Mail Filtering - Can it work on iPhone?

Mail Filtering - Can it work on iPhone?
The Mail Filtering on my desk Macs works great. The filtering software built in OSX 10.5.4 mail sorts out 95% of the spam, automatically directing it to the Junk folder. This saves me a great amount time and frustration. And, it is accurate too.
My question is: Is there any way to receive similar filtering on my iPhone? With the new push email, I don't want to be forced to receive non-filtered spam throughout the day. I would appreciate some information and suggestions regarding effectively handling spam on the iPhone.
Thank you. Dale

Thank you. Any other thoughts?

  • My call reject can't work in iPhone 5

    Hi,
My call reject can't work in iPhone 5..!! I can't even c the icon( to swap up) when incoming call.

I am/was having the exact same problem.  I would be in a call and my phone would "beep" like there was an incoming call but no option to ignore or swap nor does it display who is calling.  I would continue to hear the "beep" until the caller either hung up or went to voice mail.
The secondary problem was this....  if they didn't leave a VM, my phone does not even show a missed call therefore I have no way of knowing who it was that was calling.
So I turned my phone off and back on.  Now I have the options to ignore or swap the call.  However, now what happens is if I am in a call and I hit the ignore button, I continue to hear the "beep" like the call is incoming and the caller does not get sent to my voice mail!!!!!!
Very frustrating.  This all just started happening for me 2 days ago.
Oh and p.s.  I still haven't upgraded to iOS 7.

  • Can Siri work on iPhone 4

Can Siri work on iPhone 4

Of course it could work on 4 or 3gs, it's just records your voice then sends your voice to Apple Siri servers that are powerful to run voice algorithms to match what your saying. All the work is done at the server end.
Your iPhone just records your voice and sends it as data to the servers that send the data for the Siri software to say to you or act on your behalf.
Nothing mystical about the iPhone 4S having magic processing powers. In fact no phone could have the power to run Siri on it's own, maybe in 5-10 years.

  • Junk mail filtering exemptions not working?

I needed to test e-mail and sent an e-mail to myself. When the e-mail came back, it wound up in the junk folder. I checked preferences, and addresses in my address book are exempt from e-mail filtering. My e-mail address is in my address book. I reset the junk mail filtering criteria and now my e-mails arrive in my inbox. Does anyone know if the exemptions in the preferences for junk mail filtering even work?

I was having a similar problem...after upgrading I was getting all mail in my Inbox (junk as well as ones that had rules setup to go to other folders). I tried checking "Filter Junk mail before applying my rules", but as I suspected, that just sent most everything to the Junk mailbox. Each of my rules end with "Stop evaluating rules"...I tried taking them out, and that didn't help, so I put them back in. Suddenly, now everything seems to work fine. All of the mail with rules are going to the correct folders and spam is going to the trash.
In the Junk Tab I have checked: Perform custom actions, sender from my address book and previous are exempt, and trust headers from my ISP. In the advanced area I have if "any" selected, as well as in my address book, previous recipients, and it's junk mail. In the actions I send it to the trash, and stop evaluating rules. I hope this helps some people out there.

  • Mail filters STILL NOT WORKING

Ok I was happy to discover that my mail filters are SORT OF working better than they used to anyway.  They used to work maybe 5 % of the time.e
Now they work about 90 percent of the time.
I filter only by sender, mostly tryng to put ads and newsletters in their own folder (not a smart folder) "On My Mac."  But for some inexplicable reason it skips some. The email addresses from which it is sent are exactly the same.  But it simply will not move one of them out of my inbox and into the 'ads' folder.

Oddly enough, the top message in a thread stayed in my inbox and the threaded messages underneath it (from same sender) went to the proper folder. Makes no sense.

  • How do I avoid receiving  junk mail (filtered on MacBook) on my iPhone?

The subject is the essence of my question. I cannot find any settings on the iPhone4 for junk mail filter.

There are no settings on the iPhone to do this. Unlike the Mail app on your computer, the iPhone Mail app is simply not as full featured. You'd have to do that at the server level for your phone.

  • Mail Sounds No Longer Work on iPhone 4.

The sounds for mail, incoming or outgoing, no longer work on my iPhone 4 (4.3.3).  All it does is vibrate even though that is set to Off.   All the other feature settings are set to ON. I have checked all the sounds and they work, they just don't work with the Mail any more.  This is a MobileMe IMAP account.  I tried re-setting everything without deleting data and that made no difference.  The sounds worked perfectly up until a week or so ago.  Any ideas on how to have them function again?  In addition, when I connect the iPhone to my iMac (Snow Leopard 10.6.7) the phone also vibrates.  This is a new feature as well.  Any chance a setting in iTunes might have caused this, and, if so, how to remedy it.
    Thanks!

    Problem solved.  No further action.

  • Mail notification sound not working on iphone

My email notification sound doesn't work until I open the mail app. THEN I get the sound.  Using iPhone 5s - iOS7, of course.  Any ideas?

  • Gmail "send mail as" setting not working from iPhone

I added a second gmail account to Mail. This gmail account has the "send mail as" setting set to show a different "from" address than the actual gmail account, and works fine when I send mail from my desktop. When I send mail from that account through Mail on the iPhone, it does not pick up this setting and the actual gmail account appears as the "from" address. I don't see any place in Settings or Mail to set this, and I couldn't find previous discussions of it here. Any help? Thanks in advance.

    Anyone?

  • OSX Mail refuses password that works on iPhone

    Hello --
Mac OSX Mail repeatedly refuses to receive new email from my Doteasy-hosted email account.  I use this same password on Doteasy's webmail interface flawlessly.  I have the EXACT same account settings on my iPhone, which works perfectly, but Mail has been fighting me for two days on this.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!
    Thanks,
    Sean
p.s.  Is there no category for Email in the Discussions forum??  I sure couldn't find one...

Hey, one funny thing I noticed, which may be significant.
I went to make a backup copy of the faulty mailbox (in the Library folder) before deleting/recreating my Mail account.
The format for the folder name of every other email account -- all the functioning ones -- under the same domain is:
POP- [email] % [domain name] @ [incoming mail server]
But the FAULTY account format is:
POP- [mailbox nickname] @ [email] % [domain name]
with NO incoming mail server at the end.
I went into Prefs and removed the faulty account's nickname, named it like the other accounts, quit mail.
The finder folder names didn't change.  And when I reopened Mail it wiped out the password for _every_ account, so I'll have to re-enter them all manually.
Crikey, what's going on?  Is this helpful to know?
    Thanks for all your help,
    Sean

  • Junk Mail only works after I disable and reenable Junk Mail Filtering

Since installing Tiger, junk mail filtering does not work automatically. It neither marks incoming messages as junk nor moves them to the Junk folder.
I am able to get it to work by selecting Preferences > Junk Mail and then unchecking "Enable junk mail filtering" and then checking it. Mail then asks to "Move Junk Messages" and when I respond "Yes" it marks the appropriate messages as Junk and moves them to the Junk folder.
Unfortunately, it only works for the messages already received. New mail that is "junk" is not marked as such and appears in my inbox and I have to repeat the manual process to get it removed.
Any suggestions for a more permanent solution?
    17 iMac   Mac OS X (10.4)

Will it also forget the "learned" junk mail? (That took years to learn.)
    No.
The MessageRules.plist file stores all Mail.app rules including the default Junk Mail rules.
All Junk Mail "learned" settings are stored in the LSMMap2 file also located at the first level within the Mail folder.
Since the LSMMap2 file can become corrupt as with any other file, this file should be included with a regular backup of the Mail folder and the Mail.app preference file at Home > Library Preferences > com.apple.mail.plist.
All Mail.app account information is stored in the Mail.app preference file.
If you experience any problems with the Junk Mail filter, your options are using the Junk Mail reset feature which resets all "learned" settings or replace the existing LSMMap2 file with a copy of a working backup copy with the Mail.app quit before doing so.
If the Mail.app preference file becomes corrupt (which I've never experienced but others have), when targeting the preference file requires re-entering all email account information. If you have a working backup copy of the com.apple.mail.plist file, you can replace the existing with the Mail.app quit before doing so without having to re-enter all email account information again.
You need to replace an existing backup copy of the Mail.app preference file only after making any changes to account information or when adding or deleting an account in Mail.
You may already have a backup strategy but if not, it is very important since it isn't a matter of if but when your hard drive has a partial or complete failure. I learned my lesson the hard way about 5 years ago. Without warning, I experienced a complete hard drive failure. I didn't maintain a backup at the time and none of the existing data was recoverable.

  • Junk Mail Filtering????

This isn't working on iPhone 6 or MBA. Software updates have been informed on both devices.
Am I correct in saying that you have designate the mail as junk on my MBA and then that filters throught to the iPhone?
    Many thanks

    Hi wyliss,
If you are having an issue with junk mail not being removed properly, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

  • All is "junk" to Yosemite mail filtering

I have two computers (one at work, the other at home) running the same version of OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 and accessing the same (Microsoft Exchange) mail server. My computer at work does a pretty good job at filtering junk mail. My computer at home puts EVERY SINGLE MESSAGE in the junk mail.
Anyone out there with the same problem? I have reset the junk mail settings several times, reinstalled the account. Nothing seems to help.
Thanks in advance for any advise. This is driving me crazy!

    Hey there ahahmann,
If your junk mail filter on your Home computer is still not working correctly, take a look at this info from the following article about junk mail filters named:
Mail (Yosemite): If junk mail filters aren’t working correctly
If messages are incorrectly marked as junk
There are several ways you can prevent Mail from incorrectly marking legitimate messages as junk.
Tell Mail that a message is legitimate by marking it as not junk. Click Not Junk in the banner of the message; or select the message, then click the Not Junk button  in the Mail toolbar.
Add the sender to the Contacts app. For more information, see Save addresses, events, passes, and more.
Review your junk mail settings in Mail preferences, as well as any rules you might have created to handle junk mail, and make changes as necessary.
Reduce junk mail in your inbox

Back up all data. Quit Preview if it's running.
Hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Library from the Finder menu bar. From the Library folder, delete the following items, if they exist:
              Containers/com.apple.Preview
              Group Containers/com.apple.Preview
              Preferences/com.apple.Preview.LSSharedFileList.plist

Log out and log back in. Launch the application and test.
