Mail extremely slow for an imap account after 10.5.2 combo

Mail became very slow for a non-.mac/non-gmail imap account after I installed 10.5.2 combo. The account works fine from other mail client such as Sea Monkey. It was working fine until 10.5.1. Any hint?

Using INBOX as the path prefix is NOT the "correct way"; the correct way is server dependent. This is further complicated by the fact that servers that fully support the IMAP Namespace extension actually have more than one "path prefix".
On my company's server, we have the concept of shared mailboxes and the company relies extensively on them. If a user sets the path prefix to INBOX, he can no longer see the shared mailboxes, since that prefix limits him only to his personal mailbox hierarchy. So he must leave the prefix as blank in order to see the shared mailboxes.
Unfortunately, 10.5.2 has decided that a) it shouldn't honor the setting of "Keep Notes & ToDo's" to "On My Mac" and b) that it knows better than the user what the path prefix should be, and c) it doesn't have a "don't ever ask me again" on that annoying dialog.
I have already filed a bug report on this issue.

  • Changing Mail Server Settings for Other IMAP

    Hello,
I'm an Admin for a treatment center and one of our psychiatrists has a BB Tour. He asked me the other day if I could set up his email account on our exchange server for him on his phone. Going through the mail setup wizard I selected "Other" account and set it up for IMAP and then it asked me for his email address and password. It took the domain name and then assumed the mail server names were as such. Now in a perfect world, this wouldnt be an issue. I recently took over for a complete moron and this guy has our MX records pointing to a 3rd party company where all of our outside emails go and then the Outlook clients are set up to pop this box in addition to the Exchange setup (I know its totally lame). What Ive done for everyone else is just setup a IMAP account using the server IP address and mail works fine for them. I cannot for the life of me find where I can actually edit the mail server names for the IMAP account I create on his BB Tour. Is this a limitation the phone? Or am I not looking in the right place. Thanks!

Yup -- refer back to my first reply where I said to use the carrier BIS website...while I didn't say it quite so clearly, I did not say to use the on-device email setup wizards.
The device interface to BIS (aka email setup wizards) and the carrier website interface to BIS have subtle differences. For what you need to do, you need to use the carrier website from a PC/browser. Here is the link:
    https://bis.na.blackberry.com/html?brand=vzw
If you have not yet created BIS credentials, you will need to. I find it easier to first create those on the device interface and then use them in the web interface. Afterwards, you will have to use the credentials in the device interface, but there is a "remember me" box so you will only have to enter them once.
Personally, I rarely use the device interface...a full keyboard, mouse, and monitor are so much simpler for doing things than a tiny BB screen/keyboard. But that's just me.
    Good luck!

  • Can't send mail in IMAP accounts after installing Mavericks. Incoming messages OK.

I'm unable to send mail in IMAP accounts after installing Mavericks.  Incoming is OK. Any suggestions on how to resolve, please?

I'm afraid that I have the very same problem. How did Apple not see this. Surly email is a major part of any opperating system and should have being more than double checked before releasing. I understand software glitches but this is a major pain in the backside. I'm totally stuck and can't use my macbook pro

  • Mail crashes when connecting to IMAP accounts

    Hi all,
I have mail set up to check 5 different accounts. One is a POP account and 4 are IMAP accounts (2 gmail, 2 other mail providers).
Initially I had no problems at all with this setup. Mail had mirrored all 4 IMAP accounts and was downloading new messages without a problem. One day, however, something went awry and every time I took one of my Gmail accounts online, Mail would crash. I figured I'd leave that account offline and keep checking that gmail account the regular way.
This worked for a while. More recently though Mail has started crashing when any of my IMAP accounts are taken online. If I leave the 4 IMAP accounts offline and only the POP account online, it does not crash.
Here is what I've tried so far:
    Repair permissions/disk.
Erase and Install Tiger (up to 10.4.11)
Moving .mbox files to the desktop and letting mail download the inboxes again (not ideal, the largest inbox is 800MB and a gmail one)
Removing the accounts and starting from scratch.
Nothing seemed to change a thing, Mail now crashes on startup if the IMAP accounts are online (if I take that Mailbox offline, Mail works fine).
I checked the crash reports (which I have been reporting to Apple like crazy, not that they seem to have noticed), and it always seems to be Thread 0 that crashes. Here are the last two crashed Thread 0s:

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Have no idea whether this will help or if it's even what resolved my same recent imap problems that involved primarily *GMAIL imaps*, but it seems to be helping.
First, make sure all imap accounts are dragged up to the very top of the inbox/accounts list: *imaps above pops*
(Any IMAP accounts that have multiple folders should be at the top of the imaps).
Second, go into Mail > preference > accounts > [ each imap account ] > Advanced Tab
Above the box for the Port is *_IMAP Path Prefix_:* Type in INBOX
(reminder: If it's gmail, make sure your port is 993 and Use SSL is checked.)
Hope this helps. so far this is what seems to have helped w/mine (i have other problems such as zero results in my smart mailboxes--they no longer work).
I also have a different imap account not google/gmail and I don't use INBOX in the path prefix on that one and it has always worked just fine; the problems started with gmail imaps.
i'll be interested to know if it helps anyone else.
(Note: I manually synchronize the gmail IMAP accounts because having the auto synch box checked also seems to cause problems but your experience may vary)
    cheers!
now if anyone can tell me why after all these years apple has not fixed the lookupd / dns / network bugs that result in this (among other similar failures)

  • Emerlad-theme-manager Is Extremely Slow For One User

Hello. I'm having a problem with Emerald's theme manager. I have three users on my system. root, guest, and snowyclaw. The theme manager works perfectly fine with root and guest, but it's extremely slow for snowyclaw. Loading the window at first, reloading the window after theme selection, anything else that causes an update are all problems I'm having. Help is very appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Update: Forgot to mention this, but I uninstalled it with pacman -Rns and rebooted. After that, I reinstalled it and it's themes. It hasn't fixed the problem, which suspects that maybe there's an old file causing problems somewhere.

  • Mail doesn't save password for iCloud IMAP account (works fine with other email providers)

Mavericks Mail doesn't save the password for my iCloud IMAP account no matter how many times I enter it into Preferences or enter it when prompted.  Doesn't seem to be saving in Keychain or wherever it should be saved.  Passwords for all other email providers that I use are saved.  Any suggestions on how to fix this?  Thanks!!!!!

Great, thanks A LOT! Best answer on that issue and so simple!!!! Now it works perfectly fine

  • A hint if you use multiple mail clients to check one IMAP account

    FYI:
Mail.app in leopard turns on an advanced "push" mail feature automatically, called IDLE. This can cause strange problems when you use multiple IMAP clients to access you IMAP server.
For instance, I have a computer in my office and one in my lab. Normally Mail.app is running on them both constantly. After installing Leopard I would sit in my office delete and move messages from my INBOX, and when I went down to the lab I would find those emails still in my INBOX and also in the mailboxes I had moved them to on my office machine. In very short order I ended up with multiple copies of emails in many places and no ability to actually delete mail.
Originally I thought this was a bug with Leopard Mail.app, or a problem with compatibility between Mail.app and the UW IMAP server that I use. I wasted significant time searching on the web for possible solutions.
It turns out that the IDLE feature (that is automatically turned on for you in Leopard) was the cause of my problems. Turning this feature off (in the Advanced pane of the accounts setting) on EACH machine caused me email to return to its previous functional state.
If you only use one IMAP mail client the IDLE feature is nice, it pushes new mail to you as soon as the IMAP server receives the new mail.
(note -- IDLE is also automatically turned on in Thunderbird)

Assuming you're on a NAT'd network, DNS services can cause all sorts of weird errors with the mail server, including spontaneous name changes.
To verify local DNS services, launch Terminal.app from Applications > Utilities and issue the following harmless diagnostic message:
    sudo changeip -checkhostname
You'll need to enter an administrative password for the sudo, might see a one-time informational message around the usage of sudo, then you'll see some host and network configuration information, and finally an indication that either no changes are required, or that there are local DNS or the network has configuration issues.  Also, make sure you're not using .local or .arpa as the top-level domain within the DNS services.
Public DNS for the mail server can also cause communications issues, if that's not configured correctly — that won't cause the issue you're seeing in the logs here, but it will cause inbound mail to not reach your server, and outbound mail from your server to be dropped by the remote server.  To verify your public DNS, launch Terminal.app from Applications > Utilities and issue the commands discussed in this thread or this thread and confirm that your internal and external MX record and your internal and external forward and reverse DNS settings are all correct.

  • Yahoo Mail extremely slow on Firefox 12

Yahoo Mail works fine in IE9 but is extremely slow on Firefox 12 after applying Java update 7.11 patch. Please advise on how to fix the issue.

Yo soci888! Why are you on Firefox 12? All the cool people are on Firefox 18 now. Time to upgrade and join the crew. Check out this upgrade link: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-firefox-latest-version
Here is another suggested solution from another solver:
"I had the same problem. Opening Firefox in Safe mode cured it, so I knew it had to be a setting or plugin of some sort....I did all the recommended fixes and nothing changed the typing being real slow and behind when running in normal mode.
What fixed it for me is turning off the hardware acceleration option in Firefox. Here's how: Click on Firefox->Options->Advanced->General tab. Then uncheck the checkbox "Use hardware acceleration when available". Click OK. Hope it works for you. Good luck!"

  • Problem with marking mail as Not Junk in IMAP account

    Hi,
I have an IMAP email account on Go Daddy that I forward all my other mail accounts for processing. I use Apple Mail to process this IMAP account and use Mail.app's Junk filter to move Junk mail to the Junk mailbox. This Junk mailbox is mapped in Mail.app to my Go Daddy Bulk Mail IMAP folder, and the Trash and Inbox are also mapped to their respective folders of this IMAP account's Mail.app is set to "Enable junk mail filtering" and "Move it to the junk mailbox".
When junk mail comes in, Mail.app correctly identifies the mail as junk and moves it to the Junk folder. However, if I find a message that Mail.app misidentified as junk and I attempt to mark it as Not Junk, the message gets a Not Junk status (not brown anymore), but the message stays in the Junk folder; Mail.app does not move it back into the Inbox.
I would assume that since both the Inbox and Junk mail (Bulk Mail) folders are IMAP and on the same account, that upon marking the message as Not Junk, this mail should be moved back into the Inbox, just like under POP.
Am I mistaken about the operation of Junk mail under IMAP? Should marking a message as Not Junk move it automatically to the Inbox? Do I have my folders and options set right? Should I possibly use a 3rd party Spam filter such as SpamSieve (where I can control its actions via Applescript)?
    Thanks for any info.
    Mike

Ah Ernie, I think you found out my "problem".
Before I upgraded to SN, I used SpamSieve to manage my POP SPAM. When I changed to SN, I did away with SpamSieve and POP, and used IMAP and Mail.app's Junk filtering. SpamSieve, since its "Mark As Junk" and "Mark As Not Junk" functionality uses Applescript, it must've moved the Not Junk message back to the inbox.
Thanks for the pointer; I may change back to SpamSieve to get back that functionality.
    Mike

  • MacBook Pro Extremely slow for unknown reason.

Even typing this message is taking an age.
I woke up this morning, picked up my laptop and it's just being a right toad!
It's extremely slow and sluggish and won't even open some apps (Skype seems to be causing MAJOR problems and made the computer freeze big time - which I've never seen before) And mail just throws a hissy fit when checking for mail.
I uninstalled skype and it seems to have made a LITTLE bit of difference.
Even doing a spellcheck takes about a minute, it's silly.
I've done SMC and PRAM reset but it's had no effect at all. I've also repaired disk permissions.
I'm all out of options now. I've reset the computer about 10 times, deleted some temp files, emptied the trash, cleared the HDD - Everything.
The one thing I'm worried about is that it STINKS of a virus.....
I'm tired of seeing the beach ball of death and the power button is nearly worn out.
    Any help is mucho appreciated

First your machine is NOT affected by a virus because none as in zero, nada, zip, nope exist for OS X. What it sounds like to me though is 1 of 2 possibilities, both related to your HD. First is it's too full, Mac's need a minimum of 10-15% of the disk available at all times. For example if your drive is 250GB it always should have at least 25-38GB available. If you aren't sure how much yours has in Finder click it and then type Command + I and it will tell you the size and how much is available.
The next thing I think it might be is that it's failing. I would recommend running Apple Hardware Test in Extended Mode immediately and see if it reports any errors.

  • How to make "Get Mail" button work for new IMAP acct?

Recently, I started new Internet service with Charter. I set up my new email mail account on my iMac, and everything is working perfectly.....except that Mail checks the Charter email account for new messages ONLY when Mail is first started or the first time I "Synchronize". There's no way to know that messages are waiting, and no other way to download messages.
When I click the "get mail" button, the little wheel thing appears for all the accounts (I still have my ATT accounts active), except the Charter account. When Mail automatically checks for messages, it checks all the accounts except the Charter account.
The messages sent to the Charter account show up right away on the web (looking at my account on Charter's web site). I have no trouble at all sending emails. I have the account set up with IMAP (although, I tried POP, with no change). I have this account set to "Include when automatically checking for messages". I've shut down and restarted multiple times.
I've talked with Charter support, and they've checked their server and all my settings, and everything is OK. I'm inclined to agree it's not an issue on their end. It seems to be Mail.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

Yup. It was set to "every 5 minutes", and changing that made no difference. Mail completely ignores the charter account when doing the automated mail check and when I click "get mail".
I went to the local Apple store, without my iMac but with screen shots of the email settings, plus settings info from charter, and we set up the account on one of the iMacs there. It worked perfectly. The guy helping me suggested deleteting the account and setting it up again.
I did exactly that, but the behavior is the same. So.....the next thing to do is take the iMac in. (sigh.)

  • Outlook for Mac IMAP Account Issues

    Hi all,
    Hoping someone can help me!
I'm having mega-issues with my setting up a new IMAP account I have through 123-reg. I'm on Outlook for Mac 2011 v14.4.8
    The story so far:
I set up the account and had it working (after originally being given the incorrect password by tech support, they gave me the right one and it then worked). I've then used the account for about a week with some teething issues like send/receive taking longer than my other IMAP account to load and occasionally having to close and reboot the Outlook for Mac app for it to work. Also the regular error message coming up saying it can't sync and wanting me to re-input my login info.
Now, it just hasn't synced at all since Sunday and in the account settings the dot is the dreaded yellow!
I feel like I've tried everything. Setting i'm using are:
    Incoming:
    imap.123-reg.co.uk - port is 993
TICKED - Use SSL to connect (Recommended)
    Outgoing:
    smtp.123-reg.co.uk - port is 465
    TICKED - Override Default Port
TICKED - Use SSL to connect (Recommended)
    More Options:
    Use Incoming Server Info
Any help would be much appreciated - don't really know where else I can go for assistance?!

    Hello,
Since the issue also happens on the user's mobility, it can be more than a Entrouge client side issue.
The first thing come to my mind is the nichname cache which still resides on the user's mailbox. Please try clearing it up and see if it works.
    Thanks,
