Mail Fetching Question...

New iPhone...still learning in's and out's. When setting up Mail Fetch, I selected the phone to fetch every 30 minutes. However, it only fetches when the phone is "awake" and not every 30 minutes. Can it be set to fetch mail every 30 minutes, regardless of whether or not the phone is "asleep"?

Fetching should occur automatically every 30 minutes when set to this regardless if the iPhone's screen is asleep.
Try an iPhone reset, which is done by pressing and holding the Home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release - ignoring the slide to turn off prompt when doing so. A reset does not affect any data or settings and is similar to a computer restart.

Topic area: Apple Mail.  Question:  How do I get the message preview window to display to the right of my list of email messages? i.e. to preview whatever message is currently highlighted in the center window list of messages?

At present there is no preference option available to move the preview

  • Mail fetch settings based on connection profile

    Hi,
Is it possible to have different mail fetch settings depending upon whether I am on cellular data network or a wi-fi network? iPhone certainly seems capable of differentiating between these two kinds of network. I will like it to push when on wi-fi but will prefer to fetch manually when on Edge/3G.
    Thanks

  • Apple Mail fetch repeatedly times out

This is not a specific Lion problem but has continued under Lion, it's related to Apple Mail. On each of our 4 Macs our mail fetch from our ISP frequently times out  on all POP email accounts, repeatedly asking for a password even though the password is clearly stored in Mail preferences and Keychain. Sometimes I find that the POP email passwords are deleted from Mail, although they are always there in the Keychain. It only happens with POP, not IMAP etc. Needless to say our ISP has been vague and unhelpful. Any suggestions?

Even if it happens from outside their network, your mail still uses the same settings for servers and ports as to what you put into the settings. So, it's still routed through them regardless of the network your on. That why I suggested it may be the cause. Like I said, the same problem went on with ATT for many months.
There were many thoughts also on how mac mail was talking to the ISP, but in my case wasn't the problem. If you open up connection doctor in mail and test the connections from time to time, it failed in many cases. Sometimes, it failed constantly.
And since you've said it happens outside your network, that should eliminate your router.
So, you may want to talk with your ISP support group and ask them if they are making any changes to ports or servers. And if you haven't, check their website and search for mail server and port settings for mac to make sure you have the latest.
And I do understand that it's probably a wasted effort because most of the time they won't know what's going on.
    I feel your pain.

  • Periodic Mail Fetch seems to just stop

I've noticed that after switching to 2.1 my mail fetch just stopped.
After messing around with all account settings and unsetting and resetting
    fetch it started working again.
    For a while.
But then I've noticed it falls off again.
Power down using the red-slider and power up seems to solve it too, but who knows for how long...
Yet when waking the phone after it being off for several hours I will still see it immediately check mail as soon as I enter the email app, and download messages that are hours old.
I know others (Doug?) have seen this, and got it working again. Did it last?
There is a big story about this over on Apple Insider but it seems to just be a rehash of things on this forum.
Are there any known permanent fixes for this?

    Hey Icebike,
You know since I did the extreme re-set up (multiple times) of my email accounts (and since set-up a configuration profile using the iPhone Configuration Utility -- highly recommend -- saves a lot of time) I have not had any problems. Yes it has lasted. But remember I have my one account (all you can presently have) being Pushed. My others all are set to manually get email.
I don't know if my crazy procedure works for Fetching mail??

  • Mail RAM question

I set PUSH to off and FETCH to manually, question is, will it still use memory when it is running on background/multitasking? I've red somewhere that apps don't need to be necessarily removed from the multitasking, how about when MAIL (default app, yahoomail and gmail) is on the multitasking?

You do the following when you want to conserve battery:
    Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Push>OFF
    Settings>Notifications>Mail>Gmail>Notification Center>OFF
    Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Fetch New Data>Off

  • Mail fetching everytime iPhone 4s

    Hi All,
I am using iPhone 4S, I configured Gmail to this iPhone mail. I have around 30000 mails in my Gmail account having 15 folders. Every time when I open the mail I found that the all mail folder show only few mails and start fetching/downloading all mail. During this time if I open my second mail on top I can see 2/1000 and this number will be increasing like 2/1500 and so on. After few hours all 30000 mails will be fetched and the downloading finished. That time if I open the second mail I can see on top that 2/30000. During this time if I open any other folder it looks like empty and after few seconds in that folder also start fetching mail. Due to this problem my limited internet usage is always crossing the limit. Dear experts please suggest a solution for the same.
My question is, once the mail is downloaded to iPhone mail folder why is it getting deleted and again trying to fetch it?
    Thanks in advance.
    ST.

The iPhone will alert to incoming Mail messages only for the basic Inbox folders of each email account. If you are sorting at the server level into other folders, those messages aren't coming in to the Inbox folders, of your iPhone and so you will not receive an alert.

  • Mail adapter question

I have a question regarding the mail adapter scenario.  Firstly data goes to ECC and some validations are performed and if there are any errors, ECC will provide me with some indicator saying this record has errors.
Now, the same structures are used in the opposite direction and I have to count the number of error records based of that and send that info as an email. If I created a UDF to count the number of error records, how do I put that information in the email ?
Is there anyway, I can capture that info in the mail adapter ?
Any useful links will be appreciated.

being from a Java background is that every method/function declaration is supposed to have the return type and I was told that behind the scenes Java is being run which is why I assumed that thats a return type.Again,  I am fairly new and I am in the process of learning things.
For simple UDF (cache = Value), returns string.
For advanced UDF (Cache = Context or Queue), returns array of strings.
The problem is I did not understand the use of ResultList class in this case.
    Refer this -

use queue execution types but I am a little bit confused as to the usage of that.
Because of u201Cqueueu201D function, the arguments that we define automatically become arrays, because PI is assuming that we want to operate on multiple input values with this function. That's the reason you are able to traverse through each and every value of the field "ecode".
Any useful example would be appreciated.

  • Mail report question

    Hi there,
This may be a crazt question but I was curious if there was a way to get information from apple mail in report format.
I would like to create report showing waht folder the email is in.
My reason for doing this I seem tobe missing emails.  So instead of going in to each folder, I wondered if I could generate a report of some kind to do it.  Maybe an Applescript?  I do not know how to create scripts.
Or is there a way to add an additonal header in MAIL that would show the folder the email is saved in?
Thanks and I look forward to your reply.
    ...Bruce

    OK, so first some background:
    1) The basic process goes like this:
    a) one release doc (edited by the developer, presumably) and the
template docs are copied to the build area
    b) Each doc is unzipped (ODT's are just ZIP files) into a subdir
    c) The doc contents are copied around; this is to allow Ant to
replace its special @VAR@ variables in the document content
    d) The docs are zipped back up into ODTs
    e) The ODTs are converted into PDFs using OOo's macro functionality
Here are the troubleshooting steps I would apply:
    1) Make sure the external.odt file exists - check the build area
(//content/build/<pluginname>/tmp/) and can be opened using normal
    OpenOffice
    2) Check that the release.odt file exists (same location) and can be
    opened using normal OpenOffice
    3) See if you can manually convert the external.odt file into a PDF -
the command we use is simply:
    soffice -invisible
    macro:///Standard.Collectors.External2PDF(${pkgdir}/tmp/external.odt)
(replace ${pkgdir} with the build directory path).
If all that works, then the Ant build process should work.
Also - what does that OpenOffice error popup say?

  • Mail app question

well obviously i just got the new upgrade, but the question is how do you delete a mail account you already have on the ipod touch?
i tried manually putting one in and then later on synched it with my Mac, so now I have two of the same account (one that works and the other one doesn't). I don't see a delete button for individual accounts anywhere.
    thanks

    LOL - no way.
It's all new, so we have to start over.
Please mark as resolved for others seeking answers.

  • Mail forwarding question

    Hello,
I have added mail forwarding throguh delegated admin for a user.
The issue I am observing is the mail box which has forwarder entry also has emails and they are not getting deleted.
My question is whether can I set something where in the message gets deleted after forwarding it.
I am using iPlanet Messaging Server 5.2 HotFix 1.20

You are indeed using an old version of Messaging Server.
5.2p2 is available free, and is later than what you're using.
5.2hf1.10 is current, and is available through Tech Support.
All that being said, when you turn forwarding on, you likely left "mailbox" delivery on. that means that the messages will be both forwarded AND delivered to the mailbox.
Uncheck the "mailbox" delivery, and you won't see messages getting delivered there.
The DA will show a checkbox next time you go that user, though. Not to worry....

  • Mail syncing question

    Hi,
    the scenario is this:
On my macbook, 10.6, one of the POP accounts is acting strange. It's a BT internet account. Symptoms are it starts to download messages and just gets stuck. Also duplicates are appearing. I've tried deleting the message from the server via webmail, and recreating the account. The messages do reach the iPhone no problem.
So , i'm assuming that there's something lurking inside "My home directory"/Library/Mail.
I'm going to delete this Mail folder, along with Mail preferences.
The question is, can i sync the accounts (one bt internet, the other @me.com) from my iPhone / ipod to the Macbook via either MobileMe or iTunes?
Am i right in thinking that you can sync accounts from a desktop / laptop Mac to an iPhone / iPod, but you can't do the reverse?
    Many thanks in advance.

The +iPod touch+ doesn't offer Mail syncing. All it does is sync the account details. Emails are downloaded separately when you next get a suitable WiFi connection.

  • MAIL certificate question

Lately I get a question box when I open MAIL.   I have Snow Leopard, and opted to keep Mobile Me at the switch this summer.   It has been working just fine,
same as always with no change.  Now I get this:    note:  {   }   is a description from me for something I can not create here
    Verify Certificate.
The certificate for this server is invalid.  You might be connecting to a server that is pretending to be "mail.me.com" which could put your confidential infirmation at reks.  Do you want to connect to the server anyway?

    I have iCloud eMail running in 10.4.11 & 10.5.8...
Do not delete the old account yet. sign up for an iCloud account if you haven't.
I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
              •          Server name: imap.mail.me.com
              •          SSL Required: Yes
              •          Port: 993
              •          Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
              •          Password: Your iCloud password
    SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
              •          Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
              •          SSL Required: Yes
              •          Port: 587
              •          SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
              •          Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
              •          Password: Your iCloud password
Also, you must upgrade your password to meet the new criteria:  8 characters, including upper and lower case and numbers.  If you have an older password that does not meet these criteria, when you try to setup mail on your mac, using all of the IMAP criteria listed above, it will still give a server error message.  Go to   http://appleid.apple.com         then follow directions to change your password, then go back to setting up your mail using the IMAP instructions above.
    Thanks to dpepper...

  • Mail preferences question

question... my ex wife has somehow accessed my email acct. on my daughters macbook. I did some spec work for playboy mag and she is claiming that i did it on my daughters mac.She claims that when the mail application is launched my emails all appear. She claims she cannot delete my emails because she needs an administrator to do so, which she claims I am. I believe that in mail preferences it is easy to delete an account without the use of an admins password. Is that correct. I believe that she is using 10.5

Though this really is the Mail section of Tiger Discussions, isn't there a separate section in your Mail Preferences (up in that menu bar where you found "General") labelled "Accounts"?
In Tiger Mail>Preferences, there are several menus in Prefs...General/Accounts/Junk/Fonts...etc.
Are you saying that "Accounts" is not a menu choice in your Panther's prefs?
