to OSX, and very easy to use. You might want to review the Time Machine Tutorial, and perhaps browse Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.
And/or, you can use a 3rd-party "cloning" application such as SuperDuper or CarbonCopyCloner. See Time Machine vs. Clones and Archives for an overview of the differences.

The folder list you are looking for is the location you have told iTunes to keep files. If I remember correctly it is under preferences then importing.

Mails were deleted automatically from inbox and sent items, even in deleted items in Exchange 2013 CU2

Dear all:
I encountered a problem and needs to be solved.
We runs Exchange 2013 CU2, and some users told me that their mails in sent items and inbox were automatically delivered into "deleted items", especially in last two weeks or yesterday.
The users said they cannot delete so many mails at one time. And now I found one user's mails in "deleted items" were also deleted this morning.
I don't know whether it was bug or not in exchange 2013 cu2, and how to solve this problem? Thanks for any help.

Using "Deleted Items" folder for long term storage.

I have a user that is using the "Deleted Items" folder in Outlook for long-term storage. He has unchecked the box in the options which would remove the items in the Deleted Items folder at shutdown
and is having problems with his Outlook freezing up several times a day. He was using a Microsoft Surface as his primary computer and has since changed to a Dell Latitude, but Outlook still freezes up. He has an Office 365 Pro Plus license.
I have been looking for articles to explain all the reasons for not using "Deleted Items" for storage, but in order to get him to change, This is not a .pst, it is the Outlook default “Deleted Items”.
. I really need some "ammunition" to let him know the consequences of keep that much mail in Deleted Items.
Could you tell me when Outlook starts, does it enumerate the Deleted Items folder as it does the Inbox?

I have to agree with Robert's point here. The question of whether or not the user should be doing this answers itself: of course he shouldn't. On a lighter note there's a Dilbert cartoon from 2003 which covers this very point:

I'd suggest you ask him to create a sub-folder of his inbox and get him to move everything over, then he still has his history and can use deleted items the way it was intended.
The question I would ask is are you sure that this has any bearing on his Outlook freezing issue? I have encountered people who never empty their recycle bin and I have encountered issues with Outlook freezing, but I don't recall ever having the two together.
If you still have issues after he's moved everything then it's a general Outlook freezing issue, so you have to look at those sort of things. For a start, is it bang up to date with Microsoft Updates? If so how big is his mailbox? Presumably he has an ost
file, so how big and fragmented is that? I'd probably try creating a new Outlook profile. If not then what add-ins does he have, could they all be disabled for a while to see if it's one of them, then add them back one at a time? If not is it worth running
a repair in Office? I've had that fix a fair few issues.
Just a few thoughts. I don't know if any of them will help.

E-mail counter for POP3 account has gone negative

When all e-mails are read the e-mail counter shows "-1/0". Anyone else have this problem? Is there a fix?

Yeah it's just an annoyance really. It now says "-2/0", while my empty deleted items folder has a 2 next to it. Weird. I noticed an e-mail dated Dec 31,1969 just before it went to -2. I always delete everything anyway since all messages are saved at home, so I suppose I could delete the account and set it up again.
