Mail + Exchange IMAP Server won't send mail

Any help would be appreciated!-
My university just switched over to Exchange 2007 for our mail servers, and since the change occurred, I can receive my mail just fine with the IMAP settings they provided. The problem occurs when I attempt to send mail; the server rejects my password (which I know is correct) and will not send any mail. I've also put below the link that the university has provided for students to set up their mail accounts within. I called IT, and they said that Mail wouldn't work until Apple updated their program, which didn't seem right to me because I'm sure that I would see more people complaining than just me. I am on campus, which would also eliminate the need for using the available VPN client.
Can any of you see maybe what settings they may have missed mentioning to us loyal mac fans on campus?
Their guide for connecting mail is located at:

Thank You for any help you may provide!

Jimmy,
Many email providers do not allow emails to be sent on their outgoing servers when the user is outside of their network as an anti-spam protection. This may explain why you were able to send mail from your school account when you were on your school's Wi-Fi connection, but not on your home connection or EDGE. You may want to check with your school's email provider to verify this is the case.
In the meantime, this article has some good troubleshooting steps and alternatives that you can use so that you will be able to send mail when you are away from your school's Wi-Fi network:

Hope this helps,
Jennifer B.

If you want your mail delivered properly the Official Host Name of the sending server should match the PTR (reverse DNS) of the sending IP Address, and there should be an "A" record that matches the OHN as well.
    Example:
mail.yourdomain.com (Official Host Name) on 123.123.123.123
PTR for 123.123.123.123 should match mail.yourdomain.com
There should be an A record in yourdomain.com pointing to 123.123.123.123

  • Gmail on iPhone (IMAP Account) Won't Send Emails

So my IMAP account on my iPhone 3G is Gmail. Yesterday I could send emails all over the place and it worked fine. I turned on my iPhone 3G today and for some reason it kept saying "The Sending Address is Invalid" message every time I tried to send an email. My IMAP is also linked to my MacBook's Mail utility and I can send messages there no problem. It's just on my iPhone 3G that seems to be the problem. I even tried deleting the account and re-setting it up on my iPhone 3G...I've even tried contacting Google for help with Gmail setup but so far, nothing has worked.
Is anybody else having issues with their IMAP email accounts on their iPhone 3G's? Does anybody know how to fix this?

Hey, so I checked the Google Discussion Forums and yes, it is a Google problem. I turned off my primary SMTP server which is Gmail, and I turned on my ROGERS SMTP server. This way I can still receive Gmail messages on the IMAP server and send out emails on the ROGERS server. I guess we'll just have to wait till Google fixes whatever problem there is with the Gmail SMTP server before we use them again. Hope that helps everyone with this problem.
p.s. This should work for FIDO customers as well (other Canadians) and AT&T in the U.S.

  • ICal Server won't send invites to e-mail addresses

Set up a new 10.7.2 Server, enabled OD, added 6 users. Set up iCal Server, everything works fine between OD users. Problem is when you try to share a calendar with an e-mail address for someone outside the company, iCal comes back with "The server returned an error" and "Mail gateway didn't find a token in message" shows up in the iCal Server log.
We created a new dedicated e-mail account on their mail server (hosted by their ISP, not by the server I just installed) and put all the info into the iCal settings in the Server app. As far as I can tell that part is working. I also tried creating a Gmail account, but I get the same errors.
Google hasn't been much help. Only reference to the token error was from someone else's calendar server application, and wanted me to edit caldavd.plist (I checked the settings there just in case, and it all is correct.)
The server is hostings DNS for itself, but all other DNS info is being provided by their Airport Extreme.
    -Z

Today I reloaded the server in question. Downloaded 10.7.3 via the Recovery Partition, restored the OD archive, and tried to set up iCal. I have exactly the same problem.
I set up a calendar on a Lion client, and try to set it to share with someone who has an OD account. The sharing dialog closes, but no invite is ever sent. If I try to share with someone who is not in OD, I get error messages in the server log.
An entire afternoon of Googling shows a lot of people are having the same problem. Best I can tell, it seems to happen if your e-mail server is hosted elsewhere, as if iCal Server assumes that the mail server is on the same Mac. This is not the case with this setup. Their web page and domain are hosted outside as well, but we have a DNS entry made so server.domain.com forwards to the Mac Mini server inside their office. We've tested this for VPN, Remote Desktop, and FileMaker access, and all work fine.
I've tried two types of configurations, neither of which is working.
    1. Created an [email protected] account with their mail host. I used that outside mail server information for IMAP / SMTP settings, but every time I try to share a calendar the iCal error log shows IMAP login errors. Their mail server does not use SMTP authentication. They have the option to use SSL or not, but neither work.
    2. Used [email protected], and used the default localhost server info. I then tried to set up the server's built in Mail server to forward mail to their outside mail host. This started giving me
[mailgateway] 2012-04-05 19:51:05-0400 [IMAP4DownloadProtocol,client] Unhandled unsolicited response: ['OK', ['HIGHESTMODSEQ', '1'], 'Highest']
I now get that error no matter what I do, meaning something broke again.
I've gone through several Google pages referring to greylisting, the postfix, etc, but since the server is not running a Mail server, none of these apply.
I have no idea what I am doing wrong. Lion has been out a year, surely in that time this has been worked out. So why can't I find a solution? Everywhere I look it's either a thread starting out with the same problem I am having, followed by a dozen or so "me too" posts, or it's someone saying they managed to make it work, but their fix doesn't work for me. I'm really frustrated right now, and so is my customer.
Oh, almost forgot... now we have a new problem. FileMaker Admin requires access to port 16000, but for whatever reason the server is blocking that port. It's not running a firewall. Good to know that reloading causes more problems than it solves.

  • Server won't send mail in the queue

    Hi,
I have a mail server running on Mac OS X Server 10.4 running at my home on an ADSL connection. I am able to receive mail just fine, but when I try to send mail, it will not leave the outgoing mail queue on the server with the error boiling down to not being able to connect to the recipient's mail server. I am I am using DynDNS to point my domain to my IP address. Is something funky about my DNS? Maybe reverse DNS or anything like that? I've tried a lot of different settings, and I can't seem to get this to work. Thanks!

Ok, so I added the instructions for an authenticated postfix relay to an email server I know that works. The procedure I followed is here: http://postfix.state-of-mind.de/patrick.koetter/smtpauth/smtpauthmailservers.html
However, I'm still getting the same error...maybe I didn't configure something properly. I found nothing related to SASL in the main.cf file, so I added the settings somewhere in the middle. Here's the error log:

  • Smtp server won't send mail from the office, works fine at home...

Ugggg... AOL!!! I can't send my emails from my Mac Mail program using my aol account from the office. This works fine from other connections. I am wireless at work and at home and elsewhere all the time and don't have a problem. I CAN'T send out using smtp.aol.com from the office, using my aol account and passord in the preferences etc. I've worked out of this office in the past and didn't have a problem but haven't been able to send out all week...
OS 10.3.7 Not Tiger, the one before (Panther?)
    Help

    Welcome to the Discussions.
Many ISP are blocking the use of any third party SMTP, sometimes even when presented on Port 587 (I presume you are using Port 587?) -- could it be that the ISP connecting the office, has changed policy?

  • Exchange 2007 server will not send intra-organisation messages with attachments

Hi we have a problem with the Intra-Organisation connector between out Dubai and London office.
If they send us a plain message it is delivered OK, however if there is any attachment most of the time the message sits in the queue and continually retries. On some occasions messages do get delivered.
The errors vary between Connection Timed Out, Connection Dropped and 10061, No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.
As Dubai have a dynamic IP address they route all of their external mail via London and that is all going through OK. All of the other sites can send and receive OK with attachments both internally and externally.
To me this looks like I have a problem with the Intra-Organisation SMTP Send Connector on the Dubai server but I cannot spot anything that might be causing this issue.
They have worked previously however another issue did involve removing the Dubai server from the domain and adding it back in. Since then we have had this problem.
I have checked message size limits on the Send connector (100Mb) and the Transport settings (100Mb). I have checked the message size limits on the Intra-Organisation SMTP Send Connector (unlimited) and even on the user's mailbox (unlimited).
Any idea where I should be looking next?
    Many thanks, Eddie

    Hi Ed,
I think you may have hit on the problem - this is all one org so having read up more on this it should not be using this.
I spotted that the server was using this connector when I was looking the message tracking for the server and started looking into what it does and how to control it.
I used the Set-TransportServer command to set protocol logging on this to verbose, it get entries in the SMTP send logs like this:

    Queued mail for delivery,
So it does appear for some reason that the local mail server thinks it needs to use the wrong connector even though both servers that are in the same domain. It is odd that it only seems to affect messages with attachments.
Can you give me any suggestions to try and find the root cause of this problem?
    Many thanks, Eddie

  • Server won't send email relaying

Mail will not send keep getting msg. :msg saved server does not allow relaying: Help

Try going into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > select the account > account name , tap on SMTP (under the 'Outgoing Mail Server' heading) and then tap on your Primary Server and try entering your email account and password and see if it then works

  • Huge Macmail on ML issues with Exchange Imap

I can't seem to get Macmail on a new Macbook Pro with ML to work with our Exchange Imap server.  The weird thing is that we have another new Macbook (with ML) that I created using an older Mac's Time Machine and had no issues with Macmail. The mail settings are identical!

Sounds like you could try deleting the current keychain entry, then quit Mail.app. Open Mail.app again, when it asks for the password go ahead and type it in then just click Always Trust, etc. to see if it can hold onto that certificate this second time around. You also might have more than one entry in the Keychain list, so hunt around there a little to make sure you get everything deleted related to your Zimbra/Exchange IMAP accont.

  • Mavericks Mail won't send login information to IMAP server

I am having a problem with Mavericks Mail not connecting to the Dovecot IMAP server.  There appears to be many posts about similar problems, but none have the exact symptom I’m seeing.
Mail appears to not provide login information to any of my IMAP accounts.  The iPad, iPhone, and Thunderbird on the same Mac all work with the same credentials.  Just Apple Mail on the Mac fails.  It fails for all user accounts on the same Mac.  This has been a problem for a long time.
Connection doctor seems to indicate Mail is not sending login information.  In fact, connection doctor shows the only thing working is the smtp server that doesn’t require a login.  Everything else fails.
I’ve rebooted the Mac and the mail server.
    I’ve repaired disk permissions.
    I’ve recreated the account.
I’ve create a brand new account.
    I’ve removed cache files.
    I’ve re-indexed mail files.
    Nothing works.
Here is the relevant connection doctor log:

I believe the “WROTE” log line in Mail cooresponds to the “client in” line in Dovecot.  The next line is a continuation going back to Mail.  But, Mail never seems to read or process it.  When Dovecot gets a successful login from Thunderbird, the login credentials were displayed in the log with another “client in” line.
Here is what I am using:
    OS X 10.9.4
    Mail version Version 7.3 (1878.6)
    Dovecot version 1.1.7
Where do I go from here?  Has anyone seen this symptom before?  How do I get Mail to send credentials to an IMAP server?
Thanks from a first time poster !

Try MD5 as the authentication method.

  • Unable to SEND mail using Activesync in Exchange 2010 server on iPhone or Windows Mobile 6.1

    Hi All,
We've been setting up a new SBS 2011 server for a client this week. Everything is working, except the staff have 4 x iPhones to connect with Exchange ActiveSync.
There are 2 x iPhone 4's and 2 x iPhone 3Gs's. We can setup the Exchange accounts on each of the phones and they are all able to sync mail and calender etc with the server.
The problem we have is when any of them try to send mail from the phone, it gives an error : "Cannot Send Mail - An error occurred while delivering this message" and it sits in the outbox on the phone.
The newsgroups and forums are littered with people having issues with IOS4 and Exchange 2010 but most of these are from June-August 2010 when IOS4 version was around 4.00 or 4.01
A lot of these people had iPhone 3 handsets running with IOS 3.1.3 which worked with Exchange 2010 but when they upgraded to IOS 4, they had this problem sending mail.
It seems that for most of them, the fix came in the form of IOS version 4.1 which fixed the send issue for them.
We have a variety of Hansets and IOS versions (including an iPhone 3Gs running IOS 3.1.3) but are unable to send mail from any of them:
    iPhone 3Gs    IOS 3.1.3
    iPhone 3Gs    IOS 4.3.3
    iPhone 4       IOS 4.3.3
    iPhone 4       IOS 4.3.5
I was surprised that the iPhone 3Gs running 3.1.3 was unable to send either as nearly all the forums etc I read with this issue said the iPhone 3's worked with that IOS version.
Today we used a test iPhone 4 handset from our office to connect to an almost identical Small Business Server 2011 we setup two weeks ago for another client.
The test iPhone 4 was able to connect, Sync and Send email on that server but when set it to connect to this SBS 2011 server, it gets the "Cannot Send Mail" message the same as the others. So clearly the handset is working (on the other server at least),
it must be something misconfigured in this Exchange server right?
We ran the Exchange Remote Connectivity Analyser on the Exchange server and got green ticks across the board.
Outlook Web App and Outlook Anywhere both work normally. Everything we can test on the Exchange server works except sending from any iPhone.
Having said all that, I just setup a Windows Mobile 6.1 handset to sync with the Exchange 2010 server as a test, and it appears to have the same issue.
It will connect & Sync Mail, Contacts and Calendar but if trying to send an email from the phone, it will just sit in the outbox.
Does anyone have some insight into what the problem may be?

Further to this .. I found the solution on a MS Exchange 2010 support forum.
It was not a certificate or firewall issue, looks as thought the “Accepted Domains” in Exchange Mgmt Console –
Org Config – Hub Transport cannot have any spaces in the name field.
I had some spaces and the emails were not downloading fully and able to send. Once I removed the spaces from the Name field and
restarting the Exchange and IIS services emails were now being sent and received ok.

If the setting is greyed out perhaps you have restrictions enabled that would prevent someone from changing accounts. Settings>General>Restrictions>Allow Changes>Accounts.

  • I just purchased an ipad and I can receive e-mail but I can't send or reply.  I get a message that the e-mail is in the outbox because the server won't allow 'relaying.'  What do I need to do?

I just purchased an ipad2 and I can receive e-mails but I can't reply to or forward them.  I also can't send a new e-mail.  I receive a message that the e-mail has been placed in the outbox because the server won't allow 'relaying.'  On my laptop, using the same e-mail server, I am fine.  What can I do to make the ipad2 e-mail function properly?

Contact whoever manages your email server and ask them what ports and security to use for SMTP from remote locations. ISPs and email admins often require different SMTP settings when sending email when not connected to the server's or ISP's network.

  • Ipad mail.app won't display unread msgs in subfolders on IMAP server

Mail.app on my MBP (Snow Lion) reads all the unread messages (using a smart mailbox) in the sub-folders on the IMAP server I use (shared hosting).
Mail.app on my iPad 3 (and Sparrow too for that matter) will not display All Unread Messages (my caps, as an example). If I tunnel down into a sub-folder it displays them correctly with the Unread flag but there appears to be no equivalent of the Smart Mailbox Unread Mail in mail.app SL on the iPad.
Have I missed something or does this capacity not exist in iPad's Mail.app?

I agree with LowLister, the best option for you to share the video online is to upload it to your online storage account for example : Box, Dropbox, SkyDrive (All of them provide free storage beginning from 2GB).
You can upload the files which you want to share in this online storage and then they have sharing options in which you'll will get the link of the file to be sent and send the email. You're good to go!
Tip : You can store multiple files for backup purposes.
