'mail event' creates empty calendar file

I can send ical events by adding invitees, but when I use the control-click 'mail event' method, the ics that gets attached to the mail is empty (when you try to add it to ical it errors with 'This calendar file is empty. No new new events have been added to your ical calendars'. This has worked previously, and works on other macs, no problem.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

I'm having this problem too, and I have all the latest updates installed. Not sure where to go next.
Any ideas?
Thank you.

  • Click a date in an e-mail to create a calendar entry fails.

I click a date in an e-mail to create a calendar entry. Up pops a replica of my calendar for that date.  The replica includes all the existing entries for that date. (So it is clearly accessing my iCloud calendar.)  I say OK to add this new entry.  The calendar replica goes away.  I go to my actual calendar - no entry for the new appointment.  I go back to the e-mail and select the date again and again the replica page appears with the new calender entry shown.  Why doesn't the new entry appear on my real calendar.
MAC Lion ver. 10.7.3 -- iCloud enabled -- calendar works fine in every other aspect

I was afraid it was just me. Maybe it was in the upgrade to firefox 3.6.8 as I think it worked one or two upgrades ago.

  • How to create empty text file on target system for empty source text file

    Hi All,
I have an issue in handling empty file in the Text (FCC) to Text (FCC) file scenario. Interface picks text file and delivers on target system as text file. I have used FCC in both sender and receiver CCs.
Interface is working fine if the source file is not empty. If the source text file is empty (zero Bytes), interface has to delivery an empty text file on target system.  I have setup empty file handling options correctly on both CCs.
But when I tried with an empty file I am getting the error message 'Parsing an empty source. Root element expected!'.
Could you please suggest me what I need to do to create an empty text file on target system from empty source text file?
    Thanks in Advance....

the problem is that when there is an empty file there is no XML for parsing available. Hence in case you are using a mapping it will fail.
What ideally you should do is to have a module that will check if the file is empty and if so write out an XML as you want with no values in the content/fields.
Or the next choice would be to have a java mapping to handle this requirement. I guess that on an empty file the java mapping will go to an exception which you can handle to write out your logic/processing

  • AddressBook created empty backup file

10.4.7 with all the updates. I tried to backup AddressBook as its been a couple months since the last backup. I get the file, but it is a directory with only one file named xxx and has size of zero. Removed the AddressBook preferences, ran Preferential Treatment, Rebuilt Permissions and no change. Everything else in AddressBook works fine. ktrace of AddressBook shows lots of file activity but no real attempts to write to the backup file, just the creation of the directory and the xxx file.
Switching to a test user account, AddressBook generates a backup file with data in it.
    macbook pro

I wish I had a good answer for that. The basic approach I used was to run ktrace to see if I could find the cause. Thats what left the xxx file in the directory. It didn't help. Then I found 2 prefereneces for Address Book. The obvious one and one what another few characters at the end. I removed both and let it rebuild. Only the obvious one got rebuilt. That didn't help. Thats when I noticed that the contents of the backup file only consisted of an empty xxx file. Removing the xxx file from the address book directory then made everything work. Obviously the xxx file was not the original cause. However, it also kept address book from creating a backup. Perhaps there was something in one of the 2 preference files that originally caused the problem. I can't tell at this point.

  • Mail has created a calendar called "Time Profile" that cannot be deleted. Where has it come from and how do I get rid of it?

I am an IT guy in a Windows environment. We have one user who has brought his MacBook pro and added his Office 365 account to the native Mail app in OSx. The calendar now shows an additional calendar called Time Profile. It seems to serve no purpose, it cannot be deleted and the user is getting repeated pop-ups mentioning 'Caldav error 403'. Any ideas how to remedy this? Thanks in advance.

I have just recently noticed this as well.  I have been running one email account on O365 for over a year and until the past couple of days have never noticed it.  I now have my iCal pointed at 3 O365 accounts and there is a "Time Profile" calendar for each of them.
They really do not bother me, however, I would very much like to know what the are for.

  • HT2954 Mail inbox created but no file folders

    Can anybody help me?

    WARNING
Having thought I'd got this sorted I now have a big problem.
By using the IMAP settings on Yahoo website for 'mobile devices' I did manage to sync all mail folder with MBP.  However, following this, on Monday I then noticed that I only had 50 emails in my Inbox out of over 5000.  I checked my Yahoo account via web and the inbox there also only had the last 50 emails.  Over 3 years worth of emails had somehow been deleted!  Disaster. I had only just bought MBP and new backup disk had not then arrived so I had no local backup.
I contacted Yahoo on Tuesday morning and they instigated their recovery procedure.  No joy.  They also insisted that they only support POP for mail clients and not IMAP.  Obviously they do support IMAP for phones and as my iPhone pulls down 50 emails at a time I guess what I have done was to use settings only intended for phones and this has somehow caused the rest of my Inbox to get wiped at Yahoo.  Interestingly I do still have full Sent Items and Drafts folders. Yahoo rep was not very helpful and was unable to confirm exactly what had happened.
I do not hold out any hope now but as, prior to deleting the emails, I did at one point download all of them onto MBP Mail before subsequently deleting them, I thought it might be worth trying to run Data Recovery 3 to see if it finds anything on the MBP.  If anyone has any other ideas please let me know.
So - to anyone reading this thread and looking to fully sync Yahoo Mail - you can't.  It is only a POP account and will sync Inbox only.
Do not apply their IMAP mobile device settings or you will lose your emails.

  • Export creates empty .sql file

When I right-click a table name and click through the export process, the resulting file is named correctly in the correct location but is 0KB. Any thoughts?

Please do not reply. Found suggested procedure in thread and works as described. Thanks anyway.

  • SSIS creates empty flat fie, how to avoid that?

I have a simple SSIS data export package - Data Flow task which takes data from db table and puts it in a flat file.
SQL Agent is used to run this SSIS data export package every 2 minutes.
Sometimes table is empty, does not have new rows that's why
1 - empty file is being created
2 - SQL Agent gave an error:  The step did not generate any output.  The return value was unknown.  The process exit code was -1073741819.  The step failed.,00:00:02,0,0,,,,0
I placed a "Execute SQL Task" step to count rows in the source table and
    disable Data Flow task
if user::count==0  - this still creates an empty file.
Is there a proven workaround to use count variable and actually
disable Data Flow task and avoid creating empty flat file???
Are there any specific rules in setting up "result name" in "SQL Task" "result set" where you map Result Name and Variable Name?
Should it be column name, like "count" for select count(abc) as
    count from TABLE
    Thank you in advance!

Question about Precedence Constraint - should this work?
    In control flow:
    1st task
"Execute SQL Task" step to count rows in the source table
Next - Precedence Constraints - Expression - @[User::count]==0 (what should happen
with 2nd task if expression condition is met?)
2nd task: Data Flow which actually exports data from db and puts it into flat file.
In this scenario empty file is still being created...is there something wrong with my Precedence
    Constraints - Expression - @[User::count]==0?
    Brba,
    Yes, there are 2 methods:
    method1
Have the sql inside a execute sql task and obtain the rowcount into a variable. if the rowcount is greater than 0 then proceed to data flow task which will then execute sql
again and push data into flat file.
So you may set the precedence of the flow from Execute Sql task to Data flow task as an expression as :
    @[User::Count]>0
i.e., only if its greater than zero, will the control even reach the DFT.
    MEthod2
Similar method using @count variable. Have a data flow task followed by a file system task.
Inside the DFT, have the Rowcount transformation between the source and destination that would obtin rowcount into @count variable.
Now similar to above method, set precedence of the path (connnecting DFT and File System task) as expression such that @[User::Count] <=0 . So if rowcount IS zero, will reach FST - wherein you may program as DELETE FILE and select connection as flatfile
    conenction manager itself.
    Thanks,
    Jay

  • How to create downloadable vcs file for a single event (not whole calendar)

Is it possible to create a vcs file in ical that, like the reservation made on opentable, can be downloaded and opened in both ical and outlook? I've tried creating an event listing for website visitors to add to their calendar, but some of the outlook users have trouble with the ics file opening as a meeting, not an event, or opening as a complete calendar. Big problem. Any solution?

How are you making the .ics file? What value has the METHOD: entry?

  • Can't create new calendar events through Thunderbird

    Hi,
I have Lightning installed and hooked up to two Google Calendars, one for actual events (both work and personal) and one for things like local holidays and week numbers (this is a read-only calendar Google's put together).
My issue is that I can't create a new event on my personal calendar through Thunderbird. I can open the "create new event" dialog box no problem, and fill in all the details, but when I hit "Save and Close" nothing happens - the dialog box stays open, and no event is created.
I can create events in a 'local' calendar (e.g. the blank "Home" calendar that Lightning comes with as a default). I can log into my Google calendar through my browser and create events no problem, but then hitting the "synchronise" button in Thunderbird doesn't make them show up (although syncing the calendar app on my android phone, linked to the same Google Calendar, makes the new events created through the browser show up no problem).
The only other information I can offer is that on the Calendar tab in Thunderbird, on the left of the screen, there's list of the calendars my Thunderbird/Lightning has installed/synchronised: "Home" (a local calendar, basically empty but functioning), "Luke John's Calendar" (Google Calendar, the one I'm having the problem with), and "Week Numbers" (Read-only Google Calendar, I don't know if it's possible to create new events on because it's read only). Next to both "Luke John's Calendar" and "Week Numbers" are little (error?) symbols: black exclamation marks in yellow triangles, which give the rollover text "The Calendar [name] is momentarily not available."
Any suggestions for sorting this out? I'd be very grateful!

    Hi Benito,
What does it mean when a subscribed calendar is corrupted?
The files iCal uses to store the calendars (.ics files) are text files. (You can look at one by exporting a calendar from iCal and opening the .ics file with a text editor.) When you subscribe to a calendar you are copying the calendar file to your hard drive. If some information is missing in the file, or the data is ordered in the wrong way, this can lead to iCal not functioning properly.
The error could be on the server or your local copy, from what you write it's hard to tell. You could try subscribing to the problem calendar from another machine to see if it has the same problem.
The usual recommendation for a local calendar (one you created) with this problem is to export and then import the calendar. This means the calendar is re-created from scratch. You can't use this solution with a calendar you are subscribed.
    I hope this helps.

  • Calendar event created on iphone not showing in ical.

I have a 4S and when I create a calendar event in ical, it does not show up in my ical ofn my Macbook Pro.
I have check sync calendars in iTunes and have selected to display all calendars in my Macbook's iCal.
Is ther some thing I am overlooking, or a step I may be forgetting?
    Thanks

After a trip to the genius bar, I found how to solve this problem, at least for me:
    0) Plug in iPhone
    1) Start iCal
    2) Export all calendars (File -> Export)
    3) Quit iCal
    4) Delete all calendars from ~/Library/Calendars
    5) Start iCal
    6) Import all exported calendars
    7) Start iTunes, configure syncing to overwrite calendars on phone
    8) Sync iPhone

  • Time zone compatability problem with timed event created on iOS and pushed to Windows7 Outlook calendar for sharing

Hi, I am in Jerusalem time zone. My Windows7 LAPTOP time zone is set to it (UTC+02:00 Jerusalem). My iPhone5 and iPad are both "Set Automatically" (ON)  to Jerusalem. When I create any new event in my outlook on my Laptop it's generated with the Jerusalem time zone and pushed properly via iCloud to my iPhone and iPad. However when I create a new timed event on either my iPhone or iPad. or even in iCloud calendar (in a browser) the event is pushed to outlook on my Laptop in a "Beirut" time zone. Now that both Jerusalem and Beirut are on the same time zone (UTC + 02:00) it doesn't create any problem (though I prefer to see that the pushed events are indeed in Jerusalem time zone and not Beirut...). However, at and around day time saving change days there are problems of events created on iOS devices or even in iCloud (using browser) and pushed to outlook at the wrong times (1 hour earlier or later, depends on the change direction in Jerusalem time...) with a Beirut time stamp.
How can I resolve this problem and make sure all timed events, created on iOS devices at a Jerusalem time zone, appear as such after pushed via iCloud to my windows7 Outlook calendatr?  Thanks!

I also have this issue (iPhone 5).  Outlook needs to be configured properly in that timezone option needs to be selected.  Which is challenging enough.
However the bigger issue for me is that when I open the ICN file:
    1.  I have no way to accept decline etc.
    2.  When the event is populating the calendar in the wrong time I can neither cut and paste nor select and move.  It is totally static.
So for every meeting request I have to ensure it populates the right time as per my time zone. and if it doesnt i have to manually enter a second meeting 'X' hours earlier/later depending on which time zone the meeting was generated in.
I spoke to Apple.  Their solution is make sure Outlook is properly configured.  Fine...but good luck.  I need a work around that is Apple based.  Because this *****.
They said they would send to the development team.  I am not holding my breath.

  • Calendar events created on the BlackBerry before first sync are not synced with iCal

    Hi all,
I’m helping my uncle regarding problems and requests he has about his BlackBerry Bold 9000. One request he had is to be able to synchronize the calendar with iCal (he has a Mac). I thought this was a simple task, but it eventually appeared to be a nightmare. I spent several hours before finally giving up.
    This is the situation:
His BlackBerry’s calendar is full of events (past and future). iCal is empty. We would simply like to see all his BlackBerry’s events in iCal. We’re using BlackBerry Desktop Manager (last version as of 2010-02-25).
The first synchronization didn't changed anything. Events created after that, either in iCal or on the BlackBerry, appeared correctly on the other side after re-syncing.
Searching in the Knowledge Base and on this forum, I found KB13330 and KB19621. Do you think it is linked to this last issue?
I made a backup of the BlackBerry before doing any testing, and started over everything several times. I even cleaned all iCal and SyncServices data (and also tested with a new empty account on his Mac), but it didn’t change anything.

I have not signed up for or used i-cloud and do not believe I've entered anything via i-could (at least not on purpose :-) ).  I either enter an event in the calendar (i-calendar version 6.8--came on the laptop) OR into the calendar program on the i-phone 5 and then sync--I expect the event to then show up in the proper location on both devices--this is the way it has worked flawlessly with the MacBook Pro and i-phone 4 for a long time.
The operating system of the laptop is: 10.8.4 and the iphone 5 is: 6.1.4.  I believe both are current; I frequently search for updates and install them regularly.
Thanks for your time to assist me.  Our tech "guy" is also stumped by this--a long time Apple product user and very knowledgeable "techie."

  • Calendar "Mail Event" has embarrassing consequences..

I'd be very interested to hear if anyone else has this problem or can repeat it. It's a pretty familiar business use case:
    1. I receive a meeting invite from Colleague A (Windows Outlook) that has myself and several other recipients on it. I accept it.
    2. I find out another Colleague B (Mac Calendar user) never received the invite, and they ask me to forward it.
    3. I open Calendar, find the event, right click and select "Mail Event" and enter Colleague B's email address.
    4. Colleague B opens the message, and the attachment, and then closes them. He does nothing else.
    5. A new invite is automatically created and sent to *everyone* on the distribution FROM Colleague B, making Colleague B look like he's sent a duplicate invite (and is therefore hijacking the meeting!)
    6. Recipients click Accept and now Colleague B receives the accept notifications instead of Colleague A.
This is not inline with the expected behavior which is Colleague B receives an invite request and can Accept that which responds to the meeting owner (Colleague A).
    Thoughts?
Is there a workaround / better way to forward a meeting invite?
    Mark

I'm having this problem too, and I have all the latest updates installed. Not sure where to go next.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you.
